      Staying ahead of evolving market trends and consumer expectations is one of the key factors for success in the automotive space. A relevant example is Mahindra’s plans to introduce a hybrid powertrain option with the XEV 9e and BE 6 electric SUVs. A report from Autocar India reveal that Mahindra is likely to use a range-extender hybrid setup for its Born Electric SUVs.
      Mahindra XEV 9e, BE 6 hybrid – What to expect?
      Mahindra’s INGLO platform underpinning XEV 9e and BE 6 was originally developed to be used exclusively for electric cars. That strategy seemed appropriate, as much of the automotive industry was convinced that electric cars would soon overtake ICE cars. However, electrification hasn’t happened as fast as expected, even though EV sales are increasing.
      Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e Launch Price
      Moreover, there’s growing support for hybrids across OEMs, car users and government agencies. Considering these factors, the decision to introduce a hybrid option with the XEV 9e and BE 6 seems aptly timed. These Mahindra electric SUVs are already among bestsellers in their respective segments. Addition of a hybrid powertrain can attract an entirely new set of buyers. In May 2025, the combined sales of XEV 9e and BE 6 were at 4,021 units. With the hybrid option, Mahindra will be aiming for a higher monthly sales target.
      Mahindra is likely to use a range-extender hybrid powertrain for XEV 9e and BE 6. That’s because it will be easier to integrate with the INGLO born-EV skateboard platform. A 1.2-litre Turbo Petrol engine is expected to be used, which will work as a generator to recharge the battery. A range extender hybrid setup will ensure that INGLO’s EV architecture and electric drive is retained in its original intended format, all while increasing the overall range and effectively tackling range anxiety.

      XUV 3XO hybrid also under development
      It is learned that Mahindra is also considering a hybrid option for XUV 3XO. But unlike the range-extender to be used with XEV 9e and BE 5, the XUV 3XO could use a series parallel hybrid powertrain. XUV 3XO already uses a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, Turbo Petrol engine, which can be used with the strong hybrid system.
      In a typical strong hybrid setup, power to the wheels can be supplied by both the ICE engine and the electric motor, either working independently or together. With a strong hybrid powertrain, XUV 3XO can gain a key USP in the sub-4-meter SUV segment. This could help it stand out in a competitive space that has rivals like Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Skoda Kylaq.

      Interestingly, even Maruti is working on a hybrid option for its smaller cars like Baleno, Fronx, Swift and a Spacia-based mini MPV. Maruti is developing a range-extender hybrid powertrain, which will be easier to accommodate in smaller cars. Various other brands including Hyundai, JSW MG Motor and Skoda Auto Volkswagen are also working on introducing hybrid cars in India.
      Road tax exemption, shortage of rare-earth magnets
      Although hybrids do not get subsidies like electric cars, some states have started offering road tax exemption for hybrid cars. For example, states like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand have 100% road tax exemption for hybrids. If other states also offer such benefits, hybrid car sales could gain more traction in the future.
      Preference for strong hybrids over EVs could also be due to the ongoing global shortage of rare earth magnets. While strong hybrids also use rare earth magnets, it is not as high as electric cars. With limited supply of rare earth magnets, manufacturing strong hybrids may work out better than manufacturing EVs. More

      MG ZS EV – New special prices
      With the special anniversary offer, the base Executive variant of MG ZS EV is available at a starting price of Rs 16.75 lakh. That’s savings of Rs 13,000, as compared to the old price of Rs 16.88 lakh. The one-above base Excite Pro variant of MG ZS EV is now available at a starting price of Rs 18,49,800. That’s a saving of Rs 48,000, as compared to the earlier pricing of Rs 18,97,800 (all prices Ex-sh).
      Buyers choosing the top variants, Exclusive Plus or Essence, stand to maximize the savings. The Exclusive Plus variant of MG ZS EV is now available at Rs 19,49,800. That’s a massive Rs 4.15 lakh drop in pricing, as compared to Rs 23,64,800 quoted earlier. The top Essence variant of MG ZS EV is now available at a starting price of Rs 20,49,800. Savings are Rs 4.44 lakh, as compared to the old price of Rs 24,93,800 (Ex-sh).
      MG ZS EV Discounts – New Price List
      MG has mentioned that this more accessible price point for ZS EV is part of a special one-time limited period offer. However, an exact timeline of how long the offer will be available has not been provided. This offer is likely to be available throughout June at least, or as per stock availability.
      Buyers should probably approach their nearest MG Motor dealer to get more details about the offer and its end date. MG ZS EV takes on rivals such as Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Mahindra XUV 400 EV and BYD Atto 3. With the special price offer, the top variants of MG ZS EV can witness a sales boost. As of now, MG ZS EV is ranked fourth in MG car sales.

      MG’s top selling product is currently the Windsor EV, which has also emerged as India’s top selling electric car. In May, Windsor EV sales were at 3,939 units. To maintain the sales momentum, MG had recently launched the Windsor Pro variant. It has a higher range and some additional features.
      MG ZS EV with Level 2 ADAS
      MG also offers the Comet EV, which is currently the second best selling MG electric car. In May, Comet EV registered sales of 823 units. ZS EV is the third bestselling MG electric car in India.       As part of its long-term strategy for India, Kia is aiming to build its mass-market EV portfolio. The current offerings, EV6 and EV9, are imported as CBUs. For the mainstream segment, Kia’s first electric offering will be the Carens Clavis EV. Let’s discuss some new details, as revealed in the latest spy shots shared by automotive enthusiast Manuraj.
      Kia Carens Clavis EV – Key features
      In addition to being Kia’s first mass-market EV in India, Carens Clavis EV will also be India’s first mass-market 7-seater electric MPV. This will allow Kia to take full control, dominate this space and establish an early lead. Visually, Clavis EV will be largely the same as the recently launched Kia Carens Clavis. However, there will be EV-specific distinctive features such as a front-mounted charging port and EV badging.

      Test vehicles have hinted at the possibility that the primary lighting setup will be the same as Carens Clavis. It includes the Ice Cube MFR LED headlamps and Star Map LED DRLs with integrated turn signals. But Clavis EV will be getting some additional features such as a full-width LED element connecting the DRLs at front. Side profile looks largely the same, although Clavis EV can be seen with aero-optimized alloy wheels.
      Equipment list for Clavis EV will be largely the same as seen with the ICE Clavis. Some of the key highlights include dual 12.3-inch displays, 8-speaker Bose audio system, panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats. Also, powered driver’s seat, 64-colour ambient lighting, wireless charging, one-touch electric tumble seats and air purifier. Safety kit will include Level 2 ADAS with over 20 features.

      Carens Clavis EV – Performance, range
      In a bid to reduce development costs, Kia may equip the Carens Clavis EV with the same powertrain used in the Hyundai Creta Electric. The latter is offered with two battery pack options of 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. Certified range is 390 km with the smaller battery pack and 473 km with the larger unit (as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 Cycle). Both variants have a front-axle mounted electric motor, generating 135 PS and 171 PS, respectively.
      Kia Carens Clavis EV Spotted
      Similar specifications are expected with the Carens Clavis EV. However, range could be lower for Clavis EV due to its heavier profile. Focus will be on ensuring a smooth performance and family-oriented driving. Some EV-specific features are expected with the Clavis EV such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle charging (V2V).
      Kia Carens Clavis EV launch date
      Kia is expected to launch the Carens Clavis EV in July 2025. Prices could start at around Rs 16-18 lakh. Top variants could be priced at around Rs 23-24 lakh. Flush door handles, new 18-inch alloys, all-LED lighting, illuminated MG logo, glass antenna, cornering lights and chrome highlights are common between both.

      Differences in features from Essence Pro
      If you look closely, you will see that Exclusive Pro lacks the Infinity View glass roof, ventilated front seats, PM 2.5 filter, 256 colour ambient lighting, powered tailgate, V2L (Vehicle to Load) and V2V functions (Vehicle to Vehicle) and the 12 ADAS features that only the top-spec Essence Pro variant gets and is priced at Rs, 18.31 lakh, which is Rs 1.06 lakh more (Ex-sh).

      Where powertrains are concerned, both Windsor Exclusive Pro and Essence Pro are identical, sans the V2L and V2V capabilities. While Harrier EV is undercutting XEV 9e with base prices, top-spec variant prices are still under wraps. Now, the company has revealed some crucial specs of Harrier EV that were not disclosed before.       Tata Harrier EV Top Speed
      The Indian automotive fraternity has been asking one question about Harrier EV since launch. That question is regarding Harrier EV’s total system output, which remains unanswered. What has been revealed, are some performance metrics other than the already revealed 0-100 sprint along with kerb weight info.

      For starters, Harrier EV is powered by a 65 kWh or a 75 kWh battery pack option. Where kerb weight is concerned, RWD variants could weigh up to 2,235 kg and QWD variants could weigh up to 2,336 kg. When compared to the ICE version, Harrier EV RWD can be around 300 kg heavier and QWD can be around 400 kg heavier, depending on variants.
      Unlike its ICE counterpart, Harrier EV is RWD as standard with a single electric motor and higher variants get a dual motor layout, one powering each axle, with what the company calls QWD (Quad Wheel Drive) for off-road capabilities. RWD variants offers 238 PS of peak power and QWD variants get an additional 158 PS front motor with a total system torque output of 504 Nm.

      What’s the top speed?
      Total system power output is still under wraps and you can’t just add front and rear power numbers and arrive at ~400 PS mark. Now, top speed of Harrier EV has been revealed to be 180 km/h with an electronic speed limit. Unleashed, Harrier EV might probably go over 200 km/h, which the arch rival Mahindra XEV 9e does as well.
      With the launch of Harrier EV, Tata Motors has been incorporating a lot of features and creature comforts that were never offered with any Tata vehicle before. Some of these include an electronic IRVM with DVR, Digital Key with NFC key card, self park function along with summon mode, Samsung NEO QLED infotainment screen and more.

      Maurti eVitara Production Target Reduced To 8,200 From 26,500 – Here’s Why

      Maruti eVitara Electric SUVMaruti Suzuki has been working on its maiden electric vehicle, the eVitara for a long time. Now that it is slated to launch and go into mass production at their Gujarat plant, the company is facing hurdles to meet the supply of rare earth minerals. That is due to the recent developments from China as it curbs export of a few rare earth minerals.
      These developments from Dragonland have struck fears of production stoppages across the world. China’s actions are expected to create disruptions in current supply chains established across the world as these rare earth minerals are crucial in making magnets and other components in the tech industry.
      Maurti eVitara Production Reduced
      As per initial estimates, Maruti Suzuki had aimed to manufacture 26,512 units of their maiden eVitara electric SUV. However, the production goals have now been reduced to two-thirds of its initial estimation, which is around 8,221 units only. These 8,221 units will be manufactured between April and September, owing to supply constraints.
      It has to be noted that some companies in United States of America, Japan and European Union have been able to secure licenses from Beijing and are witnessing easing supplies. Something similar is yet to happen for Indian companies.
      Maruti Suzuki eVitara Interiors
      While the company will only manufacture around 8,221 units of the planned 26,512 units between April and September 2025, Maruti Suzuki will reportedly ramp up production at their Gujarat plant post September 2025 and meet or come close to around 67k units production target by the end of March 2026 at the rate of 440 units per day.
      58,728 of these units will be manufactured between October 2025 and March 2025, once the production is ramped up considerably. After the launch of Maruti Suzuki eVitara, there will be a Toyota counterpart of this vehicle called Urban Cruiser EV, which will also be manufactured at Maruti’s Gujarat plant.
      Bookings & Launch
      Production of eVitara and Urban Cruiser EV is solely dedicated to Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant and it will act as an export hub for markets like Japan and Europe. Bookings for Maruti Suzuki eVitara in India are yet to commence. With the launch of eVitara, Maruti Suzuki is likely to gain significant market share in the lucrative electric vehicle market of India where Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai and MG Motor are currently operating.       Hyundai has taken their vastly successful Creta and carved out an electric version. Both vehicles carry the same silhouette, but unique design identities with dedicated front design and wheels. While it is not confirmed, Kia might be taking a similar strategy and developing an electric version of Seltos with unique design elements of its own.
      It will be based on upcoming 2026 Seltos and not the current model. Spy shots of upcoming Seltos have been packing two different fascias under its camouflage as highlighted by Kindelauto. This strongly suggests Kia might be working on an electric counterpart, similar to what Hyundai has done with Creta. Let’s take a closer look.

      At least in India, Kia never had a sportier version of its vehicles with dedicated design elements like Hyundai N Line. Kia did have the X Line, which was more of a paint finish difference and a few other and nowhere close to what Hyundai has been doing with N Line, which offers profound design changes and upgrades to mechanical components.
      So, when the upcoming 2026 Seltos is packing two different front fascias, primary speculation was that there could be an electric version of Seltos. Differences between both these fascias are quite evident as seen with highlights outlined by Kindelauto. Even the alloy wheels are different with these, further fueling this speculation.

      Both versions seem to have a front charging port and only one of them may be functional. The main differences can be seen in bumper designs and alloy wheel designs. Both vehicles were spied testing together and were papped at the same location. On the inside, there might be a few design changes with EV version with gear selector behind steering wheel and others.
      Same powertrains as Creta Electric?
      Powering this vehicle could be the same battery and motors as Creta Electric. Either a 42 kWh or a 51.4 kWh battery pack mated to a single FWD electric motor that can generate up to 169 bhp of peak power, promising a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.9s. In Creta Electric, max range promised is 473 km on a single charge.
      Kia Carens Clavis EV Spotted
      2026 Kia Seltos is speculated to offer a Hybrid powertrain option as well, which will keep the Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Hybrids in check. Kia India is working to launch Carens Clavis EV in July 2025, which may feature the same powertrains as Creta Electric.
