India’s electric car landscape is slowly being populated with new vehicles. More brands are exploring electric powertrains today, than before. Apart from launching new vehicles, existing electric cars need to be updated too. We’re talking about BYD E6 update, which is confirmed to be launched in India soon.
BYD M6 India Launch Confirmed
There is very little light as to what it will be called. Said model is teased officially by BYD and will launch soon. As seen in the teaser, BYD has shown a glimpse of its upcoming electric vehicle. We can see penta-element LED headlights along with Atto 3 inspired front grill. These attributes point towards one vehicle, which is BYD M6.

This incoming electric vehicle is highly likely to be BYD M6 electric MPV which will replace the aging E6 on sale in India. BYD has went one step ahead and has de-listed E6 from its Indian lineup too. Further strengthening our speculation. The line “Transformation to new Generation” was followed by a “7”. The “7” in BYD India’s teaser might represent that it is a 7-seater as well.

BYD’s teaser on social media handle also mentioned the word “Max”. For context, BYD Song Max is another name for BYD M6. These easter eggs suggest that Indian model might get a new name – E7, E6 Max, E7 Max, M7, M6 Max, M7 Max are some of the possibilities. That said, name of this upcoming E6 replacing electric MPV is highly likely to be M6.

We say this because it was launched in Indonesia in July 2024 as BYD M6. Price ranges between IDR 379 million (Rs 20.6 lakh) and IDR 429 million (Rs 23.3 lakh). There are three trim levels in Indonesia – Standard 7 Seater, Superior 7 Seater and Superior Captain 6 Seater. There are four colours offered – Crystal White, Cosmos Black, Harbour Grey and Ink Stone Blue.

What does it get?
Dimension-wise, BYD M6 measures 4,710 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, 1,690 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 225/55 rubber and the ground clearance is 170 mm. Overall design looks like it is an evolution of BYD E6, which it is. BYD is flaunting the MPV design and is not selling it as a fake SUV with body cladding.

We already spoke about the LED headlights. BYD calls it “Diamond Starlight Levitation LED Headlights”. There is a neat kink in the window line that reminds me of a Tata Hexa, for some reason. On the inside, we will see a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment display, a well-laid-out dashboard, seating for 6 or 7 passengers, a large sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging pad, electric tailgate, ADAS and more.

Powertrain-wise, India will probably get a sole 71.8 kWh BYD Blade battery with a claimed range of 530 km on a single charge (NEDC certified). There might be a 200 bhp electric motor, powering the front wheels with 310 Nm of instant torque capable of propelling M6 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. There is a smaller 55 kWh version too, which is less likely to make it to our shores. Launch timeline was not revealed, but festive season is a lucrative proposition for any OEM. More

BYD Seal X HomologatedBased on the recently showcase Ocean-M Concept, BYD Seal X is a handsome-looking pure electric hatchback, larger than MG4 EVElectric car juggernaut, BYD, is set to expand its product portfolio with a bunch of new vehicles. One of them is the BYD Seal X, which is the production-spec version of Ocean-M Concept recently showcased at Beijing Auto Show. The car was recently homologated by Chinese MIIT and it could emerge as a very important product for BYD.BYD Seal X HomologatedRecently revealed by Chinese MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), BYD Seal X is homologated as a pure electric sedan. Because it has Seal in the name, it falls under BYD’s popular Ocean lineup accompanied by Seagull and Dolphin, among others. BYD Seal lineup currently has Seal 06, Seal EV, Seal DM-i, and Seal U (a.k.a BYD Song Plus).Initial speculations suggest the ‘X’ in BYD Seal X may be a variable nameplate placeholder. This is because the homologation declaration by Chinese MIIT had nameplates like Seal 06GT, Seal MINI and Seal 05EV. For the time being, let’s just call the recently homologated vehicle, BYD Seal X.Overall design is very handsome and looks like an extension of BYD Seal EV. At the front, we like the new headlights with a wrap-around effect. BYD logo proudly sits between these headlights. Front bumper is all new with pronounced boomerang-shaped air ducts. The lower grill opens outwards and in the middle, gets a radar module for ADAS features.BYD Seal X RearAt the side, front quarter panel has a stylised plaque similar to BYD Seal EV. ORVMs, flush-mounted door handles and the design patterns on side running board look similar to BYD Seal too. Wheels and overall silhouette of Seal X is unique and pays tribute to Ocean-M Concept on which it is based.Hatchback style design is more evident at the rear and we have a flatter tailgate. Tail lights are connected in a black plaque. Rear bumper gets a black finish. Unlike the BYD Seal, there is no rear diffuser with BYD Seal X. Rear bumper is kept black to cut down on visual mass and overall rear design lends a sporty appeal.Specs & hardwareBYD Seal X measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, 1,490 mm in height and has a 2,820 mm long wheelbase. Wheels are 18-inchers wrapped with 225/50-R18 tyres and can be opted to have 19-inch wheels too. Both RWD and AWD variants will be on sale. Single motor variant will have 214 bhp and dual motor variant will pack 416 bhp.BYD Seal X FasciaThe homologation document also shows a mid variant with 308 bhp as well. Battery size is unknown, but they’re BYD Blade cells sourced from FinDreams (Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry). BYD Seal X might go on sale in the coming months. With its sporty profile and an extravagant body kit, the concept looks absolutely stunning. Post launch in China, the production model is likely destined for European markets.BYD Ocean M Concept – Key FeaturesSome design elements that are an instant draw include the massive splitter at front, large sill extensions, GT3-style diffuser and high-rise rear spoiler. The production variant won’t be getting these features, but still, the electric hatchback will continue to have a significantly attractive profile.BYD Ocean M Hot HatchOcean M concept’s front fascia seems to derive inspiration from the Lamborghini Aventador. But such similarities may be diluted in the production version. The same could be true for the camera-based door mirrors, at least for the base variant. The rising waistline adds more dynamism to the hatch and enhances its road presence.Ocean M’s aerodynamic body panelling, sleek headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, sporty alloy wheels, thick body cladding, flush-type door handles and blacked-out roof and pillars make the electric hatch a wondrous looking car.
