Honda Activa Electric Scooter Launch Nears – New Details Out

New Honda Electric Scooter Concept. Image – PaulTanWhile Honda is relatively late in the electric two-wheeler race, it has set ambitious goals to produce four million EVs by 2030
Honda has revealed its plans for the electric two-wheeler segment, which include the roadmap for both domestic and international markets. A phased market expansion approach will be utilized, with 2024 being the entry point. To create practical products that are affordable as well, Honda will focus on modularization and use of existing ICE assets and expertise.
Honda Activa electric scooter launch in 2024
For India, Honda will introduce an electric two-wheeler whose performance will be comparable to a 110cc ICE two-wheeler. It will be positioned as a mass-market product, something similar to Honda Activa. A range of over 100 km is likely, as the scooter will be using two Honda Mobile Power Packs.
For international markets, Honda is developing a more premium product that will have advanced features such as in-vehicle infotainment. The model for India will be launched in 2024, whereas the global model is set to debut in 2025. Indonesia will get it first, followed by launch in Japan and Europe.
    Multiple battery technologies
The 2024 model to be launched in India will have battery swapping tech. To balance cost aspects and varying user requirements, Honda is developing multiple battery technologies for its upcoming electric two-wheelers. Much of the production will be done in Asia. Existing Honda electric two-wheeler models utilize nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) cell chemistry. For its upcoming models, Honda is working on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. The LFP cells are planned to be used with models launched from 2025 onwards.
By the end of this decade, Honda would have established a strong presence in the electric two-wheeler space. Around that time, Honda will start introducing its next-gen batteries. While specifications are not available, Honda has stated that the next-gen battery packs will be affordable and enhance the vehicle’s marketability. These advanced battery packs will also enable faster adoption of electric two-wheelers.
    ICE-based EV models
Honda electric two-wheelers introduced up to 2026 will make max possible use of existing ICE assets. The period from 2024 to 2026 will be the entry phase for Honda. By utilizing existing ICE parts, Honda can accelerate product development and also reduce overall costs. Honda has decades of experience in the ICE segment, something that will be leveraged for the development of its initial electric two-wheelers. Existing Honda ICE scooters are already equipped with advanced features such as connectivity tech. Such features will be available with the first set of electric two-wheelers launched by Honda.
OTA updates will also be included, ensuring the EV remains future-proof. The 2024 model will have a unique navigation function as well that will ensure seamless access to available charging stations. The equipment list of Honda electric two-wheelers will keep improving over the years. Beyond the 2024-2026 entry phase, Honda has marked the 2026 to 2030 period as the business expansion phase for its electric two-wheelers. After 2030, Honda’s electric two-wheeler business will enter the full-scale growth phase. Electric two-wheelers launched during this period will be far more advanced.
    Modularization to boost efficiency
To quickly create new products and ensure seamless integration with ICE assets, Honda will focus on the modularization of core components such as battery, power unit and the body. Development and production cost can be reduced with modularization, all while ensuring that users have multiple models to choose from. Honda will be building new factories that will focus on incorporating modular platform technologies. By utilizing its existing global sales network, Honda has plans to emerge as the number 1 brand in the electric two-wheeler space.

Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle Debuts Today – Flying Flea Could Be The Name

Royal Enfield EV Teaser – Flying FleaWith a reference to its Flying Flea motorcycle from World War II era, Royal Enfield EV teaser with parachute might be hinting the name
With electric mobility taking more prominence in India, many manufacturers have been testing out the waters. Among these manufacturers is Royal Enfield, which is set to debut a new electric motorcycle on November 4th. As teased by the company, we will witness the first ever electric motorcycle from Royal Enfield.
In the teaser, we can see a retro motorcycle air-dropped from the sky with a parachute strapped on. This could be a historical reference to Royal Enfield’s Flying Flea, which was used by British Paratroopers during World War II. But will the motorcycle be called Flying Flea? Let’s take a look at the possibilities.
    Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle Teaser
    Royal Enfield EV Teaser
Iconic motorcycle manufacturer, Royal Enfield, has a rich heritage and played a crucial role in British soldier’s mobility in the battlefield. The company leans on its heritage whenever possible and has drawn multiple references from the past. With their upcoming electric bike, Royal Enfield seems to be doing the same.
When Royal Enfield teased their first ever electric motorcycle, to be debuted on 4th November, it looked like it was a clear reference to Flying Flea from the past. Refreshing your memory, Royal Enfield Flying Flea is a 125cc single-cylinder 2-stroke motorcycle. It was used by British Paratroopers during World War II.
    Royal Enfield Flying Flea
Flying Flea was designed to be dropped from aeroplanes into the battlefield with the help of parachutes. This motorcycle weighed only 56 kg, making it apt for airdrop exercises. This motorcycle had a special frame around it, for the parachute. A model which was based on a German DKW ( irony!).
Speculation is that Royal Enfield might use Flying Flea name with their upcoming electric motorcycle. That may be a reason why the company teased their upcoming EV with a parachute, which might be a hint as to what this motorcycle could be named.
    Royal Enfield Flying Flea
    What to expect?
Royal Enfield has trademarked the name Flying Flea in markets like Europe. Even in India, Flying Flea name is registered by its parent company Eicher Motors Limited. This means Royal Enfield’s upcoming electric motorcycle that goes by Electrik 01Concept, can be named Flying Flea, upon launch.
It has a retro design with a unique frame design that engulfs the bike’s batteries. There is a fuel tank-like element for aesthetics with a teardrop design. Front forks are of Girder type and might make it to production as well. Performance might be in line with other 350cc bikes from Royal Enfield. Range could be around 150 km on a single charge.

New Hero Mavrick 440 Scrambler Variant Design Leaked – Debut At EICMA?

New Hero Mavrick 440 Scrambler VariantWith multiple new design elements and rugged attributes, new Hero Mavrick 440 Scrambler variant is likely to debut at EICMA 2024
Hero MotoCorp has a busy schedule around EICMA Show 2024. The company is set to showcase 4 new products at the grand event. While speculations suggested Karizma 250, Xtreme 250R, Xpulse 210 and a new variant of Vida, Hero has officially confirmed that there is a new variant of Mavrick 440 incoming.
Now, we have got our hands on the leaked patent design of this upcoming motorcycle. From the looks of it, Hero MotoCorp is carving out a Scrambler-ish version of Mavrick 440 and it is aimed at appealing to the rising interest among motorcycle enthusiasts looking for an off-road flavour. Let’s take a look at design changes.
    Mavrick 440 Scrambler Variant
Hero and Harley-Davidson partnership have high sales expectations from their co-developed 440 platform. However, sales are still in the favour of Royal Enfield camp consisting of Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450. While Hero’s Xpulse 440 is still a long time into development, the company intends to bridge the gap with a Scrambler variant of Mavrick 440.
Where design is concerned, Hero’s new Mavrick 440 Scrambler variant is a much more appealing proposition than the vanilla product it is based on. There are many new design elements with the new motorcycle successfully lending a much more rugged and macho look that target audience will probably appreciate.
    Mavrick 440 Scrambler
For starters, we get a new fly screen and fork gaiters transforming the design. It has to be noted that this motorcycle is still sprung by RSU telescopic front forks and not USDs like its Harley-Davidson sibling. The new handlebar comes with a cross brace and we can also see a new alloy wheel design and could get dual-tone effect too.
Fuel tank is carried over, but tank shrouds get a new pattern for a rugged vibe. Even the side body panels are new with this variant. Seat on Mavrick 440 Scrambler variant looks broader and flatter. Also, there is a new grab rail and tail section with turn indicators flanking the tail light. If you’re going for a tail-tidy approach, this new execution should be a lot friendlier.
    Rugged Elements!
Leaving aesthetics aside, there seems to be real ruggedness with Mavrick 440 Scrambler variant. There is a new and beefy guard with this motorcycle adding a lot of character and protection. Speaking of protection, there is a bash plate as well, that could be made out of metal.
    Mavrick 440 Scrambler
While not seen in these leaked design patents, we hope there are dual-sport tyres to finish off the rugged looks. There will be an increase in weight and price with this new motorcycle. Engine is likely to be the same, a 440cc single-cylinder oil-cooled motor with 27 bhp and 36 Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. More
