Speaking to CNBC TV18, he said “There will be at least one more Triumph to be introduced later this year and there are several in development”. It will bear the iconic charm of a Cafe Racer genre and will be a unique proposition at around 2.5 lakh (ex-sh).Rajiv Bajaj has also hinted at several other Triumph motorcycles being in development. Probable motorcycles would cater to multiple genres. After Roadster, Scrambler and Cafe Racer, there could be a Bobber with Bonneville or Speedmaster name, a fully-faired machine with Daytona name, or even a capable ADV with Tiger Sport name.Triumph Thruxton 400 RenderPushing the middle-weight segment envelopeAccording to Rajiv Bajaj, middle-weight motorcycle space is the most lucrative segment in the world. Bajaj aims to be in the top three of any given segment. Within middle-weight motorcycle segment, Bajaj currently sells Dominar 400 and the recently launched Pulsar NS400Z along with Speed 400 twins and the 390 range with partner brands like Triumph, Husqvarna and KTM.Currently, this segment is dominated by Royal Enfield with a slew of 350cc and 450cc motorcycles. Bajaj aims to inch closer towards Royal Enfield’s numbers. Bajaj mentioned that the company aims to reach the 35,000 motorcycles per month mark in this segment. Which is about half the volume of what Royal Enfield is currently pushing.To meet this goal, Bajaj is on the verge of launching multiple new motorcycles. We should expect a new 390 Adventure, 390 Enduro and new RC 390 under the KTM brand. The blueprints leaked online ahead of launch, reveal interesting details about this upcoming motorcycle.Bajaj CNG Bike Blueprint Leaked – 1For starters, these blueprints don’t show an accurate representation of the bike’s cycle parts and componentry. They show twin rear suspension while the actual bike gets a mono-shock. Blueprints lack spokes for wheels, swingarm, headlights and other elements, all of which production-spec bike will get.Will it get both petrol and CNG?The blueprints show how Bajaj has laid powertrain-related components on this upcoming CNG motorcycle. For space optimisation, Bajaj has used a sloper engine that has been very common in entry-level commuter bikes for decades. It frees up space in engine bay for Bajaj to add CNG cylinder or cylinders.Bajaj CNG Bike Blueprint Leaked – 2CNG refilling nozzle seems to be at the front and cylinder looks like it will be positioned below rider’s seat. This eats into bike’s petrol tank and we should expect a much smaller tank capacity. We should expect a similar approach to petrol tank as conventional bikes with the lid on top.Squeezing CNG storage into this area has led to pushing battery compartment further behind. Bike’s airbox now seems to be pushed all the way back, below pillion seat. An underbelly exhaust would have helped in mass centralization further. But the tight packaging means we will get a conventional exhaust setup.Bajaj CNG Bike Blueprint Leaked – 3All these components are mounted on a double cradle chassis with reinforced braces to hold the heavy CNG cylinder. Engine is likely to be a 110cc unit or a 125cc unit. Pricing will be at a premium owing to the significant development costs. We reckon Rs. 75K to 80K (ex-sh). There is a good chance of Bajaj claiming close to 90 km/kg or even 100 km/kg mileage (fuel efficiency) with this motorcycle.India is the largest motorcycle and scooter market in the world. India is also one of the most price-sensitive markets too. Combining both sentences, we can deduce that Indian market favours very economical 2W vehicles. Following our earlier report on 300cc to 500cc motorcycle sales in March 2024, we now assess sales in the 150-200cc segment. Bajaj Pulsar took the lead as the top choice in the 150-200cc category, a position it has always been in command of, that too by a significant margin.150-200cc Motorcycle Sales March 2024The 150-200cc motorcycle segment has posted a YoY growth of 37.42% to 1,49,800 units in March 2024. This was over 1,09,005 units sold in March 2023 relating to a 40,795 unit volume growth. It was however a 3.96% MoM decline when compared to 1,55,983 units sold in February 2024.150cc to 200cc Motorcycle Sales Mar 2024Bajaj Pulsar range was once again the leader in this segment with a 41.47% YoY growth to 43,512 units sold in March 2024 from 30,756 units sold in March 2023. It was however a MoM decline of 5.86%. Currently commanding a 29.05% share in this segment, the Pulsar range will grow as new models are planned. At No. 2 spot was the TVS Apache, though sales dipped both on YoY and MoM basis to 34,237 units in March 2024. There had been 36,226 units and 34,593 units sold in March 2023 and February 2024 respectively.Honda Unicorn accounted for sales of 19,221 units in the past month relating to a 9.73% MoM decline over 21,293 units sold in February 2024 while 3 models from Yamaha followed in quick succession. Yamaha FZ (16,154 units), MT15 (10,697 units) and R15 (10,095 units) saw the FZ post a YoY decline in sales by 15.39% but the MT15 sales escalated by a massive 72.50% YoY along with a 33.16% increase for the R15.150cc to 200cc Motorcycle Sales Mar 2024 vs Mar 2023 – YoY comparison150-200cc Motorcycles Sub-5,000 Unit SalesHonda SP160 was launched in August 2023 in place of the X-Blade and accounted for sales of 4,815 units in March 2024. April 2024 sales results are out and each of the major OEMs show off outstanding results with double digit growth. Talking specifically about the 6 leading two wheeler makers, the list was headed by Hero MotoCorp and Honda while sales of TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Suzuki and Royal Enfield also ended positively both in terms of YoY and MoM sales.Two Wheeler Domestic Sales April 2024In domestic markets, total 2 wheeler sales of these 6 leading OEMs shot up 31.40% YoY and 18.59% MoM to 16,75,846 units. There had been 12,75,397 units sold in April 2023 and 14,13,152 units sold in March 2024. Taking into account YoY sales, this was a volume growth of an astronomical 4,00,449 units. Hero MotoCorp once again topped the domestic sales list with 5,13,296 units sold last month, a 31.91% YoY and 11.77% MoM growth to command a 30.63% share.Two Wheeler Sales April 2024Honda two wheeler sales in April 2024 went up 42.20% YoY and 34.31% on a MoM basis to 4,81,046 units. There had been 3,38,289 units and 3,58,151 units sold in April 2023 and March 2024 respectively. Honda Activa scooter is among the lead sellers in the company portfolio along with the CB Shine and Dio.TVS Motor also reported increased sales in April 2024 by 29.40% YoY to 3,01,449 units while its MoM sales were up 15.71% over 2,60,532 units sold in March 2024. The company currently commands a 17.99% share on this list. Bajaj Auto (2,16,950 units) Suzuki (88,067 units) and Royal Enfield (75,038 units) have each posted outstanding YoY and MoM growth in sales in April 2024. It was once again the RE 350cc range that saw its sales in stark contrast to its more powerful models.Two Wheeler Sales – April 2024Two Wheeler Exports April 2024Exports also improved by 23.83% on a YoY basis while it suffered a MoM set back by 1.31% in April 2024. Exports grew from 2,40,095 units shipped in April 2023 to 2,97,313 units in the past month while there had been 3,01,269 units exported in March 2024. Most two wheeler makers with the exception of Honda have seen a MoM decline in exports while all but Suzuki saw their YoY exports improve by great numbers.Two Wheeler Exports – April 2024It was Bajaj Auto that amassed the highest exports at 1,24,839 units in April 2024, up 17.60% over 1,06,157 units shipped in April 2024 to command a 41.99% share on this list. The company however suffered a MoM decline of 4.62%.TVS exports were up to 73,143 units in the past month followed by Honda with 60,900 units shipped. Hero MotoCorp reported a 104.46% YoY growth to 20,289 units in April 2024 from just 9,923 units exported in April 2024, though the company suffered a 34.88% MoM decline.
