    2021 Kawasaki Z H2, Z H2 SE BS6 India Launch Price Rs 21.90 L, Rs 25.9 L

    2021 Kawasaki Z H2 SE
Kawasaki Z H2 shares the same powertrain and mechanicals with its supersport faired sibling- Ninja H2

Kawasaki has widened its product portfolio in India by launching the supercharged hyperbike Z H2 and its premium variant Z H2 SE. The former has been priced at Rs 21.90 lakh while the latter has been priced at Rs 25.90 lakh. All prices are ex-sh. Both variants will be made available in a standard Metallic Diablo Black/Golden Blazed green dual-tone paint scheme.
The Japanese motorcycling giant had opened bookings for the supercharged naked roadster last year, however, the launch got delayed thanks to the outbreak of novel coronavirus. The bike will arrive in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will be imported only against order, just like its supersport sibling- H2.
    Design & Features
Interested customers can book their Z H2 and Z H2 SE from Kawasaki India’s official website or a nearby dealership. One can expect a waiting period between three to four months on either of the variants.
The naked roadster follows the Sugomi design language that can be seen on other motorcycles from the Japanese brand’s Z series. Its dynamic crouching form lends it a very aggressive stance. Overall it adopts a minimalist approach to its styling.
    2021 Kawasaki Z H2
The supercharged bike is laced with a plethora of features and electronic aids, some of which are cruise control, IMU-based traction control, cornering ABS, a bi-directional quick-shifter and launch control. It features three riding modes- Road, Sport and Rain; and three power modes- Full, Middle and Low.
Its design is complemented by an all-LED lighting setup. It also receives a 4.3-inch TFT display which is offered with Bluetooth connectivity and Kawasaki’s Rideology app for certain tuning and OBD functions.

    Powertrain
Coming to its powertrains, both variants of the naked roadster are powered by a 998cc in-line four-cylinder Balanced Supercharged Engine which kicks out a massive 197.2 bhp and 137 Nm of peak torque. This unit is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch for smoother gear shifts.
    Hardware Setup
Differences between the variants can be found in their hardware configurations. While both motorcycles are based on a high-tensile steel Trellis frame, the standard Z H2 is suspended by Showa Separate Function Big Piston forks at front and a Showa mono-shock at rear.
On the other hand, Z H2 SE’s architecture is assisted by higher grade equipment that benefits from Showa Skyhook’s electronically adjustable suspension. While in the former, braking duties are handled by Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers with dual discs at front and a single disc at rear, the rear gets Brembo Stylema anchorage setup with dual discs at front and a single disc at rear.
Z H2 and Z H2 SE are currently the only supercharged models in Kawasaki’s portfolio in India. In fact, they are the only supercharged motorcycles on sale in the country. As of now there are no direct rivals of Z H2 in India, however, things might spice up a little if and when Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory arrives in India. More

Honda Two Wheeler Sales Dec 2020 – Activa, Dio, Unicorn, Hornet, Shine, CB 350

    Honda Activa 6G
Honda 2Wheelers India reports domestic wholesales growth in December 2020, and in total sales in Q3 FY21

With December 2020, done and dusted, Honda 2Wheelers India has reported 5 percent growth in domestic sales. Total (domestic and exports) sales for December grew by three percent YoY. At the same time, MoM sales have declined by almost 40%. In all Q3 FY21 sales is reported at 5 percent YoY growth.
Domestic sales is up at five percent at 2,42,046 units in December 2020 up from 2,30,197 units YoY. Exports are at a decline of 19.56 percent at 20,981 units, down from 25,086 units. Total sales in December 2020 stood at 2,63,027 units up from 2,55,283 units. Wholesales for the quarter ended in December swelled to 11,49,101 units from 10,91,299 units.
    Short term outlook for HMSI
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Director – Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “After the positive retail and wholesale traction in December’20, we enter 2021 with a new hope. The 3rd quarter marked the first quarter of positive sales after a long time.”
About 50% of the total sales are thanks to Activa scooters. Other strong performers for Honda are CB Shine, Dio, Unicorn, Livo, Grazia, Hornet and newly launched CB350. Below is the company’s sales performance for Dec 2020.
Honda Two Wheeler Sales Dec 2020
HMSI foresees growth in the next 2 quarters too. This is on account of low base sales at the start of 2020. First quarter of 2020 started as any other. But the growing risks of Covid-19 pandemic meant the country went into an indefinite lockdown towards the end of March 2020.
With catastrophic effects on manufacturing and sales. This was also an important period to sell all BS4 stock that manufacturers had as BS6 emission norms were mandated from April 1, 2020. Honda of course had initiated transition well in advance.
April went down in history with all auto manufacturers reporting no sales. Q2 of 2020 took a real beating with manufacturing starting in a phased manner through May 2020. A smooth business run was still weeks away as folks grappled with stealing supply chains and logistics. While Q3 saw activity pick up, it was in Q4 that Honda was sprightly. Traditionally, the festive season has over time proven to be one of planned purchases wherein demand peaks.
Honda Motorcycle Scooter India 20th Anniversary
HMSI says ‘positive growth and market expansion may take some time’. In the meantime, there’s much to look forward to at Honda. 2021 marks the manufacturer’s two decade long presence in India, and 20th Anniversary celebrations will be on. This apart, a range of product launches are scheduled across varied segments.
A wide ranging product portfolio means, Honda has that many opportunities to receive a segment and product. In 2020 alone, manufacturer was able to introduce a dozen products, most of which were BS6 transition models. It did launch the all new Hornet 2.0 and Hness 350 to improve its market reach further by widening the segments it does business in. More

2022 KTM Duke 390 Patent Images Leak – Gets Radar Based Cruiser Control

    2022 KTM Duke 390. Image – RideApart
The next generation KTM 390 Duke is set to be one of the first products in its segment to offer radar-based cruise control

Transfer of technologies from passenger cars to motorcycles is not a new trend. Over the past few decades, a number of features, especially electronic systems, originated in four wheelers and eventually found their way on to motorcycles.
The ongoing push to make the cars semi- or fully autonomous is also bound to have some rub off on the two wheeler segment. The radar-based cruise control system which has started cropping up on high-end motorcycles is just the beginning.
KTM 390 Duke with radar technology
KTM has a reputation for bringing premium features to the medium and compact displacement segment. The current KTM 390 Duke packs in full LED headlight, colour TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, WP suspension, slipper and assist clutch, dual-channel ABS, and so on.
So, the emergence of a patent application showing radar technology on what appears to be the next gen 390 Duke platform does not come as a surprise to us. KTM is close to bringing the radar-based advanced rider assistance system technology into production with its new 1290 Adventure.
    2022 KTM Duke 390 Leaked Patent Image – 1
The patent filing represents a simpler version that could go into the brand’s popular medium displacement motorcycles. The patent filing proposes three solutions for the front-mounted radar module, all embedded into the headlight system.
The first design has the radar sensor mounted lower in the headlight cluster, just below the heat sink while the second one features the sensor above the heat sink. The former would be ideal for an adventure tourer with a tall ride height while the latter would be more suitable for lower riding road bikes where a higher mounting point within the headlamp cowl would make for a better angle for the radar.
    2022 KTM Duke 390 Leaked Patent Image – 2
The third option represents a Husqvrana-style circular headlamp with the radar module located in the center. This indicates that the technology will also be available on future iterations of Husqvarna road bikes like Vitpilen and Svartpilen.
    The application
The radar modules, depending on the number and location, have multiple applications on a motorcycle. The obvious use of front-mounted radar module is adaptive cruise console and emergency brake assist. Higher end models usually also employ a rear-mounted unit which facilitates features like rear collision warning, blind spot detection etc.
    2022 KTM Duke 390 Leaked Patent Image – 3
However, in the interest of keeping costs low, the smaller Duke is expected to be equipped only with the front module. It is to be noted that the radar-based assistance systems would also need IMU (Inertial Measurement Sensor) to function safely.
KTM 390 Duke Supermoto variant in the making?
The sketch of the motorcycle used to illustrate the radar technology in the patent filing appears to be a variant of the next generation 390 Duke. The sketch represents updated trellis frame with new rear sub-frame and spoke wheels. While one shouldn’t read too much into the patent sketch which is usually used only for representative purposes, it does add some gravity to the claims that a supermoto variant of the 390 Duke is in the pipeline. 2021 Suzuki Burgman Electric Scooter Spied – Bajaj Chetak Rival Detailed

    2021 Suzuki Burgman Electric Scooter
The Suzuki Burgman electric scooter eschews on the exhaust canister but gains an addition shock absorber at the rear

Suzuki Burgman electric scooter has been doing trial runs in public without camouflage for a few weeks now, and it has been caught on tape up close. Latest spy shots and video are credit to automotive enthusiast Abhishak Mann, who shared them on Rushlane Spylane Facebook group.
    Suzuki Burgman electric
Touted to be Suzuki’s first EV in our market, the scooter carries forward the IC-engined model’s styling but things under the skin are significantly different. Last year, Suzuki made its intention of venturing into the promising electric scooter segment clear. The Burgman electric, going by the state of the prototypes, is on track to be introduced sometime later this year.
Apart from the new dual-tone colour theme, the obvious difference between the IC-engine model and the electric one is the addition of another shock absorber at the rear to handle the extra weight. Detailed specifications are still under wraps but we expect the motor to be >permanent magnet synchronous unit (AC) mounted close to the vehicle’s center of gravity.
The motor is likely to employ a belt drive and is estimated to have a power output of 5-6 kW. The Suzuki Burgman electric is expected to be equipped with a lithium-ion battery with an estimated range of 100 to 120 km. The scooter will receive FAME-II subsidy just like its rivals.
    2021 Suzuki Burgman Electric Scooter
    Equipment
Being a premium offering, the Suzuki Burgman electric will come with a comprehensive array of features. For starters, just like its IC-engined sibling, the EV is equipped with front disc brake, a fully digital instrument console, alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. We can expect the Suzuki electric scooter to come with smartphone connectivity and a dedicated app.
    2021 Suzuki Burgman Electric Scooter
The prototypes spotted so far have been featuring halogen headlamp with LED DRLs while the petrol model which is currently on sale is offered with full LED setup. It remains to be seen if it is a cost cutting measure or the final production-ready version will get LED headlights.
    2021 Suzuki Burgman Electric Scooter
When it comes to performance, we expect the Suzuki Burgman electric to have a top-speed of around 80 kmph with a 0-40 kmph acceleration time of under 4 seconds. In other words, the performance will be on par with its primary rivals.
    Design
The Burgman’s imposing presence and a comfortable setup for long commute would give it an edge over the competition. The maxi-scooter body style dwarfs other premium electric scooters in the market like the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. The design highlights include a massive front apron with prominent headlamp, generously proportioned seat, alloy grab rail and smart-looking rear combination lights.

    2021 Royal Enfield Cruiser 650
Royal Enfiled KX650 cruiser will be powered by the same 649cc engine powering the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650

That Royal Enfield has been planning to extend its range of 650cc motorcycles has already been in news for a long time now. The Chennai-based bikemaker has been planning to utilise its 650cc unit in a proper cruiser bike next.
Royal Enfield had also presented its Concept KX bobber at EICMA in Milan in 2018. Post that, there were reports indicating that there would be a cruiser from the company in coming years. Although no official information has been shared by Royal Enfield regarding this till date. But recently, there were spy shots clicked of a RE test mule, which looks like their upcoming 650cc cruiser.
    Design
After the first spy shots appeared, buzz over the upcoming 2021 Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser has increased even more. Now, we have another set of spy images with us which gives few more details about the upcoming motorcycle. In this case, as well, the prototype was devoid of any camouflage.
KX650 features a low slung profile, circular headlamps, long wheelbase, slender fuel tank and alloy wheels. Unlike the KX Concept bobber, the KX650 cruiser gets split seats for pillion instead of a single-piece seat. From the parts seen on board, it is likely that this is a near-production ready test mule.

Pure EV Electric Scooters To Get Lithium-Ion Batteries That Can Resolve Defects Automatically

    Pure EV Electric Scooter
PURE EV’s ‘BaTRics Faraday’ System can address the issues in defective battery right from the customer’s residence

PURE EV is a electric vehicle startup which was incubated at IIT Hyderabad. Now, it has come up with an Artificial Intelligence backed update that can address any issue of defects in the lithium-ion battery pack of electric vehicles. This system does not need to vehicle to be brought to any service center for rectification but can be done at the customer’s residence itself.
Called ‘BaTRics Faraday’ System, it remotely checks defects in a series of batteries using Artificial Intelligence with no need of any manual intervention. The team of researchers has designed Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based algorithms that can identify various series of batteries and rectify the defects to their best electro chemical potential of cells.
    Next Gen AI Solution
The lithium-ion battery pack, which is the most vital component of any electric vehicle, consists of multiple lithium ion cells, welded together in series and parallel arrangements so as to comply with voltage and ampere hour capacities.
Any defect in any cell series in these batteries leads to downtime. It is also a mammoth task to detect which are the defective series of cells and to get them replaced. Hence via this new AI driven hardware, this task is made easy which allows for external detection and rectification thus saving man hours in the manual replacement of series of cells.
Pure EV Electric Scooter Batteries with next-gen AI tech
Testing of the ‘BaTRics Faraday’ system has been completed and can be used on all 5 electric scooters launched by PURE EV in India. These e-scooters are already in sale in India, these include the Epluto 7g, Etrance Neo, Etrance, Egnite and Etron+. The system will come into effect from Q1 2021.
As on date, ‘BaTRics Faraday’ System from PURE EV is based out of its factory. However, the company plans to set up company owned Battery Diagnostics and Repair workshops across many regions in India where demand is high. These workshops will ensure lower ‘Turn Around Time’ (TAT) for battery repair.

    PURE EV – CISR Collaboration
Earlier last month, PURE EV also announced collaboration with CSIR – Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRI), headquartered at Karaikudi, with an extension center in Chennai. Through this alliance, the company plans on indigenizing lithium-ion battery technology for electric vehicles and a MoU to this effect has also been signed. This will allow for indigenous Lithiou-Ion technology and will help in boosting electric vehicle demand along with stationary and storage applications.
The Hyderabad based PURE EV startup operates from a dedicated factory spread over an area of 70,000 sq ft. It manufactures high performance lithium batteries and has access to R&D facilities from IIT Hyderabad along with technological support. Funding was via Hyderabad-based pharmaceuticals visionary Shri V.C. Nannapaneni, Chairman and Managing Director, NATCO Pharma Ltd, and the startup currently has a valuation of USD 35 Million. More
