LML Electric Scooter In The Making – Confirms Company

Image for referenceLML hasn’t shared any details of the upcoming electric scooter or revealed any specific launch timeline
Iconic yesteryear two-wheeler brand LML has announced its comeback to the Indian two-wheeler market. The company is set to start its second innings in the Indian auto market by venturing into the electric vehicle (EV) space. This development was confirmed by a media release shared by the company.
LML has confirmed it will enter the Indian electric 2-wheeler market with an e-scooter which is said to be a “disruptive product”. The upcoming electric scooter will be called LML Electric. The company has revealed that it has devised an extensive plan to foray into the electric two-wheeler segment and is currently laying the groundwork to reappear in the market.
    LML Electric Scooter
No details of this extensive plan or the upcoming product have been shared by LML yet. The management of the company has received proposals from various technology companies to introduce an LML EV in the market. The brand is being backed by an unnamed investment partner. LML has stated that it plans to invest approximately Rs 1,000 crore over the next 3-5 years.
While LML has refrained from revealing any specific detail, it has revealed that the upcoming e-scooter will be equipped with cutting-edge tech and will be targeted at the upper-middle and urban segments of society. The Kanpur-based company is currently scouting for sites in Madhya Pradesh and Haryana in order to set up a manufacturing plant. LML plans to open around 1,000 dealerships across the country depending on demand and market potential.
    LML Scooter
    Legacy of LML
First launched in 1972, Lohia Machinery Limited, commonly referred to as LML, offered scooters, motorcycles and mopeds as well as spares and accessories in the Indian market. Later in 1983, it joined hands with Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Piaggio Vespa to start joint production of 100cc scooters and entered into several licensing agreements.
The company’s portfolio included multiple two-wheelers including Vespa NV3, Supremo, Select, Star, Select, Sensation and others. The partnership between LML and Vespa ended in 1999 after which the brand continued to produce scooters inspired by Italian design.
These include models like Adreno, Energy and Freedom but failed to create a similar impact. The last nail in the coffin was hammered with the launch of automatic scooters such as Honda Activa and TVS Scooty which became very popular. LML faced financial difficulties and eventually shut shop in 2017.
Speaking about launching old scooters in today’s date – Last year, Bajaj Auto rekindled the famous Chetak brand by launching a new electric scooter with the same name. It has been doing well in sales and is pretty much in demand. It is likely that the LML brand name will help company benefit in the EV race. When launched, the new LML Electric will rival a bunch of e-scooters from Bajaj, TVS, Hero MotoCorp, Ather and Ola. More

Ather Electric Scooter Getting Charged In Kitchen Of 5th Floor Flat – Here’s Why

Ather Electric Scooter Charging Inside KitchenRWA cites infrastructure constraints and risk of fire as reasons against installation of EV charging point in parking bay
A Bengaluru resident and owner of an Ather electric scooter has filed a petition against the Resident’s Welfare Association (RWA) in the civil court and received an interim injunction. The reason for this is that the RWA did not allow installation of an EV charging point in the society parking bay.
Left with no other recourse, Vish Ganti, Vice-President (Product Management and GM) of AutoGrid India, took to LinkedIn citing the difficulties he was facing in connection with charging his e-scooter. In protect, he hauled the e-scooter up to his 5th floor apartment kitchen in his apartment complex at Hulimavu on Bannerghatta Road to charge it.
Vish Ganti also shared a photo on LinkedIn showing his Ather electric scooter parked inside his apartment while charging it from a point in his kitchen. He cautions users that no one should imitate this act as there is a risk of both fire and shock. He has only shared this picture to generate awareness among the EV community.
    Petition Filed
Facing such constraints, Ganti has filed a petition against RWA at the Thubarahalli, Kundalahalli in the city civil court. He has also received an interim injunction for the same. However RWA members hold their ground citing various reasons for taking this stand.
Ather Electric Scooter Charging Inside Kitchen
Ramesh MS, a manager at the housing complex states that out of 300 members in the society, only 3 have electric scooters. 2 of these owners have swappable batteries which can be taken up to their homes for charging. It is hence not feasible for setting up charging infrastructure for only 1 person. However, he also states that the association is on the process of providing charging infrastructure for its residents once a proper survey is done.
Karnataka was the first state to launch an e-vehicle policy in 2017. It is also the hub of electric vehicle manufacture with companies such as Mahindra Electric, Ather Energy, Ola Electric, Bosch, Simple Energy and Sun Mobility having set up base in the state. Bengaluru has seen widespread adoption e-scooters and even as more people are being encouraged to switch from fossil fuel-based to electric vehicles as a new mode of travel, setting up of charging infrastructure in housing complexes remains a major issue.
    Installation Charges
BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company) has started to create awareness on matter, however, the cost involved is something to be taken into account. A charger costs Rs 2,000 while cost involved to wire it to a BESCOM meter is around Rs 11,000. The issues being faced is who will bear cost of installation when only a few EV users reside in the housing complex. Distribution of billing amount among users is also a matter to be contended with along with responsibility of maintenance of the units, safety to other vehicles and whether access to such charging facilities should be extended to visitors or not.
With the use of electric vehicles still in its nascent stage, C K Sreenath, Deputy General Manager, Smart Grid and Electric Vehicles, Bescom has stated that RWAs could approach them for a common charging point and receive power at a fixed rate of Rs 5 per unit.
Vikram Rai, General Secretary, Bangalore Apartments’ Federation also states that EV users is still limited in housing complexes. While they are in the process of planning community charging infrastructure in 3-4 housing complexes on a pilot basis, there are other safety constraints that should be taken into account.

New TVS Fiero, Jupiter 125cc Launch Soon – Pulsar , Activa Rival

New TVS Fiero – Render By Rash GearWith higher disposable incomes, there’s growing preference for 125cc two-wheelers over entry-level 100cc bikes
Aiming for a more balanced portfolio, TVS will be launching all-new Jupiter 125 and a sports commuter motorcycle Fiero 125. Both these products will be entirely new, although they might share engine and other hardware with existing TVS two-wheelers. While Jupiter 125 will rival the likes of Suzuki Access 125 and Honda Activa 125, Fiero 125 will take on Honda CB Shine, Bajaj Pulsar 125 and recently launched Hero Glamour XTEC.
TVS Jupiter 125 – key details
TVS already has the 125cc Ntorq, which is among the bestsellers in this segment. The company feels the need for another 125cc scooter because Ntorq is primarily targeted at a younger audience base.
Ntorq has sporty vibes and is offered in trendy colour options. In comparison, Jupiter has relatively sober design and is meant for everyday commuting needs. Jupiter 125 can be a good option for those who want a powerful scooter, but do not like the trendy / sporty avatar of the Ntorq..
Till date, TVS has kept details about its new two-wheelers tightly under wraps. However, reports indicate that Jupiter 125 will have a completely new design. Only a few styling bits are expected to be borrowed from 110cc Jupiter. To improve its chances against rivals, Jupiter 125 will be good looking as well as practical.
    TVS Jupiter 125 Render
Expect the new Juputer 125 platform to accommodate an electric powertrain as well. We all know vehicle manufacturers have been increasing their focus on EVs. TVS had recently said that they have a dedicated team working on EVs. It is likely that the new Jupiter 125 could spawn into an electric scooter in the near future.
Talking about engine, Jupiter 125 will most likely borrow the unit currently used with Ntorq. However, power and torque output and CVT ratios may be slightly different. On Ntorq, the 125 cc motor churns out 9.25 bhp of max power. The scooter has a top speed of 95 kmph.
Jupiter 125 is expected to get an analogue instrument console. A small digital unit may be added to display information such as trip meter and fuel level. Jupiter 125 could be launched at around the same price as that of Ntorq. The latter is available at a starting price of Rs 72k (ex-showroom, Delhi).
    TVS Fiero 125 Name Registered
    TVS Fiero 125
Before Jupiter 125, TVS will launch its new Fiero 125cc motorcycle. As of now, TVS does not have a 125cc motorcycle on sale in the domestic market. But they do have 125 cc motorcycles on offer in international market.
The new Fiero 125 could use the engine from this existing TVS motorcycles (Star City 125 and Victor 125). Fiero can fill the gap between the company’s entry-level 110cc bikes and Apache RTR series motorcycles. It is expected that Fiero 125 will seek design inspiration from RTR series motorcycles such as 160 4V.

2021 Honda CBR150R Debuts With Updates – New Yamaha R15 Rival

2021 Honda CBR150RWhile Honda CBR150R makes less power Yamaha R15, the former makes more torque than the latter
Honda has launched the updated CBR150R in Malaysia at a starting price of RM12,499 (approx. INR 2.21 lakh). Like the global market, the entry-level superbike from Honda competes against Yamaha YZF R15 in Malaysia. The updated CBR150R went on sale in Indonesia in January earlier this year.
The latest iteration of the fully-faired motorcycle gets a host of updates over its predecessor both in terms of styling and specifications. Starting with its design, CBR150R could be mistaken for the larger CBR250R at first glance as most of the design cues of the former are borrowed from its larger quarter-litre sibling.
    Design & Features
Upfront, CBR150R gets a similar set of dual-beam LED headlights like the quarter-litre sports bike. Design elements such as a sharper front fairing, a muscular fuel tank and a neater tail section also mimic CBR250R.
Other styling highlights include a split-style seat with a raised tail section, arrow-shaped split tail-lamps, upswept exhaust canister, exposed rear subframe and a clip-on handlebar. Overall, the motorcycle looks more aggressive than its predecessor.
    2021 Honda CBR150R
For the Malaysian market, the latest iterations of the sports bike will be available in two colour options namely Matte Charcoal Grey Metallic and Candy Scintillate Red. In terms of features, 2021 CBR150R is equipped with a fully digital LCD instrument console that reads out information from the gear position indicator and fuel consumption meter.
    Mechanical Specs
Coming to its hardware, suspension setup of CBR150R consists of upside-down telescopic forks at front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at rear. The gold-finished front forks from Showa also enhance the overall look of the motorcycle.
Braking duties are carried out by single rotors at front and rear assisted by a dual-channel ABS as standard. It tips the weighing scales at 139kg which is 2 kilos lighter than its nearest rival.
    2021 Honda CBR150R
Powering the updated CBR150R is the same 149 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine which delivers a slightly less output. The Malaysia-spec CBR150R produces 16.09 bhp at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 13.7 Nm at 7,000 rpm which is 1 bhp and 0.7 Nm less than the Indonesia-spec model. Honda has equipped CBR150R with its PGM-Fi fuel-injection system and eSP technology.
This unit is coupled with a six-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch with a chain drive which not only reduces rear-wheel locking and hopping during aggressive downshifts but also brings down lever effort by 15 percent. Launch of the new CBR150R in India looks highly doubtful at the moment. More
