    The automotive industry has been reeling under the effects of the ongoing Covid-19 for a very long time and now it has been facing a semiconductor chips shortage for several months which has adversely hit production across different segments. Even the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer hasn’t been left untouched.
    Production of Hero MotoCorp, like most other OEMs in India, has taken a hit during the recent crisis of semiconductor chip shortage. This has resulted in low sales and exports volumes. However, things appear to be stabilizing very slowly with production improving gradually.
    Hero Sales, Exports Breakup Sep 2021 – Splendor Continues Old Charm
    A total of 5,05,954 two-wheelers were sold by Hero MotoCorp last month which translated to a 27.44 percent YoY decline. On the other hand, the bikemaker witnessed an MoM growth of 17.37 percent. Splendor topped the list of domestic sales in September this year with 2,77,836 units sold as compared to 2,41,703 units sold in August this year. This resulted in MoM growth of 15 percent.
    However, marginal YoY degrowth of 0.86 percent was recorded since 2,80,250 units of the 100cc motorcycle were sold in September 2020. Splendor was followed by another 100cc bike in the form of HF Deluxe with a registered sales volume of 1,34,539 units. This led to a negative YoY growth of 37.77 and a positive MoM growth of 17.42 percent.

    Pleasure- most sold scooter
    The third spot was taken by Glamour with 26,866 units dispatched across the country last month. This translated to a YoY decline of 61.33 percent and an MoM growth of 13.13 percent. Pleasure was the brand’s highest-selling scooter for September this year which recorded a sales volume of 21,648. This resulted in YoY and MoM growths of 7.87 percent and 25.86 percent.
    Hero dispatched 17,191 units of Passion to dealerships across the country last month resulting in a YoY decline of 72.84 percent and an MoM growth of 16 percent. Destini registered a sales volume of 12,358 units which led to a 37 percent YoY decline and a 49.74 percent MoM growth. Maestro, Xtreme 160R and Xpulse 200 recorded a monthly sales volume of 6,1137 units, 5,996 units and 3,375 units respectively.
    Exports- Hunk leads chart
    Coming to exports, as many as 24,783 two-wheelers were dispatched to overseas markets by the company. This translated to YoY growth of 33.78 percent and MoM growth of 8.97 percent. Hunk was the most exported two-wheeler from Hero with 6,999 units shipped overseas. This led to a massive YoY growth of 128 percent and MoM growth of 8 percent.

    A total of 6,229 units of Splendor were shipped abroad last month leading to an MoM growth of 15.87 percent and a marginal YoY growth of 0.31 percent.     Yamaha Motor India sales results for September 2021 are now revealed. The company has suffered de-growth both in terms of YoY and MoM sales. Last month, the company had introduced the new Aerox 155 scooter at Rs 1.29 lakh along with an updated version of 155 cc bike YZF-R15 which came in at a starting price of Rs 1.67 lakh.
    Yamaha Sales Sep 2021 – Domestic market
    Domestic sales and exports suffered a de-growth in a YoY and MoM basis. Domestic sales dipped 19.46 percent to 50,783 units in September 2021, down from 63,052 units sold in the same month of the previous year. MoM sales dipped 6.03 percent as against 54,042 units sold in August 2021.
    Topping domestic sales charts was the Ray ZR of which the company sold 16,121 units last month, down 17.50 percent over 19,540 units sold in September 2020. Ray ZR currently commands a 31.74 percent share, up from 29.73 percent share held in August 2021 when sales had stood at 16,064 units.
    At No. 2, Yamaha Fascino saw better demand in the past month with 14,244 units sold, up 4.43 percent over 13,640 units sold in September 2020. However, MoM sales ended with a 21.03 percent de-growth over 18,037 units sold in August 2020. Yamaha Fascino rivals the likes of Honda Activa 125 and Suzuki Access 125.

    Of the R15, Yamaha noted overwhelming demand with a 151.11 percent YoY increase to 11,792 units in September 2021, up from 4,696 units sold in September 2020. Sales also increased on a MoM basis, up 22.96 percent over 9,590 units sold in August 2021. Yamaha is expected to increase prices of R15 from 1st Nov 2021.
    Domestic sales of the FZ dipped 77.46 percent in September 2021 to 4,550 units, down from 20,184 units sold in September 202. This was also a 40.19 percent de-growth over 7,608 units sold in August 2021.
    Lower down the list was the Yamaha MT15 and FZ25. Sales of the MT15 dipped 39.51 percent on a YoY basis to 2,514 units while MoM sales grew 43.49 percent over 1,752 units sold in August 2021. Of the FZ25, the company experienced an 86.84 percent YoY growth to 1,562 units, up from 836 units sold in September 2020. MoM sales also increased 57.62 percent over 991 units sold in August 2021.

    Yamaha suffered a setback in terms of exports in September 2021. YoY exports dipped 20.04 percent to 18,257 units, down from 22,833 units shipped in September 2020. MoM exports also fell 20.50 percent over 22,965 units shipped in August 2021.
    Leading the export list was Yamaha FZ of which the company shipped 6,570 units in the past month, down 27.18 percent over 9,022 units shipped in September 2020. MoM shipments also dipped 27.87 percent over 9,108 units of August 2021. The FZ range was expanded earlier this year with debut of the FZ-X neo-retro themed roadster
    Exports of the Ray ZR also dipped 57.82 percent YoY and 46.30 percent MoM while the FZ25 posted better numbers. FZ25 exports increased 136.81 percent YoY to 2,226 units, up from 940 units in September 2020 and also saw a 132.36 percent MoM growth over 958 units shipped in August 2021.
    Exports of the Crux, SZ, Saluto and R15 also saw significant growth in a YoY basis. However, on a MoM basis, the Crux, SZ and R15 posted de-growth but the Saluto noted a 75.35 percent growth to 996 units, up from 568 units shipped in August 2021. MT15 exports were down to 1 unit in the past month as against 280 units shipped in September 2020 and 240 units shipped in August 2021.     A lot has changed since the time Pulsar twins (150 and 180) were launched in November 2001. Pulsar bikes have played a key role in helping the company establish itself as a popular motorcycle brand. Pulsar range has been expanded over the years to include several new products. It currently starts with the entry level Pulsar 125 and extends to the most powerful Pulsar 220F. Range topping naked and fully faired models are NS200 and RS200.
    Twenty years later, Bajaj has launched the biggest Pulsar ever made. It is the N250 and F250. Both these motorcycles are completely new, built from the ground up on a new chassis, powered by a new engine and comes with new tech and features.     New Pulsar 250 bikes will have a muscular profile and dominating street presence. The overall look and feel is more refined in comparison to other Pulsar motorcycles. Some of the key features include aggressive headlamp, spear turn signals, large windscreen, and wide clip-on handlebar.
    One of the key differences between naked and semi-faired versions of Pulsar 250 is in their fairing. Pulsar 250F has a more prominent front fascia with the fairing extended all the way to the tank shrouds. The bike’s styling is further enhanced with sporty rear-view mirrors installed on the front apron. The naked model has the same units, but they are mounted on the handlebar.

    There are some differences in ergonomics as well. For example, the naked variant has low-set handlebar, as compared to the slightly raised unit on 250F. Placement of the foot pegs appears to be the same on both bikes. While a comfortable, upright stance will be available, Pulsar 250 can accommodate a more committed riding posture as well.

    Apart from these changes, both models will be largely the same. Some features that are likely to be common across both bikes include the fenders, crash guard, engine cowl, split seats, side mounted twin-barrel exhaust, split grab rails, tail section, rear tyre hugger and rear LED taillight.

    Pulsar 250 gets a new 250cc motor. It is different, as compared to the one currently in use with KTM 250cc bikes, Dominar 250 and Husqvarna 250. The new engine is capable of generating 24 bhp of max power and 21.5 Nm of peak torque. It will be coupled with a 5-speed gearbox.

    Realme Electric Scooter Planned For Launch In India?

    Electric mobility has opened up a lot of possibilities for future modes of transportation. It has also diluted the gap between industries worldwide as many well-established, as well as new startups from different areas of business, are venturing into the electric mobility space.
    Incorporation of newer technologies that aren’t just mechanical in nature has primarily contributed to the burst of new contributors in this space. We have already heard examples of technology giants such as Sony and Apple trying to build their respective versions of an electric car.
    Realme Stepping Into EV Space?
    Another major player in the electronics technology space which is planning to enter the electric vehicle (EV) space is Realme. The Chinese manufacturer is one of the most sought-after smartphone brands in the world. The company sold over one million units of its smartphones in April 2021 in its home market itself. It also has many models lined up for the future as well.
    Recently, it became the fastest smartphone brand ever to export 100 million smartphones internally and the feat was achieved in a span of just 37 months. Apart from China, the brand has a very strong presence in India too.
    Realme name registered in Electric Vehicle category
    The company’s brand name ‘Realme’ has been trademarked under the “vehicles, apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water” in India. Interestingly, this trademark was filed by the parent company- Realme Mobile Telecommunications (Shenzhen) Co Ltd. just a few months after the company launched its first smartphone under the Realme brand. Within forty days of its launch, the company was able to go past 4 lakh sales volume for Realme One smartphone.
    Realme is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, a subsidiary company of BBK electronics. It was founded in May 2018 by Sky Li, who was the former VP of Oppo, and the Head of Oppo India. BBK also owns Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and many others. China is currently the largest producer of two wheeler EVs. With India emerging as a top destination for electric scooters and motorcycles in the near future, it does not come as a surprise that BBK is likely planning to enter the electric scooter space in India via Realme brand.
    Realme Electric Scooter – More Possibilities
    Coming back to the trademark, it was filed in October 2018, four months after the smartphone was launched. While trademarks do not necessarily guarantee a launch, it shows that the company has definitely given thought to build technologies for electric vehicle space. Whether the company goes solo or forms a partnership with another mobility firm is yet to be seen.

    It is believed that Realme would initially venture into the electric two-wheeler segment, however, no details regarding the same could be confirmed yet. Realme would be closely looking into the EV space with new faces venturing into the EV space very regularly.     Top 10 Motorcycles 200cc To 500cc Sep 2021 – Classic, Meteor, Pulsar, CB350, FZ25

    Mid-displacement segment of motorcycles, especially in the 200cc-500cc category, have been the flavour of choice for bike enthusiasts for many years. This segment has been dominated by Royal Enfield over the past few decades even though multiple new offerings by different OEMs are available in this space now.
    However, the segment witnessed a sharp downfall in September 2021 after registering a YoY decline of 41 percent and an MoM of 19.62 percent. A total of 39,599 motorcycles with displacements between 200cc and 500cc were dispatched by OEMs to dealerships across the country.
    Motorcycles 200cc To 500cc Sep 2021 – RE Classic, Meteor Sales Decline
    In comparison, 67,220 bikes were sold in September last year and 49,263 units were sold in August this year. The segment was headed by Royal Enfield Classic 350 which recently received a generation upgrade last month. Despite the comprehensive update, Classic 350 witnessed a sizeable slump in sales volume last month which stood at 13,751 units.
    During the same period last year, 38,827 units of Classic were sold while this figure dropped to 23,453 units in August this year. This resulted in a YoY and MoM decline of 64.58 percent and 41.37 percent respectively. It was followed by its sibling Meteor 350 which recorded a monthly volume of 6,184 units as opposed to 6,381 units in August this year which led to an MoM degrowth of 3 percent.

    Himalayan, CB350 Make Gains
    Bajaj Pulsar 220 jumped up to the third spot with 4,108 units dispatched last month despite a marginal MoM decline of 1.27 percent. With 5,117 units sold in September last year, a negative YoY growth of 19.72 percent was recorded. Royal Enfield Himalayan generated a sales volume of 3,633 units last month, thus witnessing an impressive YoY and MoM growth of 184.27 percent and 31.16 percent respectively.
    Honda has been pulling off great numbers with CB350 but has always fallen short of its Royal Enfield counterparts. The Japanese bikemaker sold 2,995 units of the 350cc classic roadster which translates to an MoM growth of 186 percent.
    RE Bullet recorded a sales volume of 2,107 units this year as opposed to 3,669 units sold in August this year and 8,883 units sold in September this year. This led to MoM and YoY degrowth of 42.57 percent and 76.28 percent respectively.
    Motorcycle Sales 200cc To 500cc Segment – Sep 2021 vs Aug 2021
    Growth in volumes for FZ25, Dominar 400
    Yamaha broke into the list with FZ25 registering a volume of 1,562 units in September this year. The quarter-litre naked streetfighter witnessed a YoY growth of 86.84 percent and MoM growth of 57.62 percent. Bajaj sold 1,222 units of Dominar 400 and was placed eighth on the list. The tourer registered a YoY growth of 38 percent and MoM growth of 110 percent last month.
    Dominar 400 was followed by KTM 250 series which comprises the Duke and ADV range of motorcycles. While it recorded an MoM decline of 18.77 percent, YoY figures saw an increase of 4.17 percent.     Yamaha received rousing applause from all corners when it launched a brand new generation of R15. Called R15 V4, the baby superbike features a plethora of upgrades over its predecessor- R15 V3. For the number of updates seen on the new model, the new R15 has been priced very competitively, starting at Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom).
    The motorcycle tops out at Rs 1.80 lakh for the range-topping Monster Energy MotoGP Edition. Thanks to the overall package paired with an attractive pricing, the entry-level sports bike became the highest-selling motorcycle for the Japanese brand in India for the month of September 2021.
    Yamaha R15 V4 Prices Increase – Nov 2021
    As per dealer sources, R15 V4 is set to witness its first price hike very soon. Prices of the fully-faired motorcycle will be increased by Rs 3,000 and the revised prices will take effect from 1 November 2021. Yamaha India is yet to announce official price hike.
    The updated prices will not come with any changes on the bike though. This means, starting next month, prices of R15 V4 will likely start at Rs 1.71 lakh and go up to Rs 1.83 lakh (both prices ex-showroom).

    The standard variant of R15 is available in three colour options namely Metallic Red, Dark Knight and Racing Blue. The R15M trim is offered in a silver paint scheme with Blue accents while the top-spec MotoGP Edition comes in a black paint scheme with MotoGP-inspired body graphics and Monster Energy branding on fuel tank and side fairings.
    Specifications & Features
    Powering R15 V4 is a familiar 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine coupled with a 6-speed gearbox that benefits from a slipper and assist clutch. Equipped with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology, this motor churns out 18.2 bhp power at 10,000rpm and 14.1 Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. Suspension duties on the bike are now taken care of by golden-coloured USD forks upfront which not only improve handling but also enhance its aesthetic appeal.
    Rear suspension consists of a mono-shock unit. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends complemented by dual-channel ABS as standard. In terms of features, the new R15 offers an all-LED illumination, a fully digital LCD instrument console with Yamaha’s connectivity feature and Bluetooth, a side-stand cut-off switch, traction control and a quick-shifter.

    Kawasaki recently unveiled its new 650cc retro motorcycle based on its famed naked streetfighter Z650. The motorcycle made its global debut last month and will soon be heading towards Indian shores. In fact, the Japanese superbike brand has already started testing the upcoming motorcycle on Indian roads.
    Latest spy shots are credit to automotive enthusiast Aniket Deshpande, who spotted the Upcoming Kawasaki 650cc Classic Roadster on the Palm Beach road in Navi Mumbai. Aniket says that the test mule was performing high speed runs on the road. He only managed to click the photos when the rider had to halt at a traffic signal.
    Upcoming Kawasaki 650cc – New Retro-Style Design
    The classic roadster is expected to be launched in our country by the end of this year. As mentioned previously, the design of Z650 RS is heavily inspired by its larger sibling Z900 RS. Interestingly, the test mule spotted has been wrapped under camouflage.
    The styling of the testing prototype is in tune with the international-spec model which made its debut recently barring a small addition. The India-spec mule was seen with an odd-looking pillion grab rail at the tail section. Rest of the details are identical with retro-inspired highlights such as a round LED headlamp, twin-pod instrument cluster, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a flat single-piece saddle and circular rearview mirrors.
    Upcoming Kawasaki 650cc Classic Roadster – Z650 RS spied in Mumbai
    Other styling highlights such as multi-spoke alloy wheels and underbelly exhaust have been carried forward from its naked street racer sibling. The blacked-out components of side panels, engine, gearbox and alloys give Z650RS a sporty appeal. Chrome embellishments around headlamps, exhaust pipe, front forks and instrument console give it a premium look.
    Overall, Z650 RS sports a neo-retro design with styling inspired by classic motorcycles of yesteryears but with a modern touch. The international model is available with three colour options namely Candy Emerald Green, Metallic Moondust Grey/Ebony and Metallic Spark Black. We can expect these paint schemes to be on offer in India as well.
    Features & Specs
    In terms of features, Z650 RS gets full LED lighting along with a semi-digital instrument console and ride modes probably. It will borrow its underpinnings from other 650cc models from Kawasaki’s lineup such as Z650 and Ninja 650. This means Z650 RS will be based on a trellis frame which is suspended on 41mm front telescopic forks and a horizontal backlink rear preload-adjustable mono-shock.

    Braking duties will be handled by twin 300mm discs up front and a single 220mm disc at the rear. This setup is aided by a dual-channel ABS. Powering Z650 RS is a familiar 649cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that dishes out 67.3 bhp at 8,000rpm and peak torque of 64 Nm at 6,700rpm. This unit is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox which comes with a slipper and assist clutch.
    Z650 RS is expected to be priced anything between Rs 6.50 – 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon its launch, Z650 RS will not have a direct rival in the segment, in the segment. Royal Enfield 650 Twins could be considered as rivals by some, but they are priced in the Rs 3.5 lakh range. More

    Bajaj Auto finished 4th on the list of best-selling two wheeler makers in India in September 2021. It was preceded by Hero MotoCorp, Honda and TVS. Bajaj Auto reported total sales of 1,73,945 units in September 2021, relating to a YoY de-growth of 20.75 percent, as against 2,19,500 units sold in September 2020. MoM growth was more positive as compared to 1,57,971 units sold in August 2021.
    Though Bajaj Pulsar contributed significant number to total domestic sales last month, every variant suffered significant de-growth. It was a YoY sales de-growth of 43.55 percent in domestic markets to 57,974 units as against 1,02,698 units sold in September 2020.
    On a MoM basis, sales dipped 11.82 percent with 65,747 units sold in August 2021. Exports on the other hand suffered a YoY de-growth of 19.16 percent to 35,710 units from 44,175 units sold in September 2020. However, it noted a 4.28 percent MoM growth over 34,243 units shipped in August 2021.

    Bajaj Pulsar 125 was a favorite in domestic markets. The company sold 39,081 units in September 2021, down from 51,540 units sold in September 2020. Sales numbers improved in a MoM basis by 19.66 percent over 32,659 units sold in August 2021.

    Next in line was the Pulsar 150 of which the company sold 11,082 units in domestic markets last month. This was a YoY de-growth of 71.12 percent over 38,366 units sold in the same month last year. MoM sales also dipped significantly by 54.32 percent over 24,261 units sold in August 2021.
    YoY sales of the 220F along with that of 160, 180 and 200 also dipped 19.72 percent and 51.75 percent respectively. MoM sales were down 1.27 percent for the 220F and down 20.24 percent for the Pulsar 160,180 and 200.
    Bajaj Auto is set to launch the new Pulsar 250 and Pulsar 250F in India on 28th October. The models have been spied on test and besides being the biggest Pulsar yet, it is also slated to be the most expensive of the Pulsar series with an expected price close to Rs 1.60 lakh.

    In global markets, it was the Pulsar 160, 180 and 200 that scaled the list. Sales however dipped YoY to 16,254 units, a de-growth of 6.37 percent over 17,359 units sold in September 2020. MoM sales noted a 3.17 percent growth over 15,754 units shipped in August 2021.
    Bajaj Pulsar 150 exports dipped 22.38 percent YoY to 14,064 units in September 2021, down from 18,120 units shipped in September 2020. MoM exports grew 20.81 percent over 11,641 units sold in August 2021. Exports of Pulsar 125 also fell on a YoY basis by 13.54 percent to 5,008 units, down from 5,792 units shipped in September 2020. MoM sales grew by 15.07 percent over 4,352 units sold in August 2021.
    Bajaj Pulsar 220F did not find many takers in global markets either in August or September 2021. Sales dipped to 384 units in September 2021, down 86.78 percent over 2,904 units sold in September 2020. MoM sales also fell significantly by 84.62 percent over 2,496 units shipped in August 2021.
