      Yezdi Roadking 650cc Motorcycle To Rival Royal Enfield – Launch Soon

      Yezdi brand made a resounding comeback to the Indian two-wheeler space earlier this month which involved the launch of three new motorcycles. These included Adventure, Scrambler and Roadster, each brand name denoting their characteristic and class of motorcycles.
      However, we expected the Roadking moniker to make a comeback since it was the primary seller for Yezdi back in the 1980s and 90s. In fact, Classic Legends, maker of Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles in India, has also filed a trademark for the ‘Roadking’ name.
      Yezdi Roadking To Launch Next
      New report reveals that a modern interpretation of the classic Yezdi Roadking is currently under development. This was confirmed by Anupam Thareja, Co-founder of Classic Legends. Thareja added that the motorcycle will be based on a bespoke architecture different from the dual-cradle frame underpinning current Yezdi models.
      The upcoming Roadking will be the brand’s flagship model and could sit at the top of the Yezdi line-up. While the upcoming iteration of Roadking will surely be a modern affair, Classic Legends would hold onto some classic retro styling as it did with the Jawas and the new Yezdis.

      Bigger Source of Power
      Since Roadking will be based on a new platform and will be a flagship model, it is also believed to get a new heart. In all likelihood, Yezdi could borrow the 652cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which recently made its debut in BSA Goldstar 650.
      This engine is good enough to make 45 bhp and 55 Nm of peak torque. The motor is linked with a 5-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch. For reference, BSA is an iconic British motorcycle brand that was revived by Classic Legends last year.
      The 650cc mill should be an automatic choice since Classic Legends would want to utilise this engine and platform in multiple models across different brands to optimise its investment costs. If indeed, Roadking will be powered by this motor, it will be a direct rival to the 650cc Twins from Royal Enfield- Interceptor and Continental GT.
      Expected Features
      While its looks will be retro, the new Roadking will be laced with a piece of modern equipment comprising features like all-LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB charger, a semi-digital instrument cluster, multiple riding modes, and navigation. Hardware configurations are also expected to be similar to BSA Goldstar.
      There is no clear indication of the exact launch timeline of Roadking. But unlike most others, Classic Legends have been faster at launching new motorcycles. Considering that the BSA 650 is already out in the market, Yezdi 650 Roadking should not take long to make its debut. If not later this year, Roadking 650 could probably debut next year, to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Yezdi’s revival.

      Royal Enfield Himalayan Modified Fire Ambulance At Rs 13.5 Lakh

      For the standard set of firefighting trucks, it’s a challenge to reach areas such as slums and other localities with narrow streets. This issue has been faced by fire brigade personnel in several crowded cities in the country. As a solution, two-wheeler-based fire fighting vehicles have been developed. These are in service in several cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kottayam.
      A number of these fire-fighting vehicles are based on Royal Enfield motorcycles. The preference is apparently due to the rugged nature of Royal Enfield motorcycles.
      In many cases, the choice has been Bullet 500cc bike. The latest addition will be Himalayan-based fire fighting vehicles that will be deployed with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

      Himalayan-based firefighting ambulance is equipped with 20-litre water tanks on both sides at the rear. The motorcycle is unlikely to have any issues with the additional weight, as it has been designed to carry heavy luggage. In its stock form, Himalayan comes with dedicated racks at both front and rear.

      At rear, the retrofitted Himalayan also gets a 100-foot pipe and spray nozzle. Other equipment includes a pump for spraying water at high pressure. While the 20-litre tanks will store water by default, it is possible that other fire extinguishing material can be added.
      It’s necessary because water alone cannot extinguish all types of fires. For example, throwing water on petrol fires can actually cause them to flare up further. Himalayan firefighting bike will have two personnel on board. The bike will serve multiple purposes in addition to dousing fires. For example, it can be used for rescue and evacuation operations from areas where four-wheeled vehicles cannot reach easily.
      It can be used as a reconnaissance bike that can reach the troubled spot quickly and relay information to the control room. The bikes will also work as route clearance vehicles, so that fire brigade team can cruise through traffic and reach the destination in time.

      Initially, three Himalayan fire bikes are being purchased by PCMC at a cost of Rs 13.5 lakh each. It includes the price of the bike and the firefighting equipment that it carries. Stock Himalayan is available at a starting price of Rs 2.16 lakh. The retrofitting is done by a third-party agency that specializes in building firefighting equipment.
      Engine will be same as stock version, a 411cc air cooled, SOHC unit. It generates 24.3 bhp of max power at 6500 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox.
      To ensure it is easily noticeable, Himalayan fire bikes are expected to get a dual-tone colour scheme of red and yellow. This is the standard colour code for firefighting vehicles in most parts of the world. More

      TVS Sales Breakup Dec 2021 – Apache, Raider, Jupiter, Ntorq, XL100

      TVS Motor launched a number of new two wheelers in CY 2021. These included the all-new Jupiter 125, Raider 125 and updated Apache RTR 160 4V. The company ended the last month of the year with lower sales in domestic markets, down 17.04 percent to 1,46,763 units, down from 1,76,912 units sold in December 2020.

      Heading the domestic sales charts was the Jupiter with 38,142 units sold in December 2021, down 0.76 percent from 38,435 units sold in December 2020. XL sales dipped significantly by 44.27 percent to 33,395 units, from 59,923 units sold in December 2020.
      TVS Apache (23,533 units) and Ntorq (16,859 units) also noted lower sales on a YoY basis by 11.31 percent and 34.38 percent respectively. The new Raider added 10,843 units to company sales even as Sport (7,233 units) and Radeon (5,139 units) saw a 2.42 percent and 25.62 percent YoY de-growth.
      TVS Star City was among two other models in the company lineup to post a YoY growth. Star City sales were up 8.04 percent to 4,043 units from 3,742 units sold in December 2020.

      Even as Pep+ (3,695 units) and Zest (2,330 units) suffered a YoY de-growth, that of TVS iQube increased by 1989.66 percent from 58 units sold in December 2020 to 1,212 units sold last month. TVS Apache 310 sales also increased 92.61 percent to 339 units in December 2021.
      TVS Motor Company had also launched the new Apache RTR 165 RP (Race Performance) motorcycle in India in December 2021 at Rs 1.45 lakh. This was a limited edition model restricted to just 200 units and each of these have now been sold out, even before delivery commenced.

      TVS shipped a total of 85,904 two wheelers in the past month, up 7.30 percent over 80,060 units sold in December 2020. It was Star City that stood at the top of exports with a 25.56 percent YoY increase to 32,271 units, up from 25,702 units sold in December 2020.

      The company also noted added exports of the Apache which increased 1.75 percent to 26,819 units in December 2021 from 26,359 units shipped in December 2020. TVS Sport and Ntorq noted a marginal increase in exports on a YoY basis by 0.60 percent and 0.72 percent respectively while of the new Raider, 4,493 units were shipped last month.
      TVS Victor and XL100 sales dipped 41.94 percent to 800 units and 52.31 percent to 744 units respectively while there were 173 units of the RR310 exported in December 2021. Shipments of Wego and Jupiter also dipped 34.13 percent to 166 units and 53.42 percent to 109 units respectively while Radeon exports were down to 0 units even as 520 units were exported in December 2020.       2022 Honda CB300R Debuts – New Colours, More Power, Styling Updates

      Honda CB300R made its maiden appearance at the India Bike Week in December 2021. It later went on sale in the country a few days ago. The neo-retro street naked bike has now made its debut in European markets in an updated avatar.
      2022 CB300R has made a return to European markets after being off the shelves for over a year. The latest iteration of the sports cafe bike comes with subtle styling updates which enhances the bike’s look. The Japanese bikemaker has also made some functional improvements to the bike which give it a better feel while riding.

      Honda has maintained the neo-retro design of CB300R which is the biggest USP of the motorcycle. It gets new colour options including a black on black paint which is similar to the Matte Steel Black shade offered in the India-spec model.
      Mild updates like a black headlamp bezel and darker radiator cowls give the bike a fresh appeal. The exhaust canister has also been made slightly more angular than before.

      The all-black theme with blacked-out running gear and internals accentuates the bike’s sporty appearance. In total, New 2022 CB300R will be offered in four colour options including Pearl Dusk Yellow and Matt Pearl Agile Blue (both new for 2022), Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic and Candy Chromosphere Red. Styling of the new CB300R is more in line with its bigger siblings CB650R and CB1000R.

      In terms of features, CB300R gets an LED headlamp with a dual-bar setup, a thin LED taillight, LED turn indicators and a fully digital instrument console with a negative LCD display. Unfortunately, it misses out on any form of connectivity option, which is a big miss.
      Hardware & Powertrain Specs
      When it comes to hardware, the Europe-spec model is identical to its India-spec counterpart. The naked sports cafe is underpinned by a minimalist tubular and pressed steel diamond-style frame which is suspended on USD front forks and a 7-Step adjustable mono-shock sourced from Showa. The swingarm is manufactured from a steel plate and features an irregularly shaped cross-section.

      This design offers high longitudinal rigidity, while also controlling torsion from wheel deflection. It also results in a very nimble kerb weight of 144kg. Braking duties are handled by a 296m disc brake clamped down by a Nissin 4-piston caliper and a 220mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear. The braking hardware is aided by a dual-channel ABS governed by IMU.
      Powering 2022 CB300R is powered by a slightly updated 286cc, DOHC, 4-valve, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. This motor now kicks out 31.1 bhp at 9,000rpm and instead of 30.4 bhp at 8,000rpm cranked out by its predecessor. Torque figure remains identical at 27.5 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox which now benefits from an assisted slipper clutch for smoother and quicker gear shifts. More

      New Yamaha Fazzio 125cc Scooter With Hybrid Tech Debuts

      Yamaha Fazzio has been equipped with the same 125cc motor and hybrid technology used in Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid and Ray ZR
      Yamaha Fascino Hybrid has a distant cousin launched in Indonesia. Called Fazzio Hybrid, the new 125cc scooter from Yamaha has been priced starting at IDR 21.7 million (Rs 1.12 lakh) and comes in six paint options. Fazzio has been made available in two trims namely Neo and Lux.

      The former is offered with four colour options while the latter comes in two shades. The biggest highlight of this scooter is its catchy retro design. Upfront, the scooter features a round headlamp and centre brace on the apron along with two turn indicators on each side.
      Side panels are squarish while the single-piece saddle is on the flatter side. At rear, Fazzio features vertically-oriented taillight and turn indicators and a chunky single-piece grab rail. Blacked-out portions of the floorboard, exhaust muffler, rearview mirrors and alloy wheels lend a nice dual-tone appearance to the scooter.

      Styling aside, Fazzio appears to be a very practical scooter with more than enough storage spaces to pack one’s knick-knacks. This includes a large and flat footboard with two large cargo hooks to place one’s luggage. It also gets a decent 17.8-litre under-seat storage compartment. To avail more storage, accessory hangers are available as add ons.

      The scooter is laced with many nifty features such as a fully digital instrument console enabled with Bluetooth connectivity and Yamaha’s Y-connect app. Other notable features on offer include a phone charging socket, a full LED headlight and a keyless lock/unlock system.
      Hardware, Powertrain Specs
      Coming to its dynamics, the scooter is suspended on conventional telescopic forks at front and a mono-shock at rear. Braking duties are handled by a hydraulic front disc brake and a mechanical rear drum brake. Fazzio rolls on 12-inch alloy wheels which are wrapped around by tubeless tyres. It gets a 5.1-litre fuel tank.
      Fazzio draws power from a 124.86cc single-cylinder engine which is equipped with Yamaha’s Blue Core Hybrid tech. This powertrain pushes out 8.3 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 10.6 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, with power being transmitted to the rear wheels via a CVT gearbox and belt drive. Like Fascino, the hybrid tech comprises a Smart Motor Generator that adds a burst of torque during initial acceleration.
      Fuel efficiency is improved thanks to an engine start/stop system which also reduces noise and emissions when at idle. Yamaha already has two 125cc scooters in India with more or less the same specifications. Chances of launching the new Fazzio in India are very less. More

      Royal Enfield Sales Breakup Dec 2021 – Bullet, Classic, 650 Twins, Himalayan

      Royal Enfield has been churning good sales volumes in the Indian market for a long time now. The company is one of the most sought after brands in the two-wheeler space of the country. The Chennai-based manufacturer concentrates on the mid-displacement segment of motorcycles between 300cc and 700cc.
      In December 2021, Royal Enfield was able to sell 65,194 bikes across India which was marginally less than the same month in the previous year when the company sold 65,492 units. This resulted in a YoY decline of 0.46 percent. In November 2021, the sales figure stood at 44,830 units which translated to an MoM growth of 45.42 percent.

      The sales chart was led by Classic 350 with a registered monthly volume of 34,723 units last month. With 39,321 units sold in December 2020 and 19,601 units sold in November 2021, YoY degrowth stood at 11.69 percent and MoM growth stood at 77.15 percent. Royal Enfield dispatched 10,977 units of Meteor 350 which recorded YoY and MoM growths of 28 percent and 62 percent respectively.
      The third spot was taken by Bullet 350 which registered a monthly volume of 8,061 units in December. The oldest motorcycle in continuous production witnessed a YoY decline of 23 percent and an MoM drop of 7.69 percent. Royal Enfield sold 4,611 units of Himalayan which resulted in a massive YoY growth of 390 percent. The MoM growth stood at 39.31 percent.

      The fifth spot was taken by Electra 350, which recorded a monthly volume of 4,521 units. The roadster witnessed a YoY decline of 7.32 percent and an MoM growth of 6.20 percent. Royal Enfield sold 2,301 units of its 650cc Twins – Interceptor and Continental GT. Cumulatively, the 650cc Twins registered YoY and MoM growths of 76.59 and 6.82 percent.

      When it came to exports, Royal Enfield was able to dispatch 8,552 motorcycles in December 2021. During the same month in 2020, the company could only export 3,503 units which have resulted in YoY growth of 144 percent. A similar MoM growth of 143 percent was recorded during the same period.
      Himalayan was the most exported model from Royal Enfield last month with 2,487 units of the adventure tourer shipped overseas. It registered a YoY growth of 106 percent and an MoM decline of 138.68 percent. Meteor 350 was the second most exported model by RE as 2,276 units of the cruiser were dispatched to foreign markets last month. YoY and MoM growths stood at 2,321 percent and 87 percent respectively.

      The bike maker dispatched 1,983 units of Classic 350 abroad last month which resulted in YoY growth of 733 percent and an MoM growth of 264 percent. 1,797 units of the 650cc Twins were exported to foreign markets in December which led to YoY growth of 50.63 percent and an MoM growth of 173 percent.       Top 10 Motorcycles Dec 2021 – Splendor, Pulsar, Classic 350, Apache, Unicorn

      The month of December 2021 was difficult for the two wheeler segment as every leading two wheeler manufacturer posted sales de-growth. The ongoing impact of 2nd wave of COVID-19 coupled with onset of Omicron virus related to lackluster sales through the past month. Hero MotoCorp posted a 12 percent YoY de-growth while Bajaj Auto sales were down 1 percent. TVS December sales dipped 17 percent while Royal Enfield sales remained flat on a YoY basis.
      Top 10 Motorcycles Dec 2021 – Splendor Maintains No 1
      We have a look at the top 10 motorcycles sold last month. Sales increased on a YoY basis in December 2021 to 6,16,628 units, up 1.17 percent over 6,09,514 units sold in December 2020. It was  Hero Splendor that once again scaled sales charts and was the only bike on this list to see sales above 1 lakh unit mark. Hero Splendor sales stood at 2,26,759 units, up from 1,94,930 units sold in December 2020. This was a 16.33 percent YoY growth with a share of 36.77 percent.
      At No. 2 was Hero HF Deluxe that gained one place since November 2021 putting Honda CB Shine at No.3. In December 2021 sales of HF Deluxe stood at 83,080 units, down 41.15 percent over 1,41,168 units sold in December 2020. In November 2021, sales of HF Deluxe had stood at 76,149 relating to a significant MoM growth.
      CB Shine sales increased 21.53 percent to 68,061 units in December 2021, up from 56,003 units sold in December 2020. CB Shine currently holds an 11.04 percent share in this segment. Earlier this week, sales of CB Shine hit the 1 crore unit milestone. Honda CB Shine was launched in India in 2006 and quickly gained the title of being the best selling motorcycle in the 125cc segment. Within a period of 54 months of launch in India, it crossed the 10 lakh sales mark and now sales have crossed 1 crore.

      Bajaj Pulsar and Platina, RE Classic 350 and Hero Glamour
      Following in quick succession were Bajaj Pulsar, RE Classic 350 and Hero Glamour. Bajaj Pulsar is one of the most popular nameplates in the motorcycle segment in India. Its range consists of different models with engine sizes ranging from 125cc to 250cc.
      At No. 4 on the top 10 list of motorcycle sales in the past month, Pulsar sales dipped 13.86 percent to 64,966 units, down from 75,421 units sold in December 2020. Platina sales however, noted a significant YoY increase by 45.74 percent to 44,800 units, up from 30,740 units sold in December 2020.
      RE Classic 350 sales dipped 11.69 percent YoY to 34,723 units, down from 39,321 units sold in December 2020. Classic 350 meets with a new rival with the new Yezdi motorcycles, which are significantly more powerful.

      At No. 7 on the list was Hero Glamour. Sales in December 2021 surged 64.23 percent to 31,595 units, up from 19,238 units sold in December 2020. TVS Apache, FZ and Honda Unicorn completed this list with Apache sales down 11.31 percent to 23,533 units from 26,535 units sold in December 2020. FZ and Unicorn sales increased 39.75 percent and 61.05 percent respectively to 19,790 units and 19,321 units in December 2021 from 14,161 units and 11,997 units sold respectively in December 2020.
