      2022 Yamaha MT15 Facelift to get Bluetooth / updatesUpon launch, the new Yamaha MT15 expected to command a higher price tag, over the current modelYamaha R15 and MT15 are based on the same chassis, powered by the same engine. Ever since the R15 got updated to V4 in India last year, talks have been doing rounds that Yamaha will give similar updates to the MT15. If sources are to be believed, the launch date of new 2022 MT15 is closer than expected.Yamaha will be launching a new and heavily updated MT15 in the coming days. Ahead of that, production of the old MT15 has likely come to an end at the company plant. For Jan 2022, Yamaha India only sold 17 units of the MT15. Production of new MT15 has reportedly commenced at the plant.Updates on 2022 Yamaha MT15 will include mechanical changes in line with the recently launched R15 V4, along with a few subtle styling upgrades. However, the exact nature and extent of these updates will only be known after the bike officially launches in India, most probably later this month or in March.2022 Yamaha MT15 StylingIn its current form, MT15 gets a transformer-style front look with air scoops, a sculpted fuel tank with extensions, a single-pod LED projector headlamp with twin LED DRLs at front, a wide handlebar and a petite tail section. The upcoming iteration of the street naked motorcycle could feature slight variations in terms of styling. Yamaha could also introduce new colour options on the upcoming version of MT-15.Yamaha MT15 Sales Last 6 Months – Sales declined by 99% in Jan 2022Further, the Japanese company will likely continue to offer a MotoGP Monster Energy Edition on the new MT15. This range-topping variant features cosmetic enhancements which are inspired by Yamaha’s MotoGP motorcycle along with Monster Energy branding which is the principal sponsor of Team Blue at the premiere championship.The special edition model wears a black paint scheme along with Monster Energy branding on the fuel tank and logo on tank extensions. Another addition to the motorcycle will be gold-anodised front forks which enhance the visual appeal of the bike.Hardware, Powertrain SpecsHardware configurations will likely see a massive update as conventional front forks in the current model could be replaced by more advanced upside-down forks. Rear suspension duties will be handled by a mono-shock. Anchorage will be taken care of by disc brakes at both ends. The single-channel ABS is expected to be upgraded to a dual-channel ABS.Yamaha is also likely to add a few features to the package including a quick-shifter, traction control and a revised fully digital LCD instrument console compatible with Yamaha’s Y-Connect connectivity feature and Bluetooth. The present model also features a side stand engine cut-off switch.Powering 2022 MT15 will be the same 155cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with VVA technology which is mated to a six-speed gearbox. In its present avatar, this motor delivers 18.2 bhp at 10,000rpm and a peak torque of 13.9 Nm at 8,500rpm.       Electric Scooter Sales Jan 2022 – Ather Vs Chetak Vs iQube

      New Bajaj ChetakClose fight between Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube continues in 2022 – the latter was ahead in 2021In 2021, TVS iQube had posted annual sales of 5,976 units. This was more than Chetak’s sales of 5,071 units. The battle continues in 2022 with iQube registering sales of 1,529 units in January. This is the highest ever monthly sales of iQube in the last 12 months. This is also the second consecutive month, wherein iQube sales are in four digits.In comparison, Chetak sales are at 1,268 units in January 2022. This is the highest monthly sales for the scooter in last 12 months. Rising sales is an indication that an increasing number of users are now coming forward to make the switch from petrol to electric. It also shows that situation on the supply side may have improved, as compared to a few months back.Electric Scooter Sales Jan 2022 – Ather vs Chetak vs iQubeAll three, Ather, Chetak and iQube have made impressive gains in terms of YoY and MoM growth. Ather YoY growth is at 366%, and leads the sales charts for Jan 2022 with 2,825 units sold. Chetak YoY growth is 4127%, as compared to 30 units sold in January last year.iQube has registered gains of 625%, as compared to 211 units sold in the corresponding period last year. Taken together, the combined YoY growth of Ather, Chetak and iQube is 563%. This is quite encouraging not only for Bajaj, Ather and TVS but also for the entire electric two-wheeler industry.Electric Scooter Sales Jan 2022MoM sales growth of Chetak is 74.18%, as compared to 728 units sold in December 2021. iQube MoM growth in January is 26.16%, as compared to 1,212 units sold in December 2021. Combined MoM growth rate of these sooters is 44.18%. In the last 12 months, average monthly sales work out at 526 units for Chetak and 608 units for iQube.iQube’s price advantageBoth Chetak and iQube are quite similar in terms of their key performance indicators. For example, range is 90 km for Chetak and 75 km for iQube. Top speed is around 80 kmph for Chetak and 78 kmph for iQube. Chetak offers IP67 water protection whereas iQube’s battery is packed in high strength aluminium extrusion casing to make it resistant to water and dust.Both scooters have non-removable batteries. There is not much difference in charging time as well. Battery warranty of 50,000 km or 3 years (whichever is earlier) is the same for both scooters.Chetak vs iQube sales last 12 monthsA significant advantage that iQube enjoys over Chetak is its affordable pricing. For example, iQube costs approximately Rs 1.01 lakh in Delhi (inclusive of FAME II subsidy). In comparison, Chetak price in Delhi is close to 1.48 lakh (ex-showroom). It is apparent that users with limited budgets are likely to choose iQube.Although Chetak and iQube sales have improved in recent months, they still have a long way to go. Other manufacturers such as Hero Electric, Okinawa, Ather and Ampere are comfortably ahead in this space.Competition is expected to intensify in future with the likes of Hero MotoCorp, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha planning to launch their respective electric two-wheelers. For starters, sales are dominated by Royal Enfield.  And then there’s Honda CB 350. For long even this minuscule sense of competition was unseen. But Royal Enfield has been smart about the segment despite there being no real competition on the face of it.And while Honda has only entered the 350cc marketspace here recently, Royal Enfield has continued to be vigilant. With the entire 350cc segment standing tall on RE’s shoulders, the auto manufacturer continues to fortify its segment presence through a reinvigorated and expanded 350cc product lineup.However, despite a steady introduction of new 350cc motorcycles, the segment is on the backfoot. Sales has contracted in recent months, and this is evident through continual low sales reports. In January 2022, segment size in the domestic market fell below 50k units. Sales are down to 48,452 units, down from 66,489 units YoY. Sales decline is reported at 27 percent. Volume loss stood at 18k units350cc Motorcycle Sales Jan 2022 – RE Classic LeadsClassic 350 sales fell to 26,775 units, down from about 41k units. Volume loss stood at 14k units with sales decline at over a third. Meteor 350 sales were reported at just below 8.5k units, up from about 5k units. Volume growth stood at 3,387 units at sales growth of just over two-third.350cc Motorcycle Sales Jan 2022 vs Jan 2021 (YoY)Royal Enfield Bullet 350 sales fell by a little over a third at 36.44 percent. Sales are down to 7,354 units, down from 11,570 units. Volume loss stood at 4,216 units. Honda CB 350 sales are reported at 3,212 units, down from 3,543 units. Volume loss stood at 331 units at 9.34 percent sales decline.Royal Enfield Electra 350 sales less than halved at 2,651 units. Sales fell from 5,431 units. Volume loss stood at 2,780 units following a volume decline of 51.19 percent. MoM sales decline is reported at just under 19 percent. Sales fell from just under 60k units.Classic 350 sales fell by 8k units, down from 34,723 units at 22.89 percent decline. Meteor 350 sales fell from about 11k units. Volume loss stood at 2.5k units at 23 percent decline. Bullet 350 sales declined to under 10 percent, down from about 8k units.  MoM CB 350 sales grew from 1,364 units at volume gain of 1,848 units. Electra 350 sales fell from 4.5k units at 41.36 percent sales decline.  350cc Motorcycle Sales Jan 2022 vs Dec 2021 (MoM)350cc segment motorcycle exports Jan 2022YoY Meteor 350 exports are up at 2,304 units, up from 184 units. Volume gain stood at just over 2.1k units. Classic 350 exports are at 2,042 units, up from 1.1k units. CB 350 exports stood at 1,440 units, up from 270 units. MoM growth for Meteor 350 and Classic 350 were more or less flat at 1.23 percent, and 3 percent.CB 350 MoM sales grew by just below 100 percent, up from 738 units. With competition in the 350cc segment being an in-house affair for Royal Enfield, it can be hoped that segment sales improves as the market bounces back.  More

      Bajaj PulsarIn January 2022, top 10 two wheeler cumulative sales fell by almost 20 percentTwo wheeler sales, especially units that make up the top order appear to have taken a beating according to SIAM data. Hero Splendor continues to lead from the top but that performance isn’t devoid of decline. Splendor sales fell to 2,08,263 units, down from 2,25,382 units. Yoy decline is reported at 7.6 percent with volume loss reported at 17,119 units.Top 10 Two Wheelers Jan 2022In the top order, Hero Splendor enjoyed 25.87 percent share of the total sales in the top 10. It’s larger than life sales performance is consistent, and in simple words, accounts for 25 percent of the 10 top selling two-wheeler sales (cumulative).As usual, Honda Activa takes the next spot. While Activa hasn’t lost its order in the top seller list, it sure did see high volume loss at 68,426 units. Sales are down to 1,43,234 units, down from 2,11,660 units. YoY decline stood at a little below a third. Market share in the top order is pegged at just below 18 percent.Honda CB Shine sales fell by a little less than 10 percent. Sales is down at 1,05,159 units, down from 1,16,222 units. Volume loss stood at about 11k units. Market share is pegged at 13 percent. Honda HF Deluxe sales decline is high at 36.29 percent. Volume loss stood at 49k units. Sales fell to 85,926 units, down from 1,34,860 units.Top 10 Best Selling Two Wheelers Jan 2022Bajaj Pulsar sales fell to 66,839 units. Down from 97,580 units. Volume loss stood at just below 31k units. While Pulsar saw 31.50 percent sales decline, Platina sales growth stood at over 71 percent. Sales is up at 46,492 units, up from 27,131 units.TVS sales declineTVS Jupiter sales fell by 16.32 percent. Volume fell from about 52k, down to 43,476 units at volume loss of 8,476 units. Volume loss stood at 16.32 percent. Suzuki Access sales decline is reported at 7.32 percent. Sales fell to 42,148 units, down from 45,475 units at volume loss of about 3.3k units.TVS XL 100 moped sales decline was the steepest in the list at just below 40 percent. Sales fell to lower than 36k units, down from 59k units. Volume loss stood at 23,222 units. Continuous sales decline for the moped means Jupites ascends as TVS’ topseller for now. Honda Dio sales decline is marginal at 3.72 percent. Volume loss stood at about a thousand units. Sales fell to 27,837 units, down from almost 29k units.Top 10 Two WheelersJan-22Jan-21%1. The electric automaker currently produces its low speed and high speed electric scooters from its Alwar plant in Rajasthan which has an annual capacity of 1.80 lakh units.In a bid to increase manufacturing capacities to 2 lakh units, the company has commenced operations at its 2nd plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. This new plant, inaugurated on 14th February 2022, will see the manufacture of close to 3 lakh electric vehicles per year which will be increased to 10 lakh units in the next 2-3 years.Once full production is achieved, it will be 5 times the capacity of its current plant in Alwar. This increase in production will not only allow the company to meet growing demand in India, but will also cater to global markets. Okinawa is the second largest manufacturer in its segment with a market share of over 20 percent in the electric two wheeler space.Mr. Jeetender Sharma, MD and Founder of Okinawa AutotechOkinawa Dealership Expansion PlansOkinawa sales in the past year have been particularly noteworthy. Sales has been dominated by iPraise+ and Praise Pro electric scooter, though the company portfolio also includes the Ridge Plus, R30, Lite and Dual, all of which are priced between Rs 59,000-1.09 lakh. The company crossed sales of 1,00,000 units milestone in India at the end of last year.Okinawa also has an expansive dealership network of over 400 centers situated in major metros and at Tier II and Tier III locations and across rural markets in the country. Plans are afoot to increase this dealership count to 500 by the end of this year. The company also opened two new Okinawa Galaxy stores in Dehradun and Jaipur.The Okinawa iPraise is currently among the highest selling electric scooters in the country. It has a range of 140 kms and top speed of 60 km/h. The company now plans a brand new electric scooter internally codenamed Oki90. This was shown off as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo and is now ready to roll off production lines.Upcoming Okinawa Oki90 Electric ScooterViewed in test runs, the Oki90 e-scooter was under complete camouflage though some features came to the fore. It will receive LED headlamp and turn indicators positioned on its front apron, a raised pillion seat and large alloy wheels with disc brakes at the front and rear.The new e-scooter from Okinawa could also receive a full digital console with Bluetooth connectivity and a switch to toggle between Eco and Power modes. It will be powered via a removable lithium-ion battery pack and will be capable of a riding range from 150-180 km per charge. Launch in the next couple of months is on the cards. More

Unlike India, where Yamaha offers a solitary variant of Aerox, the Maxi-sports scooter is offered in two variants in Indonesia- Connected and ABS. For 2022, Aerox 155 has received six new colour options- four for the Connected variant and two for the ABS trim.2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 – New ColoursThe four new paint schemes on offer in the Connected variant include Matte Black Cyan, Dark Grey Yellow, Black with Red highlights, and Red with contrasting Black bodywork.       2022 Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650cc / Shotgun / Cruiser – Golden ForksRoyal Enfield could be launching three new motorcycles under the 650cc motorcycle lineup – Starting with Super Meteor 650Thanks to multiple test mules spied in India and abroad, it has already been established that Royal Enfield is planning to expand its 650cc lineup. This RE segment of motorcycles currently houses two models- Interceptor and Continental GT.We also know that there are going to be multiple versions of the upcoming 650cc motorcycle from the Chennai-based manufacturer. The question arises, how many more iterations of the 650cc platform will we see in the future. It is likely that there are going to be three iterations of the 650cc models.These will be Cruiser 650, Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650. All three bikes will offer a low-slung cruiser-like stance with a long wheelbase and classic retro styling but the motorcycles will differ in their riding stance and characteristics. Let us look how this trio could be differentiated among themselves.2022 Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 TourerSuper Meteor will be very closely linked to Cruiser 650 as it borrows part of its name from the brand’s current 350cc cruiser- Meteor. In fact, after reports of ‘Super Meteor’ name being trademarked by Royal Enfield surfaced on the internet, it was speculated that Super Meteor 650 and Cruiser 650 could actually be the same motorcycle. However, we could spot noticeable differences in latest spy shots.2022 Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650cc / Shotgun / Cruiser – Silver ForksThe most prominent difference is the riding posture which features a slightly lower-set handlebar which leads to a slightly committed posture with centre-set footpegs. The rider triangle will be different in this case with the less angular distance between the steering and front suspension. Hence, the wheelbase is also expected to be slightly shorter.New spy shots of the RE Super Meteor 650 were clicked somewhere in the UK. These show the motorcycle in production ready stance. There are three different test mules, which can be differentiated by the front forks. One is wearing silver forks, the other has golden while the third one has black. All three RE 650cc test mules are fully loaded with touring accessories.Expected engine, hardware specsHowever, other than the ergonomic variations all three motorcycles will be the same underneath the skin. This includes the same 648cc parallel-twin motor which pumps out 47 bhp at 7150rpm and 52 Nm at 5250rpm in the current 650 Twins. However, in the upcoming bikes, the power figures or power delivery could be altered to suit their nature. It is mated to a constant-mesh 6-speed gearbox.2022 Royal Enfield Cruiser 650 – USD ForksCycle parts of all three upcoming bikes will be identical to each other. Suspension setup will consist of a pair of upside-down forks or standard forks at front and twin shock absorbers at rear. Braking duties include single disc brakes at both ends with ByBre callipers aided by a dual-channel ABS as standard. All three bikes should feature the Tripper NAvigation pod for turn-by-turn navigation.Cruiser 650This will be a proper cruiser motorcycle in a similar line with cruisers from Harley Davison and Indian Motorcycles. It will have the longest wheelbase among the three bikes with a greater angle between steering and front suspension. This will also affect the rider’s triangle which will offer very relaxed riding ergonomics with a pulled-back handlebar, forward-set footpegs and a low seat.Shotgun 650As mentioned earlier, Shotgun 650 is likely to be based on the SG650 Concept which is a single-seater bobber. Like Meteor 350, it is expected to offer a low-set handlebar with a slightly committed ride posture. However, the most striking difference will be the sole rider’s seat. Other small differences could be shorter front and rear fenders and bar-end mirrors.Source More
