New Yamaha Electric Scooters Showcased To Dealers In India

E01 And NEO’s electric scooters had made their global debut earlier this year in March; India launch likely next yearYamaha Electric Scooters Showcased To Dealers In India. Image – Nikam YamahaAs compared to startups like Ather, Ola, Okinawa, Ampere, Revolt, etc., mainstream two-wheeler manufacturers like Yamaha are yet to target the EV space on a large scale. There are limitations for such OEMs, as they have to maintain focus on their primary petrol powered two-wheelers. Good thing is Yamaha has now taken its first steps in the EV journey by showcasing E01 And NEO’s electric scoters at dealers’ meet. Hat tip to Nikam Yamaha and Torque TV for sharing the images.Yamaha Electric Scooters For India – E01E01 is more likely to make it here, as it’s comparable to a 125cc petrol scooter. Yamaha already has a strong presence in this space with popular scooters like Fascino and RayZR. Similar USPs can be created for E01. Moreover, Yamaha has already filed the trademark for E01.As may be recalled, E01 electric scooter concept was showcased at 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The maxi-styled scooter has a sporty profile with prominent front fascia, dual headlights, compact windscreen and wide, comfortable single piece seat. The scooter is expected to be offered in both single and dual-tone colour options.Other key features of E01 include fully digital instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity and keyless ignition. It will have three ride modes of Eco, Normal and Power. Max range with a single battery pack is expected to be around 70-80 km on a full charge.Yamaha Electric Scooters For India. Image – Nikam YamahaIn European markets, E01 is likely to be equipped with a 11kW (15 bhp) motor. This is as per the regulatory requirements mandated for light electric scooters. In Europe, E01 will debut as part of a ride sharing fleet.Yamaha Neo’s electric scooterBased on E02 concept showcased at 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, Neo’s electric scooter recently debuted in Europe at a starting price of EUR 3,005 (approx. Rs 2.52 lakh). It will go on sale later this year in May.Yamaha Neo’s electric scooter is equipped with a 50.4V, 19.2Ah Lithium-ion battery pack that weighs 8kg. It supplies power to a brushless DC hub motor, rated to deliver 2.5 kW (3.4PS) of power and 136 Nm of torque in Standard mode. The powertrain is comparable to a 50cc scooter. It is to note that Neo’s is already available as a 50cc petrol powered scooter in select markets.Yamaha Electric Scooters For IndiaIn Eco mode, power output is restricted to 1.58kW. With a single battery, range is around 38.5 km. This can be extended to 68 km using a dual battery setup. Charging time is around eight hours when a standard AC charger is used.It is not certain if Neo’s electric scooter will be launched in India. Charging and battery swapping infrastructure are still underdeveloped in the country. This significantly limits the acceptability for an electric scooter with low range. Market trends indicate that there’s growing preference for electric scooters with around 100+ km range. More

Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 Might Discontinue – When Himalayan 450 Is Launched

Royal Enfield is developing a more powerful adventure bike that will be based on a brand new platform and will be powered by a new engineCurrent Royal Enfield Himalayan 411Without an iota of doubt, Royal Enfield Himalayan is the most popular adventure bike in India today. However, the motorcycle has its fair share of drawbacks as well. For instance, while its off-road dynamics are excellent, it doesn’t have the necessary grunt for sharp overtakes and a spirited performance on tarmac. In regards to this, the Chennai-based bikemaker is developing a more powerful version of Himalayan which will be more responsive to throttle inputs. Recently, a test mule of the same was spied for the first time. Another testing prototype of the more potent Himalayan was spotted yet again.Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 New EngineRoyal Enfield Himalayan 450 will be a completely new motorcycle developed from scratch and might even receive a new brand name. Getting into details, it will be powered by an all-new 450cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that will dish out around 40 bhp of peak power. This unit is expected to be paired with a 5-speed gearbox.Like other contemporary ADVs, the new Himalayan 450 will focus on delivering better performance in low and mid-range. Moreover, this powertrain is expected to be lighter than the existing Himalayan which should also aid in better fuel efficiency figures as well. The current Himalayan is powered by a 411cc single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine which puts out a humble 24.3 bhp and 32 Nm of peak torque.Royal Enfield Himalayan 450cc. Image – PowerDriftNew Platform- Revamped Design & HardwareWith this new powertrain on offer, the upcoming ADV will be a more worthy rival to premium adventure tourers like KTM 390 Adventure and BMW G 310 GS. Internally codenamed K1, this ADV will be developed in a brand new platform and it goes without saying that the new Himalayan 450 will come with a revamped design. The new adventure bike will be underpinned by a trellis frame as confirmed by the latest spy images and is most likely to be lighter than the existing platform. It will be suspended on upside-down forks up front and a mono-shock at rear. Brakes are expected to be larger single disc units at both ends likely to be aided by a switchable ABS expected to be carried forward from Himalayan. It also seems to carry forward the same 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoked wheel setup from Himalayan. They are likely to be wrapped around by tubeless rubber with block pattern dual-purpose tyres. Other highlights include a large windscreen, a signature beak-like fender, an upswept exhaust canister and a large luggage rack at rear.Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Sketch by BikewaleExpected LaunchAs far as features go, it could be laced with gizmos like traction control, ride by wire, and 3 ride modes (road, rain and off road). It is also seen with a unique circular instrument console which is positioned almost parallel to the round headlamp. While there are no official details regarding its launch, we expect it to make its debut sometime next year. Once the Himalayan 450 is launched, the existing Himalayan 411 is likely to be discontinued.Royal Enfield is also working on Himalayan 450 Dakar edition, which will be the top-spec version of the Himalayan 450. It is currently codenamed as K1X. It will get a more powerful engine, upgraded suspension, tubeless spoke wheels, auxiliary fuel tank. Instrumentation on Click 160 is fully digital that should provide a wide range of information.Specs & PricesPowering Click is a new 156.9cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine linked to a traditional CVT gearbox. This powertrain returns an output of 15 bhp and a peak torque of 13.8 Nm. Underpinnings on the new Click 160 are basic consisting of conventional telescopic forks up front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at rear. Braking duties are handled by single disc brakes at both ends aided by optional ABS.Honda Click 160 has been priced at THB 63,500 in Thailand which roughly translates to INR 1.44 lakh. This scooter is unlikely to reach Indian shores anytime soon, however, the Japanese brand may introduce the PCX scooter in the country.
