In recent times, a large number of new-age manufacturers have entered the space. In fact, electric two-wheeler manufacturers have now far exceeded the number of traditional two-wheeler brands operating here. Volumes too are growing, especially when FY22 is considered.Svitch MotoCorp Pvt. Ltd. is ready to launch their new electric motorcycle called CSR 762. The company says CSR 762 is for ‘young biking enthusiasts’. And is set to be launched by July-August 2022. The soft launch of the bike was held in November 2021.Svitch CSR 762 features a 3kW Motor that peaks at 10kW at 1300 RPM. A PMSM motor with a central drive system is being used. Battery capacity ranges upto 3.7kWh Li-ion, nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC). It goes without saying, the e-bike is aligned to be pollution free.Svitch Electric Motorcycle – certification and testingSvitch CSR 762 design language draws inspiration from Gujarat’s Asiatic Lions. The bike embodies the ‘spirit of pride, power and personality very sportingly’. CSR 762 is at certification stages. Internal testing has concluded. The brand says it has a stronghold over tier-1 cities. And now aims to make its presence felt in the city commute segment. CSR 762 target audience is the ‘middle-class automobile demographic’.Svitch Electric Motorcycle CSR 762 Top speed is pegged at 110KM/h. On a single charge, the e-bike goes 120 kms depending upon riding mode. Wheelbase stands at 1430 mm. Curb weight and weight capacity are stated at 155 kg, and 200 kg respectively.The rake is 24 degrees, and trail is 136mm. Seat height is 780 mm. 6 ride modes include 3 driving modes, 1 parking mode, 1 reverse mode, and 1 sports mode. Company growth plans include setting up battery swapping stations as per government policies.Svitch CSR 762 priceSvitch CSR 762 electric motorbike is expected to be available at a launch price estimated at around Rs 1.65 lakhs (tentative). Post subsidy, the electric motorcycle will cost about Rs 1.25 lakhs (tentative) basis upto subsidies worth 40k (tentative) offered as per GoI policy. Currently, the company is seeking channel partners to amplify the reach of its CSR 762 project.     Hero Vida Electric Scooter To Be Exported – Europe, South America

    EV exports will play a crucial role in helping Hero MotoCorp achieve its ambitious global sales targetImage for referenceWhile the likes of Bajaj and TVS currently dominate export markets, Hero MotoCorp is stepping up focus in this space. The company already has a presence across Latin America, Africa and Asian countries like Nepal and Bangladesh. Hero MotorCorp EVs can be introduced at these locations and newer geographics like Europe as well.EVs to boost overseas businessAccording to Hero MotoCorp, its upcoming EVs will power the next phase of growth in overseas markets. Mature markets like Europe will be among the ones that will be targeted. There’s greater awareness about climate change at these locations and growing preference for EVs. Setting up charging and battery swapping infrastructure will also be more convenient in European countries.By 2025, Hero MotoCorp has plans to generate 15% of its overall sales from overseas markets. The strategy seems similar to Bajaj and TVS, which have been able to establish themselves as global two-wheeler brands.Export numbers of FY22 have been encouraging for Hero, as growth has zoomed to 57%. As compared to sales of 191,609 units in global markets in FY21, the numbers were at 300,624 units in FY22. This is the highest ever overseas sales numbers for the company.Hero MotoCorp First electric scooter under brand VIDAOne of the effective strategies Hero has deployed in overseas markets is to launch products that specifically suit local needs and preferences. For example, there’s Hunter 100 for Nigeria and Hunk 150 for the Middle East. Similarly, Hunk 200 has emerged as a popular choice in Latin American countries. There are also bikes such as Xpulse 200 and Xtreme 160R that have emerged as bestsellers across multiple geographies.Battery swapping infra pushHero MotoCorp will be launching its EVs under Vida brand. First Vida EV, which will be an electric scooter, is planned to be unveiled on July 1, 2022. The event marks the birth anniversary of the late Brijmohan Lall Munjal, the original founder of Hero MotoCorp. Vida electric scooter will be manufactured at the company’s production unit in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. Deliveries are expected to commence later in the year.Aiming to offer something truly unique, Hero MotoCorp will be replicating the Taiwan model in India. EVs with swappable batteries are the most preferred in Taiwan and much of the business is owned and operated by Gogoro. Hero has forged an alliance with Gogoro to develop similar battery swapping infrastructure in India. This collaboration is likely to be utilized for global markets as well.Gogoro has also played a role in the development of the Vida electric scooter. Much of the work has been carried out at Hero’s in-house R&D centres. Inputs have been sourced from Ather Energy as well. Hero MotoCorp has consistently increased its shareholding in Ather and currently holds 34.8% stake. However, there doesn’t seem to be any plans for a merger. There are no specific details attached to this development but the upcoming Pulsar Eleganz and Pulsar Elan are likely to follow the same philosophy as the original Pulsars.Original Pulsars have always been known for their low-end grunt that feature Bajaj’s stronghold technologies, DTSi and ExhausTEC. These motorcycles came with a unique engine characteristic and a sweet exhaust note. The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media. As per Sun News, the said owner of Ola electric scooter, Dr. Prithviraj was unhappy with the performance as well as range.Dr. Prithviraj got delivery about 3 months ago, and has been facing issues from the start. He had complained to Ola Electric about the same multiple times. Ola support did take a look at the scooter, and found no issues. He claims that the range is erratic. Today, his scooter stopped working after 44 kms. Angry with this, he set his scooter on fire by pouring petrol over it. The incident took place near Ambur bypass road, Tamil Nadu[embedded content][embedded content]Ola Electric Scooter RecallFollowing spate of incidents involving electric scooters of different manufacturers, which have caused death and injuries, Ola Electric have announced that they will recall 1,441 units of its S1 Pro electric scooters. These affected electric scooters will be in for proper check-up and fixing of any issue which surface.It all started when one of the Ola electric scooters caught fire, while it was parked in Pune last month. According to Ola Electric, preliminary investigation revealed that it was an isolated incident and not an inherent issue with the battery or other parts fitted to its scooters. However, the company added that investigation, focusing on the battery and heat management system, was ongoing to find how the scooter self-combusted.Experts to Examine ScootersOla Electric said that the recalled units are of the same batch as the above-mentioned scooter which caught fire and all of them will undergo a detailed diagnostics and health check. The company says it has hired services of experts in this field to find the reason behind the fire adding that once investigations are complete, the findings will be made public. Videos and pictures of Ola S1 Pro catching fire went viral on social media. This caused panic among owners. Embarrassing the company, which invested Rs 2,400 crore to set up a scooter manufacturing factory in Tamil Nadu in 2020.However, it is not only Ola Electric which has been hit by issues with electric scooters. Okinawa has recalled 3,215 units of its Praise Pro electric scooters to fix battery-related issues. Last week in Hyderabad, the battery of a Pure EV electric scooter exploded while it was being charged, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to two others. This led to Pure EV recalling 2,000 units of Etrance+ and EPluto 7G electric scooters to check their batteries and chargers. Following these incidents, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari warned electric vehicle manufacturers that if they don’t recall their vehicles and thoroughly check them, the companies will have to face the full force of law.Ola Electric Scooter Production To Increase FurtherCurrently, Ola is the No 2 electric scooter brand in India. First being Hero Electric. As per FADA date, in March 2022 alone, Ola delivered more than 9k electric scooters. Speaking to the media recently, Ola said that they are currently manufacturing about 800 electric scooters per day. Total production has already crossed the 50k mark.Production will be increasing to 2,000 scooters per day in a few months. Current production capacity is at 15 lakh units per year. The adventure tourer made its global debut in September last year and replaces the outgoing Multistrada 950.However, Multistrada was only offered in fully-loaded S trim in India priced at Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom), thus making the new Multistrada V2 more accessible. The adventure bike comes with a series of upgrades and improvements over its predecessor.Ducati Multistrada V2 ErgonomicsThe new Multi V2 doesn’t stray away from the older Multi 950 as far as looks are concerned. It gets new body graphics and colour options with the updated palette comprising “Ducati Red” colour with black rims as standard for both trims. Total sales in March 2022 stood at 67,697 units, down 10.57 percent over 75,698 units sold in March 2021. MoM sales however increased 13.95 percent from 59,411 units sold in February 2022.Motorcycle Sales 200cc To 500cc – Mar 2022Once again it was Royal Enfield in the lead with 5 of its 350cc models in the top 5 positions. Classic 350 was the highest selling model in this list with 32,694 units sold last month, up 3.15 percent over 31,696 units sold in March 2021. It commands a 48.29 percent market share down from 50.63 percent held in February 2022 when sales stood at 30,082 units, relating to an 8.68 percent MoM increase. None of the other bikes on this list were able to see sales above the 10,000 unit mark.At No. 2 was the Bullet 350 with 8,283 units sold in March 2022. This was a YoY de-growth of 14.55 percent over 9,693 units sold in March 2021 with market share of 12.24 percent. MoM sales improved 28.78 percent from 6,432 units sold in February 2022 when market share stood at 10.83 percent.Royal Enfield Meteor sales dipped YoY and MoM to 6,589 units last month. Sales stood at 19,596 units in March 2021 and at 6,749 units in February 2022. Meteor 350 recently received some colour updates even as its features and engine specifications remained unchanged.Motorcycle sales 200cc to 500cc – March 2022 vs March 2021 (YoY)Increased demand has been noted for the RE Himalayan. Sales in the past month stood at 5,225 units, up 80.30 percent over 2,898 units sold in March 2021. MoM sales also increased by 75.51 percent from 2,977 units sold in February 2022. Royal Enfield is currently developing a more powerful version of the Himalayan. It will deliver better performance as compared to its current version.RE Electra sales dipped 9.24 percent last month to 4,460 units, down from 4,914 units sold in March 2021. MoM sales improved 30.18 percent from 3,426 units sold in February 2022. Breaking the Royal Enfield stronghold was the Honda H’ness CB 350. Sales stood at 3,406 units in the past month, down 20.83 percent over 4,302 units sold in March 2021. MoM sales increased 9.91 percent from 3,099 units sold in February 2022.Pulsar, KTM, DominarAt No. 7 was the Bajaj Pulsar 220/250cc. Sales suffered a 51.06 percent YoY de-growth down to 2,531 units last month from 5,172 units sold in March 2021. It was however a 2.26 percent increase in MoM sales as against 2,475 units sold in February 2022.Motorcycle sales 200cc to 500cc – March 2022 vs Feb 2022 (MoM)Following in quick succession were the KTM 250 (Duke + ADV) with 1,539 units sold, up 23.22 percent over 1,249 units sold in March 2021. The KTM 250 also saw MoM growth of 8 percent from 1,425 units sold in February 2022. Dominar 250 (694 units) and FZ25 (500 units) noted increased MoM sales by 45.80 percent and 103.25 percent respectively.In March 2022, Apache 310 sales stood at 475 units while there were 410 units of Dominar 400 sold along with 354 units of CB300R. Suzuki Gixxer 250 sales stood at 203 units last month. Husqvarna 250 (120 units), Ninja 300 (103 units) and Avenger 220 (98 units) along with 12 units of CB 500 and 1 unit of KTM 390 (RC + Duke + ADV) completed the list. More

Ather Energy is looking to add two new battery-powered scooters to its lineup. Both these scooters will be built on the existing 450 e-scooter platform.Upcoming Ather 450 E-scooters450X is currently the higher sales volume generator, thanks to a piece of richer equipment and extra range on offer per full charge. A new version of the electric scooter is currently under development which will offer a higher range than 450X.The aforementioned goal may be achieved with a larger battery pack. This may lead to the scooter gaining a wider stance, as well as a larger bodywork to account for a larger power source. Top speed and performance are unlikely to witness any massive changes. Price of this scooter will be evidently more than 450X.Ather Electric ScooterComing to the second addition to the Ather lineup, this version of the electric scooter will receive cosmetic enhancements in form of new colour options, however, current design will be retained. In all probability, this scooter will be a sportier-looking derivative of 450X.Details about these two e-scooters are still thin. These new variants of Ather 450 are expected to make their debuts towards the end of this year or early next year. With rising competition in the electric two-wheeler space, Ather clearly wants to strengthen its portfolio of electric scooters.Ather 450X, 450 Plus updatesAther recently launched a new update for its electric scooters- 450X and 450 Plus. As per this new update, owners of both these e-scooters will benefit from an additional ride mode called SmartEco mode. The new ride mode has been designed to dynamically adjust range and performance. Latest SmartEco ride mode will only be available to users who have Ather Connect Pro subscription plans.450X is powered by a 6kW (8.04 bhp) electric motor that draws its energy from a Lithium-ion battery pack. It accelerates from 0-40kmph in 3.3 seconds and promises a real world range of up to 85km on a single charge.
