    New Honda Scooters Patented In India – Design Sketches Leak

    Design patents for 125cc NS125LA and 150cc Winner X are most likely aimed at protecting Honda’s intellectual property in Indian marketHonda Winner 150ccHonda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) recently got the design patents for NS125LA and Winner X scooters in India. These scooters are available for sale in international markets and are positioned as commuter bikes.While 125cc NS125LA scooter is exclusively meant for Chinese market, the 150cc Winner X underbone scooter is sold in Asian markets such as Malaysia and Indonesia. Winner X is sold as Supra GTR in Indonesia, whereas in Malaysia, it is named RS150R/RS-X.Honda NS125LA, Winner XHonda NS125LA has a classic, retro design with round headlamp and smooth, curvy body panelling. Its attractive, laidback design, coupled with a range of utilitarian features, makes it suitable for all age groups. The scooter is powered by a 124.9cc air-cooled motor that generates 8.97 hp of max power and 9.87 Nm of peak torque. This is a different engine, as compared to the one used with Activa 125.Honda Winner X blends in the best of both worlds, the speed and agility of a motorcycle and comfort and practicality associated with a scooter. Winner X was launched in 2016 and has received multiple updates over the years. It is powered by a 150cc motor that generates 15.6 hp and 13.5 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Some key features of Honda Winner X include full digital display, keyless operation, all-LED lighting and USB charging port.Honda NS125LA patented in IndiaIndia launch plans?It does not appear that Honda is planning to launch NS125LA and Winner X in Indian market. Design patents may just be a proactive move on part of the company to secure its intellectual property in the country. NS125LA, in particular, has a fairly unique and attractive design. There could be a possibility that its design or part of it may be copied.Honda Winner X patented in IndiaWhile established OEMs may not be a suspect, there could be a threat of design infringement from emerging players in Indian two-wheeler segment. It especially concerns the EV segment, where new electric scooters are being launched at regular intervals. Honda itself may have plans to use the design of NS125LA for one of its products in future. There could be several other possibilities, which is where the design patents come into play.In its current form, the NS125LA scooter does not even meet the BS6 emission standards. It works in China, as emission norms there are relatively less strict. In case of 150cc Winner X, the scooter does not suit Indian consumer preferences. There’s hardly any demand for geared underbone scooters in the country. All these factors indicate that Honda NS125LA and Winner X are unlikely to be launched in India.Honda Winner X patented in IndiaHonda has different plans for India, one of which is an entry-level 100cc commuter bike. It will primarily rival Hero Splendor and HF Deluxe. Honda is also working to launch its first electric two-wheeler in India. Called Burgman Street EX, key highlights include improved stability, higher fuel efficiency and new tech features. This makes it Rs 23k more expensive than the existing standard variant of Burgman, and Rs 19k more expensive than the Ride Connect edition. The EX-variant is positioned as the top-spec variant. Suzuki recently teased it on its social media handles revealing key updates that will come with this update. It is likely to be launched as the top-spec trim, while the outgoing scooter will be sold as a base-spec trim.For starters, Suzuki Burgman Street 125EX is still the same scooter as the outgoing model. Design and powertrain are kept identical. Suzuki is offering some key upgrades that are likely to offer more value to customers. A 12” rear alloy wheel as opposed to a 10” alloy wheel on the outgoing model. This way, Suzuki is adding more comfort and stability. Other features include a silent starter/generator like we have seen on Activa 6G and an auto start/stop system as we have seen with Yamaha’s 125cc scooters. All the features on the Ride Connect variant will be carried over to this new update.Powertrain ChangesSuzuki is now offering SEP-Alpha tech on Burgman Street 125 EX unlike the SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance) offered on the outgoing model. This is likely to be a tweaked version of SEP that is tuned towards more efficiency. Suzuki claims 56 km/l of fuel efficiency from this new EX variant of Burgman Street.2023 Suzuki Burgman Street 125 EXWith time, this SEP-Alpha is likely to also make it on Access 125 and Avenis 125. One can expect a slight price hike over the outgoing model owing to all the new features on an already feature-rich maxi-styled scooter. It is powered by a 124cc SOHC engine with 8.5 bhp and 10 Nm. Main feature highlights are LED headlights, Bluetooth connectivity and more.Launch timeline is not yet revealed, but it is likely to be sooner than one thinks.     Ather Electric Scooter Sales Nov 2022 – New Offers, Discounts

    As demand is expected to increase in the future, Ather has launched its second manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil NaduAther Electric ScooterAther has registered strong growth in November 2022, with YoY gain of 260.08%. A total of 7,234 units were sold in the month, as compared to 2,009 units in November last year.While YoY growth is commendable, MoM growth is down by -11.92%. Ather sales in October 2022 were higher at 8,213 units. This was something that was expected, as auto sales tend to taper off after the festive season. Ather has maintained its market share in November and expects sales to bounce back from January 2023 onwards.Production capacity expandedAther recently launched its second manufacturing facility in Hosur, taking overall production capacity to 420,000 units per year. As of now, the company is producing 600 scooters per day. It will soon be increased to around 1,500 units per day. Ather’s second manufacturing unit is twice as large in area, as compared to the first factory. It has 2 vehicle and 3 battery lines.While production has been boosted, Ather has ensured that there are no compromises on quality. It is among the EV brands that have had relatively fewer issues related to battery fire, low range, build quality, etc. Ather’s deep focus on quality continues, as more than 200 parameters are evaluated for every scooter that passes through the assembly line.Ather Electric Scooter Sales Nov 2022With increased automation, Ather has been able to reduce assembly time by 20%. Automation also helps reduce faults and defects linked to human error. A higher level of consistency and accuracy can be achieved with increased automation.     Two Wheeler Sales Nov 2022 – Hero, Honda, TVS, Bajaj, RE, Suzuki

    Despite Hero MotoCorp leading the Two Wheeler Sales Nov 2022, it witnessed a decline MoM just like every other major manufacturerRoyal Enfield Meteor 350India is one of the largest motorcycle markets in the world. For a long time, India’s resident brand Hero MotoCorp has led the sales. Two Wheeler Sales Nov 2022 follow the same path and with 3,79,839 units sold in domestic market, Hero registered 15.50% YoY growth with a 32.26% market share of this list. Volume gained was 50,977 units.Hero lost 62,986 units in volume MoM at a rate of 14.22%. Honda saw 3,53,540 units sold with its name, up from 2,56,174 units sold a year ago. YoY growth was 38.01% and MoM decline was 17%. TVS took 3rd place with 1,91,730 units. The brand saw 8.97% YoY growth and a 30.52% MoM decline.Two Wheeler Sales Nov 2022Royal Enfield and Suzuki sold 65,750 and 63,156 units respectively and both of them registered YoY growth of 46.46% and 13.46% respectively and sales dropped MoM. In total, These 6 major 2W manufacturers’ sales accounted for 11,77,515 units last month in domestic market. Figures grew by 17% YoY and fell by 21.34% MoM with a volume loss of 3,19,506 units MoM.In Exports, Bajaj leads the charts with 1,38,630 units shipped last month. When compared to 1,93,520 units shipped last year and 1,35,772 units shipped a month before, Bajaj registered a 28.36% YoY decline and 2.10% MoM growth. TVS showed similar patterns as Bajaj by registering 12.22% YoY decline and 4.68% MoM growth.2W sales November 2022 – DomesticTVS shipped 71,912 units last month, which is almost half of Bajaj’s numbers in exports. Honda shipped 19,681 units in November 2022 and fell into the red completely by registering an 18.71% YoY and 15.97% MoM decline. Suzuki saw a 63.58% YoY growth with 16,203 units shipped with its name. MoM decline of 11.09% was not very inspiring, though.Taking 5th and 6th spots, we have Hero MotoCorp and Royal Enfield with 11,093 and 5,006 units shipped respectively. Just like Honda, both Hero and Enfield fell into the red by registering 45.97% and 26.64% YoY decline and 5.65% and 12.28% MoM decline respectively. Total exports by these 6 2W makers accounted for 2,62,525 units and saw a 22.08% YoY and a 0.40% MoM decline.Total Sales Two Wheelers Nov 2022When total sales are concerned, Hero tops the charts again with 3,90,932 vehicles in its name and registered 11.89% YoY growth and gained 41,539 units in volume YoY. Because it sold 4,54,582 units in October 2022, Hero lost 63,650 units in volume at a rate of 14% MoM. Honda inches closer to Hero’s numbers with 3,73,221 units and saw 33.11% YoY growth and a 16.95% MoM decline.2W sales November 2022 – ExportsTVS and Bajaj’s numbers are very close to each other. TVS and Bajaj sold 2,63,642 and 2,62,120 units last month respectively. While TVS saw 2.24% YoY growth and a 23.50% MoM decline, Bajaj’s numbers declined in both YoY and MoM analysis. Bajaj lost 76,353 units YoY in volume which is the highest in this list.Suzuki and Enfield’s sales fall close to each other as well with 79,359 and 70,766 units sold respectively. Both Suzuki and Enfield registered YoY growth and MoM decline each. In total, the 6 highest-sellers in the 2W segment accounted for a total sales (domestic+exports) of 14,40,040 units in November 2022.2W sales November 2022 – TotalWhen compared to 13,43,355 units sold in November 2021 and 17,60,600 units sold in October 2022, 2W sales in November 2022 for these 6 manufacturers grew by 7.20% YoY and declined by 18.21% MoM.     Royal Enfield Sales Nov 2022 – Classic, Bullet, Meteor, Hunter

    Royal Enfield sales have declined across the board in MoM analysis – including 350cc to 650cc, domestic and exportsRoyal Enfield 350cc Custom By EimorIf there is one two wheeler brand in India that has a monopoly in retro classic motorcycles, it is Royal Enfield. Manufacturers like Honda, Jawa and Yezdi have tried their hand at this segment and results haven’t been as fruitful.The brand’s 350cc portfolio includes bikes like Classic 350, Hunter 350, Meteor 350 and Bullet 350. These motorcycles drive sales unlike any other segment for Royal Enfield. This segment sold 65,956 motorcycles last month. In YoY analysis this segment performed very well as it grew 52.16% YoY as opposed to 43,346 units that it sold last year.Royal Enfield Sales Nov 2022Volume gain YoY for 350cc segment is 22,610 motorcycles and this segment commands 80.20% of Royal Enfield’s total manufacturing capacity. This used to be 91.15% in October 2022, just a month before. The 350cc segment had sold 74,828 motorcycles that month. MoM sales dropped by 11.86% with 8,872 motorcycles lost in volume.Royal Enfield 350cc YTD sales stood at 4,79,366 motorcycles, which grew by 65.90% YoY, as opposed to 2,88,956 motorcycles sold a year ago. Volume gained was 1,90,410 motorcycles YoY. Royal Enfield has its fair share of above 350cc bikes including Himalayan, Scram 411, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.Royal Enfield Sales Nov 2022This segment sold 4,810 units last month and sales dropped by 42.10% YoY and 35.06% MoM. Volume loss stood at 3,498 units YoY and 2,597 units MoM. YTD sales for this segment stood at 68,604 units as opposed to 53,898 units sold a year ago in the same period and gained 27.28% YoY. Royal Enfield is bringing new products like Himalayan 450, Scram 450, Super Meteor 650 to this segment to boost sales.In domestic market, Royal Enfield sold 65,760 units last month. When compared to 44,830 units sold a year ago and 76,528 units sold a month before, the domestic market registered 46.69% YoY growth and 14.07% MoM decline in sales. Volume gained YoY is 20,930 units and volume lost MoM is 10,768 units.Royal Enfield Exports Nov 2022YTD sales for domestic market stood at 4,82,997 units and grew 63.33% YoY. While doing so, the company gained 1,87,286 units in volume YoY. The British brand shipped 5,006 units overseas in November 2022. In contrast, 6,824 units were shipped last year and 5,707 units were shipped in October 2022.Royal Enfield registered 26.64% YoY decline and 12.28% MoM decline. Exports YTD stood at 64,973 units, up from 47,143 units sold a year before. Exports YTD grew by 37.82% YoY and gained 17,830 units in volume. In total, Royal Enfield sold 70,766 motorcycles in November 2022 and gained 37% YoY as opposed to 51,654 motorcycles sold in November 2021.Total sales dropped by 13.95% MoM due to 82,235 motorcycles sold in October 2022. Royal Enfield’s total YTD sales stood at 5,47,970 motorcycles and registered a 59.83% YoY growth and gained 2,05,116 motorcycles in volume. More

    Hero MotoCorp Sales Nov 2022 – Splendor, Passion, Xpulse, Destini

    Positive growth momentum is expected to continue in coming months on account of favourable economic conditions in the countryHero SplendorIndia’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp has reported YoY gain of 12% in the month of November. A total of 390,932 units were sold in comparison to 349,393 units sold in November last year. YTD numbers are also positive with cumulative sales at 3,663,875 units during YTD FY’23. In comparison, a total of 3,360,493 units were sold during YTD FY’22.However, MoM growth is negative in comparison to 454,582 units sold in October 2022. October and November are usually the best months of the year in terms of sales. Most OEMs including Hero launch special schemes, discount offers and finance options to ensure max sales during this period.Hero domestic sales vs. exports – Nov 22Even though Hero has stepped up focus on exports, it continues to be largely dependent on domestic sales. In the month of November, domestic sales were at 379,839 units. YoY growth is positive, as compared to 328,862 units sold in November last year. Domestic sales during YTD FY’23 was at 3,539,944 units, as compared to 3,163,155 units during YTD FY’22.Hero exports have taken a hit in November, possibly due to inflationary conditions prevailing in several overseas markets. India is among the few countries that have relatively less inflation in comparison to global average. Hero export numbers in November were at 11,093 units, a significant fall from 20,531 units exported in November last year. Cumulative numbers tell a similar story with 123,931 units exported during YTD FY’23. Exports were higher at 197,338 units during YTD FY’22.Hero MotoCorp domestic sales – YoY vs MoMOverall, it’s the motorcycles that continue to generate majority of sales for Hero MotoCorp. Some of Hero’s bestsellers include Splendor, HF Deluxe, Hero Passion and Glamour. Contribution of scooters in overall sales was around 10% in November 2022. Both motorcycle and scooter sales were positive in the month. A total of 352,834 motorcycles and 38,098 scooters were sold, as compared to 329,185 motorcycles and 20,208 scooters in November last year.Hero MotoCorp Sales Nov 2022Growth momentum to continueWith favourable economic indicators such as encouraging farm activity, along with positive consumer sentiments and upcoming marriage season, Hero MotoCorp expects the sales momentum to continue in coming months. Sales will also get a boost from VIDA electric scooter, which is currently available in Bengaluru, Delhi and Jaipur. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from second week of December 2022.Hero MotoCorp continues to focus on strengthening the social ecosystem, as part of its CSR program. The company recently provided 50 motorcycles and 10 scooters to Gurugram police. These will be used for patrolling to keep a check on crime and ensure safety of women.There’s focus on promoting biking as well, via special events such as Hero Dirt Biking Challenge (HDBC). The company recently concluded the first edition of this event, which witnessed participation from riders and enthusiasts across the country.
