      Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Sales At 1,337 Units In 2020 – TVS iQube At 290

      Production of Bajaj Chetak electric scooter was stopped in Dec due to shortage of semi-conductor chips

      Even as the Chakan plant commenced production from June onwards, last month production again came to a standstill due to a global shortage in supply of semi-conductors / chips. 0 units of Bajaj Chetak were manufactured in Dec 2020. Sales were down to just 3 units in Dec 2020. This is also the first time TVS iQube sales have been higher than that of Bajaj Chetak since launch.
      Total sales in the year 2020 stood at 1,337 units for Chetak. In comparison, TVS iQube sales were at 290 units for the same period. Bajaj Auto expects to overcome these issues and once again resume production over the next 2-3 months. The company has now announced plans to open up bookings in 24 new cities during the period April 2021 and March 2022.
      Registrations Cross 50k
      Even as the Bajaj Chetak e-scooter is only on sale in the two cities of Bengaluru and Pune, registrations have hit the 50,000 mark. Registrations are not same as booking. It does not involve any payment. Interested buyers who submit their name and number either via online website or at the dealership, is considered as a registration.
      Production Constraint And New Plant
      Earlier this year too, Bajaj had production issues with Chetak. Bajaj Auto relies on its supply of battery cells coming in from Wuhan and the mandatory lockdown and further constraints lead to issues in the supply chain.
      Bajaj Chetak Sales vs TVS iQube in 2020
      Plans are afoot to commence manufacturing of the Chetak e-scooter to capacity once these issues are sorted. Apart from that, the company is working on setting up a brand new plant in Chakan, near Pune. The facility will commence production from 2023 and will be utilized for the manufacture of high end bikes from KTM, Husqvarna and Triumph motorcycles along with the Chetak.
      Bajaj Chetak e-Scooter
      The Bajaj Chetak is priced at Rs.1 lakh. Presented in two variants – Urbane and Premium and six colour options, the Chetak is currently on sale via 13 dealerships in Bengaluru and 4 dealerships in Pune.
      The Chetak e-scooter receives an all metal body with a circular headlamp, alloy wheels and keyless ignition. Its fully digital instrument panel reveals information on battery range and real time battery indicator while the scooter rides on 12 inch wheels.
      Bajaj Chetak is powered by an IP67 rated, 3 kWh lithium ion battery offering 5.36 bhp peak power and 16 Nm peak torque. It receives two modes of Eco and Sport with range of over 95 kms in Eco mode and 85 km in Sport model when fully charged.
      Suspension is via single sided trail link in the front and rear single shock. The company offers a 3 year/50,000 km warranty with the Bajaj Chetak. The Pune based automaker also claims that the life of the battery is around 70,000 kms and has been tested under varying road and weather conditions. More

      Bajaj Pulsar 250 Launch In 2021 – To Be Cheaper Than Dominar 250

      Bajaj Auto currently retails six iterations of Pulsar in different engine configurations including 125cc, 150cc, 160cc, 180cc, 200cc and 220cc

      Bajaj is working on the development of its next generation of Pulsar bikes which will be powered by a 250cc engine. This will expand the bikemaker’s most popular range of motorcycles in India. Although no exact launch timelines have been confirmed yet, the new bikes are expected to hit showrooms sometime later this year.
      Latest reports suggest that the new Pulsar 250 will be offered in both naked sport and racing sport iterations, i.e., NS250 and RS250 respectively. These motorcycles will share most of their mechanical with KTM 250 Duke as they will utilise the latter’s platform as well as engine.
      Bajaj manufactures the quarter-litre naked streetfighter for the Austrian bikemaker in India at its Chakan-based facility near Pune, Maharashtra. While the fully-faired RS250 will rival the likes of Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, the naked street NS250 will lock horns with Yamaha FZ250 and Suzuki Gixxer 250. Both motorcycles will sport revised styling and will be equipped better in terms of features in comparison to their Pulsar 200 counterparts.
      New features onboard are likely to include a new LED headlight and all-digital instrument console with colour display and Bluetooth connectivity. Bajaj is also likely to offer new smartphone connectivity tech with these new bikes.
      Bajaj Dominar 250
      Engine Specification
      Coming to their powertrain specs, NS250 and RS250 will draw their power from a 248.8cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which also powers KTM 250 Duke, 250 Adventure and Bajaj Dominar 250. This unit is capable enough to produce 29 bhp at 8500 rpm and 24 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm.
      Although in Dominar this unit is slightly detuned to return an output of 27 bhp and 23.5 Nm of torque in order to suit its cruiser-friendly nature. This powertrain will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
      Hardware Configurations
      The new Pulsar range of bikes will offer slightly more torque at lower end in order to meet its city commuting requirements. A slipper clutch along with a dual-channel ABS is also expected to be offered as standard. Unlike Dominar 250, the new Pulsar NS250 and RS250 are not likely to be equipped with upside-down USD forks at front. It will get a preload adjustable mono-shock unit at rear. The suspension setup will be slightly tweaked for a sportier ride.
      Both Pulsar NS250 and RS250 are expected to be priced between Rs 1.60-1.80 lakh (ex-showroom) upon its launch in India. NS250 will be cheaper than Dominar 250 while RS 250 will be more expensive than Dominar 250, but cheaper than KTM Duke 250. Earlier, reports also suggested that Bajaj is also working on the development of an all new Pulsar AS 250 Adventure.

      Bajaj Pulsar Sales, Exports Dec 2020 – 125, 150, 180F, 220F, NS160, NS200, RS200

      The Bajaj Pulsar brand of commuter bikes has seen increased demand both in domestic and export markets in the past month

      Bajaj Auto Limited reported total sales of 1,28,642 units in December 2020, up from 1,24,125 units sold in Dec 19. This was a 3.6 percent growth even as the company reported a 0.42 percent decline in market share from 11.82 percent to 11.41 percent. The two wheeler maker finished fourth in the lineup among best-selling two wheelers manufacturers in the country behind Hero, Honda and TVS.
      Bajaj Pulsar Brand
      The Bajaj Pulsar brand consists of 7 models in a price range of Rs.71,616 for the Pulsar 125, going up to the most expensive Pulsar RS200 sports bike available at Rs.1,52,179. The entire range offers high value for money, both in terms of performance and maintenance and is hence considered an important brand for Bajaj Auto. Their stand in terms of sales in December 2020 can be seen from the attached table.
      Pulsar sales in domestic markets in Dec 20 increased 48.08 percent to 75,421 units as against 50,931 units sold in Dec 19. MoM sales however, dipped 28.10 percent as compared to 1,04,904 units sold in Nov 20. Every model in the Pulsar lineup noted MoM de-growth.
      The Pulsar 125 was the most sold model in the Pulsar lineup with a YoY growth of 183.03 percent to 42,686 units in Dec 20. Even as sales of the Pulsar 150 dipped 25.47 percent to 19,958 units, sales of the Pulsar 160,180 and 200 increased to 8,279 units, up 58.51 percent as compared to 5,223 units sold in Dec 19.
      Bajaj Pulsar Domestic Sales Dec 2020
      The Pulsar 220F also noted a surge in sales to 4,498 units sold in the past month. For the 2021 model year, the company has introduced several updates on the 220F with an updated instrument cluster giving better and clearer readouts. The new Pulsar 220F is priced at Rs.1.25 lakhs and competes against the 2021 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.
      Bajaj Pulsar Exports
      Every model in the Bajaj Pulsar lineup noted increased exports both in terms of YoY and MoM except for the Pulsar 125 which saw a 21.74 percent de-growth in Dec 20 over exports in Nov 20.
      Commanding the export list were the Pulsar 160, 180 and 200, with 42.27 percent market share and growth in terms of exports by 16.98 percent YoY. Total shipments to global markets stood at 15,573 units, up from 13,312 units shipped in Dec 19. MoM exports increased 9.68 percent as compared to 14,198 units exported in Nov 20.

      Pulsar 150, 125 and 220F all noted increased YoY exports with exports of the Pulsar 150 noting a 100 percent increase from 7,008 units exported in Dec 19 to 14,043 units shipped in the past month. MoM exports were equally promising except for the Pulsar 125 which noted a 212.74 percent de-growth in Dec 20 to 4,555 units over 5,820 units exported in Nov 20.
      Earlier this month, Bajaj Auto increased prices across the Pulsar range. This was following the previous price hike that happened less than a month ago. Almost the entire Pulsar range except for the Pulsar 125 (drum variant) and RS 200 have seen a surge in prices. The price hike varies between Rs. 1,000 and a little over Rs. 2,000. However, Bajaj reduced price of Pulsar 125 Neon by Rs. 506 for an earlier Rs.72,122 to Rs 71,616. More

      A popular dual-purpose, performance oriented commuter bike, Bajaj Pulsar 220F is now available in its 2021 iteration. The updated model has started arriving at showrooms and is available for test rides. Pulsar 220F new model comes with new features and improved engine performance.
      Bajaj Pulsar 220F 2021 new features
      One of the key updates is the repositioning of the odometer wire. As compared to the earlier model that had the odometer wire connected to the front wheel, the new model has the wire connected to the rear wheel. This is part of the digital upgrade of the motorcycle, which also includes an updated instrument console.
      The speedometer is placed at the left whereas the info screen is on the right. It displays a range of information such as trip meter, fuel economy per trip and distance to empty. The only things that seem to be lacking is a gear indicator and clock. These weren’t available in the earlier model either.
      Bajaj Pulsar 220F 2021 engine
      Updated Pulsar 220F will continue using the same 220 cc DTS-i BS6, oil-cooled engine that is capable of delivering 20.4 ps of max power and 18.55 Nm of max torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Below is the detailed walkaround video by MRD Vlogs.

      However, based on test rides by YouTuber MRD Vlogs, performance and acceleration have been improved on the new model. The engine also seems smoother, as compared to the existing model. It is possible that the engine may have been fine-tuned to deliver improved performance.
      As shown in the test ride video, the bike accelerates from 0 to 70 kmph in just around 4-5 seconds.  It also achieves a top speed of 112 kmph in a seemingly effortless manner.
      Bajaj Pulsar 220F 2021 design and styling
      There are no major changes in the design and styling of updated 220F. It continues with its sporty profile, as is evident in its projector headlamps, aerodynamic semi-fairing, split seats, sleek LED tail lamp, laser edged graphics, split rear grab rails, upswept silencer with deep carbon black wrapping, and colour coded alloy wheel decals. Colour options of Back Blue and Black Red are also the same as earlier.
      2021 Bajaj Pulsar 220F
      Apart from the new features and enhanced engine performance, all other features and cycle parts are the same as earlier. The bike utilizes telescopic front suspension with anti-friction brush and 5-way adjustable Nitrox shock absorber at the rear. Braking duties are performed by 280 mm disc at the front and 230 mm disc at the rear.
      With the updates, Bajaj Pulsar 220F new 2021 model could become pricier by around Rs 2k. The current model is available at a starting price of Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). More

      Bajaj Auto does not have an adventure motorcycle in its portfolio as of yet, even though it manufactures a couple of them at its facility in Chakan for its Austrian partner KTM. Adv tourers have off late been the go-to segment of motorcycles for adventure junkies.
      Many people from the biking community have wondered what has kept Bajaj from manufacturing an adventure bike under its own brand when it already has the requisite technology in hand. Well, that is a question that only folks at Bajaj Auto could answer. Meanwhile, Autologue Design is providing aftermarket body kits for Pulsar NS200.
      Contents of body kit
      Rechristened NS Xplorer, this body kit add ons make the stock naked streetfighter look like a typical adventure motorcycle. 30 units of these aftermarket body kits have been made available at an introductory price of Rs 9,999. After that, price will be increased to Rs 13,500. Prices are excluding taxes.
      Deliveries of the kits will begin from 10 February 2020. Each kit consists of tank shrouds, a beak-like front fender, a large visor to prevent wind burst and an underbelly engine protector. Graphics cost is extra.
      Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 Adventure Kit
      There are five colour options for these body kits including red/black/silver, red/white/silver, black/yellow/silver, blue/white/silver and red/white/silver. Images here also show wheel rims with coloured stripes. No changes have been made to its mechanical configurations, therefore it is still very much a road-biased street naked motorcycle underneath.
      Pulsar NS 200 Details
      Speaking of its mechanicals, it is based on a pressed steel perimeter frame which is suspended by conventional telescopic forks at front and a preload adjustable mono-shock at rear. Braking setup consists of a 280mm disc up front and 230m disc at rear which is assisted by a single-channel ABS and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels front and rear.
      Coming to its powertrain, it is powered by a 199.5cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 23 bhp and 18 Nm of peak and comes paired with a six-speed gearbox. This unit also performs duties on KTM Duke 200.
      Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 Adventure Kit
      KTM 250 Adventure Details
      KTM recently launched its entry-level adventure tourer 250 Adventure a couple of months ago at a price of Rs 2.52 lakh (ex-showroom). This bike is manufactured by Bajaj at its facility outside Pune in Maharashtra.
      This bike is powered by a 248.76cc BS6 compliant liquid-cooled engine which cranks out a power of 29.5 bhp and a peak torque of 24 Nm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox. It features WP branded USB forks at front and a mono-shock at rear. Anchorage setup consists of a 280mm disc at front and a 230mm disc brake at rear along with single-channel ABS.

      Bajaj Price List Jan 2021 – Pulsar, Platina, CT100, Avenger, Dominar Prices Increased

      To get in the spirit of the new year, a price revision has been introduced for MY21 Bajaj motorcycles

      New year. New Me. Sounds great. But that’s not how it works with automobiles. What does change is manufacturing year. The cause and effect being new model year vehicle, in this case MY21 vehicles are more likely than not pricier.
      As a norm, such disclosure is usually made in the closing weeks of the year prior. It serves a dual benefit. One, as a reminder that vehicles are going to be costlier soon. Simultaneously, it brings spring to people’s steps as they go about bargain hunting just in case there’s a good deal to be found.
      With attention to December deals and discounts, this enthusiasm is heavily relied on to boost year end sale. Certainly a period when manufacturers are dealing with the low ebb of slow shopping trends following a robust festive season in the preceding months.
      Jan 2021 Bajaj Motorcycles Price List
      Price revisions are thought out carefully to offset input costs. Most importantly, they can’t be so steep that buyers are put off. And a pre-decided cap of price hike percentage means prices vary across the product lineup depending on base price. To start with, Bajaj’s entry price point vehicle CT100 alloy KS is now costlier by 500 bucks at Rs 46,931. The ES variant warranted a steeper revision at Rs1,344. This widens the price gap between both variants even further. ES now costs RS 53,491.

      Base Platina variant continues at same price as before – Rs 51,667. Bajaj Platina 100 ES drum variant price hike is least at Rs 403 at a revised price point of about 59 grands. ES disc variant is now costlier by 1,900 bucks. Price is revised to Rs 62,726 from Rs 60,826. The 110 H gear disc variant is costlier by just over a grand at Rs 64,077 from Rs 76,922.
      2021 Bajaj Pulsar variants and price
      For one thing, where the Pulsar is concerned, Bajaj presents an entourage. In essence, you’d be forgiven if you didn’t know just how many variants there are. In fact, entry level Pulsar 125 Drum CBS is the only bike across the portfolio that has seen a price reduction of Rs 506 instead of a hike. The unit now costs Rs 71,616, down from Rs 72,122 earlier. Both, 125 Disc CBS, and split seat duo are costlier by Rs 1,024. Disc CBS price is revised to Rs 77,946 from Rs 76,922. 125 Split Seat Drum CBS now costs Rs 74,298, up from Rs 73,274. Disc variant price is revised to Rs 81,242 from just over 80 grands.

      Pulsar 150 Neon is costlier by about 1,500 bucks at Rs 94,125, up from Rs 92,627. On balance, remainder of Pulsar variants retail for a price tag of over a lakh. At a price revision of Rs 1,498, 150 single disc variant now retails at Rs 1,01,082, up from just under a lakh. 150 Twin Disc ABS, NS160 and 180F too have been made costlier by about 1,500 bucks.
      Pulsar 150 Twin Disc ABS now retails at Rs 1,04,979. NS160 costs 1,10,086, up from Rs 1,08,589. Pulsar 180F price was revised to Rs 1,14,515. 220f and NS200 are both pricier by 2 grands. 2021 price list is revised at Rs 1,25,248, and Rs 1,33,222, respectively. Comparatively, the range-topping RS200’s price remained unchanged at just over 1.5 lakhs.
      Bajaj Avenger and Dominar price revision for 2021
      Although, Pulsar range gets most attention, Bajaj’s once popular Avenger continues to be available in 2 variants. Avenger 160 Street is costlier by 1,500 bucks at RS 1,02,592, up from Rs 1,01,094. The 220 Cruiser variant is costlier at Rs 1,24,634. Price revision is limited to just over 2 grands, up from Rs 1,22,630.
      The Dominar duo are the priciest offerings from Bajaj. Dominar 250 is now 2 grands dearer at Rs 1,67,718. Dominar 400 price too is revised by about 2 grands and now retails for just under 2 lakhs, at Rs 1,99,755. More

      Bajaj Dec 2020 Sales Report – Highest Ever Exports; Pulsar, Boxer, Platina, CT

      Bajaj Auto has become the most valuable two-wheeler company in the world – with a market capitalization of Rs. 1 lakh crore

      The Indian automobile industry struggled through the entire first half of 2020 due to the pandemic striking early in the year. However, it showed signs of recovery in the latter half after July/August and by the end of last year, sales improved substantially for almost every two and four wheeler in the country.
      Bajaj Auto has announced an 11 percent increase in sales in December 2020. Positive sales were noted both in terms of domestic sales and exports and where the company range of two wheelers were concerned while commercial vehicles sales dipped substantially.

      In domestic markets, Bajaj Auto sold 1,28,642 units in Dec 20, an increase of 4 percent as against 1,24,125 units sold in Dec 19. Pulsar, Platina and CT range were the highest sellers in domestic market. Exports in the past month were at their highest at 2,09,942 units, up 31 percent from 1,60,677 units exported in Dec 19. Leading the exports were Boxer, Pulsar range. This took total sales in this segment up 19 percent to 3,38,584 units, up from 2,84,802 units sold in the same month of the previous year.
      Where commercial vehicles were concerned, domestic sales stood at 10,964 units in the past month, down by 62 percent, while exports increased marginally to 22,984 units up from 22,215 units exported in Dec 19. Total sales of commercial vehicles fell 34 percent to 33,948 units in Dec 20 down from 51,253 units sold in Dec 19.

      FY 2020 opened on a dismal note. Hence YTD sales of Bajaj Auto also suffered both where two wheeler and commercial vehicle sales were concerned. Two wheeler sales dipped 21 percent to 13,21,644 units in the April to December 2020 period, down from 16,75,264 units sold in the same period of the previous year.
      Exports fell 13 percent to 12,36,617 units thus taking total two wheeler sales down 17 percent to 25,58,261 units, down from 30,94,028 units sold in the April to December 2019 period. Domestic sales and exports of commercial vehicles dipped 54 percent to 2,44,989 units. Total two wheeler and commercial vehicle sales fell 23 percent to 28,03,250 units in the 9 month period, down from 36,23,251 units sold in the same period of the previous year.

      Leading Two and Three Wheeler Maker
      Bajaj Auto Limited, a leading two and three wheeler maker recently hit its 75th year of operations. Apart from being the largest two wheeler maker in India, the company has also become the most valuable two wheeler company globally having crossed market capitalization of Rs.1 lakh crores. Share price now stands at Rs.3,479 and market capitalization at Rs 100,670.76 crores.
      The Bajaj Auto brands like the Pulsar, Boxer, Platina and RE are among the most popular across the globe. The recently launched Chetak eScooter has also found favour among buyers and the company has also made a major investment of Rs.450 crores in a 4th plant in Chakan, Maharashtra for the production of its premium range of motorcycles and e-scooters. Apart from this manufacturing facility, Bajaj also has its production units at Waluj near Aurangabad, and at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand.
      A successful partnership with KTM AG, Austria has also helped it on its journey to success and for KTM to become the largest manufacturer of premium sports motorcycles. Bajaj has also entered into an alliance with Triumph Motorcycles to develop budget friendly low capacity premium motorcycles.       Bajaj-Triumph Sub Rs 2 Lakh Motorcycle Launch Delayed To 2023

      The Covid-19 pandemic has played spoilsport to another new automotive project in India

      The Bajaj-Triumph partnership is one of the most talked-about joint ventures in the Indian automotive industry in recent past. Both companies entered into a long-term partnership in 2017 which will focus on a non-equity tie-up to develop mid-capacity motorcycles ranging from 200cc to 750cc.
      However, the first product out of this joint venture might face a delay due to the ongoing crisis. In an interaction with ET Auto, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, has revealed that the upcoming bike from Bajaj-Triumph partnership could be delayed by several months because of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
      Delayed to 2023
      Bajaj said that due to COVID-19-related disruptions, launch of the first Bajaj-Triumph bike may get deferred to 2023. It was earlier reported that this JV planned to bring out its first model sometime in 2022. Both bikemakers have remained reticent about the models to be developed under this JV. However, some reports indicate that its lineup will include Triumph Tiger, a baby Daytona 250 and a mini Bonneville.
      Although one thing is clear that most of these motorcycles under this tie-up will be manufactured at Bajaj’s facility in Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra with localisation up to 99 percent as in the case with Bajaj-KTM partnership.

      Additionally, Bajaj will also be responsible for marketing and sales of Triumph motorcycles in India manufactured by it as well as oversee the exports to neighbouring countries in the subcontinent, Asia, Africa and other markets.
      Expected Details of the first model
      All these motorcycles under this JV are likely to wear the nameplate of Triumph. The first model out of this is likely to be built on a 200cc platform which will be powered by the same 200cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which also powers Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and KTM Duke 200. This bike is expected to be based on the entry-level Triumph Bonneville which sports a retro-classic design.
      It might feature a round headlamp, a single-piece flat seat, alloy wheels, a tear drop shaped fuel tank and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Anchorage duties might be handled by disc brakes on both ends assisted by a dual-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard. This motorcycle is likely to be priced below Rs 2.0 lakh (ex-showroom) and will rival models from Royal Enfield and Jawa.
      In recent times, we have witnessed many foreign high-end bikemakers partner with Indian manufacturers to offer affordable premium motorcycles for Indian consumers.
