    In a move that could make rivals sit up and take notice, Bajaj has launched its popular Platina 110 motorcycle with ABS. This will be a segment-first feature that could attract customers looking for improved safety.
    As per rules, ABS is mandatory only for two-wheelers above 125cc. For below 125cc motorcycles, it is mandatory to have combined breaking system (CBS). Platina 110 current model has CBS. It has 240mm disc at the front and 110 mm drum brake at the rear with CBS. The ABS variant will have single-channel ABS integrated with the front disc brake.

    To ensure that the ABS variant does not become too pricey, Bajaj has downgraded some of the features available with current model (Platina H-gear). For example, the semi-digital instrument console has been replaced with a completely analogue unit. Platina 110 ABS has analogue speedometer and odometer unit on the left, which also displays the ABS icon. On the right, there is analogue fuel gauge along with other standard indictors.
    In comparison, the semi-digital instrument console on-board Platina 110 H-gear model has features such as trip meter, gear shift indicator, low battery indicator and clock. Another cost cutting measure is a standard sticker that replaces the 3D ‘Platina’ logo on the fuel tank.

    To create a distinct identity for Platina 110 ABS variant, Bajaj has introduced some visual updates. Key among them is white coloured alloy wheels.  It is to note that other Bajaj motorcycles such as the premium Pulsar RS and NS range have this type of styling. In other updates, turn indicators have been replaced with sleeker units and there is ‘ABS’ branding in gold shade.

    Bajaj Platina 110 ABS will continue using the 115.45 cc, single cylinder, electronic injection engine that is capable of generating 8.6 PS of max power at 7000 rpm and 9.81 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
    Suspension system will also be the same as earlier; telescopic units at the front and Nitrox gas canister based rear suspension. Bajaj Platina 110 ABS will continue to offer superior comfort to users, which has been one of its primary USPs.
    Bajaj introducing a premium safety feature in its 110 cc monocycle is commendable. However, it remains to be seen if the strategy translates into sale volumes. Platina 110 ABS is priced at Rs 65,926 while the current model H Gear retails at a starting price of Rs 64,685 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Price is an important factor in this segment, so not all customers may be willing to pay a higher price.

    Bajaj is gearing up to launch the new Platina 110 H-Gear with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). This will make it the first manufacturer to offer ABS on an entry-level 110cc motorcycle in India. Images of the upcoming bike have surfaced online which shed some details about it.
    Cosmetic Updates
    The model in these pics is seen sporting a grey paint scheme with black and white body graphics. However, the most notable variation from the regular Platina 110 is a pair of spoked alloy wheels painted in white. Apart from these visual add-ons, an ABS kit and few more cosmetic updates, it is still essentially the same bike.

    Feature Updates
    The new alloy wheels take inspiration from the brand’s premium Pulsar RS and NS range of models. The rear shock absorbers along with ‘Platina’ and ‘ABS’ branding are painted in golden colour. Further, all four turn indicators have been reworked and now look sharper and sleeker.
    Interestingly, this model gets an analogue instrument cluster against the standard model’s semi-digital console. It consists of an analogue speedometer, analogue fuel gauge, analogue odometer and all basic tell-tale lights.

    Platina 110 ABS is also expected to feature updated hardware in the form of ComforTec technology with nitrox SoS suspension. It is also expected to receive broader rubber footpads and a longer seat for improved rider and pillion comfort.
    Other updates include a 3D logo with new decals, tubeless tyres and a better quality saddle with well-cushioned and well-foamed seats. Other than this, there will be no other changes on Platina 110 ABS.
    Engine Specs
    It will still draw its energy from a BS6 compliant 115cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that kicks out 8.44 bhp of power and 9.81 Nm of peak torque. This unit is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks upfront and twin shocks at rear. The earlier model with a semi-digital console also came with a ‘Gear-Shift-Guide’ which was essentially a gear shift indicator.

    Platina 110 H-Gear made its debut in India a couple of years back and is currently retailed in two trims- drum brake and disc brake. It is currently offered at a starting price of Rs 64,301 (ex-showroom) and it is expected that after the launch of the ABS variant the base trim might be discontinued. Although Bajaj hasn’t revealed prices of the new ABS variant of Platina 110, we expect it to be priced around Rs 70k (ex-showroom).

    Bajaj Feb 2021 Sales – Platina, Pulsar, CT100, Avenger, Dominar

    Total two-wheeler sales during the past month were up 7 percent at 3.32 lakh units as compared to 3.10 lakh units sold in Feb 20

    Bajaj Auto Limited has released their sales figures for the past month. The company continued to experience single digit growth rate in Feb 2021 as was seen in Jan 21.
    Bajaj has reported a sales growth of 6 percent with total sales of 3,75,017 units as against 3,54,913 units in the same month of last year. Two wheeler sales increased 7 percent to 3,32,563 units in Feb 21 as against 3,10,222 units sold in Feb 20 with domestic sales remaining flat at 1 percent increase to 1,48,934 units.
    Two wheeler exports increased 12 percent to 1,83,629 units in the past month as against 1,63,346 units exported in Feb 20. Bajaj Auto is paying close attention to extending its Pulsar range. The new Pulsars are poised for launch and are being actively tested with launch date set for later this year.
    Commercial Vehicle Sales
    Commercial vehicle sales in Feb 21 noted a de-growth of 5 percent to 42,454 units, down from 44,691 units sold in Feb 20. In this case as well, domestic sales dipped 27 percent to 15,877 units, down from 21,871 units sold in Feb 20 while exports increased 16 percent to 26,577 units, up from 22,820 units shipped in the same month of the previous year.

    The company continues to face supply chain issues and hence losing both in terms of domestic sales and exports. As was stated by Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, growth would have been much more had it not been for shortage in supply of semi-conductors and ABS parts from Bosch.
    Total two wheeler and commercial vehicle sales increased 6 percent in Feb 21 to 3,75,017 units with de-growth in terms of domestic sales but more positive exports. Domestic sales dipped 2 percent to 1,64,811 units, down from 1,68,747 units in Feb 21, while exports increased 13 percent to 2,10,206 units, up from 1,86,166 units exported in Feb 20.
    Bajaj Auto Year to Date Sales
    Bajaj Auto year to date – April 2020 to Feb 2021, sales ended in the red. This was both in terms of two wheelers and commercial vehicles and where domestic sales and exports were concerned. Total sales stood at 36,03,466 units during the said period, down 18 percent as against 43,72,637 units sold in the corresponding period of the previous year.

    Two wheeler domestic sales dipped 18 percent to 16,27,982 units, down from 19,79,936 units sold in the same April to Feb period of 2020. Exports slipped 6 percent to 16,47,778 units from 17,56,656 units while it was a similar performance seen in terms of commercial vehicles.
    Total commercial vehicle sales in the April-Feb 2020 period had stood at 6,36,045 units, which fell 48 percent to 3,27,706 units in the April-Feb 2021 period. Domestic sales dipped 73 percent while exports fell 18 percent during the same period. This took total two wheeler (-26 percent) and commercial vehicle sales (-8 percent) for the period April-Feb 2021 to 36,03,466 units, down 18 percent as against 43,72,637 units. More

    Bajaj Sales, Exports Jan 2021 – Pulsar, Platina, CT, Avenger, Chetak

    Bajaj domestic wholesales fell marginally in January 2021, and exports grew significantly

    Bajaj reported 1.59 percent decline in domestic wholesales in January 2021. Volume loss is reported at just under 2.5k units, down to 1,50,299 units from 1,52,731 units. Of this Pulsar commands the lion’s share in sales at 97,760 units. It contributed to 65 percent of total Bajaj domestic wholesales.
    Most Pulsar sales is reported in the 125cc segment at 47,080 units. In the segment sales almost doubled from 24,732 units at volume gain of 22,348 units. This is followed by the 150cc segment wherein Pulsar sales stood at 32,640 units. Growth was reported at under 5 percent, up from 31,216 units.
    In the subsequent 151cc – 200cc segment, Pulsar sales is reported at 11,730 units at 57.56 percent growth. Sales grew from 7,445 units at volume gain of 4,285 units. Pulsar 220 sales grew by more than a quarter, up at 6,310 units from just under 5k units.
    Bajaj Platina and CT sales
    Platina is the next bestselling motorcycle, available both as a 100cc and 110cc offering. Sales fell to 27,131 units, down from 38,054 units. Volume loss is reported at 10,923 at 28.70 percent sales decline. Sales contribution stood at just over 18 percent of total domestic wholesales.

    Bajaj CT also available in 100cc and 110 cc avatars saw sales fall significantly. Sales decline stood at 53.80 percent, down at 19,635 units from 42,497 units. Sales more than halved at volume loss of 22,862 units.
    Bajaj Avenger and Dominar sales
    Avenger sales is reported at 4,276 units. Sales grew by a quarter, up from 3,408 units at volume gain of 868 units. 160cc Avenger sales contributed to the bulk of the volume at almost 3.1k units at volume gain of 180 units at 6.18 percent growth. 220cc Avenger sales is reported at just below 1.2k units, up from 496 units at volume gain of 688 units.
    Dominar available as a 250cc and 400cc offering saw cumulative sales reported at 1,467 units. Of this 250cc Dominar sales stood at 797 units, and 400cc sales at 670 units. Both reported growth. While Bajaj has been adamant of not entering the scooter business, it did launch its Chetak in a new avatar as an electric scooter. 30 units were reported sold last month. No units of Discover were sold.

    Exports in January 2021 were way more positive, crossing the 2 lakh mark. Exports grew to 2,01,840 units, up from 1,56,939 units at 28.61 percent growth. Volume gain stood at juts under 45k units. In export markets, the Boxer punches its weight in gold. Last month it accounted for almost 70 percent of total exports.
    Numbers were up at 1,40,544 units, up from 1,18,104 units at volume gain of 22,440 units. Pulsar and CT exports were similar at just under 19k units each, contributing to below 10 percent each in exports. Discover exports are reported at 14,616 units. Platina at 7,140 units. Dominar exports stood at 1,288 units, and Avenger at 547 units. More

    New Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS Spied Testing – Launch Likely In 2021

    The new Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 gets significant cosmetic revision while the hardware appear to be retained

    The Bajaj Pulsar NS family of street fighters aged rather well. Started its innings with a 200 cc variant almost a decade ago, the NS nameplate later spawned a popular 160 variant with identical styling. The competition has come up with modern and better equipped compact displacement naked motorcycles, prompting Bajaj Auto to revisit the drawing board.

    A prototype of what appears to be the next generation Bajaj Pulsar NS has been spotted testing on the public road for the first time. The air-cooling fins on the engine block strongly indicate that this is a 160 cc variant. The tyre sizes, thin front telescopic forks and box section swing arm also point towards the smaller engined variant.
    The revised bodywork appears to be production ready but the finer details are concealed by the camouflage. The most significant visual change is the fuel tank which now features longer extensions. The headlamp is also completely new with a compact projector unit and a redesigned casing.
    The tailpiece continues to retain familiarity but we expect the taillight to undergo revision. It is reasonable to assume that the new Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 will receive an updated fully digital instrument console. Spy images are credit to automotive enthusiast Jupiter Logo.

    Specifications
    The time proven 160.3 cc air / oil-cooled single-cylinder motor is expected to be carried forward. The underbelly exhaust has been done away with in favour of a conventional canister in a bid to meet the stricter emission standards. In its current avatar, the motor produces a healthy 17.2 hp and 14.6 Nm of torque, and is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Changes, if any, are likely to be nominal.
    The perimeter frame, suspension and braking setup appear to have been carried forward without any changes. The sporty compact displacement naked motorcycle is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear discs with single-channel ABS.
    Bigger engined variant on its way?
    It is only a matter of time before the Pulsar NS 200 receives a successor and it is expected to adopt the bigger 250 cc liquid-cooled motor from the Dominar. A bigger engine would help create a sufficient distance from its 160 cc sibling in terms of market positioning and pricing, while also strengthening the brand’s quarter liter lineup.
    Rivals
    The new Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 will be pitted against the TVS Apache RTR 160, Hero Xtreme 160R and Yamaha FZS-FI. The brand pull and a modern design should give the new naked Pulsar an edge over its rivals. We expect the new motorcycle to be ready for the market sometime in the second half of this year to take advantage of the festive season.     Bajaj Pulsar Sales, Exports Jan 2021 – 125, 150, 160, 180, 200, 220

    Bajaj has now launched a naked roadster iteration of Pulsar 180 which makes it the eighth product on the Pulsar line of motorcycles

    Pulsar is arguably one of the most popular brands of motorcycles in India for the past two decades. The range of sporty commuter bikes from Bajaj Auto are efficient in daily commutes as well as providing the necessary thrill of performance to a certain extent of course. Hence, it proves to be the best of both worlds.
    Even after twenty years in the Indian market, it continues to grow from strength to strength and has a plethora of options to opt from. The past month was no different as it continued to record positive growth in almost every segment. The entire range registered sales of 97,580 units in January 2021.
    Domestic- Pulsar 125 Tops the chart
    This was against last year January which recorded 68,354 units of Pulsar and the previous month of December 2020 which registered 75,421 units. This translated to YoY growth of 42.76 percent and MoM growth of 29.38 percent.
    The sales chart was led by its entry-level offering Pulsar 125 which recorded 47,080 units last month. In comparison, it registered sales of 24,732 units in January 2020 and 42,686 units in December 2020. This made for a YoY and MoM growth of 90.36 percent and 10.29 percent respectively.

    This was followed by Pulsar 150 which raked in 32,460 units for the homegrown bikemaker. Bajaj sold 31,216 units and 19,958 units of the 150cc bike in the first and last month of 2020 respectively. Therefore, it registered a YoY and MoM growth of 3.99 percent and 62.64 percent.
    Higher Segments Record Decent Sales Too
    The 160cc, 180cc and 200cc iteration of Pulsar bikes brought in 11,730 units in January this year. While the figures stood at 7,445 units in January last year and 8,279 units in December last year. YoY and MoM growth percentage figures registered were pegged at 57.56 percent and 41.68 percent respectively.
    The brand’s flagship offering- Pulsar 220F sold 6,310 units in January this year. With sales of 4,961 units in January 2020 and 4,498 units in December 2020, growth figures stood at 27.19 percent and 40.28 percent respectively.

    Exports
    Bajaj dispatched 18,056 units of the 160cc, 180cc and 200cc Pulsar bikes to overseas markets. This translates to an MoM growth of 15.94 percent a YoY growth of 51.22 percent and 15.94 percent. The company shipped 12,674 units of the 150cc iteration of Pulsar to foreign countries. While it recorded a YoY growth of 137.96 percent and in MoM sales, it witnessed a degrowth of 9.75 percent.
    3,458 units of the entry-level Pulsar 125 were shipped abroad which translated to positive YoY growth of 73.77 percent and negative YoY growth of 24.08 percent. The flagship Pulsar 220F dispatched 1,536 units to dealerships in foreign markets which translated to an impressive YoY growth of 326.67 percent whereas in MoM figures it registered degrowth of 42.54 percent.
    A total of 35,724 Pulsar bikes were dispatched overseas in January 2021 which marked an overall YoY growth of 82.12 percent and an MoM degrowth of 3.04 percent. The company is looking to expand its Pulsar brand of motorcycles by launching new models in 180cc, 250cc and 400cc categories. More

    Bajaj has initiated an online sales platform for its entire range of Bajaj, KTM and Husqvarna offerings

    Bajaj Auto sales go online at https://online.bajajauto.com/ This online sales platform comes at a time when social distancing is the new normal and this online booking scheme involves the entire process from booking to delivery in a contactless format.
    Buyers need to log onto the online portal, select their brand for the list of Avenger, CT, Dominar, Platina, Pulsar, Husqvarna or KTM models and continue to choose their engine capacities, variants and colours. Buyers will be informed the final ex-showroom price of the vehicle chosen and can select their city and local dealer.
    Buyers can then opt for further details, book a test ride or make a confirmed booking at with an online payment which will be adjusted with the final payment. All this is done from the comfort of their couch.
    The Bajaj Auto online platform is being rolled out in phases across the company network and is currently on offer only in select cities and dealerships. For now, it is only on offer in five cities of Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

    Bajaj Auto Upcoming Launches
    Bajaj Auto has just launched the new Pulsar 180 BS6 in India at Rs. 1.08 lakh. It borrows its engine lineup from the Pulsar 180F. This naked roadster is powered by a 178.6cc, single cylinder, air cooled engine offering 16.7 hp power at 8,500 rpm, mated to a 5 speed gearbox. It rivals the TVS Apache RTR 180 in its segment.
    Bajaj is also stated to be working on a new gen Pulsar range that will include250cc and 150cc Pulsars. The company plans to bring in Pulsar NS250 and the Pulsar RS250 in India in 2021 and they will be based on the Duke 250 platform and borrow its same engine lineup. Pulsar RS250 will compete with the Suzuki Gixxer SF250 while the NS250 will take on the Gixxer 250.
    Earlier this month, the company also launched the new Husqvarna Svartpilen 125 in Europe at Euro 5,199 (Rs 4.54 lakhs). It will be launched in India later this year. Production has already started at the company plant in Chakan, near Pune.

    Bajaj Auto has also planned a new plant in Chakan from where it will produce the KTM, Husqvarna and electric two wheelers.     2021 Bajaj Pulsar 180 Features, Changes, Mileage, Performance – Detailed

    Bajaj Pulsar 180 is now a naked roadster and hence stands 10 kgs lighter as compared to the Pulsar 180F

    In 2019, Bajaj discontinued the Pulsar 180, and replaced it with 180F. Now they have brought back the Pulsar 180 in 2021. It is priced from Rs 1.08 lakhs, making it Rs.7k cheaper as compared to the Pulsar 180F which carried a price tag of Rs.1.15 lakhs, ex-sh prices. Bookings have opened and initial examples move into company showrooms.
    Bajaj Pulsar 180 Styling Elements
    Borrowing design inspiration from the Pulsar 150, new Pulsar 180 is seen with sporty body graphics across its fuel tank and front fender. It also receives split seats, pillion grab rails and multi spoke black finished alloy wheels.
    Headlamp is halogen and it comes along with twin pilot lamps. It continues to sport the same instrument cluster as seen on its 180F counterpart with an digital-analogue tachometer and LCD screen relaying information in terms of speed and fuel and an odometer.

    Engine, Braking and Suspension
    The naked roadster gets powered by a 178.6cc, single cylinder, 2 valve, air cooled engine that also powers the 180F. This engine makes 17.02 hp power at 8,500 rpm and 14.2 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm, which is lower by 0.2 hp and 0.3 Nm as compared to the engine on the Pulsar 180F. The engine gets mated to a 5 speed gearbox. Kerb weight stands at 145 kgs which is 10 kgs lighter as compared to the 180F since it is devoid of fairing.
    Braking and suspension is also carried over from the Pulsar 180F with 280mm front and 230mm rear disc setup and a single-channel ABS system and telescopic front forks and five-step adjustable gas-charged mono-shock at the rear. Mileage of new Pulsar 180 is more or less the same as before and there is no huge improvement in this department.
    Rivals
    The new Bajaj Pulsar 180 enters a segment where it will take on TVS Apache RTR 180 (Rs.1.08,270). It will also compete with the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Pulsar NS160, Yamaha FZS FI-V3 and Hero Xtreme 160R in a similar price range.
    In related news, Bajaj Auto is also gearing up to add more motorcycles to the Pulsar range, that will include 250cc bikes. The Bajaj Pulsar NS250 and RS250 are pegged for launch later this year. They will share both platform and engine with the KTM 250 Duke. The Pulsar RS250 will compete with the Suzuki Gixxer SF250 while the Pulsar NS250 compete with the Suzuki Gixxer 250. More
