Bajaj Chetak electric scooter, launched in India more than 1.5 years ago, has been closed for bookings for most of the time. The retro classic electric scooter came in with much fanfare in Jan 2020. It was an immediate hit, receiving over 50,000 expression of interest and huge booking orders in first few weeks.
Then came Covid-19 induced lockdown in March 2020. Production got affected as supply chain was down. Parts were not available. These issues resulted in Bajaj closing booking. Priority was to deliver the electric scooter to those who had already booked.
Bajaj Chetak Electric Scoter – New Cities
Until now, Bajaj Chetak was only on sale in Pune and Bangalore. Bajaj had plans to launch the scooter in many cities by end 2020, but Covid-19 has caused the delay. With life slowly getting back on track, or the world learns to survive with Covid-19, automakers are starting to execute their plans which were paused due to the pandemic.
Bajaj Chetak has announced the launch of Chetak electric scooter in Nagpur. The launch event took in the presence of Hon. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. He unveiled the Chetak Electric at KTM Khamla Square, Nagpur. Interestingly, it was Nitin Gadkari who unveiled the Chetak back in Jan 2020 in Delhi.
Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Bookings Open In Nagpur
The Bajaj Chetak, offered in Urbane and Premium variants was priced at Rs.1 lakh and Rs.1.15 lakhs respectively. But recently, its prices were hiked and is now available at a price of about Rs 1.43 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh respectively.
The company is confident that despite a rather significant increase in price, demand will in no way be affected as the Chetak appeals to a more affluent segment of first time two wheeler buyers in the country. Bajaj will launch Chetak next in Aurangabad, Mysore, Mangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. By March 2022, the company plans to have its presence in 30 cities across India.
Bajaj New Chakan Plant
Bajaj is planning a new production facility in Chakan, near Pune. It is from here that the company plans to produce premium range of motorcycles from brands like KTM, Husqvarna and Triumph, as well as the Bajaj Chetak e-scooter. The company has signed an MoU with the Government of Maharashtra to set up this new facility into which the company will make investments of Rs. 650 crores.
As per the terms of the agreement, the Government of Maharashtra will assist the bikemaker in procuring permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances, fiscal incentives, etc, from the concerned departments. It is from this new plant that KTM AG also plans to develop an electric scooter on the Chetak platform. More

Bajaj Auto is also looking to expand its Pulsar range of motorcycles in future
Back in the late 90s and early 21st century, Bajaj and Kawasaki had a partnership going in India. The joint venture came out with some of the most popular entry-level commuter motorcycles in the market. One of them was Bajaj Caliber. Originally launched in 1998, the entry-level commuter was a rage among the masses.
The bike also grabbed attention was one of its kind TV commercials which featured the buzzing tagline “Hoodibaba”. Caliber could possibly make a return to the Indian market after Bajaj Auto recently filed a trademark for the same. If development indeed comes true, it could make things very interesting in the entry-level commuter motorcycle space.
Caliber Details
Caliber 115 was built using Bajaj 4S as the base and was powered by a 111.6cc air-cooled motor developed jointly by the Indian and Japanese bikemakers. This unit produced a sufficient output of 9.5 bhp and 9.10 Nm of peak torque and was paired with a 4-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle could attain a top speed of 102 kmph which was a very big thing for any commuter bike back then. While performance was very strong for its segment, it didn’t return a favourable mileage which Indian buyers in this segment usually seek.
Bajaj Caliber Trademark Filed Again In 2021
Its suspension setup consisted of a hydraulically damped telescopic with rubber boots and a swing arm hydraulic shock absorber with coaxial 5 step adjustable spring at front and rear respectively. The bike carried a neat and simple design with some basic sticker graphics in the fuel tank and fenders.
Possible Outcomes & Specs
The trademark application states that the ‘Caliber’ nameplate could be used for two-wheelers-either IC engine and electrically powered. However, it seems unlikely that it will be used for a battery-powered motorcycle. That leaves Bajaj with two options- either a 115cc from Platina 110 or a 125cc motor from Pulsar 125.
Since TVS had trademarked the Fiero 125 moniker in November last year, we believe the possibilities of the new-gen Caliber getting powered by the 125cc unit is high. A 115.45cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine derived from Platina 110 puts out 8.5 bhp at 7000rpm and a peak torque of 9.81 Nm at 5000rpm.
The 124cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve SOHC unit powered the entry-level Pulsar 125. This unit delivers an output of 12 bhp at 8500rpm and a peak torque of 11Nm at 7000rpm. Both these units are paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Details at the moment are very scarce. It will be interesting to see which way does the Chakan-based manufacturer opts for. More

Bajaj PulsarIn the current norms of the auto industry, Bajaj Auto has hiked prices of almost all the models across its lineup
The price increment is in the range of Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000. This is in contradiction to its recent move to slash prices of Dominar 250 by Rs 16,800. The quarter-litre tourer is now offered at a price of Rs 1.54 lakh (ex-showroom).
Most of the other models have faced hikes in their respective prices. This includes Pulsar and Avenger range of models as well. The company’s current flagship model Dominar 400 has also witnessed a price increment of nearly Rs 5,000 and the tourer is now offered at a price of Rs 2.07 lakh (ex-Delhi).
Pulsar Price Hike
Three models of the Pulsar range have experienced a price hike recently. Pulsar NS160 and NS200 have seen hikes of around Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively. This means the naked streetfighter siblings are now offered at respective sticker prices of Rs 1.14 lakh and Rs 1.39 lakh.
On the other hand, Pulsar RS200 is now Rs 5,000 more expensive than before and will now be available at Rs 1.62 lakh. This makes it more expensive than Dominar 250. All prices are ex-showroom.

Pulsar NS160 is powered by a 160cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine and returns an output of 17.03 bhp and a peak torque of 14.6 Nm. This unit is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The Pulsar 200 siblings- NS200 and RS200, are powered by a 199.5cc fuel-injected, four-valve, liquid-cooled motor that pumps out 24.2 bhp and 18.7 Nm of peak torque. Both models are offered with a 6-speed gearbox.

Avenger Price Hike
Avenger range of cruiser motorcycles is available in two derivatives- 160 Street and 220 Cruise. The former is now dearer by Rs 4,000 and is priced at Rs 1.08 lakh. Whereas the latter is now offered at a sticker price of Rs 1.32 lakh after an increment of Rs 4,000. Both prices are ex-showroom. Other than their prices, none of the motorcycles have been offered with any kind of updates.
Avenger Street 160 is powered by the same 160.4cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected motor produces 14.8 bhp and 13.4Nm of peak torque. This engine is linked with a 5-speed transmission.
Avenger Cruise 220, on the other hand, is propelled by a 220cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled, twin-spark, SOHC motor that cranks out 18.7bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 17.5Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. This unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox as well. More

Bajaj, like most other auto manufacturers, is currently on a spree to increase prices of its products. After recently hiking the prices of the Pulsar range of motorcycles, the homegrown bikemaker has now updated the prices of its Dominar 250. But instead of increasing, they have reduced the price by as much as Rs 17k approx.
Dominar Revised Prices
This is the third price revision that Dominar 250 has recorded this year after the first increment in January. After the last price revision, Dominar 250 and Dominar 400 were available at Rs 1.70 lakh and Rs 2.02 lakh respectively (both prices ex-showroom). Now after the price reduction of Dominar 250, its price is now slashed to 1.54 lakh. No such luck if you are planning to buy Dominar 400.
Apart from the change in price, there have been no changes as far as design or performance is concerned. What has changed is that the number of colour options on offer has now reduced to 2, instead of 4 for the Dominar 250. D250 is now only offered with Red or Black colours.
Dominar 400 Touring Edition
Latest spy shots shared by IamaBiker show the Dominar 400 updated with touring accessories. These spy shots were clicked inside Bajaj Auto’s Pune plant where they also have a test track. As per these spy photos, Dominar 400 will get larger flyscreen, knuckle guards finished in body colour while upper part which is bolted on, is finished in same black plastic as the flyscreen.

It is likely that these are optional additions that Bajaj is planning to launch for their customers. If that is the case, it is likely that existing buyers of both Dominar 250 and Dominar 400 will be able to install these. If Bajaj is planning to launch this as a special Dominar Touring edition, than these accessories will be exclusive to this edition only.
Mechanical Specs
Moving to specifications, Dominar 400 is powered by the same 373.3cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine that also powers KTM 390 range of motorcycles. This motor kicks out 39.4 bhp at 8,650rpm and 35 Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm while being paired with a six-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch.
Dominar 250, on the other hand, shares its powertrain with KTM 250 and Husqvarna 250 series of motorcycles. This 248cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit is capable of generating 26.6 bhp at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 23.5Nm at 6,500rpmThis motor is also mated to the same 6-speed gearbox as its 400cc sibling.
Both motorcycles also share the same beam type perimeter frame, however, suspension setup is slightly different. While Dominar 250 uses telescopic forks at front, Dominar 400 gets USD forks at front from the KTM range. Rear suspension of both models comprise a mono-shock unit. Stopping duties on both bikes are handled by disc brakes on both wheels assisted by dual-channel ABS as standard. Bajaj also recently updated the prices of its Pulsar range of motorcycles.

Bajaj is expected to launch the new Pulsar 250 in the festive season later this year competing against other quarter-litre roadsters
Bajaj is developing a new 250cc iteration of Pulsar. This motorcycle could actually become a reality sooner than expected, as the homegrown brand has teased an upcoming motorcycle on its social media platform. It is likely that this could be the upcoming quarter-litre Pulsar.
The latest post uploaded by Bajaj shows an image of a motorcycle hidden behind a flurry of smoke with a caption that read, “Can you guess the newest street machine?”. This could also be a marketing gimmick from the bikemaker and could easily be the latest entrant to the Pulsar family- NS125. The black alloy wheels with white rim stickers along with white accents on engine guard back this claim.
Pulsar 250- Expected Design & Features
Previously, a testing prototype spotted was the naked roadster version of Pulsar 250 which will probably wear the branding of ‘NS’. There is also going to be a faired version with the same mechanical setup onboard which is likely to wear the ‘RS’ branding.
As seen in earlier spy shots, the upcoming bike gets a muscular fuel tank with extended shrouds and bikini fairing. Other notable highlights include an upswept side exhaust, an upright tail section and a split seat setup. Overall body proportions look evidently larger than NS200.
Bajaj Pulsar NS 250 Teaser?
It could feature an all-LED lighting setup and an all-digital instrument console with a full-colour display and Bluetooth connectivity. Bajaj is also expected to offer smartphone connectivity tech in the upcoming bike. This new Pulsar could feature an all-new 250cc motor and will be underpinned by a new platform.
Expected Mechanical Specs
The upcoming Pulsar 250 is likely to be based on a new platform different from the one used in Dominar 250 and KTM 250 Duke. It will draw its energy from a new 248.9cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. Power and torque outputs are likely to range between Pulsar 220F and Dominar 250. This unit will be linked to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch on offer.
Hardware setup of the bike will comprise telescopic forks at front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at rear. Braking will be taken care of by disc brakes on both wheels while safety net will be provided by a dual-channel ABS.
The new Pulsar 250 could be hitting showrooms later this year, before the onset of the festive season. Bajaj will pitch the new Pulsar 250 as a premium sporty commuter offering and will be competing against Yamaha FZ25 and FZS25, Suzuki Gixxer 250, KTM Duke 250 and its own sibling Dominar 250. More

Bajaj Auto Limited has released their sales reports for June 2021. It may be seen from the attached table that YoY sales increased substantially despite the ongoing pandemic situation in the country while YTD sales also surged both across domestic and export markets,
YoY 2 Wheeler and CV Sales
Bajaj Auto has reported sales to the tune of 3,46,136 units in June 21, up 24 percent over sales of 2,78,097 units of June 20. Sales increase was seen in the case of two wheeler sales and commercial vehicles. In domestic markets, two wheeler sales which had stood at 1,46,695 units in June 20, increased by 6 percent to 1,55,640 in the past month. Dominating sales in domestic markets were Pulsar, CT100, Platina, Avenger, Dominar, etc.
Exports on the other hand, noted a more significant increase by 43 percent to 1,54,938 units in June 21, up from 1,08,427 units shipped in the same month of the past year. This took total sales in this segment to 3,10,578 unit, up 22 percent over 2,55,122 units sold in June 20.
Bajaj Auto’s total commercial vehicle sales in June 2021 increased 55 percent to 35,558 units from 22,975 units, YoY. In domestic markets, the company sold 6,196 units, up 38 percent over 4,494 units sold in June 20 while exports increased 59 percent to 29,362 units in the past month, up from 18,481 units exported in June 20.

Domestic sales of two wheelers and commercial vehicles combined took totals to 1,61,836 units, up 7 percent over 1,51,189 units sold in June 20. Exports increased 45 percent YoY to 1,84,300 units last month, over 1,26,908 units shipped in June 20. Total YoY sales increased 24 percent to 3,46,136 units in June 21, up from 2,78,097 units sold in June 20.
YTD 2 Wheeler and CV Sales
Taking the period April 21 to June 21 into account, total sales (2 wheeler and CV) increased 127 percent to 10,06,014 units up from 4,43,103 units of the same period in 2020. However, it may be kept in mind that auto markets in general were at an all-time low during that period.
Bajaj Auto noted YTD growth across both segments, 2 wheeler and commercial vehicles and across domestic sales and exports. In domestic markets, two wheeler sales increased 84 percent from 1,85,981 units sold in the April-June 20 period to 3,42,552 units sold in the same period of the current year. Exports on the other hand surged 160 percent to 5,56,753 units in the April-June 21 period, taking total sales in this segment to 8,99,305 units, up 125 percent from 3,99,929 units sold in April-June 20.

Commercial vehicle domestic sales increased 176 percent YTD to 14,585 units as against 5,282 units sold in April-June 20, while exports jumped 143 percent to 92,124 units from 37,892 units shipped in the same three month period of the previous year.
