Bajaj CT100 Motorcycle Discontinued – Production Stopped

The CT100 was Bajaj Auto’s most affordable product at a priced of around INR 54k (ex-showroom, Delhi)Ryt 2 KnowAfter soldiering on for several years without any major changes, Bajaj’s most affordable commuter workhorse CT100 has finally been put to rest. The Pune-based firm has reportedly stopped the 100 cc low-cost motorcycle’s production earlier this month and the dealers have stopped receiving fresh stocks. The move to discontinue the CT100 is likely due to gradual shift in the customer preference towards its slightly upmarket and retro-styled CT110X sibling. Prices of the CT110X range starts from about Rs 65k, ex-sh Delhi.Bajaj CT100 at a glanceWhile the CT100 did have a long life, registering decent sales for Bajaj Auto in the process, it never came close to dethroning the venerable Hero Splendor Plus which continues to be the best selling motorcycle in the country for decades. To recap, the Bajaj CT100 was a textbook Indian budget commuter motorcycle which employed a simple tubular frame. Suspension setup was composed of conventional telescopic front forks and SNS (Spring-in-Spring) twin rear shock absorbers. Being a no-frills mobility solution, the CT100 made do with front and rear drum brakes but it did come with black alloy wheels. The 102 cc air-cooled engine was paired with a 4-speed gearbox to put out a modest 7.8 hp and 8.3 Nm of torque.Bajaj CT 110 XThe Indian 100 cc commuter segment is all about cut-throat competition and the fact that the Bajaj CT100 managed to stay afloat is a testament to its value-for-money quotient, longevity and excellent fuel efficiency. Along with its sister model Platina, the CT100 is known to deliver a mileage of over 70 kmpl. The price point of INR 53,696 ex-showroom, Delhi, is indeed attractive for the customer but with the rising input costs, Bajaj probably found it difficult to keep things reasonably profitable. As of now, there is no news of the Bajaj CT100 being replaced as a new 100 cc cost effective commuter. So the company’s range now starts from the Platina 100 but, we won’t be surprised if Bajaj pulls the plug on it as well. At the time of writing this article, the official website of Platina 100 had prices starting from Rs 61,152, ex-sh.Nothing Stops Hero SplendorWhile the Indian commuter motorcycle segment accounts for a significantly large volume of the overall market, Hero MotoCorp has been enjoying an unassailable lead over the competitors, leaving very little for the rest of them to scoop up. This scenario makes it less lucrative for a two wheeler OEM to go after this segment.Save for Bajaj and TVS, pretty much every other player gave up and moved on to other attractive sub-segments. The discontinuation of CT100 only improves things for the segment king Splendor Plus. It is remarkable how the iconic nameplate continues to be a cash cow with hardly any design changes since the beginning. Honda is working on a new motorcycle to take on the Splendor, maybe Bajaj too is thinking on similar lines to take on the No 1 motorcycle of the world. More

Bajaj Blade Name Trademark Filed – New Electric Scooter?

Trademark application for Bajaj Blade was filed in March and is currently under evaluation from registration authorityImage for referenceWith eyes on the future, Bajaj is proactively working on multiple new products. Evidence to that can be seen in the trademark applications filed by the company in recent times. In March, two applications were filed for Pulsar Elan and Pulsar Eleganz. Now, another name ‘Bajaj Blade’ has emerged, which was also filed in March. While Pulsar Eleganz name has been approved, Pulsar Elan and Bajaj Blade are awaiting approval.Bajaj Blade electric scooter?Trademark application for Bajaj Blade has been filed under Class 12. This makes it difficult to make an accurate guess, as this class includes everything from motorcycles to scooters, electric vehicles and three wheelers.Based on recent developments, it can be said that Bajaj’s primary focus will be its Pulsar motorcycles and electric two-wheelers. The company is currently on a mission to upgrade its Pulsar range and also introduce some new models. Another focus area is electric two-wheelers, which is where Bajaj Blade seems to fit in most appropriately. As may be recalled, Bajaj Blade name was used by the company to showcase a 125cc scooter at 2006 Auto Expo. This increases the possibility that Bajaj Blade could be a modern interpretation of the earlier Blade scooter. Bajaj Blade electric scooter is likely to have sportier styling, targeted at younger audiences. It will be different from Chetak, which has the classic, old-school retro look and feel.Bajaj Blade Trademark RegisteredInterestingly, the name Blade belongs to Mahindra Two Wheelers. Bajaj had applied for Blade trademark back in 2006 as well, but was refused. They have now once again applied in 2022. While the trademark application has been filed, it is not certain exactly when Bajaj Blade will be seen in flesh and blood. If it’s an electric scooter, launch is unlikely before 2023 or even 2024.To make it appealing to young users who prefer style and performance, Bajaj could equip the Blade electric scooter with a larger battery pack and higher capacity motor. This would mean an even higher pricing than Chetak, which is already one of the costliest electric two-wheelers in the country. Chetak ex-showroom price in Delhi is currently Rs 1.48 lakh.Bajaj Blade commuter bike?Even though Bajaj Blade is more likely to be an electric scooter, the possibility of a new commuter bike cannot be completely ruled out. One of the main reasons being, Bajaj had said that their electric vehicles will be branded under Chetak, and not Bajaj. Considering that the trademark filed is Bajaj Blade, it is likely that this could not be an electric vehicle.Bajaj currently sells Platina and CT commuter bikes in the domestic market, which are among the most affordable in this segment. These continue to register consistent sales for the company. Platina was ranked in the top ten list of bestselling two wheelers in FY 2022 with sales of 5,75,847 units. However, Bajaj’s commuter portfolio looks jaded even though the bikes have received updates at regular intervals. A brand new commuter bike can infuse fresh blood to boost sales further. In the past, Bajaj had used funky names like XCD 125, Wind 125 and Byk for its commuter motorcycles. As the ‘Blade’ name also seems eccentric, it could be a new commuter bike from Bajaj. More

Bajaj Electric Scooter Lineup To Expand – Under Chetak, Yulu Brands

Upcoming electric two-wheelers from Bajaj will be based on the Chetak platform and technologyBajaj Testing New Electric Scooter. Image – Tushar PawarAfter securing a win in the form of Chetak electric scooter, Bajaj Auto is looking to expand its EV lineup in the next few years. A test mule of Chetak based electric scooter has already been spied on test near the company plant in Pune.It should be noted that Bajaj created a separate business arm for electric two-wheelers called Chetak Technology that will spearhead their new EV expansion. As of now, the Chakan-based manufacturer has only one two-wheeler offering in the electric mobility space in the form of Chetak.Bajaj Electric Scooter Lineup ExpansionBajaj intends to add new products in the low- and mid-speed segments in association with the Yulu brand. For the uninitiated, Yulu is an EV manufacturing company that saw investment from Bajaj a few years ago. While Bajaj has revealed plans, it is yet to reveal any specific details regarding upcoming electric scooters. However, it is likely that the upcoming e-scooter could be based on the Chetak platform. As of now, Chetak is available only in a few cities and Bajaj wants to expand availability of the electric scooter to at least 100 centres in the next few years. However, there are various challenges related to supply chain issues that are posing a hindrance to this expansion.Bajaj Chetak Electric ScooterChallenges Faced by OEMsIrregularities in supply chain in the past two years have mostly been caused due to two major factors- shortage of semiconductor chips and Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to these, the Russia-Ukraine war has also contributed to global economic fallout. Sharma conceded that given the current scenario, it would take at least 12-18 months before normalcy is restored.Bajaj is working on addressing supply chain issues since the supply chain is unable to keep up with rising demand. However, the biggest impact has been created by total cost of ownership for EVs which makes it harder for consumers to switch from conventional IC engine models to battery-powered models. This has also led to an impact on the cost of cells that make up the battery pack.High Price of EVsOperating cost of EVs is primarily driven by initial ownership cost of batteries which is very high as of now. To counter this, the Government of India is looking to establish cell manufacturing facilities within the country to bring down production costs of batteries and in turn, result in lowering of prices for EVs.Bajaj Auto has its presence in over 70 countries and around 50 percent of the company’s business comes from there. There are various levels of EV penetration in these countries and the company is looking to mark its presence there as well. Bajaj believes that 30-40 percent of overall two-wheeler sales will come from EVs in the next 5-7 years. More

2023 Bajaj Pulsar N160 Spied Testing For The First Time

Bajaj is taking a top-down approach for the new range of Pulsar models, the next model in this lineup is expected to be a 180-200cc bike2023 Bajaj Pulsar N160Bajaj Pulsar is an aspirational brand of sporty commuter motorcycles. Strong performance backed by affordability is one of its key universal selling points. These are more than a few reasons why this motorcycle range continues to be a rage even after two decades in the market.Currently, Bajaj is in a rebuilding phase and is trying to reinvent the Pulsar series by introducing some new models under its belt. The first in this revamped lineup is Pulsar 250 twins- N250 and F250 that was launched late last year. The company confirmed that it will be launching more new models under the Pulsar moniker in the coming future.New Bajaj Pulsar Spotted- Is it Pulsar N160?Recently, a new test mule of a Pulsar motorcycle was spotted outside Pune which was speculated to be the new-gen Bajaj Pulsar 125. The prototype was under heavy camouflage and did not divulge any specific details of the upcoming bike. Now, another Bajaj Pulsar has been spied testing without any camouflage this time around.Reports indicate that it could be a Pulsar with a smaller engine displacement, most probably a new Pulsar 160. The test mule that had been spotted in Pune, looked very similar to the new Pulsar N250. Hence, the new 160cc naked streetfighter will be based on the all-new Pulsar N250 platform and could replace the current Pulsar NS160 in future.2023 Bajaj Pulsar N1602023 Bajaj Pulsar N160Headlight cowl of the test mule is a fitting image of the naked quarter-litre Pulsar. It features projector LED headlight flanked by twin eyebrows-shaped LED DRLs just like Pulsar N250. While indicators on this new prototype are bulb units, split tail lamps consist of LED internals. It receives a contoured split-seat setup with a raised tail section and split grab rails.Like N250, this new testing prototype receives a single-piece handlebar which should ensure comfortable and upright ergonomics. The motorcycle is built on the same chassis as the 250cc Pulsars, so it gets the same frame, telescopic front fork, and a rear mono-shock. Even body panels appear to be borrowed from the new generation quarter-litre Pulsars.Expected SpecsIn all probability, Bajaj will be employing a brand new engine with a construction similar to that of N250 and F250. The current NS160 is powered by a 160cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that pumps out 17.03 bhp and 14.6 Nm of peak torque. The new engine will be richer in torque and even comes with a kick-starter which is a rare feature these days.2023 Bajaj Pulsar N160It appears to ride on 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with MRF rubber with a slightly thicker profile at rear. Braking duties are carried out by disc brakes at both ends that will be complemented by single-channel ABS. Although no specific launch timeline has been confirmed yet, the next model under the new range of Pulsar could hit markets by end of this year or in early 2023.Source More

They already have Dominar 250 on offer. They also sell 250cc motorcycles under their KTM and Husqvarna brand. But it was under the Pulsar brand that Bajaj managed to register this new sales milestone. Pulsar is a strong brand name which has a great market presence. This makes one wonder, would the sales story for their Dominar 400 brand be different, if it had been launched under the Pulsar name?Mr. Sarang Kanade, President of Motorcycle Business – Bajaj Auto, said, “The all-new Pulsar 250 has been conceptualised with the single-minded purpose of injecting ‘Unadulterated Thrill’ into everyday riding. We are very pleased with the response from young riders across the country, who love the new-age form. We are conducting a series of Thrill-ology rides, passing through the length & breadth of India showcasing how the Pulsar 250 is the perfect entry sport bike in Indian conditions; and the response across all locations has been overwhelming. The new Gloss Blue colour scheme also covers a larger surface area extending to the front cowl and side fairing. It also makes its way onto the fuel tank, front fender and engine cowl going on to the rear tail section. The rest of the bike is in a contrasting shade of black. Its sporty appeal is further enhanced by decals on the front and sides.Pulsar N250 and F250 – Features, SpecsFeatures continue to include LED headlight and LED tail-lamps along with LED DRLs and LED turn indicators. The engine gets mated to a constant mesh 5 speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch. Suspension is via 37mm telescopic forks in the front and Nitrox monoshock suspension at rear while braking duties are handled by disc brakes measuring 300mm front and 230mm rear with single-channel ABS. 2023 Bajaj Pulsar 125cc Spied For First Time – New Platform

With the new generation of Pulsar, Bajaj Auto has taken a top-down approach with the flagship Pulsar 250 launching first followed by other smaller Pulsars2023 Bajaj Pulsar 125ccBajaj Auto took its first steps towards bringing a new revolution in its lineup when it introduced the flagship models of the new generation Pulsar models. Launched in Oct last year, the new Pulsar 250 twins- N250 and F250, are the first of the many new-gen Pulsars expected to be seen in the market in the coming few months.During the launch of Pulsar 250 last year, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto, had confirmed that the company will be introducing smaller displacement models of Pulsar based on this new generation platform. Test mules of smaller displacement new-gen Pulsars have been reportedly caught in cameras for the first time.Clicked somewhere on the outskirts of Pune, the lone spy image reveals the interesting new details about the upcoming 2023 Bajaj Pulsar 125. The test mule flaunts a street naked design, just like Pulsar N250 and hence there are many styling resemblances with the latter.2023 Bajaj Pulsar 125cc – Styling DetailsIt gets a similar styled muscular fuel tank, but smaller in size. Headlamp design also matches that of its quarter-litre siblings. The headlamp cluster also features similar integrated Wolf-eyed LED position lamps. Other common design elements could include a sharp tail section and single-piece seating.Bajaj is also working on new gen Pulsar 150, Pulsar 200. Image – YoutubeSpeaking about specs, the current Pulsar 125, it is likely to get an air-cooled 4 strong single cylinder engine. Power and torque output could be in a similar range as the current Pulsar 125 – 11.8 PS and 10.8 Nm. The engine is likely to be updated, to deliver better response and higher fuel efficiency. Bajaj has also registered two new names – Pulsar Elan and Pulsar Eleganz.New Gen Pulsar 150, Pulsar 2002023 Pulsar 150 will be powered by an updated version of the same 149.5cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected motor powering the current model. In its current avatar, this motor pushes out 13.8 bhp and 13.4 Nm of peak torque and comes paired with a 5-speed gearbox.Specifications of Pulsar 200 are more ambiguous since the current Pulsar NS200 and RS200 are powered by a 199.5cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine derived from KTM. In its current form, this motor kicks out 24 bhp and a peak torque of 18.5 Nm and is linked with a 6-speed gearbox. Will Bajaj go with this powertrain or develop a simpler oil-cooled mill as it did with Pulsar 250 twins is a critical point of discussion. As far as hardware is concerned, Pulsar 200 appears to receive the same configuration as its quarter-litre sibling with 37mm front forks and a mono-shock at rear. Pulsar 150, on the other hand, gets slimmer 33mm forks at front and probably the same mono-shock at rear. More specifications are expected to come to light in the next few months.New-gen Pulsar 250Apart from the styling and riding ergonomics, Pulsar N250 and Pulsar F250 are identical to each other in every manner. Both are powered by a brand new 249cc single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine which pumps out 24.1 bhp and a peak torque of 21.5 Nm. This motor is paired with a 5-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch.Source More
