Bajaj Dynamo Name Registered – New Motorcycle Or Electric Scooter?

Earlier also, Bajaj had registered other names such as Pulsar Elan, Pulsar Eleganz, Twinner and BladeBajaj registers the name DYNAMOWhile OEMs register new names quite regularly, not every nameplate reaches production stage. It’s a good strategy nonetheless, as there’s no last moment scramble for a catchy brand name. OEMs often register multiple brand names, so that they can choose the most appropriate option when product development and production plans are finalized.Talking about Bajaj, the latest addition is Dynamo. While the name has reached the stage of ‘formalities check pass’, it has not received final approval. The name has been registered under Class 12, which covers ICE two-wheelers, electric vehicles as well as three-wheelers.Bajaj Dynamo – possible optionsThe term ‘Dynamo’ is commonly associated with a device that converts rotational mechanical energy into electrical energy. Since it refers to electricity, it is possible that Bajaj Dynamo has to do something with an electric vehicle. However, in terms of how products get their names, Dynamo doesn’t come across as a suitable name. It will be more relevant if used for a component or system, for example, a new ICE platform or EV powertrain. Class 12 of patent registration covers all such possibilities.Dynamo is also used to describe something energetic and spirited, for example, an energetic individual. In that sense, Bajaj Dynamo nameplate may be used for any type of vehicle, irrespective of the type of powertrain. It could be used for a new electric commercial vehicle, meant for B2B and B2C deliveries. It could be an electric three-wheeler as well.Bajaj Cruiser Motorcycle RenderAs not much info is available at this point of time, it is difficult to say what exactly Bajaj has planned for Dynamo nameplate. Moreover, there are no recent sightings of any new vehicle that could potentially be linked to this new name. Overall, it can be said that there’s a greater probability of Dynamo related to an electric vehicle.Upcoming Bajaj bikesIn the coming years, Bajaj will continue to focus on both its ICE and EV portfolio. Surely, more efforts are needed on the EV front, as currently Bajaj has only Chetak electric scooter. Bajaj is currently working with Yulu on the development of an entirely new EV that is expected to be launched later this year. This will not be sold in retail market like Chetak. It will be utilized exclusively by Yulu for its technology-driven mobility platform. For consumers, Bajaj has plans to expand Chetak portfolio to include new products as well as new sub-brands. For example, there are plans to launch Pulsar electric motorcycles. Bajaj is also working with KTM and Husqvarna for development of their electric two-wheelers.As Chetak has proved its mettle in domestic market, Bajaj is planning to launch it in overseas markets as well. ASEAN markets could be targeted first, as they have higher sales of electric two-wheelers. More

1993 Bajaj Chetak Scooter Restored To Full Glory – Old Vs Modified

At the time of its launch, Bajaj Chetak was one of the most powerful petrol scooters in IndiaOld Bajaj Chetak Scooter ModifiedThe current generation of millennials would resonate with an electric scooter when they hear the name Bajaj Chetak. But there is a large section of auto fanatics as well as mass consumers who would go back in time to the original petrol sipping Chetak. The two-stroke engine-powered scooter was no less than a revolution in India.First launched in the country way back in 1972, Chetak remained in production till 2005. Its design was originally based on Vespa Sprint but was later replaced by an all-new in-house design that shared a similar general appearance and style. During the peak of its popularity, this scooter had a waiting period that stretched to almost ten years.Restored Chetak 12 Volt ElectronicA 1993-produced model of Chetak has been restored by a person from Kerala. The restoration process has been discussed in detail in a video uploaded by MUNDODI VLOGS on YouTube. The video features a 12 Volt Electronic variant of the OG Chetak which was powered by a 145.45cc, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine that produced 7.5 bhp at 5500rpm and a peak torque of 10.8 Nm at 3500rpm.Prior to its restoration, the Chetak in discussion was in poor condition as rust had crept into most components of the scooter. For starters, the scooter rolls on 10-inch steel wheels shod with a 100/90 profile of tyres. The wheel rims, wheel hubs and front spring have been chrome plated that lends the scooter a retro charm.[embedded content][embedded content]Further, chrome-plated protective guard rails have been added to the front mudguard as well as the rear side panels. More chrome usage can be seen in the form of custom linings on the front fender and a stainless steel plate attached to the horn grille. Further, the rubber mats on the floorboard have been replaced by aluminium plating with proper drain holes to avoid rusting. An aftermarket side chrome-plated side stand has been added to the scooter which further accentuates its vintage appearance on it. The spare wheel which is normally found at the rear has been moved to the front glove area in order to provide a clean and sleek look to the tail section. As we can see, the engine is mounted on the right side of the scooter and the removable body panel comes with an aftermarket chrome plate for ventilation. It comes with a traditional split seat setup with a spring-loaded front seat for the rider. To add a fresh appeal, the scooter has been given a paint job and is now wrapped in a deep blue shade.Old Bajaj Chetak Scooter – Old vs ModifiedRestored EngineRestoration of the engine has also been done since rust had crept into the powertrain as well. Major components like the cylinder and piston head have been changed. Further, the engine cover has been plated with stainless steel and the entire engine has been powder coated with Zinc to avoid rusting. Also, a new carburettor has been added for a better air-fuel mixture. More

Here is a look at the two motorcycles together.Bajaj Pulsar N160 Vs Pulsar N250If you look at both these motorcycles in a passing glance, you would be hard-pressed to say which is which. This is because they look very similar. Both motorcycles get the same body panels. They get the same fuel tank with 14 litre capacity, same handlebar, same headlight setup with bi-LED projector, same instrument console, same set of features and functionalities too. Both motorcycles even get the same 300mm front (except for 280mm on single-channel ABS variant) and 230mm rear discs and calipers, same 37mm front telescopic suspension (except for 31mm on single-channel ABS variant) and rear mono-shock, they get the same 17” alloy wheels with 100/80 tyre at front and 130/70 at the rear. Take a look at the side by side comparison of these two Pulsar motorcycles in the video below by SouRik Motoworld.[embedded content][embedded content]So, that’s it then? Let’s wrap up this post? No. Because we’re yet to come to the heart of the matter. Because in their beating and pulsating heart, they prominently differ. Like their name suggests, N250 falls in the quarter-litre segment and N160 falls in the 160cc segment. It gets oil cooling with a bigger radiator than N160 and Bajaj’s trademark DTS-i and Twin Spark technology too.Price & CompetitionApart from the heart, we can see some more changes mechanically. Pulsar N160 gets an underbelly exhaust and Pulsar N250 gets a conventional exhaust. It has a dual-barrel design incorporated in a stubby canister. Pulsar N250’s sound is a lot louder and has a lot of growl and bass due to a bigger chamber for resonance.Bajaj Pulsar N160 vs N250 – Specs and PriceOther changes include LED indicators on Pulsar N250 and normal halogen bulbs on N160. N250 also gets an engine temperature sensor and the instrument cluster has an overheating indication too which Pulsar N160 lacks. In terms of pricing, Pulsar N160 starts from Rs. 1.22 lakh for single-channel ABS and Rs. 1.27 lakh for dual-channel ABS model. It takes the fight to Apache RTR 160 4V and the likes (both prices ex-sh).Pulsar N250, however, starts from Rs. 1.43 lakh for single-channel ABS model and Rs. 1.50 lakh for dual-channel ABS model and competes with lower-tier 250cc bikes where FZ25 and the likes lie.
