Bajaj Sales July 2023In terms of sales patterns, Bajaj sales July 2023 saw gains in domestic market in CV space, while other segments suffered slightlyWith immense popularity both here in India and in global markets, Bajaj Auto is one of the most important automakers in the world. The company specialises in both PV and CV sales across both 2W and 3W vehicles.For the month of July 2023, Bajaj saw sales numbers plummeting both YoY and MoM. Last month, Bajaj sold 1,41,990 units of 2W vehicles in the domestic market. Which is down by 14% YoY as opposed to 1,64,384 units sold in July 2022. 2W domestic sales went down by over 24K units MoM as opposed to June 2023.Bajaj Sales July 2023 – YoYBajaj Sales July 2023The company exported 1,26,850 units last month but saw 16% drop YoY as it shipped 1,50,670 units a year ago. In total, Bajaj sold 2,68,850 2W vehicles both here in India and abroad. Because of decline in numbers, Bajaj saw 15% drop in sales YoY in total 2W vehicles.Where CVs are concerned, Bajaj sold 37,273 units in India and sales doubled with 101% YoY growth. The company even exported 13,634 CVs, which registered a 35% drop YoY. Because of large headroom in CV sales in the domestic market, Bajaj saw an overall 29% YoY growth with CVs.Bajaj Sales July 2023 – YTDIf we take Bajaj’s sales collectively (2W PV+CV), Bajaj pushed 1,79,263 units in domestic market and shipped 1,40,848 units abroad. In total (domestic + exports), Bajaj sold 3,19,747 units. With this, Bajaj registered a 2% YoY drop in domestic market and 18% YoY drop in global markets. In total, Bajaj saw a 10% drop in sales YoY.YTD SalesFrom April 2023 to July 2023, Bajaj sold 6,84,921 units in domestic market, 4,73,249 units in export markets and 11,58,170 units in total (2W domestic + exports). In effect, Bajaj saw 43% YoY growth within 2W space in the domestic market, but exports saw 31% drop YoY.In total, Bajaj’s YTD sales in 2W space almost match last year’s with less than a 1% drop. Within CV space, Bajaj saw 1,35,898 units sold from April 2023 to July 2023 in the domestic market, 53,086 units in export markets and 1,88,984 units in total. Bajaj registered 138% YoY growth in domestic CV space and 23% YoY decline in CV exports.Because of the high growth in the domestic market, overall CV sales YTD saw 50% YoY growth. This was a YoY de-growth from 3,07,084 units sold in June 2022 relating to a volume decline by 25,499 units. While the company has posted increased sales in domestic markets with almost all models showing off a YoY growth, exports have fallen significantly with every model in the company lineup ending in the red.Total sales (domestic + exports) had stood at 2,97,733 units in May 2023. Bajaj Auto 2 wheeler sales in domestic markets stood at 1,60,410 units in June 2023 up 29.66 percent as against 1,23,719 units sold in June 2022. Currently commanding a 66.83 percent share on this list, the Pulsar was also at No. 3 on the list of top 10 best-selling motorcycles in June 2023 after the Hero Splendor and Honda Shine.In the Pulsar lineup, it was the Pulsar 125cc that garnered the most attention with 67,134 units sold last month, up 30.22 percent from 51,554 units sold in June 2022. Pulsar 150cc sales however dipped 2.05 percent to 16,628 units while Pulsar 200 and 250cc saw increased demand with 16,296 units and 7,150 units sold respectively.Bajaj Domestic 2W Sales Breakup June 2023Platina sales also increased 31.80 percent to 36,550 units in June 2023 from 27,732 units sold in the same month last year to command a 22.79 percent share on the company list. Sales increased by 186.76 percent YoY for Bajaj Chetak e-scooter to 7,080 units, up from 2,469 units sold in June 2022. CT sales also improved in domestic markets by 163.57 percent to 6,360 units in June 2023 from 2,413 units sold in June 2022 with 4,608 units of the 110cc variant and 1,752 units of CT125cc sold during the month.Bajaj Avenger sales dipped 70.07 percent YoY to 2,076 units, down from 6,936 units sold in June 2022 while Dominar sales improved by 154.71 percent to 1,136 units last month. Dominar 250cc and 500cc each had 509 units and 627 units sold respectively.Bajaj Auto Exports Led by Boxer in June 2023With every model in the company lineup posting YoY de-growth, exports of Bajaj Auto stood at 1,21,175 units in June 2023. This was a YoY de-growth of 33.92 percent when compared to 1,83,365 units sold in June 2022 relating to a 62,190 unit dip in volumes.Bajaj 2W Exports Breakup June 2023Bajaj Boxer commanded the list with 71,021 units shipped in June 2023, down 24.42 percent from 93,962 units exported in June 2022. The Boxer commanded a 58.61 percent share in the export list. Maximum demand was seen for the Boxer 110cc with 56,960 units shipped last month while there were also 7,587 units of the Boxer 125cc and 6,474 units of Boxer 150cc exported in June 2023. Pulsar exports dipped by 37.50 percent YoY to 25,130 units from 40,205 units exported in June 2022. This included 17,566 units of Pulsar 200cc, 3,270 units of Pulsar 250cc, 2,902 units of Pulsar 125cc and 1,392 units of Pulsar 150cc.Even as Bajaj CT exports dipped 47.55 percent YoY to 13,191 units from 25,152 units sold in June 2023, it saw increased demand for its 150cc model, exports of which improved 300 percent to 1,152 units in June 2023 from 288 units shipped in June 2022. Exports also fell for the Discover (5,024 units) and Dominar (4,736 units), Dominar 250cc saw increased demand by 9.94 percent to 2,190 units in June 2023 from 1,992 units sold in June 2022. Sales of two wheelers and commercial vehicles both in domestic markets and exports ended with negative growth of 2 percent down to 3,40,981 units in June 2023 from 3,47,004 units sold in June 2022. It was also a MoM de-growth when compared to total sales of 3,55,148 units sold in May 2023.Bajaj Auto has seen two wheeler sales (domestic + exports) dip 7 percent YoY in June 2023. Sales fell to 2,93,649 units in the past month, down from 3,15,948 units sold in June 2022. Sales stood at 33,691 units in the past month, up from 13,268 units sold in June 2022. Exports on the other hand, fell by 23 percent to 13,641 units, from 17,788 units shipped in June 2022. Total CV sales grew by 52 percent YoY to 47,332 units in June 2023 from 31,056 units sold in June 2022. With total (2W + CV) (domestic + exports) at 3,40,981 units in June 2023, it was a 2 percent YoY de-growth when compared to 3,47,004 units sold in June 2022.Bajaj Auto Sales June 2023 – YTD FYBajaj Auto YTD sales and exports April-June 2023On a Year to Date (YTD) basis, two wheeler sales saw a growth of 73 percent in domestic markets, up to 5,42,931 units in the YTD FY2023 period from 3,14,418 units sold in YTD FY2022. The company has seen a dip in demand for the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter in June 2023 since the Government of India decided to roll back FAME II subsidies from 40 percent to 15 percent.Exports on the other hand dipped by 35 percent to 3,46,399 units in the YTD FY2023 period from 5,32,740 units sold in the same period last year. Increased domestic sales caused total YTD sales in the segment to improve by 5 percent to 8,89,330 units.CV sales and exports stood at 1,38,077 units in YTD FY2023, up 60 percent from 86,488 units sold in the FY2022 period. It was a 157 percent growth in domestic sales to 98,625 units from 38,418 units while exports dipped 18 percent to 39,452 units in YTD FY2023 from 48,070 units shipped in the same period last year. Total sales (domestic + exports) stood at 2,97,733 units in May 2023. This was a growth of over 2,39,934 units sold in May 2022. Domestic sales improved by 102.27 percent to 1,89,526 units in May 2023 from 93,701 units sold in May 2022. Volume growth stood at 95,825 units. It was also a MoM growth from 1,76,512 units sold in April 2023.Bajaj Pulsar saw the highest sales in May 2023 with 1,28,403 units sold during the month. This was an 85.44 percent growth from 69,241 units sold in May 2022. The Pulsar range commands a 67.75 percent share in the company lineup.Bajaj Sales Breakup May 2023 – Pulsar at No. 1In this range, it was the Pulsar 125cc that received most attention with 87,071 units sold last month, relating to a 54.39 percent YoY growth from 56,396 units sold in May 2022. Pulsar 150cc sales grew by 187 percent YoY to 19,034 units from 6,632 units sold in May 2022 while Pulsar 200cc and Pulsar 250cc sales were at 16,155 units and 6,143 units respectively.Of the Platina, the company sold 42,154 units last month, a YoY growth of 143.16 percent from 17,336 units sold in May 2022. Sales of Chetak electric scooter improved by 261.95 percent YoY to 9,208 units from 2,544 units sold in May 2022 while it was a 386.48 percent YoY growth for the Bajaj CT with 6,115 units sold last month, over 1,257 units sold in May 2022.Bajaj sales breakup May 2023Bajaj Avenger also posted a YoY growth of 20.45 percent to 2,544 units last month of which the Avenger 200 accounted for 1,612 unit sales and the Avenger 250cc saw sales of 932 units. Dominar sales on the other hand dipped 9 percent YoY to 1,102 units from 1,211 units sold in May 2022 of which there were 519 units of Dominar 250cc sold relating to a YoY growth though there were only 583 units of Dominar 500cc sold down from 769 units sold in May 2022.Bajaj Boxer Dominate Export List in May 2023Bajaj Auto Exports in May 2023 fell by 26 percent YoY to 1,08,207 units from 1,46,233 units shipped in May 2022. This was a volume de-growth of 38,026 units. Every model in the list has posted YoY de-growth except for the Pulsar and Platina.Bajaj Boxer topped sales charts with 58,476 units shipped last month, down 31.43 percent over 85,282 units shipped in May 2022. The Boxer 125cc saw increased demand by 99.49 percent to 7,086 units up from 3,552 units shipped in May 2022 while exports of Boxer 150cc dipped by 24.95 percent to 11,048 units.Bajaj exports breakup May 2023Pulsar exports improved by 13.94 percent to 27,691 units in May 2023 with positive demand seen for Pulsar 200cc (15,883 units) and 250cc (3,774 units) but in the red for Pulsar 125cc (3,690 units) and 150cc (4,344 units). Bajaj CT exports fell by 28.52 percent to 13,656 units in May 2023 from 19,104 units sold in May 2022 while Dominar exports slipped by 6.91 percent to 3,314 units in the past month from 3,560 units shipped in May 2022.Positive YoY growth was also reported for the Bajaj Platina which was up 1.59 percent to 3,060 units from 3,012 units shipped in May 2022. Of the Platina range, it was the Platina 110cc that commanded the most attention with 2,580 units shipped last month while there had been only 480 units of Platina 125cc exported in the same month. The export list also included Bajaj Discover (1,984 units), down 81.09 percent from 10,492 units sold in May 2022. Towards that end, the company has registered new trademarks Bajaj Genie and Bajaj Swing.Some other names have also been registered such as Bajaj Badal and Bajaj Runner. Earlier this year in March, the company had registered three names – Bajaj Aura, Bajaj Racer and Bajaj Hammer.Bajaj Genie, Bajaj Swing – scooter or motorcycle?It is not clear what these new trademarks are meant for. While Bajaj Genie trademark application was filed in April 2023, Bajaj Swing was filed in May 2023. The current status of all these trademark applications is ‘Formalities Chk Pass’. This is essentially the primary stage of trademark approval process. The final stage of approval is when the status shows as ‘Registered’. For example, earlier names such as Bajaj Tecnica and Bajaj Technik have been registered and are valid up to 2032.Trademark name applications can take a long time to process. There can be objections from other parties, who may have the same or similar sounding trademark name. In some cases, the company itself may abandon some trademark applications. Due to these reasons, OEMs register multiple names in advance. These can be used as per requirement in future.Bajaj trademarks new names – Swing and GenieGoing by their name, Bajaj Genie and Bajaj Swing appear more like the name of scooters. It is possible that Bajaj may be looking to expand its electric scooter range. As of now, there’s only Chetak to take on rivals like Ola S1, TVS iQube and Ather 450X. If Bajaj can launch affordable electric two-wheelers, it can boost sales and grab a larger market share.With reduction in subsidy, many OEMs including Ola and Ather have introduced affordable variants of their scooters. Simple Energy will also be launching new affordable electric scooters in the next quarter.Could it be the names of 3-wheelers?It is also possible that Bajaj Genie and Bajaj Swing could be names of upcoming electric 3-wheelers / rickshaws. It is known that Bajaj is working on its first electric 3-wheeler. The company is the market leader in ICE 3-wheeler segment with market share of more than 70 percent. However, it is yet to launch an electric 3-wheeler. OEMs like Mahindra and Piaggio have taken a lead in this space.It is expected that Bajaj will launch its first electric rickshaw later this year.
