Bajaj Sunny EV Spotted Testing – Launch Soon?

Bajaj Sunny EV SpottedThe new upcoming Bajaj Sunny EV spotted testing has almost identical design and aesthetics of old ICE Sunny scooter sold in mid-90sWords scooter (ICE) and Bajaj don’t often go hand in hand in a sentence in recent past. Last ever scooter from Bajaj I could remember, is Kristal. Many have no recollection of Kristal too. That said, Bajaj used to make popular scooters in the past like Chetak and Sunny. Now that Chetak is resurrected in EV guise, Sunny EV resurrection is underway too, as seen from spy shots.Bajaj Sunny Scooter Spotted Testing – Back from the dead! The Indian 2W and 3W manufacturer, Bajaj Auto, has a diverse portfolio both here in India and abroad. With EV scene on the rise, Bajaj seems to be carving a niche for itself new entrants and mainstream bikemakers. The company currently has Chetak e-scooter which is getting a hub motor and is homologated too. There seems to be space for an entry-level e-scooter in Bajaj’s portfolio that may be filled by upcoming Sunny. Considering how old Bajaj Sunny is, there has to be a major design overhaul, right? Wrong. Bajaj seems to be playing nostalgia card or affordability card as upcoming Bajaj Sunny EV is almost identical to old Sunny (ICE scooter). The round headlights, minimal body panels, rectangular tail lights, 3-spoke steel wheels, slim and long seat, thin aprons and long front fender is reminiscent of Bajaj Sunny of the yesteryears. There are some differences, though. For starters, the spare wheel placed at the footwell is now replaced with a battery pack and rear wheel is swapped for a hub motor.Bajaj Sunny EV floorboard-mounted batteryThis is the first time Bajaj is testing an exposed and removable battery. Seeing how exposed the battery is, it wouldn’t fly in India when it goes on sale. This is likely to be a pre-production unit and production-spec model may get a concealed battery, taking up floorboard real estate. Side exhaust is gone and rear now gets a hub motor. Why though?Other tiny details that are different with this new test mule include conventional ORVMs instead of round ones of mid-90s Bajaj Sunny. Turn indicators are much sleeker and probably have LEDs too. Pillion grab rail is redesigned and still features a rack as well. Looking at this motorcycle, it would be a slow-speed scooter (top speed below 25 km/h).Bajaj Sunny EV – New Vs OldWe hope the front suspension setup has telescopic forks and not steel springs. More performance than the 3 bhp 60cc engine on old Bajaj Sunny would not be a stretch to imagine. But it begs the question of existence. Why is it under testing? Does Bajaj intend to launch it in India or just ship it to under-developed nations? It doesn’t make much sense as a last-mile-delivery application because of its floorboard-mounted battery setup. Speaking of last-mile-delivery applications, there is a very good chance of this being based on Yulu scooters too. Since this is the first-ever sighting of Bajaj Sunny EV, more test mules will follow in the future and reveal more details.Source More

Bajaj Pulsar N150 Launched At Rs. 1.17 Lakh – 3 Colours, New Features

Bajaj Pulsar N150 LaunchedThe new Bajaj Pulsar N150 is a combination of P150 and N160 motorcycles within the Pulsar lineup, offering best of both worldsPulsar line from Bajaj Auto has been one of the most popular and sought-after among motorcycling enthusiasts. Today, Bajaj has launched yet another Pulsar in India. This is the Pulsar N150 and is the third 150cc Pulsar in its portfolio. Bajaj has priced it at Rs. 1.17 lakh (ex-sh), which is in line with the segment considering Pulsar P150 starts from Rs. 1.17 lakh (ex-sh) for single disc single seat variant. Bajaj Pulsar N150 Launch SoonIf there is a motorcycle lineup that has the most models under one sub-brand, it has to be Bajaj’s Pulsar. Now, there are two 125cc Pulsars, three 150cc, two 160cc, one 200cc, one 220cc and two 250cc Pulsars. Bajaj has already confirmed launch of “biggest Pulsar” by the end of this financial year.Rushlane’s sources have confirmed 294cc engine displacement number for this “biggest Pulsar”. By the end of this financial year, Bajaj has confirmed six new Pulsar launches and Pulsar N150 is likely to be first of these six. New Pulsar N150 boasts an edgier and slightly more appealing design than Pulsar P150. There are three colour options on offer – Racing Red, Ebony Black and Metallic Pearl White. Pearl Metallic White shade resembles the one offered with Pulsar NS160. This is by far the best colour for Pulsar N range and we hope it makes it to Pulsar N160 and Pulsar N250 as well. Sticking to Bajaj’s core strategies, there is no design change with Pulsar N150 when compared to Pulsar N160. In a general way, one can surmise Pulsar N150 as the Pulsar N160 with Pulsar P150’s powertrain and wheels.[embedded content]One thing that Pulsar N150 seems to miss out on, is an option to choose a split seat and dual disc brake variant. Something which Pulsar P150 has on offer for Rs. 1.2 lakh (ex-sh). We would wager that Bajaj will introduce a twin disc with split seat variant with Pulsar N150 in the future if there is enough demand. Changes as opposed to Pulsar P150New Bajaj Pulsar N150 has similar headlights, body panels and fuel tank as Pulsar N160. Bi-LED projector headlight setup along with LED DRLs is slightly better than on Pulsar P150. Overall design is sharper and edgier too and fits the overall aggressive character that Bajaj is going for.Even though most design attributes are from Pulsar N160, wheels and tyres aren’t. New Pulsar N150 gets the same alloy wheels as Pulsar P150. But tyres are fatter than on Pulsar P150 with a 90-section width at front and a 120-section width at the rear.Pulsar N150 Racing Red and Pearl Metallic WhitePowertrain is similar to the one on Pulsar P150. This is a 149.68cc single-cylinder engine generating 14.29 bhp and 13.5 Nm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Attributes like USB phone charger, bezel-less semi-digital instrument cluster, single disc setup at both ends, single-channel ABS and underbelly exhaust are notable.Words from the manufacturerSarang Kanade, President – Motorcycles, Bajaj Auto said, “Twenty years ago, we launched the first Pulsar 150 cc motorcycle that shook up the entry-level sport biking segment and has been India’s largest selling 150cc since then. With the N150, Pulsar is back to rule the road in its biggest and boldest avatar. Its aggressive styling, segment-leading features, stellar on-road performance and an incredibly attractive price point make it a splendid value addition to the Pulsar family. Our goal is to make the joy of riding accessible to everyone, and this new bike is a testimony to that mission.” More

Bajaj Trademarks New Names – Zinger, Bomber, Elixir, Aura

Image for reference onlyThe newest additions for Bajaj trademark vault are Zinger, Bomber, Elixir and Aura and join the sea of other pending trademarksThe Indian 2W and 3W juggernaut, Bajaj Auto, has trademarked new names for use with its upcoming products. Bajaj is known to trademark quite a lot of names, but not all of them translate into products or names associated with a product. Recently, the company has bagged new names under its belt.Bajaj Trademarks New Names – New products for futureThe new names trademarked by Bajaj in the recent past are Zinger, Bomber, Elixir and Aura. Before speculating what the new names may turn into, these are a few old trademarks Bajaj has filed for – Neuron, Twinner, Eleganz, Vincent, Darkstar, Racer, Hammer, Swing, Genie, Freerider, Caliber, Twinner, Pulsar Elan, Pulsar Eleganz, Blade, Technik, Tecnica, Fluir, Fluor and many more to count. If we take a look at Bajaj’s trademark exercises in the past, these new names are likely to stay put for a long time. We say this because Bajaj has recently announced that it is going to launch six new Pulsar motorcycles. These will have Pulsar name and suffixes with letters and numbers, less probably words.Recent homologation of Chetak with hub motor still reveals the name “Chetak”. So, newly trademarked names Bomber, Zinger, Elixir, Aura along with all the other previous trademarks by Bajaj are less likely to see light in the immediate future. Some of these trademarks are proposed to be used in association with other trademarks as well. Only the Zinger name has been opposed, while others say “Accepted & Advertised”.Bajaj Bomber trademarkWhat to expect from the new names?Bajaj currently has a lot on their cards. Company MD Mr Rajiv Bajaj has divulged that there will be up to six new Pulsar motorcycles launching by the end of this financial year. This is because Bajaj wants to understand the growth and profitability of said products by next year. One of the focus will be on premium category which has seen a newfound demand. By premium segment, Mr Bajaj is referring to motorcycles that has powertrains generally displacing over 200cc. The price bracket for this segment is usually around Rs. 1.7 lakh mark.Along with that, segments housing 150cc to 200cc displacement motorcycles are of paramount importance too. Most of Bajaj’s efforts in the future may be curated in this space. Bajaj has divulged info regarding a 100cc CNG motorcycle as well. Launch timeline for this motorcycle might be 2024 or beyond.Bajaj Zinger trademarkAlso, a sequel for Chetak is awaited along with numerous new e-scooters for partner brands like KTM and Husqvarna. The new names Zinger, Bomber, Elixir and Aura can be anything from a new product like an ADV, a bigger cruiser, a scrambler and more. Or a variant of an existing motorcycle or a proprietary tech for any of the present or upcoming products. More

Bajaj Chetak Hub Motor Spied Testing – Base Trim Resurrected?

New Bajaj Chetak Hub Motor Model SpiedAs opposed to the swingarm-mounted BLDC motor setup on current model, Bajaj Chetak spotted testing had a PMS hub motorThe Chetak brand was resurrected by Bajaj Auto making it their only EV offering. Even in the EV guise, Chetak brand is one of the most popular among e-scooters. In June 2023, Bajaj sold over 7K units. To boost sales envelope further, Bajaj is likely to re-launch Base trim of Chetak with a hub motor. Testing for the same has commenced.Bajaj Chetak Spied Testing – Hub motor version more affordable? With the advent of more competition in the market, Bajaj is fettling with Chetak to make it more appealing. To boost sales and pose an attractive price point, Bajaj even slashed prices for Chetak recently. Previously, Chetak was on offer in Base and Premium trims costing Rs. 1.22 lakh and Rs. 1.52 lakh respectively (all prices ex-sh).With 2023 Chetak, Bajaj discontinued Base trim and slashed the prices of Premium trim by Rs. 22,00 down to Rs. 1.3 lakh (all prices ex-sh). A new Base trim could pose an appealing starting price of around Rs. 1.15 lakh (ex-sh). Bajaj intends to achieve this by replacing swingarm-mounted BLDC motor with a PMS hub motor.Bajaj has already homologated this setup in a single variant too. Weirdly, there were two Bajaj Chetak test mules spotted together and only one of them featured a hub motor. But homologation documents show just one variant. Both Base and Premium trim are likely to get the same hub motor setup or just Base. Or Bajaj could only offer Premium trim on sale.[embedded content]This should bring costs down along with making the whole setup less complicated and a wee bit lighter in weight. As per type-approval documents, this new hub motor has PMS architecture (Permanent Magnet Synchronous). There’s a new double-sided rear swingarm to hold this new hub motor as well.Changes opposed to current modelIn the document, peak power is mentioned as 42 kW, which could be a typo. Actual peak power might be 4.2 kW (5.63 bhp) along with rated power of 4 kW (5.36 bhp). Battery looks like the same unit which has 2.884 kWh of capacity (marketed as 2.9 kWh). Usable capacity is 2.489 kWh.Current Bajaj Chetak quotes a top speed of 63 km/h and the new upcoming hub motor model will touch 60 km/h. Because of how torque of a hub motor is measured, Bajaj will definitely quote a very high figure. Type-approval document mentions 108 km of claimed range, which reflects with range figures of current Chetak on sale.2023 Bajaj Chetak Homologated – Launch SoonApart from the new swingarm, there don’t seem to be any changes in componentry. Design looks identical between the new hub motor-equipped test mule and current Chetak on sale. Features like a full metal body, LED lighting, LCD digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, and OTA updates will remain on offer.Dimensions include 1894 mm length, 725 mm width, 1132mm height and 1330 mm wheelbase. New Bajaj Chetak will have a gross weight of 283 kg. Upcoming Chetak with hub motor could launch in 2024.Source More

Biggest Pulsar Likely To Get A New 294cc Engine – Is it Pulsar 300 ? (Scoop)

The new Bajaj Pulsar 300 will sit above the existing Pulsar 250s.All-new 300cc Pulsar will rival the likes of TVS Apache RTR 310 and BMW G310RRajiv Bajaj recently revealed that they are working on launching the biggest Pulsar motorcycle this financial year. It will be bigger than the existing flagship Pulsar 250 range. When asked, what will be the engine capacity of this new Pulsar motorcycle, Rajiv Bajaj said details will be revealed at a later date. Rumours suggested that this new Pulsar could be powered by a derivative of Dominar 400 or new KTM Duke 390 engine. In the past we have seen Bajaj launching similar sized engine cc motorcycles with Pulsar which were already seen in the KTM range. After the KTM 200 launch we got the Pulsar 200. After the KTM 250 launch we got the Pulsar 250. Will we get the Pulsar 400 next?New Pulsar 300 Incoming?Sources tell Rushlane that the biggest Pulsar that is getting ready for launch is not Pulsar 400, but Pulsar 300. It will be powered by an all new 294cc engine. With the 300-400cc motorcycle segment registering strong growth, a number of OEMs are targeting this space. Some recent launches include Harley-Davidson X440 and Triumph Speed 400. TVS has also introduced the Apache RTR 310.Bajaj Pulsar 300 could get a new design – Not inspired by Pulsar 250Pulsar bikes have always been preferred for their dominating street presence and powerful performance. The approach will be largely the same for the upcoming 300cc Pulsar. Of course, being the biggest Pulsar, enthusiasts can expect some added dynamism and features. Pulsar 300 will be muscular and aggressive, designed to turn heads of the streets. It will get a digital instrument cluster and Bluetooth based connectivity functions. Bajaj could add USD front forks, while a monoshock unit will handle suspension duties at rear. Both ends will have disc brakes, integrated with dual-channel ABS. For smooth downshifts, a slipper clutch can be provided. Pulsar 300 will have a versatile riding stance, suited for both city streets and highway cruising.Bajaj Pulsar F250While nothing is official as yet, the new 294cc engine to be used with the biggest Pulsar could generate around 30 PS of max power and 25 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed gearbox could be offered. Pulsar 300 will offer superior acceleration and could have a rated top speed in excess of 140 kmph. Once can expect impressive torque delivery across the rev range. The bike will appeal to folks who crave speed and performance.Biggest Pulsar 300cc will have a seat height of around 800 mm. It will ensure improved control and handling across varied environments. The bike will have ample ground clearance, allowing it to manage some mild off-roads. Fuel tank capacity could be around 15 litres.Bajaj Pulsar 300 – expected priceBajaj has been synonymous with affordability, which explains its soaring popularity across both domestic and international markets. Even with its flagship bike Dominar 400, Bajaj has ensured the most affordable pricing. While the current Pulsar 250 twins are available at a starting price of Rs 1.50 lakh, the new Pulsar 300 will be priced above this, making it an irresistible deal for budding enthusiasts.Bajaj has been targeting the premium motorcycle segment for quite some time now. However, as seen with bikes like Dominar 400, results have not been as per expectations. Hopefully, the new 300cc Pulsar can help Bajaj emerge as a strong player in the premium segment. This year, Bajaj will be launching 6 new Pulsar motorcycles. The company is also planning to launch CNG commuter bikes, which can be real game changer in the two-wheeler industry. More

Bajaj 100cc CNG Motorcycle Possible – 6 New Pulsar Launches This Year

New Bajaj Pulsar 220A factory-made CNG motorcycle can be a major disruptor with its low pricing and running costIn a development that could emerge as a game changer in entry-level motorcycle segment, Bajaj has hinted at the possibility of a CNG powered bike. The suggestion was provided by Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd. However, such decisions are likely to require the government’s stamp of approval. In case the idea gets the green signal, Bajaj will have the first-mover advantage in CNG motorcycle segment.Bajaj CNG motorcycles – key benefitsRajiv’s suggestion for CNG bikes comes at a time when there has been a major push towards using cleaner and greener fuels. While cars can choose from petrol, CNG, electric, hybrid, plug-in-hybrid, fuel cell, etc., the choices for two-wheelers are limited to petrol and electric. CNG can work as a good option, as it is cheaper in comparison to petrol. Moreover, CNG is less polluting than petrol and ethanol-mix petrol. The latter has issues related to corrosion, which may necessitate the use of special components in the powertrain. Such issues and related costs can be avoided with CNG powered bikes. Rajiv Bajaj has stated that CNG bikes will be cheaper to buy and reduce running costs.A CNG bike seems doable, as we have already seen Activa scooters fitted with CNG kits. Now, if CNG bikes are factory-made directly by an OEM, users can expect better results in terms of price, performance, mileage, durability and safety. Provided that the project gets the necessary approvals, Bajaj will be introducing CNG option for its 100cc – 125cc bikes.CNG bikes to boost salesCNG bikes can help boost sales in entry-level commuter segment. Growth in this space appears to have plateaued, as people are shifting to EVs or higher capacity bikes. Bajaj itself registered sales of 20,000 units of its Chetak electric scooter at the end of June 2023. But that is just around 2% of the company’s total sales in that period. Bajaj expects the EV contribution to increase to around 3-4 percent by end of this year.In ICE segment, around 70% of the company’s sales come from above 125cc bikes. This is why Bajaj has stepped up focus in this space. As part of that plan, the Pulsar 250 twins were launched in 2021. Bajaj has also updated the entire Pulsar range. Bajaj has now hinted at the biggest Pulsar ever, which could be a 400cc bike. Rajiv Bajaj has said there will be 6 new Pulsar launches this year.CNG powered bikes could be a major disruptor. These can attract an entirely new segment of users. For example, folks who may be relying on public transport. CNG bikes could also work for commercial applications. As CNG is far less polluting, there shouldn’t be an issue in having more of these bikes on the streets. The only concerns could be about the safety of these bikes. OEMs will need to design more robust systems that can comply with mandated safety norms.Source More
