Ather 450x Electric Scooter Production Boost – Grand Ceremony At New Plant

Ather Electric Scooter Production At New Plant
Ather Energy is planning to spread its presence to 40 cities by end of 2021

Ather Energy, the manufacturers of the India’s fastest electric scooters – 450X and Ather 450 Plus, are in an expansion mode. While the electric scooter maker had earlier announced plans to spread its presence across 40 cities by the end of 2021, the company is also opening up experience centers in 25 new cities by the end of June 2021 and will also have 500 charging points by the end of this year.
    New Year, New Plant
Earlier, Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus were produced at a plant in Whitefield in Bengaluru in Karnataka, the company now shifts to a new plant in Hosur in Tamil Nadu. The two wheeler EV maker has signed an MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu for a 4 lakh sq ft facility from where it will produce the Ather 450 and lithium-ion batteries.
A pooja was conducted at the new plant with all the team members in attendance along with a lineup of the Ather 450X and 450 Plus scooters. This move comes at a time when both the State and Central Governments are pushing for electric two wheeler adoption with an updated FAME policy, lower GST and benefits on loans for electric vehicles.
The Tamil Nadu EV policy also includes 100 percent exemption on electricity tax to EV industry till 31st Dec 2025 besides stamp duty exemption on land procured for such plants.
Ather Energy Team At the New Plant In Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
    Ather Hosur Plant
Tamil Nadu is an automobile manufacturing hub and the Ather unit in Hosur will be in close proximity to the company’s RD facility in Bengaluru and to the current and future supply base in the region. The new Ather plant in Hosur will also see the company ramp up production capacity. Ather Energy is looking to produce around 3,000 units per month from this new plant, which will later be expanded to 8,000 units by early 2022.
Tarun Mehta, the co-founder of Ather Energy, stated that from their older Bengaluru plant production was at an average of 300 units per month. These lower numbers were primarily due to the fact that the 450X was available only in 2 cities initially of Bengaluru and Chennai.
Now expansion of networks to new cities by the end of 2021 will see production increase correspondingly. The Hosur plant, besides producing the Ather range of electric scooters, will also produce batteries and the same plant will see the new Ather electric motorcycle being produced, though this is yet a few years away from launched.
Ather Ahmedabad Experience Center Opens This Week – 6th Feb 2021

Ather currently has the 450x and the 450 Plus electric scooters on offer

Ather Energy has opened their first experience centre in Mumbai today. Located at the popular Linking Road in Bandra, this state of the art showroom is called Ather Space. After Bangalore and Chennai, Mumbai is the 3rd city to get Ather Space.
In the coming months, more cities in India will be getting their own Ather Space. Hyderabad and Ahmedabad Ather experience centres will soon open for public. Ahmedabad recently got one of its first Ather Grid electric charging station.
    Increasing Production
Backed by Tiger Global, Hero MotoCorp and founders of Flipkart Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, Ather Energy was founded in 2013 and since then has raised $102.2 million. It has now been announced that Ather looks to intensify its production capacity.
Ather Energy has shifted its production base to Hosur in Tamil Nadu from its current manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Recently, the last unit of Ather 450 rolled out of this facility.
    Ather Space in Mumbai
By setting up this new manufacturing facility Ather will be ramping up its production which will help to manufacture 3,000 units in its initial stages and further expand to 8,000 units by the first half of this year. Ather has announced to expand its footprint beyond the 11 cities targeted for the first phase in November 2020. By March 2021, the company aims to have presence in 16 more cities – so total 27 cities will have Ather on offer by March 2021.
    Current Availability
11 cities of 1st phase are Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Coimbatore, Chennai and Kozhikode. Previously Ather has managed to produce only 300 units of 450 per month on average.
This modest number was mainly due to the restricted availability of the e-scooter in just 2 cities – Bengaluru and Chennai. Other factors such as lack of widespread charging infrastructure and premium pricing also led to slow sales volume.
    Ather Space in Mumbai
Ather Energy entered the Indian market with the launch of the country’s first intelligent electric scooter in the form of Ather 450 in 2018. This was followed by the launch of 450X and 450 Plus, more powerful and premium version of the standard 450 in January last year.
Ather Experience Center in Mumbai – Ather Space
They also launched a limited-run Series-1 Collector’s Edition of the 450X exclusively available for those who had booked it even before the brand had officially launched it. It is this special e-scooter, that is now being delivered in Mumbai via the new Ather Space Experience Centers.
    Powertrain & Performance
Ather 450X draws its power from a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) which is backed by a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This powertrain is good enough to produce an output of 6kW (8 bhp) of power and 26 Nm of peak torque.
Ather Experience Center in Mumbai – Ather Space
It has a strong performance which can make it sprint from 0-40 kmph in just 3.3 seconds thus making it one of the quickest scooters in comparison to the 125cc segment of scooters. It is offered with three ride modes- Eco, Ride and Sport along with an additional high-performance ‘Warp’ mode. More

Ather 450x Electric Scooter Gets Performance Improvements Via OTA Update

    Ather electric scooter
Ather regularly rolls out OTA updates – The latest one also delivers performance upgrade

India’s leading electric scooter manufacturer, Ather Energy has rolled out an update for its app on Android and iOS. This update is primarily a patch that has performance improvements as well as bug fixes. This update will be applicable for 450X and 450 Plus owners. One of the fixes is that the colour and name will now be displayed correctly in the app.
For Android users, the update is already available on Google Play Store. iPhone users may have to wait a couple of days, as the update is pending review on the App Store. Apple team will be on Christmas holidays till December 27, which has resulted in delay.
    Ather expansion plans
In terms of numbers, Ather Energy is currently placed at third place in the list of bestselling electric scooters. It trails behind Hero Electric and Okinawa. Ather is ahead of other rivals such as Revolt, Ampere, Benling, and Pure EV. In April-Sep 2020, Ather had sold a total of 941 units. In comparison, the numbers for Hero and Okinawa were 2,629 and 1,836, respectively.
To boost sales, Ather is currently working to expand operations across the country. In addition to Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, Ather now has presence in Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. Other cities on the radar include New Delhi, Kolkata, Kochi, Coimbatore, Calicut and Kozhikode.
Ather electric scooter test rides are now available in many new cities
In phase II, Ather electric scooter will be launched in several other cities such as Jaipur, Chandigarh, Surat, Noida, Lucknow, Nasik, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Hubli, Mysore, Vijayawada, Guwahati, Nagpur and Siliguri. If things progress as planned, Ather would have expanded operations to 27 cities by end of next year.
    Ather’s new plant
As Ather expands its footprint across the country, demand is expected to increase significantly in the future. To fulfil that, Ather has setup a new manufacturing facility at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. This plant is much bigger, spread across an area of 4 lakh square feet.
Its estimated production capacity is 1 lakh units per annum. When this new plant becomes fully operational, Ather would have catapulted to an established two-wheeler manufacturer from its current status of an EV startup. Ather has already discontinued production at its Bengaluru facility.
In every city where Ather has presence or will launch its electric scooter in the future, the company will be adding more charging stations. Availability of charging stations takes care of range anxiety, which is a crucial step for motivating customers to switch from standard petrol scooters to electric scooters. Ather 450X true range is 85 km on a single charge. It comes with fast charging and has ride modes of Eco, Ride, Sport and Warp. More

Ather Electric Scooter Production Set To Increase – Thanks To New Hosur Plant

Ather Electric Scooter Production Ends At Bangalore Plant
In order to expand its presence across the country, Ather needs to scale up its production considerably to meet required demands

At a time when most electric vehicles (EV) related technologies were foreign and barely within access, Ather Energy, an Indian startup, provided the necessary momentum to the EV segment in India by developing technologies and manufacturing vehicles on its own. Backed by big corporate houses such as Hero MotoCorp and Flipkart, the brand has come a long way in the Indian automotive scene.
The company started its production at a facility based out of Bangalore and will now shift to Hosur in Tamil Nadu. Spread across 4,00,000 square feet, Ather hopes that this new plant in Hosur will produce 1,00,000 units of electric two-wheelers annually in the coming years.
    Enhanced Production Capacity
Sharing a picture on his Twitter handle, Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, said the new facility will drastically increase rate of production. With this new manufacturing facility, Ather can transit from a startup to an established two-wheeler brand in the EV segment in India. The company currently has 450X and 450 Plus in its product portfolio.
Recently, the last batch of Ather 450 rolled out of its facility in Whitefield outside Bangalore before being discontinued altogether. The low sales volume of 450 was a result of a combination of lack of availability, high pricing and sparse charging network.
    Tweet from Ather CEO
Ather launched the 450 initially in just two cities- Bangalore and Chennai. Ather 450X and 450 Plus will be made available across 27 cities in the country by late 2021. This should help the manufacturer reach its target sales volume.
Setting up a new facility will help Ather ramp up production to 3,000 units per month initially and then increase it to 8,000 units per month by the first half of next year. Initially, Ather averaged just 300 units from its Bangalore facility.
Besides manufacturing electric scooters, Ather will also focus on developing batteries, with imported Lithium-Ion cells at the site. The same facility will also be used to develop Ather’s first electric motorcycle although it is still some time away.
Benefits Enjoyed By EVs in Tamil Nadu
Further, relocating the facility to Tamil Nadu will make the company eligible for all the benefits as per the state’s EV policy. This will enable Ather to enjoy benefit such as 100% exemptions on electricity tax to all EV related industries in the state, till 31st December 2025. Alongside, companies are also entitled to stamp duty exemption for the purchase of land to set up factories.
Ather recently started deliveries of 450X last month. The scooter was launched earlier in January this year and has been priced at Rs 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom). The 450X is powered by a 2.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which is paired with an electric motor generating 6kW/28 Nm and can return a single-charge range of 116 km. More
