Porsche is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Boxster mid-engine sports car with a special edition based on the 2021 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, meaning there’s a high-revving naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six on tap. The Boxster 25 is limited to 1250 cars and has styling touches reminiscent of the Boxster concept car (pictured below) that was revealed at the 1993 Detroit auto show.

Like the original concept, which shared its face with the 996-generation 911, the Boxster 25 has copper trim on the front and side air intakes, badging, and wheels. The fuel cap is adorned with “Porsche” script and finished in an aluminum look, as is the standard sport exhaust system. The car comes in GT Silver, Jet Black, and Carrera White color choices, and they’ll all look stunning paired with the five-spoke copper 20-inch wheels. The sport seats are trimmed in Bordeaux Red leather and complemented with a red fabric convertible top and a brushed aluminum interior.

The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six spins up 394 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque sent to the rear wheels through a standard six-speed manual transmission (#SaveTheManuals), although a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is available. In our testing, a six-speed-manual-equipped Boxster GTS 4.0 launched to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and ripped through the quarter-mile in 12.0 seconds at 118 mph. Porsche claims a top speed of 182 mph. The original 986-generation Boxster was powered by a 201-hp 2.5-liter flat-six.

Cadillac Reveals PAV Pod Concept That's a Toaster-Shaped Party Bus

GM unveiled the Cadillac luxury PAV pod concept, meant to pamper passengers on their way to an event, as part of the virtual CES technology show today.
The autonomous and electric vehicle has biometric sensors in the seats to adjust the climate and uses aromatherapy to keep passengers comfortable.
The pod, along with a single-passenger flying drone concept, are part of Cadillac’s Halo portfolio of concept vehicles.

Toyota Will Soon Be Selling More Than Just Cars

CES just wouldn’t be CES if there wasn’t some sort of self-driving pod. This year’s passenger-delivering box on wheels is from Cadillac’s Halo portfolio. The PAV (personal autonomous vehicle) is meant to provide a social space for friends and family to congregate on their way to an event—sort of like a limo without someone up front behind the wheel.

    Cadillac

Once inside, passengers’ vital signs are read via biometric sensors in the seats to adjust heat, humidity, aromatherapy, and lighting. Passengers can use voice control and hand gestures to control the experience, and there’s a way to control the interior camera to take photos so that everyone is in the picture.

GM’s Michael Simcoe with PAV Pod.
    Cadillac

While the sides of the vehicle are windowless, there’s a huge glass roof showing the world above. From a video shared by GM, it looks like a screen embedded in the seating area displays the route, while a retractable display up front welcomes passengers and shares details about each passenger’s biometrics and how long until the party reaches its destination.

    Cadillac

That destination might even be to fly around in Cadillac’s single-passenger autonomous flying drone concept. The EVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft) concept is meant for when time is of the essence, according to Michael Simcoe, GM vice-president of global design. “We are preparing for a world where advances in electric and autonomous technology make personal air travel possible,” Simcoe said during the CES presentation. The electric vehicle has a 90.0-kWh capacity battery. Its EV motor powers eight rotors that can propel the drone at speeds up to 90 mph. Cadillac even has what it calls a “luxurious two-seat design” for future drones, apparnetly so that couples can spend some time in the air decompressing.
While the EVTOL concept is more pie-in-the-sky than an actual product, the luxury pod concept could be the limo of the future. Sadly there’s no timetable for either product.

Celestiq Will Be Cadillac's EV Flagship with Four-Wheel Steering, Smart Glass Roof

Cadillac has teased its upcoming Celestiq electric flagship four-seat hatchback.
It’ll have all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and transparent glass roof panels.
Expect a 300-plus-mile driving range, a six-figure price, and an arrival date by 2025.
Cadillac will soon reveal a flagship electric sedan called the Celestiq to go up against the Tesla Model S and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS and electric BMW 7-series, and it should command a six-figure price. The Celestiq is one of GM’s 30 electric vehicles promised by 2025, and it’ll be built on the GM Ultium battery platform.

    Cadillac

The Celestiq will be a four-seat hatchback with all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering. It will have a claimed 300-plus-mile range from its approximately 100.0-kWh battery pack, which will be shared with the Lyriq SUV. To compare, the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus currently has an EPA-rated 402 miles of range. The Celestiq’s grille looks similar to the Lyriq’s with thin light strips and a lit-up Cadillac badge, and it has long, low proportions and sits on 23-inch wheels.

GM’s BrightDrop Will Build Commercial Delivery EVs

Like the Lyriq SUV, which will be Cadillac’s first electric vehicle, the Celestiq will have a massive LED display that stretches across the entire dashboard. Each rear passenger will have their own entertainment display as well. The Celestiq has a four-panel “smart glass” roof that can have different levels of transparency selected by each passenger. GM’s Super Cruise self-driving technology will also be available.
The Celestiq you see here is still a show car, although we expect Cadillac to share more information on the production version and the Lyriq SUV by the end of the year. They should arrive by 2025, with the Celestiq starting in the $100,000 range.

GM Launches BrightDrop Company to Make Electric Delivery Vehicles

GM announces a new business named BrightDrop that will build electric delivery products for release later this year.
Its upcoming on-road electric vehicle, the EV600, will have a target range of 250 miles and have 600 cubic feet of cargo space.
BrightDrop is also making the EP1 pallet, a smaller device used to help couriers carry items in a secure, electric-propulsion-assisted box.
GM continues its bullish push into electrification. Today the automaker unveiled a new business venture, BrightDrop. The company’s plan is to create an ecosystem of electric products to be used as delivery vehicles and “last mile” delivery solutions for commercial customers.

Bollinger Shows Concept for Deliver-E Van

The new company will produce multiple vehicles, starting with the EP1, an electric pallet that looks like an oversize library cart with doors. It will be available early this year. GM envisions the vehicle will help deliver packages from a vehicle to a customer. The electric box on wheels rolls at up to 3 mph while being directed by a courier and can carry up to 200 pounds. Modular shelving and locking cabinet doors keep items of various sizes secure, and it’s claimed to be easy to maneuver in tight spaces. The goal is to reduce costs, the strain on drivers, and package touch points.

    GM

According to GM trials conducted with partner FedEx Express, the EP1 can help deliver 25 percent more packages a day than a delivery driver alone. According to the two companies, couriers said the EP1 was easy to maneuver and reduces strain.
For on-the-road deliveries, the company introduced the EV600, a light commercial vehicle delivery van. It will use GM’s Ultium battery system, with an estimated range of up to 250 miles. The battery pack will support a charge rate of up to 170 miles in an hour via a 120.0-kW DC fast-charging station. The EV600 will have a capacity of over 600 cubic feet (likely why it’s called the EV600) in the cargo area. The rear door is automated, while the two front doors slide open instead of opening outward. A 13.4-inch infotainment display sits in the dash, and there’s a full suite of active-safety features including front and rear park assist and automated emergency braking, along with a cargo area security system with motion sensors.
GM says that in addition to the vehicles, the new company will offer up asset and EV fleet management software to help customers track vehicles, get detailed data to help implement more efficient routes, and offer remote diagnostics.
In the future, GM says that BrightDrop is working on electric concepts including a medium-distance vehicle that would transport multiple EP1s and a rapid-load vehicle concept.

    GM

GM won’t be alone in the electric-delivery-vehicle business. It will compete with offers from Rivian, which is building delivery vans for Amazon and has a partnership with Ford. EV startup Bollinger is also working on a delivery vehicle. The first BrightDrop EV600 vehicles will be delivered to customers including FedEx Express by the end of 2021, with orders opening to additional customers in Canada and the United States in early 2022.

2022 Chevy Bolt EUV Video Teases New Model's February Unveiling

GM shared a teaser video of the upcoming Chevrolet Bolt EUV’s steering wheel complete with a Super Cruise light bar.
The 2022 Bolt EUV will be the first Chevrolet to get GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance feature.
Both 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV and the refreshed Bolt EV will go into production this summer.
The 2022 Chevy Bolt and Bolt EUV electric vehicles won’t get a CES reveal like the original Bolt which was unveiled back in 2016 at the annual tech convention. But GM did take the opportunity to share a teaser video of the Bolt EUV’s steering wheel with Super Cruise and we know that both vehicles will be unveiled in February.

Chevy Shares Video of 2022 Bolt EUV’s Interior

Chevy Teases Silhouettes of Upcoming Bolt EVs

The video shows the Bolt EUV’s steering wheel and dashboard during startup. In it, we can see the Super Cruise light bar flashing red, blue, and green as the vehicle gets ready to go for a drive. The light bar’s illumination color indicates the status of Super Cruise to the driver. If it lights up green while driving, then the Super Cruise hands-free feature is available. The wheel flashes red when it determines that the driver has disregarded the flashing green light that signifies that the person behind the wheel is not paying attention. Finally, the light bar will flash blue when the driver takes over the wheel while Super Cruise is engaged.
The Bolt EUV will be the first Chevrolet product with GM’s hands-free driver-assistance system. Super Cruise made its debut in 2017 on the Cadillac CT6. GM says that it will be coming to 22 vehicles by 2023, including the 2022 Hummer EV.
GM already shared a silhouette teaser of the upcoming Bolt and Bolt EUV, so we have a bit of an idea of how they look. Plus, there have already been spy shots of the Bolt EUV. But next month we’ll finally get to see them out of the darkness and without camouflage.
Both vehicles will go into production in summer 2021.

Chevy's Mid-Engine Corvette Coming to Forza Horizon 4

The free Series 31 monthly update for Forza Horizon 4 happens on January 14.
The mid-engine Corvette is the 11th Corvette in the game of over 450 different vehicles.
Good news, gamers and Corvette fans: The 495-hp Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 is coming to Microsoft’s Forza Horizon 4 in its Series 31 update on January 14 for both Xbox and PC. Players can unlock the Corvette by completing the Find New Roads seasonal championship event in-game.

The best Corvette ever joins over 450 vehicles in the Forza 4 Horizon that originally launched in 2018. It’s now the 11th Corvette in the game, as at least one car from each generation has been added throughout two years of content updates.

Forza determines performance ratings for each car using criteria including horsepower, top speed, acceleration, and handling. Each car has a designated performance class, from the old and slow 1945 Willys MB Jeep in D class up to the insane 2.8-million-Forza-credit Koenigsegg Jesko in S2 class. Even the Hoonicorn Ford Mustang finds itself near the top of the list in S2 class, a special class for the especially quick and crazy.
We expect to see the Corvette in the S1 class, in a gamut between the 2013 Caterham Superlight R500 and the Chevrolet Silverado DeBerti drift truck. Our only question is, will the game let you swap the engine to the front, as it does with other cars? If you still need more bow tie in your video-game pasta, this update also brings the 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z as an unlockable car.
In the real world, the C8 Corvette is an especially good deal on performance that’s usually found on vehicles over twice as expensive from manufacturers such as BMW, McLaren, or Porsche. It’s won our 10Best Cars award two years in a row, and during our testing accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, one of the quickest times we’ve ever recorded. No turbos, no supercharger, just pure rear-drive American thunder from Chevy’s pushrod V-8.
