With a dual motor setup, Volvo EX90 SUV’s 111 kWh battery promises 480 km of range from a single chargeVolvo EX90 SUV DebutsSwedish brand, Volvo is synonymous with safety. The company has its roots firmly held in place in making family cars that are safe to the core. Volvo doesn’t shy away from demonstrating its safety aspects in innovative ways as well. For years, Geely-owned Volvo is neck deep in developing self-driving tech as well.In the push towards EV future, Volvo has promised one EV launch each year till the end of the decade. By that time, Volvo aims to only sell electric cars. In the company’s portfolio, this is equivalent in size and appeal to an XC90.Volvo EX90 SUV DebutsEX90 debuted in Stockholm today and it embodies Volvo’s design DNA and stays true to Volvo’s ethos. Some of which are minimalism, safety and progression. Volvo even claims that EX90 is their safest vehicle to date, thanks to tech that is set to get smarter and safer over time.Design-wise, it looks like what an electrified version of XC90 would look like. It ain’t no bad thing as XC90 had some of the best road presence despite being smaller than full-size SUVs like Cadillac Escalade. Front fascia now gets a closed-off grille and its whole minimalist design exudes class and sophistication.Volvo EX90 SUV 3-rowThor’s hammer DRLs now extend downwards and neatly merges into its bumper. Side-profile and rear profile are kept simple and are not likely to split opinions. Now might be the best time to address the elephant in the room. Volvo EX90 SUV comes with a bulb on top of its roof that houses its cameras, sensors, radars and other computing elements. It reminds us of the Black cabs of London, but this seems to be a conscious choice from Volvo. This position allows for a constant 360-degree view and spots objects and potential threats from hundreds of meters. EX90 SUV is the first vehicle from Volvo to come fitted with all necessary hardware to facilitate “unsupervised driving” in the future.Powertrain & FeaturesLike other Volvos, EX90 is starkly minimal and its center stage is a portrait-oriented 14.5” touchscreen system powered by Google software and has 5G connectivity and a phone key too. A landscape-oriented display forms its instrument console. The bulb gathers real-time data which is processed from a Snapdragon processor and visualised by Unreal Engine, a 3D tool on which many AAA game titles are also based.Volvo EX90 SUV InteriorEX90 is the first Volvo to get headrest-integrated speakers (usually associated with convertible cars) as a part of Bowers & Wilkins system. Owing to Volvo EX90 SUV’s massive size, a 111 kWh battery is offered which is based on a new platform. It makes 496 bhp of power and 910 Nm of torque from a dual motor setup.Company claims 300 miles (480 km) of range on a single charge. It is not yet certified though. There is no official charging power number. Volvo claims 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes from a fast charger, of course. Exact pricing is not known. However, Volvo states that a “well-equipped” trim will cost under $80,000 (approx Rs 65.34 lakh). Pre-orders are open and will be delivered in 2024. More

Jeep Classic SUV Goes Electric – Debuts As A Concept

Jeep CJ series is one of the most iconic car model the world as seen – It was on sale in India as well, thanks to MahindraJeep Classic SUV – CJ Goes ElectricThe Jeep Classic was in production from 1944 to 1986. It is what paved the way for the modern day Wrangler. The current Jeep Wrangler is the spiritual successor to the Jeep CJ Classic from last century. Now, the Classic Jeep SUV has made a comeback of sorts at the 2022 SEMA Show.Jeep CJ Surge Concept is currently on display at 2022 SEMA Show. It has been developed by Mopar – a performance and accessories division owned by Stellantis. Mopar says this is a concept for future propulsion systems for enthusiasts to convert classic cars and current cars into EVs. Looking at the Jeep CJ Surge Concept, we say it is a job well done.Jeep CJ Classic Electric SUVSo what’s pumping under the hood? A big V8 lump of an engine that displaces 7L or 8L and makes enough power to pull a cow? Actually, no. There is sensibility in this build, which is unlike many American products. This Jeep CJ Surge Concept is an electric vehicle. It has a battery pack in its boot and custom motor mounts under its hood (not calling it a bonnet, coz it is American). In the long run, this is a very sensible concept by Mopar and one that should be brought to production immediately. America is the second-largest automotive market in the world. Car modding culture in America is like second nature. Buying a classic car and plonking a Chevy LS1 engine or something similar in it is a common sight.Jeep Classic SUV – CJ Goes ElectricMany 4W and 2W manufacturers sell their engines for swaps and builds, keeping this modding culture booming. EV conversion kits like this would make more sense as we head into the future. Wouldn’t you say?Specs & FeaturesJeep CJ Surge Concept EV gets a 400V scalable electric drive module that is capable of making 268 bhp. This motor sends power to all 4 wheels via a 2-speed transfer case with selectable gearing. Providing juice to this motor, we have 24 Li-ion battery modules that form its battery pack that can hold up to 50 kWh worth of capacity. It gets a 2” lift-kit, obviously. Enhancing its go-anywhere-ability, we have Dana 44 Crate axles by Jeep Performance Parts. Jeep CJ Surge Concept rides on colossal 35” BF Goodrich AT tyres that give it a lot of presence. The essence of its donor Jeep is kept intact and in fact, Mopar has added to it. We can see Wrangler JK Rubicon bumpers, Warn winch, LED headlights and more.Insides get an overhaul too with a center console derived from Wrangler JK Rubicon. Custom seats, a roll cage, trimmed windshield add to the aesthetics and make this a proper vintage, yet modern Jeep. Finished in a Copper Canyon shade with Surf Blue accents, Jeep CJ Surge Concept is instantly recognisable as a Jeep from a mile away. More

Tata Nexon EV Battery, Electric Motor Prices – Shared By Owner

Tata Nexon is the best selling electric car in India currently – It comes with a 8 years or 1.6 lakh kms warrantyTata Nexon Electric Battery PriceTata Motors is currently No 1 when it comes to electric car sales. With Nexon EV Prime, Nexon EV Max, Tigor and newly launched Tiago EV, Tata has electrified its popular 4W portfolio. This is likely to strengthen Tata’s grasp on this segment even further. Despite India being a young market for EVs, we have seen good reception for Tata’s electric products. This is reflected in sales charts and places Tata at the top spot with 82.80% of electric car market in September 2022. Majority of these sales are because of Nexon EV, which does not have a direct rival as of now. Mahindra XUV400 is coming soon to crash Nexon EV’s party.Tata Nexon EV batteryNexon EV Battery, Motor Price RevealedCompared to petrol / diesel cars, electric cars are expensive. This is largely due to the price of battery and electric motor, which are the two most expensive parts in an electric car. Recently, a Nexon EV user had taken to social media to reveal that its battery costs Rs. 7 lakh. Now another Nexon EV owner has shared the price of an electric motor. It costs Rs. 4,47,489. This is MRP for “Traction Motor Assembly”.There is no doubt that these are very expensive parts. But they are covered under warranty. Tata Nexon offers a warranty of 8 years of 1.6 lakh kms on the battery. If the battery malfunctions in this period, you will get a new battery free of cost.Nexon EV Motor Price shared by ownerNexon EV owner from Karnataka drove 68,000 km in two years. The range had reduced significantly and the car would stop when battery’s state of charge went below 15%. Since it was under warranty, Tata Motors replaced the old battery with a new one at no additional cost.Tata Nexon Electric owner reveals price of a new batteryWill Electric Car Prices Reduce?Spare parts always have a profit margin compared to what goes on the car during production. The combined cost of Tata Nexon battery and electric motor is almost Rs 11.5 lakh. That does look like a lot when considering the price of a new Nexon EV.As with dealership business models, following a big ticket purchase, i’e., a car, dealerships create earning channels through service plans. With EVs, service channels are still being developed. Another component that could play an important role is reusing batteries in their second life and third life avatars. We can hope that with time, localization will increase and due to mass manufacturing, EV component prices will come down. If that happens, we may witness a fall in EV component prices. Tata Motors has announced huge investments to increase production of their electric cars. More

New Ola Electric Car Interior Teased – Touchscreen, Steering Wheel

From the horizontal LED bar to the vertical aerodynamic winglets, upcoming Ola car gets it all in a similar fashion as Lucid AirNew Ola Electric CarOla Electric is set on an ambitious pursuit to establish itself as the de facto EV maker. When we say EV maker, we mean EVs in general and irrespective of how many wheels it comes with. Ola tops the charts when it comes to 2W EV retail sales in September 2022. Will Ola be able to pull off the same feat in 4W EV segment? Only time will tell.As of now, EV 4W segment is dominated by Tata Motors with its Nexon EV and Tigor EV. With the launch of Tiago EV, Tata Motors is likely to tighten its grip on this segment for a long time. At the price it is launching, Tiago EV even poses as a viable alternative for gasoline-powered cars as found in our in-depth analysis.Upcoming Ola Car Interior TeasedOla Electric is steering away from the part of 4W EV segment where Tata is currently dwelling and is soon to be joined by Mahindra with its XUV400. Instead, Ola will try its hand at a more premium space. Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal promises the sportiest car ever built in India. Upcoming Ola car interior has now been teased. Let’s take a look. One look at upcoming Ola car interior and it is immediately evident that Ola is going for a minimalist vibe. Most EV makers adopt this trend to make their products look futuristic. This is also an attempt to establish a certain distinction from the cars of today. I like the look of it, but the functionality, not so much.[embedded content][embedded content]Buttons and knobs trump minimalism any day of the year as found in a study. In keeping with current trends, Ola has stuck to it. Steering wheel is not exactly a wheel. In this sense, it is not exactly round. That being said, I would much prefer this over the vastly unconventional steering yoke that Tesla’s Plaid Editions get.It has a 9 to 3 positioning steering layout. On either side, we get panels with touch-sensitive controls that remind me of my Blackberry and vertical rockers as well. In the middle, we have a horn pad that houses driver’s airbag and has Ola badging on it. This Ola branding is not illuminated unlike the ones found on upcoming BE series from Mahindra.Dashboard layout is briefly teased which gets a horizontally laid out touchscreen infotainment screen. It is in line with the rectangular-ish steering wheel. Looks aesthetically pleasing, but doesn’t fall into the driver’s peripheral vision. A free-standing unit placed on top of the dash would be much more practical.New Ola Electric CarExterior DesignOla seems to have taken a lot of inspiration from Tesla Model S rivaling Lucid Air. From the horizontal LED bar, to the vertical aerodynamic winglets, upcoming Ola car gets it all in a similar fashion. On top of this LED bar, we have LED headlights that are integrated into a sleek unit. We have only been teased with digital renderings. A physical prototype model is likely to be displayed at 2023 Auto Expo. This particular teaser doesn’t divulge much info. However, our rendering artist Pratyush Raut has penned down his take on Ola’s upcoming car and is based on Ola’s past teasers. It will be a coupe-like sedan with a lot of headline figures. Batteries and designing are done in-house and all of this is a culmination of an ambitious project that Ola has put itself into. More

Mahindra Electric Pickup Truck Render – Based On New Design Language

The new family of Mahindra electric vehicles are based on a modular architecture and is estimated to have a driving range of over 400 kmsMahindra Electric Pickup Truck RenderBetween clearing up huge order backlogs of XUV700, ensuring the newly launched Scorpio N gets off on its feet smoothly, and tackling the chip shortage, Mahindra has its plate pretty much full. However, hectic day-to-day affairs doesn’t deter a big company from actively working on defining its future strategy. The Indian UV specialist took a step into a new era when they unveiled 5 new electric vehicles earlier this year. While Mahindra has been dabbling with EVs for several years now, the 5 new products could be considered as the first serious attempt to make a dent in the fast growing global EV segment.New Mahindra Electric Pickup Truck RenderThese five new Mahindra electric cars usher in the brand’s future design identity which is being redefined under the new leadership of Pratap Bose. The vehicles are designed by Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) and have global aspirations.Though none of them are electric pickups, Rushlane’s design specialist Pratyush Rout has created a digital render based on the same design language. If it ever enters production, the vehicle will be made in India and eventually be sold in the domestic market, the primary target market will be North America where electric pickup trucks are gaining traction briskly.Mahindra Electric Pickup Truck RenderThe confident-looking Mahindra electric pickup seems like it has got what it takes to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the popular medium-sized pickups in the USA. Mahindra has finally decided to ditch the contentious Jeep-derived seven-slot grille design as it seeks to establish authenticity. Moreover, being EVs, the future Mahindras don’t really need a large air-intake area at the front.New design languageThe prominent LED lighting signature, new ‘M’ badge, high ground clearance, off-road tyres and a traditional double-cab profile render the truck an appealing road presence. Interiors and specifications will likely be similar to the new age Mahindra BEVs..These new Mahindra electric cars are likely to take advantage of the company’s recent partnership with Volkswagen which allows usage of certain critical components from the German carmaker’s MEB electric platform. This move will keep the development costs low and lead time short, giving Mahindra a competitive edge over rivals like Rivian R1T.The electric SUVs are currently being developed by Mahindra. Of the five, it is the Mahindra XUV700 Electric which is expected to be launched first. These five new Mahindra electric SUVs are expected to make their India debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in Jan next year. More

GMC Sierra EV is still shouty, and American in its nature. Less so, when compared to Hummer EV. Denali is the name of the trim that is slapped on top-spec models of GMC products.
