    Atum Electric Motorcycle Maker Launches Solar Powered Charging Station

    With electric vehicles gaining a strong foothold in the country, the development of efficient charging stations is the need of the hour. The past year has seen launch of a range of electric vehicles, particularly in the two wheeler segment. This change has come about more particularly due to the urgent need for personal means of travel during the current pandemic situation and is also fueled by the ever rising prices of petrol and diesel.
    ATUM Charge, a 100 percent subsidiary of Visaka Industries Limited, seeks an environmentally friendly and sustainable eco system. The company has set up India’s first 100 percent self-sustaining solar powered electric charging station in Hyderabad.
    ATUM Charge is very different from a regular electric vehicle charging station. It uses ATUM, the world’s first Electricity Generating Integrated Solar Roof unlike other charging stations that use electricity produced by thermal power generation, which in itself is a source of pollution thus defeating the very purpose of cleaner and environmentally friendly power.

    Launched at SP Road, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, by Dr. G Vivekanand, Chairman, Visaka Industries Limited, ATUM Charge, apart from serving as a service station for Atumobile’s ATUM 1.0, a café racer styled e-bike and acting as a test ride center, will also cater to the charging demands for all electric vehicles. It will have free WiFi and workstations along with a satellite office.

    These charging stations are powered by ATUM solar roof, generating 40 percent more electricity as compared to traditional solar panels. It can be installed in urban and rural areas and does not need any roof underlay. ATUM is Class-A fire rated and is hurricane proof, capable of tackling wind speeds of over 200 km/h. Built of GreenPro certified material, the charging panels are highly sustainable and reliable.
    ATUM Charging stations are made of Vnext board which are made fiber cement boards, more eco-friendly as compared to gypsum, wood or plywood. These Vnext products produce only 36 kgs of CO2 emissions as against 800 kgs produced by plywood and 1000 and 2000 kgs produced by cement or steel per tonne, thus making ATUM Charge more adept in conserving energy and preserving the environment.
    The company has installed 4 kW capacity panels which can charge upto 10-12 vehicles per day with a charging time of 6-8 hours for a 100 percent charge. It consists of 3 charging sockets. Additionally, the company will be installing 6 kW capacity allowing for charging upto 25-30 vehicles per day. Following the successful launch in the city of Hyderabad, similar charging facilities are being set up in cities of Chennai, Goa and Bangalore.
    Atum 1.0 electric motorcycle
    Atumobile Pvt. Ltd, Hyderabad recently introduced Atum 1.0 electric bike at Rs 49,999. It sports a minimalist styling and cafe racer look with sleek dual LED lamps, LED indicators and a flat and wide handlebar with a centrally positioned digital display in form of an instrument cluster.
    The e-bike receives a portable lithium-ion battery pack which takes 4 hours for a full charge. The 6 kg battery uses 1 unit of electricity to be charged 100 percent which means that the bike can travel 100 kms in just Rs 6-7. More

    Bajaj Pulsar Sales, Exports Breakup Aug 2021 – 125, 150, 160, 180, 200, 220F

    Bajaj Auto has been retailing the Pulsar brand of sporty commuter motorcycles for two decades now. From an entity for the local market, the Pulsar brand has helped Bajaj reach international status with increasing exports over the years. Currently, Bajaj retails eight derivatives of Pulsar models in India with six different engine displacements.
    Bajaj Pulsar Aug 2021 Domestic Sales- Pulsar 125 Leads Charts
    The Chakan-based manufacturer was able to dispatch 65,747 units of Pulsar motorcycles to dealerships across India last month. This was 21,455 units less than August last year and 653 units less than July this year. It has resulted in a YoY decline of 24.60 percent and MoM growth of 1 percent.
    The entry-level Pulsar 125 witnessed sales volume of 32,659 units in August 2021. In comparison, 34,667 units of Pulsar 125 were sold in July this year which translated to MoM decline of 5.79 percent. On the other hand, 43,493 units of the motorcycle were sold in August last year which resulted in YoY decline of 24.91 percent. Next in line was Pulsar 150 which raked in a volume of 24,261 units last month.
    In July 2021, the monthly sales figure stood at 21,355 which led to MoM growth of 12.66 percent. During August last year, Bajaj sold 29,777 units of Pulsar 150 which resulted in a YoY decline of 18.52 percent. The bikemaker dispatched a cumulative 4,666 units of Pulsar 160, Pulsar 180 and Pulsar 200 in August this year. These figures stood at 5,408 units in July this year and 8,374 units in August last year which has transpired to MoM decline of 13.72 percent and YoY decline of 44.28 percent.
    Bajaj Pulsar Sales and Exports Aug 2021 vs Aug 2020 (YoY)
    Last month, Bajaj sold 4,161 units of the flagship Pulsar 220F as opposed to 3,484 units dispatched the previous month. This resulted in MoM growth of 19.43 percent. During August last year, Bajaj dispatched 5,558 units of the semi-faired motorcycle which has led to YoY growth of 25.13 percent.
    Pulsar 160, 180, 200 Lead Exports Chart
    The company exported a total of 34,243 units of Pulsar bikes in August this year as opposed to 28,628 units during the same period last year. This translated to YoY growth of 19.61 percent. In July 2021, Bajaj shipped 35,371 units to overseas markets which resulted in a 3.19 percent MoM decline. The chart was led by the 160cc, 180cc and 200cc segments of Pulsar which witnessed 15,754 units exported last month.
    Bajaj dispatched 14,965 units of Pulsar bikes from this segment which has led to YoY growth of 5.27 percent. In August last year, 11,246 units were exported from this space which translated to a YoY growth of 40.09 percent. 11,641 units of Pulsar 150 were shipped overseas last month as opposed to 12,514 units during the same month last year. This led to YoY degrowth of 6.98 percent.

    The bikemaker exported 4,352 units of Pulsar 125 and 2,496 units of Pulsar 220F in August this year. Both motorcycles registered YoY growths of 17.12 percent and 116.67 percent. While Pulsar 125 recorded MoM growth of 3.03 percent, Pulsar 220F witnessed an MoM decline of 9.37 percent. More

    Yamaha Aerox 155cc Launch Teaser Out – R15 Based Maxi Sports Scooter

    Yamaha had showcased the Aerox 155cc scooter in India back in 2018. But at that time they decided not to launch as it did not get the expected response. But it is 2021, and demand for maxi-scooters is on the rise.
    Yamaha will be expanding its scooter lineup in India by launching Aerox 155 tomorrow. As per the latest teaser shared by Yamaha India, they will launch their new Maxi Sports scooter on 21st Sep, tomorrow. Interestingly, tomorrow is also the day Yamaha will launch the new R15 V4 and the R15M.

    The 155cc scooter will be the first Maxi-style offering from the Japanese bikemaker on Indian soil. The Maxi segment of scooters is clearly an untapped space in the country presently with the only notable offering in this category being Aprilia SXR 160.
    Yamaha has already homologated the upcoming Aerox 155 and its type approval documents revealed a few crucial details about the scooter. Aerox will be the third model from the Japanese automaker to offer the much-loved 155cc VVA motor which also powers YZF R15 and MT-15.
    Yamaha India Launch Teaser Of New Maxi Sports Scooter – Aerox 155cc
    The scooter is already available for retail in a few Southeast Asian markets including Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand. Yamaha a few months ago, during the launch of FZ-X, had revealed that its focus will be on the premium segment of two-wheelers with a variety of models between 150cc and 250cc. Aerox will cater to the demands of a niche segment of buyers who want a scooter with performance, a unique design as well as class-leading features.
    Design & Specs
    In terms of styling, 2021 Aerox 155 currently on sale in Indonesia includes a twin LED headlight setup consisting of LED DRLs and an updated LED tail lamp. It is, however, not a full-fledged Maxi scooter and only borrows the design aspect from the premium segment of scooters. Even though it is powered by a very potent 155cc motor, its output figures are simply not enough to classify it as a true Maxi scooter.
    Nevertheless, the single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor will pump out 14.75 bhp in the India-spec model which is a tad less than the iterations sold in Thailand and Indonesia. This mainly has to do with stricter emission norms in our country. In terms of proportions, the new Aerox 155 will measure 1980 mm in length, 700 mm in width, and 1150 mm in height. Wheelbase on offer is 1350mm.

    Features on offer
    As far as features go, Aerox is equipped with a digital instrument console which is enabled with connectivity modules such as Bluetooth and Yamaha’s Y-Connect smartphone app. The latter allows riders to pair their smartphones with the scooter in order to receive a host of information including error codes, service schedules and last parking location.
    Other feature highlights include hazard lights, keyless entry, engine start/stop, LED headlight and taillight, and a 25-litre storage capacity under the seat which can be accessed by a remote locking button. Suspension duties are carried out by conventional telescopic forks in front and twin remote reservoir shock absorbers at rear.     Royal Enfield Sales, Exports Breakup Aug 2021 – Classic, 650 Twins, Bullet, Himalayan

    Royal Enfield domestic sales for August 2021 stood at 39,070 units, down 17.87 percent over 47,571 units sold in August 2020. It was the 350cc models of Classic, Meteor, Bullet and Electra that mainly contributed to these sales despite each of these posting de-growth.
    Top Selling Royal Enfield Motorcycles
    RE updated their Classic 350, and that has had not much effect on sales as it continues to be the best selling RE in Aug 2021. Classic 350 sales dipped 32.59 percent YoY to 23,453 units, down from 34,791 units sold in August 2020. MoM sale also fell 8.15 percent over 25,534 units sold in July 2021. Classic 350 currently holds a 60.03 percent share up from 53.27 percent held in July 2021.
    Of the RE Meteor 350, the company had sold 8,777 units in July 2021 relating to a MoM de-growth of 27.30 percent to 6,381 units in August 2021. Domestic sales of Bullet 350 also dipped 49.44 percent YoY and 48.56 percent MoM with 3,669 units sold in August 2021.
    In the above 350cc segment, Himalayan sales however saw a substantial YoY increase up 422.64 percent to 2,770 units in August 2021 over 530 units sold in August 2020. MoM sales increased marginally over 2,730 units sold in July 2021.
    Royal Enfield Sales Aug 2021
    Sales of Electra 350 and 650 Twins dipped 52.46 percent and 3.47 percent respectively on a YoY basis to 1,93 units and 834 units. MoM sales dipped for the Electra 350 by 33.44 percent but 650 Twins saw a 2.4 percent sales increase over 811 units sold in July 2021.
    RE Exports Aug 2021
    Royal Enfield exports surged both on YoY and MoM basis up 164.10 percent to 6,790 units in August 2021 over 2,571 units exported in August 2020 and up 43.01 percent over 4,748 units exported in July 2021.
    Royal Enfield Meteor 350 topped the export list with 2,387 units shipped in the past month. This was a 37.42 percent growth over 1,737 units exported in July 2021. The Meteor currently commands a 35.15 percent share which is marginally lower as compared to 36.58 percent held in July 2021.

    RE 650 Twins of which 2,134 units were exported in August 2021 saw a 51.45 percent growth over 1,409 units exported in August 2020. MoM exports also increased 33.54 percent over 1,598 units shipped in July 2021.
    Himalayan and Classic 350 exports also increased 69.91 percent and 303.93 percent respectively to 1,502 units and 719 units in August 2021 over that of August 2020. MoM exports also noted an increase particularly so for the Classic 350 which increased 1006.15 percent from 65 units shipped in July 2021 to 719 units in the past month.
    Exports of Classic 500 dipped 51.02 percent to 4 percent YoY while MoM exports increased by 242.86 percent over 14 units shipped in July 2021. Exports of Bullet 350 and 500 were nil in August 2021 even as there were only 5 units of the Bullet 350 sold in July 2021. More

    Top 10 Scooters Aug 2021 – Activa, Access, Jupiter, Ntorq, Burgman

    Top 10 scooter sales in August 2021 stood at 4,23,534 units, up just marginally by 0.99 percent over 4,19,370 units sold in August 2020. Every model in the list of top 10 scooters posted a YoY growth with the exception of TVS Jupiter, Honda Dio and Grazia.
    Top 3 Scooters – Activa, Access, Jupiter
    Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) dispatched over 4.3 lakh two-wheelers in August 2021, showcasing a steady recovery in economic activity out of which the Activa scooter commanded a total of 2,04,659 unit sales. It was once again the best-selling scooter in the past month with a 5.71 percent YoY growth over 1,93,607 units sold in August 2020. Share in its segment stood at 48.32 percent.
    At No.2 on the list of 10 bestselling scooters in August 2021 was Suzuki Access 125. It is the company’s flagship scooter, with sales growth of 18.44 percent YoY to 49,135 units, up from 41,484 units sold in August 2020.
    TVS Jupiter sales dipped YoY by 12.89 percent to 45,625 units in August 2021, down from 52,378 units sold in August 2020. HMSI also had the Dio scooter at No. 4 with 26,897 units sold, but reporting a YoY de-growth of 37.39 percent over 42,957 units sold in the same month of the previous year.

    NTorq, Fascino, Pleasure Sales
    Sales of TVS Ntorq saw a 31.98 percent YoY increase to 26,288 units, up from 19,918 units sold in August 2020. Currently commanding a 6.12 percent share in the list, the new Ntorq 125 Race Edition also made its way into Bangladesh markets where it is Bangladesh’s first Bluetooth connected scooter. In India, TVS Ntorq 125 Race Edition is priced at Rs 80,325.
    Yamaha Fascino sales also increased YoY by 15.12 percent to 18,037 units, up from 15,668 units sold in August 2020. To herald in the festive season, Yamaha has introduced great offers on purchase of the newly launched RayZR 125 Fi and Fascino series scooters. Yamaha is also planning launch of the Aerox 155cc in India by the end of this year. This maxi-scooter will compete against Aprilia SR160 and Suzuki Burgman.
    Standing at a No. 7 spot on the list of best-selling scooters in August 2021 was Hero Pleasure of which 17,200 units were sold in the past month, up 1.56 percent over 16,935 units sold in August 2020. Yamaha Ray ZR was at No. 8 with a 2.84 percent YoY sales increase to 16,064 units.

    Yamaha Sales, Exports Aug 2021 – R15, MT15, RayZR, FZ, Fascino

    Yamaha India domestic sales in the past month saw an 8.11 percent YoY increase to 54,042 units, up from 49,989 units sold in August 2020. In domestic market, it was the Fascino, RayZR and R15 that posted sales increase while sales of the Yamaha FZ, MT15 and FZ25 dipped substantially.

    Topping sales charts was Fascino, Yamaha’s entry-level 125cc scooter. Sales increased 15.12 percent YoY to 18,037 units over 15,668 units sold in August 2020. Currently commanding a 33.38 percent share, MoM sales increased substantially by 89.36 percent over 9,525 units sold in July 2021 when it held a 19.81 percent share.
    At No. 2 in domestic sales was RayZR of which the company sold 16,064 units last month. This was a 2.84 percent increase over 15,620 units sold in August 2020. MoM sales increased by 127.76 percent over 7,053 units sold in July 2021. More recently, the company launched the Yamaha RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid at Rs 76,830. The scooter gets two variants of RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid and Street Rally 125 Fi Hybrid targeting buyers in varying age groups.
    Sales of Yamaha R15 also increased substantially by 75.51 percent YoY to 9,590 units with a share percentage of 17.75, up from 5,464 units sold in August 2020. MoM sales also saw an improvement by 31.73 percent as against 7,280 units sold in July 2021 when it commanded a 15.14 percent share. This drastic increase is likely due to the fact that the Yamaha is getting ready to launch 2021 R15 V4 and R15M on 21st Sep.
    Yamaha India Sales, Exports Aug 2021 vs Aug 2020 (YoY)
    Lower down the order, YoY domestic sales of Yamaha FZ, MT15 and FZ25 dipped substantially. FZ sales dipped 57.42 percent to 7,608 units in the past month, down from 17,868 units sold in August 2020. MoM sales also dipped 57.89 percent over 18,066 units sold in July 2021.
    MT15 sales dipped 57.77 percent to 1,752 units, down from 4,149 units sold in August 2020. Sales on a MoM basis fell 67.04 percent over 5,316 units sold in July 2021. Yamaha FZ25 sales on the other hand dipped on a YoY basis by 42.91 percent to 991 units but recovered in terms of MoM sales, up 19.25 percent over 831 units sold in July 2021.
    Yamaha Exports Aug 2021
    With total exports of 22,965 units in August 2021, this was a 61.59 percent increase over 14,212 units exported in August 2020. MoM exports however dipped 12.68 percent over 26,300 units shipped in July 2021. Yamaha FZ led the export chart with 9,108 units exported in August 2021 over 6,532 units shipped in August 2020 leading to a 39.44 percent YoY growth. MoM exports however dipped 26.87 percent over 12,455 units shipped in July 2021.
    Yamaha India Sales, Exports Aug 2021 vs Jul 2021 (MoM)
    Exports of RayZR (5,162 units), Crux (3,786 units) and Yamaha SZ (2,196 units) increased substantially in August 2021 over August 2020 and also on a MoM basis; except for the SZ that reported a 6.07 percent decline in exports in July 2021.
    Yamaha FZS exports also dipped 18.26 percent to 958 units in the past month, down from 1,172 units shipped in August 2020. MoM exports of the FZ25 saw a de-growth of 61.23 percent over 2,471 units shipped in July 2021. Even as R15 exports surged 329.85 percent to 864 units over 201 units shipped in August 2020, MoM exports dipped 10.19 percent from 962 units shipped in July 2021.
    Yamaha MT15 has noted the highest increase in MoM exports up 7900 percent from 3 units shipped in July 2021 to 240 units in August 2021. YoY exports of Yamaha Saluto RX and Fascino also dipped 94.29 percent and 99.46 percent respectively while MoM exports of the Saluto RX increased 105.56 percent. More

    TVS Motor Company has launched the new Raider motorcycle in the 125 cc segment. Set to take on the likes of Honda CB Shine 125, Bajaj Pulsar 125 along with Hero Glamour and Super Splendor, the Raider targets a younger and more adventurous segment of buyers in the country.
    One of the first owner of TVS Raider in India is a Yoga teacher. He has now taken delivery of the motorcycle, which is finished in Yellow and is the disc brake variant. It comes in a range of best in class and best in segment features among which are ride modes of Eco and Power, a reverse LCD digital speedometer
    Best in Class and Best in Segment Features
    TVS Raider is being presented in colour options of Striking Red, Blazing Blue, Wicked Black and Fiery Yellow and in drum and disc variant. Drum brake variant costs Rs 77k while the disc brake variant costs Rs 85k. All prices are ex-sh, Delhi. A few months later, TVS will launch another variant of Raider that will be equipped with Bluetooth connected features and it will cost about Rs 90k.
    Equipped with best-in-class Acceleration and first-in-segment Ride Modes, Reverse LCD Cluster, an optional 5 inch TFT cluster with Voice Assist and TVS’ SmartXonnect suite of connected features with Bluetooth connectivity and voice assist functionality. On board features will also include added under seat storage and a wider split seat.

    The new Raider also comes in with Ecothrust Fuel injection (ETFi) technology relating to better fuel efficiency, startability and reliability, along with intelliGo that ensures better riding comfort and mileage and also significantly reduces emissions with engine switch off during long idling at traffic signals and other stops. Side stand indicator with engine immobilizer and helmet reminder will also be a part of its features.
    Styling of the new TVS Raider will show off a bold design theme with 3D TVS emblem on tank extensions, a full sized pillion grab handle, full LED headlamp which is divided into three sections by angular LED DRLs and LED tail lamps. The TVS Raider rides on alloy wheels with tubeless tyres and gets ground clearance of 180mm and seat height of 780mm.
    Engine, Suspension and Braking
    TVS Raider is powered by a new 125 cc, air and oil cooled 3V engine offering 11.3 hp power at 7,500 rpm and 11.2 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Acceleration from 0 to 60 km/h is achieved in 5.9 seconds to allow for a top speed of 99 km/h. Suspension is via gas charged 5 step adjustable monoshock and low friction front suspension and braking is via 240mm disc set up in front and 130mm drum at the rear.
    TVS Raider 125, positioned between Radeon 110 and the Apache RTR 160 4V in the company lineup, comes in at an entry price of Rs 77,500 (ex-showroom) for the drum brake variant going up to Rs 85,469 (ex-showroom) for its disc brake counterpart.     TVS Motor Buys Stake In Switzerland Based Electric Bike Company

    TVS makes second big European acquisition after it acquired iconic British two-wheeler brand Norton Motorcycles
    TVS Motor Company has made another major acquisition of a European firm, this time in the field of electric mobility. The Indian bikemaker has acquired majority stakes at Switzerland-based EGO Movement which makes electric bicycles.
    The company has struck an Rs. 132-crore (CHF 16.6 million) all-cash deal to pick 80 percent stakes of EGO. The remaining 20 percent will be held by the founders of the Swiss company. The deal was made through TVS’ Singapore-based subsidiary TVS Motor Singapore Pte. Ltd.
    TVS In Europe
    This is the second major acquisition by TVS in Europe after it bought the iconic British brand Norton Motorcycles. After the latest development, TVS plans to grow its presence in the electric mobility space across Europe and later expand to other markets such as India and USA.
    The company expects to generate a revenue of USD 100-150 million from the e-bike business in the next five years. Joint Managing Director of TVS, Sudarshan Venu, affirmed that the deal is progress towards delivering unique e-mobility solutions.
    EGO Electric Bike
    Led by the co-founders Daniel Meyer and Marie So, EGO Movement is a Swiss technology company providing a wide range of mobility solutions such as e-bikes, e-cargo bikes, and e-scooters. The brand has expertise in combining designs with software and hardware. At present, it has a very small omni-channel network of 10 retail stores across Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany with plans to expand across Europe.
    Expansion & Growth Plans
    The Swiss company currently employs around 40 people. EGO has reported annual sales of around 3500 units last year with a revenue of USD 6 million in 2020 The brand looks to expand its presence by ramping its retail network to 20 stores by 2022 and 32 by 2025. With the proposed expansion, TVS expects the revenue of EGO to grow to CHF 10 million this year and about USD 100 million (CHF 90 million) in about five years.
    Venu added, “We’re building a strategic personal e-mobility ecosystem by scaling unique brands which share our vision of delivering compelling customer experience benchmarks through cutting-edge, aspirational products.” He further revealed that the e-mobility space is growing at a double-digit CAGR particularly in European markets like Germany, Switzerland and Netherlands.
