    Hero Xtreme 250R First Ride Review – Your Next Quarter-Liter Street Fighter?

    Hero Xtreme 250R First Ride ReviewFor the first time, Hero MotoCorp has entered the sporty and premium quarter-liter motorcycle segment. We’re talking about the company’s new Xtreme 250R which was launched in India at the grand stage of Auto Expo 2025. The company recently hosted a media drive event in Udaipur, Rajasthan. We sampled Xtreme 250R for around 200 km across multiple riding scenarios and here’s what we think about Hero’s first 250cc motorcycle.

    Where pricing is concerned, Hero Xtreme 250R costs Rs 1.8 lakh (Ex-sh) for one fully loaded variant with all the bells and whistles. Hero is offering three colours with Xtreme 250R – Firestorm Red, Stealth Black and Neon Shooting Star. Hero MotorCorp provided Rushlane with Neon Shooting Star colour, which grew on me quite a lot.

    However, Firestorm Red is the launch colour and is probably the best looker of this bunch. Where design is concerned, Xtreme 250R has a lot going on, which might prove busy for some. Especially with the multi-layered appeal with different colourways and all the cuts and creases. However, it somehow looks cohesive on this motorcycle and it looks rather nice.
    Most of the muscle is concentrated around its fuel tank. It looks chiseled and edgy, while the tank shrouds makes Xtreme 250R look a lot bigger than it is. Front section has a hunkered down execution seen with the positioning of its fuel tank and headlight. It gets USD telescopic front forks. These USD forks are 41mm units and lend an appeal similar to triceps of a predator.

    Apart from the mass-forward design, rear section is quite appealing to look at as well. Xtreme 250R gets a split stepped seat and it aligns with the angle of its exhaust end can. Headlights, tail lights along with DRLs and turn indicators are all LEDs. Both front and rear disc brakes are at the exhaust side, making it the most photogenic angle.

    Switchgear offers extensive controls to operate the new digital instrument cluster and cycle through various menus and functions. I consider Xtreme 250R to be one of the best-looking mainstream street fighter motorcycles sold in India. Speaking of, Xtreme 250R locks horns with other quarter-litre street fighters like KTM 250 Duke, Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Husqvarna Vitpilen 250. Xtreme 250R undercuts them all in terms of pricing.

    Specs & Ergonomics
    Xtreme 250R is the first motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp to feature the new 249cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a DOHC 4V/cyl head. This is the most powerful Hero MotoCorp product launched yet, generating 30 bhp of peak power at 9,250 RPM and 25 Nm of peak torque at 7,250 RPM.

    This engine is mated to a slip and assist clutch along with a 6-speed gearbox. This engine is supposedly 20-25% more powerful and 10-14% more torquey than rivals. The liquid cooling setup works quite well in dissipating the heat away from rider. The fan does kick in frequently, but engine temperature reading on the new digital instrument cluster did not go above half of its threshold.

    Ergonomics on Xtreme 250R are sporty, yet comfortable. Handlebar position commanded a slight lean for a tall guy like myself (182 cm). I could easily flat foot at both sides as seat heigh is manageable at 806 mm. This riding posture did not induce any fatigue in me even after riding it for a long time. ORVMs are decently wide and offer a great view of everything behind.

    Fuel tank offered a great leverage for me to lock my thighs and grip the motorcycle. Seat cushioning is slightly on the firmer side, which created some discomfort after a long ride time on the saddle. While the step for the pillion is slightly on the higher side, it should provide better comfort for a longer period on the saddle when compared to flat seats that command a knees up position for pillions.

    Dynamics & Performance
    When on the move, Xtreme 250R masks its weight quite beautifully and feels very agile. For context, Xtreme 250R weighs 167.7 kg and is quite manageable while maneuvering in parking spaces or other situations. The 17-inch alloy wheels are wrapped with 110-section front tyre and 150-section rear tyre, helping to put down all that power.

    Hero MotoCorp is promising 3.2s 0-60 km/h sprint and an 8.5s 0-100 km/h sprint with Xtreme 250R. It accelerates with a lot of vigour. 100 km/h comes up in 4th gear and then it screams towards the red line. Acceleration is fitting for a premium and sporty 250cc quarter-litre street fighter motorcycle, achieving quick progress to cut into city traffic.

    The best aspect of Xtreme 250R’s dynamics is its handling. It is sharp and agile and feels very precise. The motorcycle allows rider to carry quite some speed into the corners and provides optimum confidence and composure at the same time. Wide handlebar also provides great leverage while cornering and the bike doesn’t resist the rider to take it slow. Sharp handling does take a toll on rider comfort as the overall ride is quite firm. But nothing spine shattering, in any way.

    The seat is spacious and accommodating, offering rider space to move around and lock on to the motorcycle. Footpegs positioning is quite neutral as well. Hero’s new 250cc engine is quite smooth across most operating speeds. However, vibrations do creep in at higher engine speeds and they can be particularly felt on handlebar, footpegs and fuel tank. Nothing major, but a tingling buzz.

    Braking is one department where I would like some improvements. For starters, Hero is offering a 320 mm front and 230 mm rear disc rotors, mated with dual channel ABS. Despite the motorcycle having dual-channel ABS, the rear wheel locked up on multiple occasions. This ABS system gets Road and Race ABS modes that rider can cycle between that is optimized for both racing and stunts.

    The instrument cluster gets automatic brightness adjustment based on an ambient light sensor. The same light sensor is used for automatic headlight features as well. This display is legible across multiple lighting scenarios. The trip computer is quite advanced showing twin trip metres along with stats for top speed, 0-60 km/h and 0-100 km/h sprints.

    It also shows fuel efficiency, service due, date & time, menu for ABS modes, average speed and time consumed. There’s Bluetooth connectivity with Hero App integration allowing advanced functionalities like music control, notification alerts, smartphone stats and turn-by-turn navigation.

    Some Reservations & Conclusion
    1. Hero MotoCorp could have implemented dual horn with Xtreme 250R2. The fully digital instrument cluster is the same one seen on Karizma XMR 210 and this system does not look as posh and sophisticated as the one seen on Xpulse 210.3. Braking performance of this machine should be more sure footed.4. Fuel tank is only 11.5L and a larger capacity could have been better.5. Seat could have been more plush for better comfort.

    These reservations are more of a nitpick and there are no deal breakers with Hero Xtreme 250R. The pricing of Xtreme 250R might go lower if the company decides to sell it via E-commerce platforms like Flipkart. At those lower prices, Hero Xtreme 250R makes a lot more sense than it already does.

    It is by far the most appealing motorcycle Hero has designed and it also features the new 250cc engine, which is smooth and performant.     Top 10 Motorcycle Sales Feb 2025 – Splendor, Shine, Pulsar, Classic 350, Raider

    Hero SplendorHero Splendor continued its reign at the top of sales charts followed by Honda Shine
    From opening the calendar year 2025 on a promising note, motorcycle sales in Feb 2025 declined severely. Sales of the top 10 models on this list stood at 6,86,633 units, thereby suffering an 11.78% YoY de-growth while MoM sales also fell by 9.60%. There had been 7,78,305 units sold in Feb 2024 while in Jan 2025 sales had grown to 7,59,508 units.
    Hero Splendor maintains massive lead
    At a No.1 spot as always was Hero Splendor. Sales stood at 2,07,763 units, down 25.25% from 2,77,939 units sold in Feb 2024. This related to a 70,176 unit volume decline. Splendor held a 30.26% share. This mileage friendly and one of the best choice for commuters also suffered a MoM de-growth of 19.92% when compared to 2,59,431 unit sales of Jan 2025.
    Next on the list was the Shine with 1,54,561 unit sales last month. It received increased demand with an 8.26% YoY growth from 1,42,763 units sold in Feb 2024. However, MoM sales declined by 8.16% over 1,68,290 units of Jan 2025.
    HF Deluxe saw its YoY sales decline by 7.30% to 70,581 units from 76,138 units while MoM sales grew by 13.43% over 62,223 unit sales of Jan 2025. This caused an improvement in market share to 10.28% from 8.19% held previously.

    Apache, Classic, Unicorn – YoY and MoM Growth
    Experiencing both a YoY and MoM de-growth was Bajaj Pulsar. Sales fell by double digits of 21.90% YoY and 15.54% MoM to 87,902 units. It was followed by the Apache with 37,954 unit sales. Apache witnessed a 9.72% YoY growth from 34,593 unit sales of Feb 2024. It also saw its MoM sales improve by 9.98% over 34,511 unit sales in the previous month.
    Like TVS Apache, RE Classic and Unicorn too showed off strong demand. Sales of RE Classic grew to 30,641 units, an 8.23% YoY and 0.19% MoM growth. Unicorn sales too advanced to 28,932 units in the past month which was a 35.88% YoY and 9.14% MoM growth. There had been 28,132 units of Raider sold last month, a drastic de-growth of 33.12% from 42,063 unit sales of Feb 2024. MoM sales improved by 2.74% MoM to command a 4.10% market share.
    Lower down the list was the Bajaj Platina which also suffered lower sales at 20,923 units which was a YoY decline of 27.14%. This was when compared to 28,718 unit sales of Feb 2024. MoM sales as well were down by 23.46%.

    Royal Enfield Classic 650 Twin to Launch on March 27 – Expanding the 650cc Lineup

    New Classic 650Royal Enfield will launch the much-anticipated Classic 650 Twin on March 27, 2025. The Classic 650 Twin is the latest addition to the company’s growing 650cc portfolio, following the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, Super Meteor 650, and Shotgun 650.
    Design & Features – A Classic Look with Modern Touches
    The Classic 650 Twin borrows key design elements from the Classic 350 while sharing its main frame, sub-frame, and swingarm with the Shotgun 650. It continues the brand’s retro styling, featuring a rounded LED headlamp with position lights, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and a large analogue instrument cluster with a tripper meter.
    The bike will be offered in four colour options:
    – Vallam Red– Bruntingthorpe Blue– Teal– Black Chrome
    Classic 650
    It rides on wire-spoked wheels with 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, fitted with MRF tyres. The twin chrome exhausts and a wider rear fender add to its distinctive styling. Weighing in at 243 kg, it is set to be the heaviest bike in Royal Enfield’s lineup.
    Engine, Suspension & Braking
    Powering the Classic 650 Twin is a 647cc, air/oil-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing 46.4 hp at 7,250 rpm and 52.3 Nm of torque at 5,650 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission, featuring a slip and assist clutch for smoother gear shifts.
    Suspension duties are handled by 43mm telescopic Showa forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. The braking setup includes disc brakes on both ends, with dual-channel ABS as standard.

    Positioning & Expected Pricing
    The Classic 650 Twin will be positioned between the Continental GT 650 and the Shotgun 650, offering a balance between classic styling and powerful performance. While official pricing is yet to be revealed, it is expected to be priced around Rs 3.5 lakh ex-sh.
    It will primarily compete with Royal Enfield’s own lineup, including the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650. Additionally, it will take on the recently launched BSA Goldstar 650, offering buyers a blend of heritage styling and modern-day performance. With its official launch set for March 27, Royal Enfield is set to expand its dominance in the mid-capacity cruiser and retro-modern segment, catering to enthusiasts looking for classic aesthetics combined with a powerful twin-cylinder engine. The 650 Twins (Interceptor & Continental GT) posted 39.23% growth, with 2,882 units sold, up from 2,070 units last year.
    Super Meteor 650 also registered a 10.25% increase, with 1,183 units sold compared to 1,073 units in February 2024. Royal Enfield’s newest offerings, Guerrilla 450 and Shotgun 650, added 621 units and 264 units, respectively, contributing to the brand’s strong overall performance.

    Following an 18.96% year-on-year (YoY) growth, Royal Enfield’s month-on-month (MoM) performance remained stable, with 80,799 units sold in February 2025, compared to 81,052 units in January 2025, marking a marginal decline of 0.31%.
    Classic 350 maintained its strong momentum, with 30,641 units sold, reflecting a 0.19% MoM growth over 30,582 units in January. Bullet 350 also recorded a slight increase of 0.42%, with sales rising from 19,163 units to 19,244 units. Meanwhile, Hunter 350 showed a 4.30% MoM growth, selling 16,599 units compared to 15,914 units in January.
    On the other hand, some models witnessed a sales dip. Meteor 350 saw a 13.93% decline, dropping from 8,373 units to 7,207 units, while the 650 Twins (Interceptor & Continental GT) registered a 7.92% decline, selling 2,882 units compared to 3,130 units in January. The biggest decline was recorded by Himalayan, which fell 20.52%, with sales reducing from 2,715 units to 2,158 units.
    However, Royal Enfield’s newer models posted strong MoM growth. Super Meteor 650 saw a 57.94% increase, with 1,183 units sold, up from 749 units in January.     New Motor Vehicle Fines 2025 – Traffic Penalties Increased Up to 10x

The government’s latest move aims to curb reckless driving, ensure road safety, and enforce stricter compliance with traffic laws. The revised penalties include heavier fines, potential jail time, and community service, sending a strong message to traffic offenders.
    Major Traffic Violations and Their New Penalties
    Drunken Driving: The penalty for driving under the influence has been raised to Rs 10,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment. Repeat offenders will face ?15,000 fine and up to 2 years in jail, a significant jump from the previous Rs 1,000 – Rs 1,500 fine.
    Using Mobile While Driving: Distracted driving is now taken more seriously, with fines soaring from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 for using a mobile phone while driving.
    No Helmet / No Seatbelt: Riding without a helmet, previously fined at Rs 100, will now cost Rs 1,000, and your license may be suspended for three months. Not wearing a seatbelt also comes with a Rs 1,000 fine.

    Driving Without Documents:
    – No valid driving license – Rs 5,000 fine, possible three months in jail and community service.– No insurance – Rs 2,000 fine (Rs 4,000 for repeat offenders).– No pollution certificate – Rs 10,000 fine and/or six months in jail with community service.
    Triple Riding & Dangerous Driving: Carrying more than two passengers on a two-wheeler will now cost Rs 1,000, while dangerous driving or racing attracts a Rs 5,000 fine.
    Not Yielding to Emergency Vehicles: Blocking ambulances or emergency response vehicles will result in a Rs 10,000 fine.
    Signal Jumping & Overloading:
    – Jumping traffic signals now incurs a Rs 5,000 fine.– Overloading vehicles now attracts a Rs 20,000 penalty, a drastic jump from the earlier Rs 2,000 fine.
    Juvenile Offenders: Minors caught driving will lead to a Rs 25,000 fine, 3 years imprisonment, cancellation of the vehicle’s registration, and a ban on obtaining a driving license until 25 years of age.
    With steeper fines, stricter enforcement, and harsher penalties, the government hopes to reduce accidents, promote disciplined driving, and improve road safety across India. Authorities have urged motorists to adhere to traffic laws to avoid heavy penalties and ensure safer roads for all. More

Meanwhile, Bajaj Pulsar declined by 21.90%, selling 87,902 units compared to 1,12,544 units in February 2024.
    Hero HF Deluxe continued its run in the top 10 but dropped 7.30%, selling 70,581 units, down from 76,138 units last year. The Suzuki Access saw a modest 4.54% YoY growth, reaching 59,039 units from 56,473 units. TVS Apache posted a 9.72% increase, with 37,954 units sold compared to 34,593 units in February 2024. TVS XL 100 slipped to ninth place, registering 33,572 units, a 18.23% decline from last year’s 41,059 units. Rounding off the top 10, Royal Enfield Classic 350 maintained steady demand, selling 30,641 units, reflecting an 8.23% YoY growth over 28,310 units last year.

TVS Jupiter also experienced a 3.96% drop, with sales decreasing from 1,07,847 units to 1,03,576 units. Bajaj Pulsar, which sold 1,04,081 units in January, slipped to 87,902 units, marking a 15.54% decline.
    Hero HF Deluxe recorded the highest MoM growth among the top 10, with a 13.43% increase from 62,223 units to 70,581 units. Suzuki Access followed, posting an 8.16% rise, selling 59,039 units compared to 54,587 units in January.     Built on a lightweight diamond-type frame, the Shine 100 features telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers, offering a stable and comfortable ride. For safety, it comes equipped with drum brakes on both wheels and CBS (Combined Braking System).
    Honda’s Commitment to the Commuter Segment
    In February 2025, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) surpassed Hero MotoCorp in domestic two-wheeler sales, marking a significant shift in the Indian two wheeler market. HMSI reported domestic sales of 3,83,918 units, while Hero MotoCorp’s domestic sales stood at 3,57,296 units, reflecting a 19.8% year-over-year decline. This development underscores HMSI’s growing market presence and highlights the challenges faced by Hero MotoCorp in maintaining its longstanding leadership position. ?

    This is the first time TVS is venturing into ADV genre and Apache RTX 300 will be their maiden product in this category. The patent design shows that TVS is going for an Adventure Tourer format, instead of an all-out off-roader. This is a rather welcome approach by TVS Motor as it is their first ADV and more off-road worthy products may launch in the future.
    TVS Apache RTX Name Trademarked
    Apache RTX 300 will target both off-road enthusiasts and tourers alike. The motorcycle looks large and accommodating for long journeys. It seems to have an upright riding posture and a tall windscreen (which may be adjustable) to protect riders from windblast. We can see a luggage rack at the rear to accommodate a top box along with multiple provisions to mount luggage.
    Where design is concerned, TVS is going for a semi-fairing with muscular tank extensions that flow into the headlight section. Speaking of headlight, it seems to be a quad barrel LED reflector setup split into two sections (low beam and high beam). Turn indicators are sleek LED units and protrude out of the fairing.

    Seat is of split design and has a pronounced step for pillion, offering more comfort. Handlebar are slightly high set, offering a relaxed riding posture for rider. Also, TVS Apache RTX 300 have ORVMs mounted on handlebar and not on its fairing. Rear gets LED tail lights, sleek LED turn indicators and a tyre hugger.
    TVS’ maiden ADV is getting premium components too. We get USD telescopic front forks finished in a lovely Gold shade along with rear mono-shock setup. Front wheel is likely to be 19-inch and rear 17-inch. It gets single petal disc brake setup at both ends and switchable dual channel ABS may be part of the package.
    TVS RT-XD4 Engine

    This motorcycle is expected to be powered by TVS’ new RT-XD4 engine, mated to a slipper clutch, a quickshifter and a 6-speed gearbox. Peak power is around 35 bhp and peak torque is around 28.5 Nm. This is a 299cc engine which is liquid-cooled and could get a DOHC 4V/cylinder head.
    Spy shots have shown a horizontal instrument cluster which might be a colour TFT unit. Bluetooth connectivity along with SmartXonnect app integration might allow music control, notification alerts and even navigation. Launch is likely to happen soon and price could start from around Rs 2.8 lakh (Ex-sh). More
