Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan Spied Getting Charged Enroute Ladakh

RE Electric Himalayan Spied Getting ChargedOne of the world’s leading classic motorcycle manufacturers, Royal Enfield, is going out on its limb to enter the lucrative electric 2W segment. While the Flying Flea brand is gaining traction, all eyes seem to be on Electric Himalayan project.
Test mules of Electric Himalayan have been spied multiple times. Royal Enfield has officially teased Electric Himalayan test beds off-roading in Leh Ladakh region. Recent spy shots show Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan test mules getting charged via charging stations and mobile chargers on wheels running on ICE generators. Let’s take a closer look.
RE Electric Himalayan Spied Getting Charged
    Electric Himalayan Spied Getting Charged
Royal Enfield Himalayan is one of the company’s most celebrated models. It aims to be a hardcore off-roader and then a versatile tourer. The company has flexed its engineering prowess with Himalayan as it was their first ever ADV. Now, the company is porting over its expertise into electric 2W segment and Himalayan is a candidate.
    RE Electric Himalayan
Electric Himalayan has been recently spied testing enroute Ladakh for testing. Being an electric motorcycle, it needs recharging especially while range usually drops while tackling inclines in mountain terrains. These test mules seen in recent spy shots were connected to fixed charging stations and then mobile chargers.
    RE Electric Himalayan
These mobile chargers are likely to be working on diesel generators. In this case, the generator was housed inside a Force Traveller van. Royal Enfield seems to be operating a large number of test mules and that is why existing chargers were not enough to charge them all at once, necessitating the need for mobile chargers.
    RE Electric Himalayan
However, this reflects the fact that India’s electric charging infrastructure is still in its nascent stage and is yet to evolve further. If a group of 10 friends took a ride like this, all on electric 2W or cars, there are just not enough charging stations to accommodate them all at once.
RE Electric Himalayan Twin Battery Setup
What to expect from Electric Himalayan?
As seen in the video by er.janakbhardwaj on Instagram, Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan comes equipped with two separate battery packs. These could be removable allowing users to carry these battery packs to their apartments to charge. Also, this design might help users to carry battery packs to nearest domestic plug when fully depleted rather than pushing the entire motorcycle. Think jerrycans, but for electric 2W vehicles.
    RE Electric Himalayan
Overall ethos of Himalayan ICE motorcycle have been carried over. In this sense, Electric Himalayan is still an off-roader as it gets large wire-spoke wheels with off-road tyres, high ground clearance and suspension travel, a tall windscreen for wind protection and more. It has to be noted that the units spied are still test beds and they get a lot of premium components.
    RE Electric Himalayan
Most of these might not make it to final production model when launched. The company has not revealed a launch timeline, but Electric Himalayan is going to be a global product. Where performance is concerned, Electric Himalayan packs a mid-mounted motor from Spanish EV brand Stark Future SL, which could pack enough oomph to match Himalayan 450’s performance.

Yamaha R3 and MT-03 Could Get Rs 30k Price Cut With GST Revision

Yamaha R3Recently, Yamaha Motor India announced the new prices of its portfolio in response to the revised GST 2.0 tax slabs introduced by the Indian Government. The maximum price cut was enjoyed by its popular R15 motorcycle at Rs 17,581 (Ex-sh). Alongside R15, Yamaha announced price cuts for all of its motorcycles and scooters sold in India.
However, there were two vehicles missing from this list and were not subject to any price hikes. These are R3 and MT-03, both of which are powered by a 321cc engine, eligible for GST 2.0 tax reforms. New report suggests that Yamaha is considering to offer a price cut of around Rs 30,000 with R3 and MT-03, making them more affordable to buyers.
Yamaha R3 and MT-03 Rs 30k Price Cut
Only the R3 and MT-03 in Yamaha’s Indian portfolio are brought into the country via the CBU route, while others are locally manufactured. Both of these vehicles had received lukewarm response from Indian motorcycling enthusiasts owing to their high prices and the fact that they are older generation models, when compared to global markets.
    Yamaha MT-03
Yamaha is trying to fix the pricing aspect of these motorcycles as the company recently employed up to Rs 1.1 lakh price reduction on R3 and MT-03. With this new pricing strategy, R3 was priced at Rs 3.60 lakh (Ex-sh) and MT-03 at Rs 3.5 lakh (Ex-sh). Now, Yamaha is set to slash prices further with the new GST 2.0 reforms.
A recent report has revealed that Yamaha will be offering a price cut of up to Rs 30,000 on R3 and MT-03, taking the Ex-sh prices down to around Rs 3.2 lakh for MT-03 and Rs 3.3 lakh for R3. These motorcycles lock horns with motorcycles like KTM 390 Duke, RC 390, TVS Apache RTR 310, Apache RR 310, Triumph Speed 400 and Thruxton 400 among others.
    Any other updates?
Both motorcycles are powered by the same 321cc parallel twin cylinder DOHC 4V/cyl liquid cooled engine with up to 42 bhp of peak power and 29.5 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. While all of R3 and MT-03’s rivals have gotten more expensive with GST 2.0 reforms, Yamaha seems to be having the last laugh.
These premium imported motorcycles are sold via Yamaha’s Blue Square dealerships and Yamaha is yet to release current versions of R3 and MT-03 in India available in global markets.

    Variant-Wise GST Benefits
Speaking on the development, Itaru Otani, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group, said: “We would like to thank the Government of India for the timely reduction in GST on two-wheelers. This step will provide a strong boost to the two-wheeler demand during the festive season. By making two-wheelers more affordable, it will not only benefit customers directly but also stimulate overall consumption and create positive momentum for the industry. At Yamaha, we are pleased to pass on the full benefit of this reduction to our customers across India.”
    Industry Insight
The timing of this move is crucial. Two-wheeler sales have seen uneven recovery post-COVID, with premium motorcycles and sporty scooters like the R15 and Aerox 155 witnessing stronger traction compared to mass commuter bikes. By lowering ownership costs, Yamaha aims to capture festive demand while strengthening its position in the premium commuter and scooter markets.
Dealers are also likely to benefit from increased footfall, as buyers who were postponing purchases in anticipation of GST cuts may now advance their buying decisions. Customers can approach authorized Yamaha dealerships for variant-specific price confirmations and ongoing festive offers. More
