- The VW Arteon hatchback is updated for 2021 with a new look and upgraded interior.
- It will be available in SE, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium R-Line trim levels.
- The 2021 Arteon will arrive in the U.S. in November.
The VW Arteon has only been on sale in the U.S. for two model years, but it’s already getting an update that includes freshened styling and new features. The 2021 Arteon hatchback will go on sale in November in the States and also features a simplified trim-level lineup. The 2.0T engine remains the same for the U.S. market, although those lucky Europeans get a new more powerful Arteon R, a plug-in-hybrid version, and a Shooting Brake wagon variant.
The many exterior updates mostly serve to accentuate the Arteon’s crisp lines, with a more prominent grille, new lighting elements, and a few extra trim pieces for the R-Line package (pictured). VW’s new badge is also in place, and the “Arteon” script on the rear is new. The R-Line appearance package is now standard on the SEL and SEL Premium versions, with only the base SE coming without those sporty appearance pieces.
Bigger changes can be seen inside, where the Arteon receives a new dashboard setup that includes touch-sensitive climate controls to replace the previous buttons and knobs and redesigned air vents. The infotainment system is updated to the latest VW software, and the steering-wheel design is new as well. Ambient lighting with a choice of 30 colors is available. An optional Harman Kardon audio system replaces the previous Dynaudio system.
A single engine choice will remain on the menu for U.S. buyers, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 268 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard and 4Motion all-wheel drive is optional on the SEL and standard on the SEL Premium. We sadly are getting neither the high-performance, 315-hp Arteon R nor the plug-in-hybrid version that VW will sell in Europe.
Volkswagen says the 2021 Arteon will reach U.S. dealerships by November. We expect pricing will rise slightly from the current pricing which ranges from $37,015 to $48,715.
