Kia Sedona Minivan Will Be New for 2022, and Here's a First Look

  • Kia has released a sketch of the next-generation Sedona minivan previewing its styling.
  • The current Sedona has been around since 2015, and it needs a redesign to compete with newer minivan rivals.
  • We expect the new 2022 Sedona to arrive in the U.S. sometime in 2021.

Kia is one of the few automakers that still sells a minivan in the U.S., and the Sedona is about to get redone. This sketch previews the look of the new 2022 Kia Sedona, which will debut later this year before it arrives in America sometime next year.

We like what we see so far, as the new Sedona looks to have crisp lines and nice detailing. We expect it’ll ride on a new platform, possibly shared with the Kia Telluride, and continue to use a naturally aspirated V-6 engine. All sorts of family-oriented features will be on hand inside, including possibly an evolved version of the current Sedona’s optional lounge-style second-row seats with footrests.

The new Sedona have its work cut out for it competing against the current minivan state of the art, as the Toyota Sienna just received a bold redesign for 2021 and the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey have both been updated recently. The Kia sells in smaller numbers than these more well-established rivals, but this new model may seek a larger piece of the shrinking minivan pie.
