2021 Toyota Corolla to Add Apex Sport Package with Available Summer Tires

Marc UrbanoCar and Driver

  • The 2021 Toyota Corolla is adding a sport package called Apex.
  • It’s available for the sedan’s SE and XSE trim levels (pictured) and includes sporty appearance tweaks and available summer performance tires.
  • Toyota will release full info on the Corolla Apex soon, and it should go on sale within the next few months.

The Toyota Corolla hatchback will soon add a GR-badged performance model, and the sedan doesn’t want to be left out on the action. So for 2021, the Corolla sedan will offer a new sport package called Apex that includes some performance and appearance tweaks for the SE and XSE trim levels.

From what we can tell, the most significant performance enhancement is the availability of summer performance tires—yes, on a Corolla sedan. The Apex will otherwise have the same 2.0-liter inline-four with 169 hp that’s offered as an option in the Corolla sedan and as standard in the hatchback. Naturally, the Apex package is available on the sedan’s SE model with a six-speed manual transmission, and also on the CVT-equipped SE and XSE models.

The Corolla Apex will be available in three color combinations: black, white with a black roof, and a grey called Cement that’s also paired with a black roof. We also expect it will feature other appearance tweaks to give it a more aggressive look than the SE and XSE trims, which are already visually differentiated from the standard L, LE, and XLE trims.

Toyota is likely to announce more details on the 2021 Corolla Apex soon, including pricing. And we can only hope that the Apex announcement will accompany the highly anticipated details about the upcoming GR Corolla hot hatchback.
