2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Will Be the Most Track-Capable 5.0

  • Ford officially announced that the Mustang Mach 1 will make its return for the 2021 model year.
  • It’ll have a more powerful version of the 5.0-liter V-8 that’s found in the 460-hp GT models.
  • Ford will debut the Mach 1 this spring, and pricing is expected to start at around $50,000.

Ford took a gamble when it named the brand’s first electric crossover the Mustang Mach-E, but now the legendary Mach 1 is returning for the 2021 model year. And don’t worry, it’s powered by a 5.0-liter V-8.

with speed, style and a name that embodies both, ford today announces the mustang mach 1 is roaring back to life this year, with its debut coming this spring

For the past two years, the special-edition Mustang Bullitt has bridged the gap between the GT and Shelby models, but now that spot will be taken by the Mach 1. The Mach 1 will be more track-ready compared to the Bullitt, though, and in these slightly camouflaged photos, we can see that it’ll come equipped with a rear spoiler similar to that on the Shelby GT350 and GT500 models. In addition, the Mach 1 will have large air intakes on the grille and come equipped with Brembo brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. But don’t the Performance Pack Level 2 Mustang GTs have some of these upgrades? Yes, but the Mach 1 will be more powerful.

The Mach 1 will be powered by Ford’s 5.0-liter V-8, which, in the Bullitt, makes 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque—that’s 20 more ponies that the standard GT spins up. So, we expect that the Mach 1’s 5.0-liter will produce close to 500 horsepower. During Car and Driver testing, the 2019 Mustang Bullitt launched to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and raced through the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at 115 mph. The Bullitt is only offered with a glorious six-speed manual transmission—and we hope that’ll be the same with the Mach 1.

Ford says that the 2021 Mustang Mach 1 will make its debut sometime this spring. But spring is almost over, so get excited. The 2020 Mustang Bullitt starts at $48,905, and we expect pricing for the Mach 1 to start just under $50,000.
