Final 991-Gen Porsche 911 Going to Auction for Coronavirus Relief

  • The final 991-generation Porsche 911 is of the Speedster variety and has a base price of $275,750.
  • The car is the last of 233,540 units produced for the seventh generation of the 911 and is painted in GT Silver Metallic; it also has the Heritage Design package.
  • It’s up for auction online through RM Sotheby’s, and the winning bidder also gets a tour of Porsche’s development facility, a bespoke Porsche Design watch, and a book documenting the journey of the car.

The final Porsche 911 of the 991 generation is special for a couple of reasons. First, it’s the final one of 1948 Speedsters made in this generation. Second, it’s going up for auction through RM Sotheby’s Online Only auction platform, and the proceeds will be donated to help with COVID-19 relief.

Porsche 911 Speedster in Production, 2019

The Porsche 911 Speedster is the sendoff for the seventh generation of Porsche’s most iconic nameplate. Essentially a topless and wingless GT3, the Speedster is the purist’s Porsche. It’s powered by the melodious naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that sings gloriously on the way to its 9000-rpm redline. This wonderful engine is partnered with a good old-fashioned six-speed manual transmission. The final 911 Speedster was assembled months ago in December and was the last 991-gen 911 to roll off Porsche’s assembly line in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Germany. This last Speedster is finished in GT Silver Metallic and features the Heritage Design package. The car’s odometer reads 20 miles, and the car has never been registered. The base price for a 911 Speedster is a lofty $275,750, but you can expect someone will pay a whole lot more than that on this occasion.

Bidding for the car will be online, through RM Sotheby’s Online Only auction platform, and proceeds will be donated to United Way Worldwide’s coronavirus Community Response and Recovery Fund. The auction will start on April 15 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time and closes April 22 at 1:00 p.m.

Also included with the car is a bespoke 911 Speedster Heritage Design Chronograph from Porsche Design. The watch incorporates historic Speedster design features, including a strap made from the same cognac leather found throughout the car’s interior and a silver winding rotor that is identical to the wheels found on the Speedster. The Swiss-made watch also has the chassis number of this final 991-generation 911. The winning bidder will also be invited to Porsche’s Weissach development headquarters in Germany for a behind-the-scenes tour and visit to the test track, accompanied by the Frank-Steffen Walliser and Andreas Preuninger, heads of the 911 and GT model lines. The package also includes a book documenting the assembly of the final 991-generation 911. Klaus Zellmer, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, will hand over the car personally during an event to take place in the United States. We can only assume that these tours and handoff events will happen after the order for social distancing has been lifted.
