Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 BS6 brochure leaked – Torque drops by 0.4Nm

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 BS6 is a worthy rival to the new Bajaj Dominar 250

Suzuki Motorcycle India plans to launch the updated BS6-compliant version of the Gixxer SF 250 on the market soon. The Japanese motorcycle brand is yet to confirm the date of launch due to the ongoing coronavirus scare but we expect it to happen by the end of this month. Now, ahead of the launch, the official brochure of the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 BS6 has been leaked online. Ex-showroom prices of the faired motorcycle in its 2019 BS4 format start at Rs 1.70 lakh. Its naked avatar (Gixxer 250) goes at Rs 1.59 lakh.

Since the current-gen Gixxer and Gixxer SF 250 are relatively new on the market, the BS6 2020MY versions of the motorcycles do not bring any major difference. As highlighted in the brochure, full-LED headlamps, digital instrument console, dual-channel ABS, etc., will be part of the standard package. On the other hand, the BS6 versions of the lesser 160cc Gixxer and Gixxer SF were launched already at Rs 1.12 lakh and 1.22 lakh ex-showroom, respectively.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 BS6 – Specs

The 2020 Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 continues to draw power from a 249cc oil-cooled FI single-cylinder engine. The engineers have made slight changes to the power plant to make it compliant to the stringent emission norms. As a result, peak power (despite being roughly the same at 26bhp) comes at 300rpm later than before at 9300rpm. Maximum torque is rated as 22.2Nm at 7300rpm. The figure has gone down by 0.4Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 primarily rivalled the Honda CBR250R which will not be receiving BS6 update. The CBR250R was an excellent single-cylinder sportsbike despite being almost a decade old. Honda Motorcycle India has not shared any details of a potential successor yet but the Indian motorcycle community is eagerly waiting for one. The naked Suzuki Gixxer 250 has got a strong rival now in the form of the new Bajaj Dominar 250.

The Indian automotive industry was busy updating major products to the new BS6 emission standards when the coronavirus pandemic created further confusion on the market. As per rules, no BS4 vehicle can be legally registered in the country post 31 March 2020. To clear off leftover BS4 stock, dealerships were offering attractive discount offers.

However, the coronavirus scare has stopped potential buyers from visiting dealerships. Taking this into account, FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Association) has reached out to the apex court to seek an extension to the deadline — know more details.
