- Hyundai is now offering factory-scheduled free maintenance on new vehicles for three years or 36,000 miles.
- Offering complimentary maintenance, specifically of this length, is unusual for non-luxury manufacturers.
- The maintenance will include oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations and starts with 2020 models purchased on February 1 or later.
Hyundai is already known for having some of the most competitive warranty coverage on the market, and today the automaker announced that it’s expanding that offering to include complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles on all 2020 Hyundai vehicles purchased after February 1.
The complimentary maintenance includes oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations at factory-scheduled intervals. Hyundai’s warranty coverage already includes an impressive powertrain warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles and a limited warranty that covers five years or 60,000 miles, and the free maintenance on top of that is a significant move for a non-luxury manufacturer. Rivals Toyota and Volkswagen offer complimentary maintenance of two years or 25,000 miles and two years or 20,000 miles, respectively. GM brands pared back their complimentary maintenance plans for three years or 36,000 miles early last year; now GM only covers the first maintenance visit.
The updated offering puts Hyundai’s complimentary maintenance in line with Volvo, BMW, and Genesis for length of coverage, as they all offer three years or 36,000 miles. Those luxury brands are outdone by Lincoln with four years or 50,000 miles and Jaguar, which offers five years or 60,000 miles of complimentary maintenance.
Kia and Hyundai currently offer the same warranty coverage, but we have not heard whether Kia will also expand its coverage to include complimentary maintenance.
