Hero Electric will launch a new motorcycle at Auto Expo 2020. Here are a few first images of the electric motorcycle.
Hero Electric is one of the major EV brands participating in the 15th edition of the country’s biggest biennial automotive show — Auto Expo 2020. It is a known fact that the list of participants is not very overwhelming this year (even Hero MotoCorp is giving a miss) and the focus is more on electric vehicles and green mobility. In this regard, one might be able to see some good products for the future, including an all-new full-electric motorcycle from Hero Electric.
Ahead of its unveiling at Auto Expo 2020, spy images of the upcoming Hero Electric motorcycle have surfaced online. Even though its aesthetic details are heavily masked with make-do protective covers, one could make out the naked-sports styling with a trellis frame, 5-spoke alloy wheels, sharp rake angle, USD forks and belt-drive (common in electric two-wheelers). The EV certainly feels premium as per the standards of the Indian motorcycle market, at least in terms of design.
The exact specifications, range or any other relevant detail remain unknown at this point. However, rumours suggest that it would carry a price tag of around Rs 1.5 lakh with a claimed top speed of 80km/h and a range of around 120km on a full charge. The assumed figures may not suit the sporty styling of the motorcycle, but in the current scenario and above-mentioned price point, these are reasonable.
In typical modern-day electric-two-wheeler fashion, the upcoming Hero Electric product might sport a full-TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity and onboard diagnostics. The Li-ion battery pack and other electronics are neatly tucked in the centre. To go with the latest trend, the battery pack might be a swappable unit. Those who have an eye for details will notice a conventional lever and axial master cylinder at the place of the clutch lever. Hence, the EV might feel similar to riding a normal petrol CVT or an electric scooter.
This is the first motorcycle coming under the Ludhiana-based EV manufacturer. There will be no rivals to the unnamed Hero Electric product (except maybe the Revolt RV400) since India’s electric-motorcycle market is still at its infant stage. However, there would be alternatives at different price points such as the upcoming Ultraviolette F77.
When it comes to electric scooters, the Indian market is seeing a growing number of products across a wide price range. Ather Energy, the start-up which arguably makes the best e-scooters in the country, has recently launched the new 450X at a starting price of Rs 99,000 ex-showroom (Bangalore).
