MG Windsor EV Prices Hiked By Rs 50k – BaaS To Cost 40 Paisa / Km More

MG Windsor EV

Windsor EV has emerged as the top selling MG car in India, contributing more than 50% to overall sales

Launched last year, the Windsor EV has proven to be a goldmine for MG Motor. It is available at an affordable price point and comes with industry-first BaaS (Battery as a Service) ownership option. While contributing to the brand’s overall sales, Windsor EV has also helped increase MG’s market share in the electric segment.

MG Windsor price hiked (full purchase price option)

Just around four months have passed since the launch of Windsor EV. Prices have now been increased, indicating that the initial introductory pricing offer is no longer applicable. Windsor EV has three variants, all of which have witnessed a flat price hike of Rs 50,000. The base variant ‘Excite’ is now available at a starting price of Rs 14 lakh. The mid-spec variant ‘Exclusive’ will now cost Rs 15 lakh. Windsor EV top-spec ‘Essence’ variant gets a revised price tag of Rs 16 lakh.

While prices have been hiked under the full purchase option, it is unlikely to create any major impact on sales. Windsor EV is well-equipped and justifies the updated price range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. MG is offering lifetime warranty for the first owner, something that is quite advantageous for buyers.

Windsor EV buyers do not have to worry about things like battery issues and battery replacement costs. Early buyers will also be able to access free charging for one complete year at MG’s public charging stations. This ensures further savings for Windsor EV owners. Another assurance comes in the form of 60% buyback after 3 years / 45,000 kms.

BaaS Subscription rate increased to Rs 3.9 / Km

While the ex-showroom prices under BaaS remain unchanged, the subscription price has been increased by 40 paisa per km. The Ex-showroom prices under BaaS are Rs 9.99 lakh for Excite, Rs 10.99 lakh for Exclusive and Rs 11.99 lakh for Essence variant. These prices are the same as earlier under the BaaS ownership model. However, the per km subscription rate has been increased from Rs 3.5 to Rs 3.9. It is to note that this per km subscription cost is in addition to the charging cost.

It remains to be seen what impact the increased BaaS subscription rate has on sales. Market reports indicate that a significant percentage of Windsor EV sales are from the BaaS purchase model. The BaaS system has proven to be a gamechanger. MG Motor will certainly be keen to ensure that its BaaS program continues to be perceived as the best VFM option in the EV segment.

While prices have been hiked, there are no changes to the features and specs. MG Windsor EV is equipped with a 38-kWh battery pack that connects to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. It generates 134 hp and 200 Nm, with power sent to the front wheels. Users can access drive modes of Eco+, Eco, Normal, and Sport. Windsor EV has a decent range of 331 km. Charging is pretty quick with a DC fast charger, allowing users to load up to 80% in just around 40 minutes.
