With a dual motor AWD layout, Tata Harrier EV spied track testing, might be packing more performance than Mahindra XEV 9e
The cat is out of the bag and we know that Tata Motors is launching an electric version of Harrier soon. It will be close in appearance to what the company showcased at 2023 Auto Expo. Recent spy shots show Tata Harrier EV on a race track exercise at CoASTT High Performance Centre in Coimbatore. Let’s take a look.
Tata Harrier EV Spied Track Testing
Race track and Tata Harrier don’t sound right when put in a sentence. However, the new Harrier EV (electrified version of Harrier ICE) will come with a large battery pack and high-performance dual motor AWD drivetrain layout. Hence the performance quotient of this vehicle is quite high and Harrier EV looks like it belongs on a race track.
That’s exactly what seems to be happening. We have seen how agile Tata Motors EVs can get with Punch EV and Curvv EV. This characteristic is due to their low centre of gravity, courtesy of floor-mounted battery pack, and instantaneous electric torque. We even experienced Tata Punch EV on a handling track and returned impressed.
With Harrier EV, the performance ceiling is expected to be quite high, thanks to its dual motor layout. Speculations suggest more outright performance metrics than the immediate rival, Mahindra XEV 9e which boasts 286 PS and 380 Nm from a single motor powering only rear wheels with a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.8 seconds.
What to expect?
It will be interesting to see how much performance Tata Harrier EV brings to the table. Or the race track in this case. Now that Tata Harrier EV has been spied with a rear electric motor and more sophisticated rear independent suspension setup, Tata is carving out more off-road features as well. For starters, a recent leaked patent from Tata Motors shows an updated Terrain Response System with up to six modes, this time around.
The knurled rotary Terrain Response dial gets modes like Normal, Snow, Mud & Ruts, Sand or Desert, Rough or Rocky and what looks like an Individual Mode. Speculations also suggest active dampers or at least semi-active dampers to offer multiple characteristics ranging from soft & cushy to sporty and stable.
Where design is concerned, Tata Harrier EV will look vastly similar to Harrier ICE already on sale. There will be a new fascia with a few design distinctions including a closed grill. There will be more aerodynamic wheel designs that might go till 19-inches in size. Interiors will remain more or less, the same. Tata Motors is expected to unveil it this month and a launch will follow soon.
