  • BMW has announced that the 2021 M4 coupe will come standard with a 473-hp twin-turbo inline-six and a six-speed manual transmission.
  • There will also be a 503-hp Competition model, which will have an eight-speed automatic.
  • The new M4 will make its debut next month alongside the M3, and pricing should start at just over $70,000.

If you’re still upset about the 2021 BMW 4-series because of its gargantuan front grille, get over it, because the new rear-wheel-drive M4 coupe will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, and a convertible and hatchback Gran Coupe will arrive down the line. Additionally, there will be a more powerful Competition model, which will put out 503 horsepower.

Both the 2021 M3 and M4 will be powered by BMW’s new S58 twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, which was first introduced in the lightning-quick X3 M and X4 M. The standard M4’s inline-six will produce 473 horsepower, and it will come standard with the six-speed manual (#SaveTheManuals). The 503-hp Competition model will send power to the rear wheels through a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic.

The X3 M and X4 M SUVs, both equipped with the 503-hp six, launched to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds during Car and Driver testing, besting the previous-gen M3’s sprint to 60, so we can expect the new M3 and M4 will have some gut-punching acceleration. Later on, the 503-hp Competition models will be available with an all-wheel-drive system, which will provide for even more insane acceleration.
