Rent Yourself (or Your Loved One) a Really Great Car for Valentine's Day

  • Rental-car company Enterprise is offering exotic and high-end sports and luxury vehicles at 80 locations nationwide through its Exotic Car Collection.
  • The list of exotic brands on offer includes Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin. Also available are models from Porsche, Bentley, Mercedes-AMG, Range Rover, BMW, Audi, Rolls-Royce, and more.
  • Vehicle availability and rental prices vary greatly from location to location, and the most expensive models can cost more than $1000 per day.

Valentine’s Day is upon us. Look into the mirror and repeat: You are good. You are kind. I love you, you devil, and you deserve to have the ride of your dreams— even if it’s just for a day. Enterprise, the same company that proffers untold numbers of forgettable rental cars, can actually make your exotic-car fantasies come true.

Enterprise suggests that car lovers do something special this Valentine’s Day: rent a vehicle from its expensive but enticing Exotic Car Collection and take your special someone on a date. Yes, it’s a transparent marketing ploy, designed to raise awareness of this special cool-car program. But we like the basic idea nonetheless. Only, why limit yourself to Valentine’s Day? Enterprise’s exotic-car collection is offered all year round at some 80 locations nationwide from Beverly Hills, California, to Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Not Just Exotics

The program started in Los Angeles in 2006 offering luxury cars, and has grown to include most high-end brands and a broad array of pricey sports cars, sedans, crossovers, and SUVs. Only a handful of the vehicles on offer actually fit the definition of “exotic,” though. That short list includes the Aston Martin Vantage, Audi R8, BMW i8, Ferrari California, and Lamborghini Huracán. Also available are cars including the Porsche 911, Panamera, Cayman, and Cayenne; Chevy Corvette; Mercedes-AMG GT; Maserati Ghibli; Bentley Continental GT and Bentayga; Rolls-Royce Ghost; Range Rover Sport, and Jaguar F-type. They’re all pretty special rental units as well.

Beyond those relatively rare high-end models, the collection offers a bevy of vehicles that you’re apt to see on the road every day, but are compelling nonetheless; the BMW 3-series, 5-series, and 640i; Mercedes-Benz S-class and GLS; Tesla Model S: Camaro; Mustang; Challenger; various Audi sedans and crossovers; and even the Jeep Wrangler.

Beware: renting the cooler cars in the collection is not cheap, and pricing varies greatly based on location—as does the availability of any given model. We checked the cost of renting a Porsche 911 and found one for $601 per day in San Francisco, while in Nashville, you can get behind the wheel for just $317 a day. A Maserati Ghibli runs $395 per day in Scottsdale, Arizona, but just $232 in Houston, Texas. And we did find an Aston Martin Vantage for rent in San Jose, California. Cost: $1312 per diem.

While that may seem like a lot of coin, it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than actually purchasing a Vantage, which has a base price of $156,081. And after renting one, you can always claim it didn’t impress you and wouldn’t own one if you could. Even if that’s a lie.

We endorse this brand of exotic-car therapy and recommend you try it. Driving lifts the spirits. Horsepower heals. After all, you deserve a little wheel time in something above your station. Because you’re just so lovable, you devil you.
