Please don’t tell my boss, but I’ve been playing video games at my desk all morning. Again. I’ve answered no emails, two coworkers have already called me out on it, and I can see the line outside the HR office from behind my computer. I mean, it’s cars, so it shouldn’t be a big deal, right? Hold on, someone’s just tapped me on the shoulder.

Acura has launched a free-to-play browser-based arcade game to help promote its Less Talk, More Drive ad campaign. Beat That features each car from the commercial on six different tracks that dare you to be the fastest and challenge your friends as soon as the next race ends.

Each track is a hat tip to an iconic racing game from each car’s era. Cruise past palm trees in 8-bit Beach with the Acura NSX. Conquer icy conditions to keep from sliding off the cliff of Snowy Summit in the 2020 Acura RDX A-Spec. Pilot the Acura Type S concept through the futuristic tube of Cyber Tunnel.

To unlock the next car, you’ll need to be quick enough with the keyboard to beat a specific lap time. Beating the computer’s time is easy, but you might need cheat codes to get to the top of the global leaderboard. Players can also enable a ghost car and race against it to try to beat either the daily top 10 or all-time top 10 lap times. Sorry, honey, going to be at the office pretty late tonight.

Acura did a great job of modernizing some of our old arcade favorites. The starter track gives off a very Outrun-on-Sega vibe, and although it lacks other cars or any traffic, the functioning taillights are a nice touch. The raindrops falling over the Indy Yellow NSX are another detail that makes playing a little more fun. Other references to Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer, and Midnight Run are all fairly obvious to gamers without exciting any licensing lawyers.

Acura’s Beat That can be played on mobile devices and desktop computers. It’s also available on Facebook Instant Games. Share your fastest time with friends, family, or coworkers. Click these words to start racing.
