- Texas tuner Hennessey has installed a twin-turbo kit on a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette.
- The shop started taking orders for twin-turbo C8 Corvettes in December 2019 and claims it can make up to 1200 horsepower.
- The new mid-engine Corvette is powered by a 495-hp 6.2-liter V-8 engine.
Customers have started taking delivery of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette, and we’re starting to see them at dealerships and on the road. At launch, the mid-engine Corvette is powered by a naturally aspirated LT2 6.2-liter V-8, although the coming ZR1 variant will likely use a twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank engine and can be expected to put out well over 800 horsepower. Humans are impatient, though, and have already been slapping some turbos on their new C8s, including Texas tuning house Hennessey.
Hennessey started taking requests for twin-turbo Vettes back in December, and customers could tell the tuner how much horsepower they desired. We’re not sure how much power this orange C8 is packing, but those turbos sure are loud. It’s also obviously fitted with some sort of aftermarket exhaust system, too. Hennessey says that the car still has the factory throttle body and the rear trunk.
When we tested a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette, it launched to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and raced to the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph thanks to its 495-hp 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Hennessey has yet to reveal specs on this Z51-equipped C8, although we do know that the tuner is offering a twin-turbo 2020 Corvette with up to 1200 horsepower. We expect that the lower end will make somewhere between 600 and 700 horsepower.
A 700-hp supercharger kit will also be available. We’re not sure when customers will actually see finished cars, as Hennessey has not promised anything.
