Bajaj Triumph 200 cc motorcycle render
Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles announced a strategic partnership to develop a range of products in the medium displacement category (200 – 750 cc). Earlier this year, the two wheeler majors confirmed that the first product to come out of this association will be priced under INR 2 lakh.
The products to be developed as a part of this partnership will be carrying Triumph branding and they will be manufactured by Bajaj at its Chakan production facility. The Indo-British collaboration is expected to come up with different body styles on modular architectures but details are scarce as of now.
The first Bajaj Triumph motorcycle could be a retro-classic medium displacement offering aimed squarely at the upcoming next-generation Royal Enfield products. Our in-house design specialist Pratyush Rout has come up with a speculative rendering of the most affordable Triumph. He has envisioned it as an entry-level roadster with Bonneville hereditary.
Bajaj Triumph 200 cc motorcycle render
A Triumph Bonneville with a single-cylinder quarter-liter engine and an attractive price tag would be a very appealing proposition not only for India but also for other emerging markets in South East Asia and the mature European market. The motorcycle will target young riders who aspire to own a Triumph.
As the rendering suggests, a medium displacement Triumph Bonneville will adopt retro-classic styling, old-school circular headlamp and a flat single-piece seat. It would also be equipped with modern elements like digital instrument cluster, alloy wheels, disc brakes at either end with dual-channel ABS and LED illumination.
According to the agreement, Triumph Motorcycles take care of design, engineering and validation while Bajaj will be responsible for production and distribution (in markets where the Indian brand has a strong presence). The exact engine displacement has not been revealed yet but a single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor with a displacement in the 200 cc ballpark is the most likely scenario.
It is confirmed that the motorcycles out of this partnership will not carry Bajaj branding (the DTS-i sticker from Pulsar, on the crankcase is for illustration only in the render) but the Indian company will benefit from enhanced quantum of business and access to new export markets.
The first Bajaj Triumph motorcycle is not expected to be ready for the market before 2022. We expect the platform to also spawn adventure tourer and supersport body styles although it remains to be seen which one will be introduced first.
The medium displacement motorcycle segment has projected to grow at an impressive pace across the world and having competitive priced products in this segment would help Triumph increase its sales volume significantly.
