Electric or Bust: Jaguar Spills More Details on I-Type GT EV

Jaguar boss Rawdon Glover said the company’s new electric platform is not designed to accept hybrid setups or gas engines, per a report by Autocar.Glover also revealed that he hit 160 mph on a test track in the 986-hp top-of-the-line version of the upcoming I-type grand tourer.According to Glover, the design will remain remarkably similar to the dramatic Type 00 concept revealed last year.Jaguar’s rebranding and plans for an electric grand tourer—previewed by last year’s Type 00 concept—have been polarizing, but there’s no going back for the British automaker. In an interview with Autocar, Jaguar’s managing director Rawdon Glover explained why the brand must commit to EVs and divulged a few more details about the upcoming electric GT, which might adopt the name I-type.Jaguar’s Future Is Electric OnlyOther automakers have reacted to cooling growth rates for EV demand by postponing or canceling plans for new electric models. For example, earlier today Maserati confirmed it’s ditching the MC20 Folgore electric supercar project. But Glover said that “there is no flexibility” for Jaguar since the Jaguar Electric Architecture that will underpin its entire future lineup cannot support hybrid or gas powertrains. JaguarA prototype for the electric Jaguar four-door grand tourer.”We made the decision back in 2021 to have an electric architecture dedicated to us,” he explained. “There isn’t the opportunity to put a V-8 into it or something else.” Glover expressed confidence in the EV market, however, stating that “a lot of things will change” over the next decade and that “EV will be the right platform for us and the powertrain of choice” for the market. “Advancements in technology and infrastructure are going to make a big difference,” he predicted.Lofty Power and Price In regards to the car itself, Jaguar’s head honcho said he had driven the range-topping version of the I-type on the test track at up to 160 mph. Autocar reported this variant produces 986 horsepower, and Glover described it as the “most fun I’ve had” while serving atop the brand. “It was stunning in terms of its speed, its acceleration, its performance, but also how it delivered the power with a real sense of character,” he said. Despite the heady power figures, the I-type will not be designed as a sports car. Instead, Glover sees it as a car that “you can drive confidently at pace for extended periods and still come out feeling great.”While the GT car will ride on the new dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, Glover confirmed it will share its electric motors and battery with other JLR models. “Economically, there’s no way around that,” Glover conceded. We wouldn’t be surprised if some of the I-type’s components are shared with, say, the upcoming Land Rover Range Rover EV.Illustration by Avarvarii|Car and DriverA render of how the production version of the I-type could look. The design won’t be a significant departure from the Type 00 concept, although the production car will sprout a second pair of doors. “There is strong lineage” between the concept and production models, most notably with the proportions, long hood, front fascia, and the taillight graphic, which consists of a series of horizontal lines that Jaguar is calling the “Strikethrough.” The Type 00 concept’s cabin has a pair of large screens that could completely fold out of sight, and perhaps something similar could reach production, as Glover said that the car won’t be “bombarding the driver with technology.”While Jaguar had previously said the electric GT would hit the road in late 2026, Autocar now reports the Jaguar will be revealed by the end of this year and start production in the middle of 2026. We had previously expected the starting price for the I-type to be around $200,000, but it could end up being significantly lower, with Glover quoting a price of roughly $128,000. Jaguar’s GT will be the first of three new models, with the next two debuts expected to be a large sedan and an SUV.More on Jaguar’s FutureCaleb Miller began blogging about cars at 13 years old, and he realized his dream of writing for a car magazine after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University and joining the Car and Driver team. Maserati MC20 Folgore Is Canceled After Five Years of Gestation

Maserati has officially canceled plans for an electric MC20 Folgore supercar. The MC20 Folgore was originally announced in 2020 and was supposed to finally be launched in 2025.A tri-motor powertrain would have churned out at least 700 horsepower, but now the MC20 will continue exclusively with its twin-turbocharged V-6 powertrain.UPDATE 3/6/25, 2:25 p.m.: This story has been updated with a statement from a Maserati spokesperson.Once known for the roar of V-8 engines, Maserati has spent the past couple of years transitioning away from internal combustion and toward an all-electric future. But one element of those plans has now been scrapped after Stellantis recently canceled a roughly $1.5 billion investment in the brand. Maserati had aimed to introduce the MC20 Folgore, an electric version of its slinky supercar, this year. Instead, as first reported by Autocar, the MC20 Folgore has been officially canceled. MaseratiMaserati first announced its intention to create an electric supercar way back in 2020 when it first revealed the gas-powered MC20. At the time, the Italian automaker said an electric version would arrive shortly after the V-6-engined car went on sale and would pack a 700-hp tri-motor powertrain. But when the MC20 finally hit the streets for the 2022 model year, there was no news about the Folgore version.Last year, Maserati gave us an update on the MC20 Folgore, revealing that it would be launched in 2025. But that project has been thrown in the scrap heap, with the company saying that the decision was “due to a perceived lack of commercial interest.” Maserati further explained that “Market studies for the super sports car segment and especially for MC20 customers has demonstrated that they are very keen on driving powerful ICE engines” and that they “are not ready to switch to BEVs for the foreseeable future.”Autocar also reported that, instead of the Folgore, Maserati will give the gas-powered MC20 a thorough update that could include some of the upgrades found on the MC20 GT2 Stradale. The cancellation of the MC20 Folgore as well as the retraction of funding by parent company Stellantis calls into question Maserati’s greater transition toward electrification, as well as the health of the brand as a whole. Last year, Maserati confirmed that the MC20 Folgore would be followed by a large electric SUV in 2027 and an electric successor to the long-running Quattroporte sedan, which had been delayed to 2028 from its originally scheduled 2024 launch. Given the setbacks Maserati’s EVs have already experienced, however, it wouldn’t be terribly surprising for the plans that Maserati announced last year to have already shifted.StellantisThe Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is related to the Maserati MC20.Another interesting factor in the news of the MC20 Folgore’s death is the status of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, which shares its bones with the MC20. While the first gas-powered 33 Stradale was delivered last fall, the Alfa Romeo was also supposed to come with an electric version with 750 hp and a 240-mile range. However, with only 33 units of the supercar being built worldwide, it’s unclear if Alfa Romeo will follow through on the investment needed for only a handful of electric 33 Stradales.More on MaseratiCaleb Miller began blogging about cars at 13 years old, and he realized his dream of writing for a car magazine after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University and joining the Car and Driver team. 2027 Volvo EX60 Electric Crossover Teased for the First Time

Volvo has shown us our first sneak peek of the upcoming EX60 electric crossover, which is set to make its debut in 2026.When it shows up, the EX60 will launch Volvo’s SPA3 platform which the company says will allow for cheaper and more efficient cars. The EX60 will be a new electric compact crossover that sits alongside the internal-combustion XC60 in Volvo’s lineup.Volvo has given us our first glimpse of the upcoming EX60, which will be an electric equivalent to the brand’s incredibly popular XC60 combustion model. The car was announced last September, but this is the first time the automaker has shown any preview of the design. The teaser came just before the 25-minute mark of Volvo’s recent ES90 electric sedan launch video (shown below). It shows what looks to be a nearly fully covered clay model and the brand’s instantly recognizable vertical taillight design. Previous claims from Volvo indicate that the new model is slated to arrive sometime in 2026.When it arrives, the EX60 will debut Volvo’s SPA3 production architecture, which is set to succeed the SPA2 platform underpinning the new Volvo EX90 and ES90. This incoming platform is meant to be completely modular, allowing for smaller and larger vehicles to be built on the same platform and, in turn, reduce production costs. Volvo claims that one of the other defining features of SPA3 will be its structural battery packs that will further reduce weight and cost. Little surrounding the EX60 is set in stone at this point but we expect it to roughly match the gas version’s dimensions while taking styling cues from the rest of Volvo’s EV lineup. As with the XC90 and EX90, we expect the electric 60 will be considerably more expensive than the traditional model—with pricing likely starting in the ballpark of $60,000. 2026 Genesis GV70’s Price Rises by up to $3235 After Refresh

The 2026 Genesis GV70 benefits from a refresh, but its prices have also risen by up to $3235 as a result. The compact luxury SUV still offers a 300-hp turbo four and a 375-hp twin-turbo V-6, which start at $49,345 and $64,865, respectively. Genesis hasn’t yet announced pricing for the Electrified GV70, but we expect it will start at around $67K when it eventually goes on sale. The Genesis GV70 gets a little prettier for the 2026 model year, and its interior is improved with a new dash-spanning display. The visual tweaks and newly added features are part of the compact luxury SUV’s mid-cycle refresh, bringing price hikes as high as $3235, but they vary based on the trim level.GV70 Prices are (Mostly) HigherFor 2026, the GV70 lineup starts with the $49,345 base 2.5T model, which still features a 300-hp 2.5-liter turbo four and standard all-wheel drive. That price is $1695 higher than last year, but unlike before, the entry-level model now comes with a 27-inch OLED screen on the dash and snazzy microlens-array headlights. Stepping up to the 2.5T Select pushes the starting price to $52,335 (up $1685), but it adds myriad power adjustments, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless phone charger. The 2.5T versions of the GV70 also come in Sport Advanced and Sport Prestige trims, which start at $56,885 and $60,245, respectively. The former model receives the highest price hike, rising $3235 versus last year. Meanwhile, the latter is only $685 more expensive. With the Advanced, Genesis includes leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and a Bang & Olufsen stereo. The Prestige adopts 21-inch wheels, styling bits that suggest it’s sportier, and there are more leather interior surfaces, plus a third climate zone. For those who want the most powerful version of the GV70, Genesis continues to offer it with a 375-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6. For 2026, it drops the 3.5T Sport that previously started at $60,250. Instead, the mightier models now start at $64,865 for the Sport Advanced. While that means it costs $4615 more to get the V-6, Genesis appears to try and offset that by making the Advanced trim’s price $1785 lower than last year. The Sport Prestige still resides at the top of the GV70 hierarchy, and its $71,545 initial ask is up by $1695.EV GV70 Pricing to ComeGenesis also updated the Electrified GV70 for 2026, giving it a bigger 84.0-kWh battery with more range as well as a newly standard NACS charge port. However, the company hasn’t yet announced pricing for the electric version. That should be announced closer to its on-sale date, which should follow the gas GV70’s spring debut.Related StoriesEric Stafford’s automobile addiction began before he could walk, and it has fueled his passion to write news, reviews, and more for Car and Driver since 2016. 2025 Honda CB350 RS & H’ness CB350 Launched With New Colours

2025 Honda CB350 RSHMSI (Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India) has been making a lot of headlines in the recent past. The company in February 2025, surpassed Hero MotoCorp in terms of YTD sales when compared to sales performance last year. Now, the company just updated H’Ness CB350 and CB350 RS to MY25 versions. Let’s take a closer look.
    2025 Honda CB350 RS & H’ness CB350
One look at the 350cc to 450cc motorcycle sales charts, we can see that Royal Enfield absolutely dominates this segment with a slew of 350cc motorcycles. Challenging these Royal Enfield motorcycles are Honda’s CB350 lineup consisting of the CB350 (Classic), H’ness CB350 and CB350 RS.
The company just updated 2025 Honda CB350 RS and H’ness CB350 with a bunch of new colours and graphics that transform the overall look and appeal of both these machines. Honda is yet to announce prices for these motorcycles, which was not reflected on the website. There is a small probability of prices staying the same to be competitive against immediate rivals.
    2025 Honda CB350 RS Colours
    Changes with 2025 CB350 RS
CB350 RS gets a slightly sportier look when compared to H’ness CB350 and CB350 (Classic). It looks slightly Scrambler-esque, which is probably its biggest draw. With MY25 update, Honda has refreshed the colour palette and is mono-tone only and devoid of graphics, unlike the 2025 H’ness CB350.
Top of the fuel tank gets an interesting patch to add some contrast. Where colours are concerned, DLX trim levels offers Pearl Deep Ground Grey and Pearl Igneous Black shades. The higher-spec DLX Pro trim offers two extra colours on top of DLX – Mat Axis Grey Metallic and Rebel Red Metallic.
    2025 Honda H’ness CB350
    Changes with 2025 H’ness CB350
Starting with H’ness CB350, Honda is offering new colours across the trim lineup – DLX, DLX Pro and DLX Pro Chrome. Base DLX trim gets Pearl Deep Ground Grey and Pearl Igneous Black. DLX Pro trim gets the additional Rebel Red Metallic shade. DLX Pro Chrome colours are the most special as they get attractive graphics on the fuel tank as well.
The new colours with DLX Pro Chrome are Athletic Blue Metallic, Mat Massive Grey Metallic and Pearl Nightstar Black. These colour variants also get Chrome highlights which can be seen on front and rear mudguards. 2025 Honda H’ness CB350 lack fork gaiters for the front suspension, lending a cleaner look.
    2025 Honda H’ness CB350 Colours
    OBD2B compliant powertrain
It has to be noted that both these motorcycles now miss out on custom packs to transform the looks and functionality. Where powertrains are concerned, 2025 Honda CB350 RS and H’ness CB350 will be equipped with the same 348cc single-cylinder air cooled engine with 20.78 bhp of peak power and 30 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. This engine will be OBD2B compliant. More

Ola Electric Motorcycle Deliveries May Get Delayed – Homologation Pending

Ola Roadster X Electric BikeElectric two-wheelers have to pass various tests as part of the homologation process before the Type Approval Certificate (TAC) is issued
Last month in February, Ola Electric had launched its Roadster X electric bike range. A total of five variants are currently on offer, available in the range of Rs 85,000 to Rs 1.85 lakh. Deliveries of Roadster X were scheduled to commence from mid-March 2025. However, new report reveals that the bike is yet to be homologated.
    Battery, powertrain issues
The report states that Ola Roadster X electric bike has multiple issues. It includes the battery pack, thermal management, battery management system (BMS) and the electric motor. This could potentially explain why the homologation process for Ola Roadster X is yet to be initiated. The homologation process for electric two-wheelers can take anywhere between three to six months to complete.
Until the homologation process is complete, a vehicle is not considered roadworthy. It’s only after the vehicle has passed all the tests that the Type Approval Certificate is issued. For electric two-wheelers, various tests are conducted during the homologation exercise. The list includes range test, top speed test, gradeability test, acceleration test, battery and electrical systems safety tests, structural and durability tests, braking and stability tests, fire safety tests, charging and connector compliance tests, etc.
The size of the battery pack of Ola Roadster X could be causing the issues, adds the report. Roadster X is available with 4 battery pack options – 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, 4.5 kWh and 9.1 kWh. It appears that the problem could be more applicable for the 9.1 kWh battery pack. Ola manufactures this in-house and calls it the 4680 Bharat cell. It is reported that the existing thermal management system is not proving effective in dissipating heat. Such systems need to work optimally to prevent battery-related fire incidents.
Ola Roadster X deliveries could be delayed?
If the reports are true, deliveries of the Ola Roadster X electric bike could be delayed. It remains to be seen how fast Ola can come up with solutions to fix the issues with the bike. Even then, several weeks will be needed for the homologation exercise to complete.
Ola Roadster X electric bike is an ambitious project that aims to be a gamechanger for the motorcycle segment in India. With five variants, Ola has ensured that the bike is accessible to a large segment of users. The 2.5 kWh base variant is affordably priced and matches the pricing of ICE motorcycles in 100cc to 125cc range. Even the base variant has an IDC certified range of 140 km. Top speed is also quite good at 105 km/h.
Users who want to unlock enhanced performance and higher range can choose the Roadster X+ 4.5 kWh or the Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh variant. The former has a range of 252 km, whereas the top variant can travel an astounding 501 km on a full charge. Both these variants have peak power output of 11 kW (15 PS) and top speed of 125 km/h. 0 to 40 km/h is achievable in just 2.7 seconds. All variants of Ola Roadster X electric bike are available with battery warranty of 3 years / 50,000 km.

Ultraviolette Reveals Future Roadmap – New Electric Bikes, Scooters Teased

Ultraviolette TeaserWhile Ultraviolette has been operating in India’s niche premium high performance electric motorcycle genre for some time now, the company is taking significant strides in the mainstream market. We saw this with the launch of Tesseract electric scooter and Shockwave electric bike. Ultraviolette also teased a bunch of new products as well. Let’s take a look.
    Ultraviolette Reveals Future Roadmap
At their Fast Forward India event held in Bengaluru yesterday, on 5th March 2025, Ultraviolette launched Tesseract electric scooter for an introductory price of Rs 1.2 lakh (Ex-sh) and Shockwave electric enduro bike for an introductory price of Rs 1.5 lakh (Ex-sh). Introductory price for Tesseract is limited to first 10,000 buyers and Shockwave for first 1,000 buyers.
    Ultraviolette Tesseract
With these electric offerings, Ultraviolette has just entered the mainstream segment and aims to carve out a niche for itself. The company’s key differentiating factor will be technology, features and equipment along with performance and creating a community of like minded buyers, something which Ultraviolette has achieved with their F77 motorcycles.
Now that the company has launched Tesseract and Shockwave, Ultraviolette is also expanding its dealer network. The company has expanded its presence to 13 cities across India with their full-fledged Space Stations (showrooms) and Space Pods (touch points for test rides). Ultraviolette has showcased their Flight Plan (future roadmap), teasing probable future products.
    Ultraviolette Shockwave
    Ultraviolette Flight Plan
As revealed in their roadmap, Ultraviolette has segment its current and future portfolio into five series of electric 2W vehicles. These are called F Series, S Series, L Series, X Series and B Series. Ultraviolette CEO and co-founder, Narayan Subramaniam affirmed with this roadmap that B Series will get two vehicles, while the rest get three vehicles each.
In company’s analogy, F Series is associated with fast bikes, S Series with scooters and L Series with lightweight bikes, while the ethos of X Series and B Series will be revealed in the future. Currently, Ultraviolette has F77 Mach 2 and F77 SuperStreet in F Series, Tesseract in S Series and Shockwave in L Series.
    Ultraviolette Reveals Future Roadmap
Currently, Indian scooter segment has around 14% of EV penetration and it favours scooters priced under Rs 1.5 lakh (Ex-sh). Ultraviolette Tesseract not only fits into this price bracket, but brings quite an extensive range of features and technology that none of the scooters in India, or even the world, currently offer.
Also, Ultraviolette is offering the introductory offer with Tesseract to the first 10,000 buyers. This suggests the company is expecting big volumes. While Ultraviolette is pushing into electric scooter genre, Ola Electric is pushing into the electric motorcycle space with flagship Roadster Pro promising numbers that go beyond Ultraviolette’s F77 range at half the price point. Either way, this is not a bad time for OEMs to attempt something big in Indian 2W EV space. More

Automakers Get Monthlong Exemption from Trump’s 25 Percent Tariffs

The “Big Three” domestic automakers have been granted a one-month exemption from the 25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico. Ford, GM, and Stellantis (formerly Chrysler), whose vehicles comply with the USMCA, now have until April 2 to prepare for the taxes to go into effect. The tariffs, which went into effect yesterday, have caused concerns about significantly increasing production costs as well as raising new-car prices.A day after the Trump administration implemented 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico, the White House announced that automakers who comply with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) get a 30-day exemption, which is set to lift on April 2.”We spoke with the Big Three [automakers]. We are going to give a one-month exemption on any autos coming through USMCA. Reciprocal tariffs will still go into effect on April 2, but at the request of the companies associated with USMCA, the president is giving them an exemption for one month so they are not at an economic disadvantage,” U.S. press secretary Karoline Leavitt said today during a White House press briefing. The three domestic automakers include Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis (formerly Chrysler). Leavitt confirmed that representatives from each company spoke to Trump yesterday to request the exemption. CNBC reported that Ford CEO Jim Farley and chairman Bill Ford as well as GM CEO Mary Barra and Stellantis chairman John Elkann were involved with the call.CLAUDIO CRUZ|Getty ImagesThe Trump administration announced the pause but didn’t specify the automotive imports that it covers. However, it’s expected that both auto parts and new vehicles are included in the exemption. It also seems unlikely that each automaker will be able to dramatically alter their production process and supply chains in the 30-day window. When Leavitt was asked about that, she said that Trump “told them they should get on it, start investing, start moving production here to the United States of America where they will pay no tariff. That’s the ultimate goal.”This isn’t the first time Trump postponed the 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico. At the start of February, the president and leaders from both countries agreed to a separate 30-day pause, which was lifted yesterday, March 4. However, the latest pause only applies to companies that comply with the USMCA, and concerns remain that if or when the tariffs do go into effect, they’ll significantly increase manufacturing costs as well as raise the prices of new cars. According to a report by the Detroit Free Press, some analysts believe new-car prices could rise by between $1000 to $9000.Related StoriesEric Stafford’s automobile addiction began before he could walk, and it has fueled his passion to write news, reviews, and more for Car and Driver since 2016.
