Earlier, a type approval document filed by Hero MotoCorp at the NCT New Delhi’s Transport Department for registration was leaked online. The certificate mentions a new Rally Edition as well as the regular model.2022 Hero Xpulse 200 4V Rally EditionThis reveals that the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer is not only developing an all-new Rally Edition but also an updated Rally Kit for the existing Xpulse customers. Hero already retails a rally kit for Xpulse 200 2V at a price of Rs 38,000. However, the new Rally kit is expected to be more advanced than the existing one and will comprise components added in the upcoming Xpulse Rally Edition.The document further reveals dimensions of the Xpulse 200 4V with Rally kit and the new Rally Edition of the adventure tourer. As per the certificate, the bike with the Rally Kit will measure 2243mm, 850mm and 1308mm in length, width and height, respectively. On the other hand, the Rally Edition is bigger with its length, width and height measuring 2255mm, 850mm, and 1320mm, respectively.2022 Hero Xpulse 200 4V Rally Edition – Unveiled By Team Hero MotoSports in presence of CS SantoshWheelbase of the Rally Kit has been increased to 1419mm whereas the Rally Edition will receive an even bigger wheelbase at 1427mm. Increased dimensions could be the result of increased suspension travel at both ends. Standard Xpulse 200 gross weight stands at 288 kgs. The Rally kit version has GVW of 289kg while the Rally Edition GVW stands at 290kg. Both iterations will be based on Xpulse 200 4V.We expect ground clearance as well as seat height of both the Rally kit and Rally Edition to be greater than the regular model. XPulse 200 4V Rally Edition will feature longer travel suspension, a raised handlebar, wire-spoked wheels shod with knobby dual-purpose tyres and a longer side-stand to compensate for the additional height.Expected Powertrain Specs & PriceNo updates are expected to be made on the powertrain. Powering the current Xpulse 200 4V is a 199.6cc single-cylinder, air-cooled that makes 19 bhp and 17.35 Nm of peak torque. This unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. It was rigged with wires connected to testing equipment strapped to the pillion seat. The test mule was spotted cruising comfortably on a flyover. It looks production-ready with very minimal camouflage. It is a conventional telescopic fork but on the Hunter 350, it gets fork gators, hinting to us that it might be pitted as a scrambler-style bike. The rear gets twin shock absorbers. It also gets the same alloy wheel design as the Meteor 350 but Royal Enfield can change the wheel sizes on Hunter 350 or retain 19″ size at front and 17″ size at the rear.All the lights including the turn indicators will get halogens owing to its low price bracket. It gets a single-piece seat instead of a split-seat setup. Hunter 350 also gets a stubby exhaust which looks shorter in length and narrower too.Royal Enfield will equip it with disc brakes at both ends, but it is not yet known whether it will get single-channel or dual-channel ABS. We have also spotted multiple instrument clusters on Hunter 350. Some have a tripper screen while others don’t. Hunter 350 might drop the tripper screen on the final model due to chip shortage.Royal Enfield Hunter 350Royal Enfield Hunter 350 – CompetitionBut there’s something missing in the equation that Royal Enfield is typically associated with, size. Royal Enfield’s new bike gets a lean and athletic body while the rest of the portfolio looks much bigger in size. Hunter 350 doesn’t look like a big motorcycle at all. It doesn’t have the sense of substantialness that Royal Enfield motorcycles are associated with. Hunter 350 will be pitted as an entry-level offering by Royal Enfield. So, it attracts a lot of customers that are upgrading from a Pulsar 150 or something.But making it smaller will also reduce the overall weight and this will attract a lot of first-time bike buyers that would have scoffed at 185 – 205 kg weight of other Royal Enfield bikes. Thus attracting a lot more footfall into their showrooms. Hunter 350 is expected to launch on August 7th. A total of 3,231 units were sold in June 2022, as compared to about 359 units in the corresponding period last year. Sales have declined MoM. In May 2022, sales were at 3,787 units. This is a decline of 14.68% MoM.Ather continued to expand operations, adding new experience centres in Mangalore (Karnataka) and Thane (Maharashtra). SBI has been chosen for the job, as it has the largest banking network in the country. This will help accelerate EV adoption across the country. To promote the brand, Ather has partnered with Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). It will be hosting the upcoming edition of TNPL as an associate partner.While Ather has stated that it is witnessing strong demand for its electric scooters across the country, challenges related to supply chain continue to impact operations in an adverse manner. Ather is working closely with its suppliers to ensure that effects of demand-supply gap could be minimized. The company is hopeful that the situation will start to improve in the coming months.New Ather 450 Plus, 450X specsUpgraded versions of Ather scooters will be getting a larger battery pack. As of now, Ather 450X is equipped with a 2.9 kWh battery pack. The newer model will have a 3.66 kWh battery pack, as revealed in leaked type approval certificate. New versions of Ather scooter will also have a more powerful motor that will offer an additional 0.4kW of max output. Current 450X has a 6kW PMS motor that generates 26 Nm of torque.With the larger battery pack, range of the Ather 450 Plus will increase to 108 km. Range of the existing model is 100 km. 450X newer model will have a range of 146 km, as compared to 116 km of the existing model. Seat height can be expected to be close to that of 650 twins. Rider seat section looks wide and snug, but the relatively narrow pillion seat may not be that comfortable. This is especially true in case of longer journeys. Rider fatigue is expected to be minimal with ergonomically placed handlebar and forward-set foot pegs.Super Meteor 650 specsWhile 650 twins have standard telescopic forks, Super Meteor 650 gets USD forks at front. At the rear, the bike has twin shock absorbers. Braking setup comprises disc brakes at both ends, integrated with ByBre callipers and dual-channel ABS. While this test mule has been spotted with alloy wheels, it is possible that wire-spoke wheels may also be offered at the time of launch. The test mule can be seen with road-biased tyres.Powering Super Meteor 650 will be the 648cc parallel-twin, air-oil-cooled motor that does duty on 650 twins. It generates 47.5 PS of max power and 52 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed constant-mesh transmission.In comparison to Interceptor and Continental GT that are available at a starting price of around Rs 2.90 lakh and Rs 3.05 lakh respectively, Super Meteor 650 could be launched at a price of Rs 3.50 lakh.       TVS Ronin offers a unique mix of motorcycle genres without adhering to stereotypesNew TVS RoninTVS has launched the Ronin in India. It was speculated earlier that it would be named Zeppelin or Retron as hinted by TVS’ word puzzle. But TVS used the one name that was actually not in the word puzzle, good job TVS. It is a scrambler-style motorcycle with a mix of multiple motorcycle genres fused into one bike. But, where does it fit in? What should we compare it to? Ronin is trying too hard to be the Jack of all trades. But looking at Ronin, it seems to be the master of none. It could have been a lot of things. A proper cruiser that brought this dying segment back to life, an ADV that everyone wants or even a street bike or a proper scrambler. But in pursuit of uniqueness, we’re afraid that TVS Ronin might come off as ‘devoid of character’.Bajaj Pulsar 250 Vs TVS Ronin 225 Vs Bajaj Dominar 250In terms of pricing, it falls around Bajaj’s popular Pulsar F250 and N250. It also coincides with Bajaj Dominar 250. Both Pulsar F250 and N250 are powered by a 249cc single-cylinder engine with 2V making 24.1 bhp at 8750 RPM and 21.5 Nm at 6500 RPM. This engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox just like Ronin but is more powerful and has more torque too.Bajaj Pulsar 250 Vs TVS Ronin 225 Vs Bajaj Dominar 250If we bring Dominar’s KTM derived 248.8cc engine into the picture, it is far more potent than TVS Ronin. This single-cylinder engine with 4V makes 26.63 bhp at 8500 RPM and 23.5 Nm at 6500 RPM and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.What Can We Expect?In Ronin’s keynote, TVS stressed how low-speed rideability and low-end torque were paramount in the development. The torque figures reflect the same. Ronin makes 20 Nm of max torque at just 3750 RPM. It is almost half the speed where this engine is making its peak power. Bajaj Pulsar 250 makes its peak torque at 8750 RPM and Dominar 250 at 6500 RPM. So, TVS might have an Ace up its sleeves.All in all, for features it offers over the competition like adjustable levers, an integrated starter generator, 41mm USD forks, riding modes and turn-by-turn navigation, TVS Ronin appears to be pricey. At Rs. 1.70 lakh for Ronin TD, it could be dangerously close to the upcoming Royal Enfield’s Hunter 350.Looking at Ronin on paper, TVS would have been better-off with an ADV based on the potent Apache 200 4V. It would have been profitable too and would slot between Hero XPulse 200 4V and Suzuki V-Strom SX 250. Like Aston Martin created the Vulcan with most parts sourced from other cars in their portfolio. Vieste 300 has a 278.2 cc motor that makes 18.7 hp at 6,500 rpm and 22 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Clearly, Aprilia SR Max250 HPE is better equipped even with a small displacement motor. However, Keeway shouldn’t be worried, as Aprilia SR Max250 HPE is unlikely to be launched here anytime soon. Priced at Rs 2.99 lakh, Keeway Vieste 300 does have the price advantage.Aprilia SR Max 250cc ScooterUsers can expect optimal ride comfort with Aprilia SR Max250 HPE, as the scooter has wide, pulled back handlebar and comfy seats with thick foam padding. Rider seat section comes with raised back support for extra comfort.
