    The electric vehicle (EV) space has been gradually but surely gathering steam in India. There has been a lot of buzz regarding the launch of EVs from Tesla Inc. ever since company CEO Elon Musk announced that it would officially enter the Indian market at some point later this year.
    Earlier this year, the American EV manufacturer registered in India as Tesla India Motors And Energy Private Limited with its headquarters in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The company has also decided to set up shop in three big metro cities initially- Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru.
    Spy shots of the brand’s entry-level electric car- Model 3 has already been spotted testing on Indian roads on multiple occasions in the past few months. Now, an undisguised testing prototype of Model Y has been spotted on the country roads. As seen in the images below, the test mule of Model Y was seen wearing a blue colour scheme similar to Model 3 prototypes spotted earlier.
    Exterior Styling
    Model Y is based on the same platform as Model 3. While the latter gets a compact sedan body style, the former is a typical compact coupe-style SUV. From the outset, Model Y looks like a jacked-up version of Model 3 with plenty of similarities in design. The front end of both cars is very similar with the same set of angular LED headlights, integrated DRLs and nose.

    The front bumper of Model Y is a bit flatter and sportier than that seen in Model 3 which is sleeker. As usual, the lower bumper features fog lamps and air intake vents. The side profile of Model Y gets the same creases as well as alloy wheels. Like Model 3, Model Y also gets a tinted black glass roof.
    Features & Performance
    Inside the cabin, Model Y flaunts a minimalistic interior with a simple dashboard and centre console minus all complications. The highlight, however, is a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment display that incorporates controls for all features.
    Other notable features include electric adjustable front seats, heated front and rear seats, a high-quality 14-speaker sound system, HEPA air filtration system and more. Interestingly, Tesla offers Model Y in a 5-seat as well as a 7-seat configuration if one is willing to forego the car’s luggage space.
    The car features a dual-motor setup with a motor on each axle making it an AWD car. It can reach a top speed of 217 kmph while a 0-96 kmph acceleration is rated at just 4.8 seconds. The high autonomy battery pack returns a range of almost 525 km on a single charge.

    Maruti Dzire Electric Kit Price Rs 5 Lakh – Launched By Northway Motorsport

    Electric vehicles (EVs) will replace conventional automobiles powered by internal combustion engines in the long run. The transition process has already begun and gathered pace over the recent past. However, battery-powered vehicles currently form a very small portion of total mobility solutions in India.
    In order to bring down emission levels, many pre-existing vehicles will have to be converted to electric power sources in the near future. However, limitation of such EV conversion kits has been a hindrance up until now. Pune-based Northway Motorsport has launched EV conversion kits for both passenger and commercial vehicles.
    Maruti Dzire EV Conversion Kit
    These are plug and play kits, says the maker. You don’t need to change anything else, except for removing the petrol engine from the Dzire, and install the EV kit. It uses the same mounting points as the petrol engine. The functionalities of other features like instrument console, AC, audio system, or even the manual transmission – all remains unaffected by this EV kit installation.
    Conversion kit for Dzire
    For Dzire, the firm has launched two separate conversion kits- Drive EZ and Travel EZ meant city and long-distance commutes. Both kits offer a single-charge range of 120 km and 250 km respectively.
    Maruti Dzire EV Conversion Kit
    While Drive EZ gets a charging time of 5-6 hours, charging time for Travel EZ is rated at 8-10 hours. Top speeds have been limited to 80 kmph for commercial purposes and 140 kmph for private usage.

    Bookings for Drive EZ range has commenced at a token amount of Rs 25,000 with the final price of the conversion kit to be pegged around Rs 5-6 lakh. Bookings for Travel EZ range are expected to commence soon.
    Conversion Kit for Ace
    Northway Motorsport has launched two conversion kits each for Maruti Dzire and Tata Ace. Starting with the commercial vehicle, there are two ranges of conversion kits on offer with Ace- Shaandaar and Damdaar, the latter offering a higher range on a single charge although no specific details of a battery pack or electric motor are available. The Shaandaar EV conversion kit offers a range of 80-100km and is primarily designed for intra-city commutes.

    Specifications of a battery pack or electric motor are not known as of now. Standard charging time is pegged at five to six hours for a full range while express charging time is rated at two hours. Top speed for private use is capped at 100 kmph while that for commercial usage has been limited to 80 kmph. The Damdaar range offers a higher battery capacity paired to a similar motor which offers a range of 160-190 kms on a single charge.
    The standard charging time for Damdaar battery pack is six to eight hours whereas express charging time is rated at two hours. As of now, only the Shaandaar range is available for order. Interested consumers can book the consumer kit at a token amount of Rs 25,000 whereas the final cost of the conversion kit is slated to lie between Rs 4.5-5.0 lakh.

    Service And Network
    Northway Motorsport has partnered with Bhartiya EV or BEV to setup charging infrastructure as well as service points across India. In the first phase, the company aims to setup the dealer and charging network across Maharashtra. This is expected to be done in the coming 3-7 months. Post that the company will expand to other cities of India.
    Though they will open dealers and service outlets, Northway Motorsport claims that users could still visit their OEM dealerships for parts and regular service. However, it remains to be seen if Maruti or Tata authorized dealers will provide spares and service to such converted vehicles. More

    India is a well-known car manufacturing hub, but building supercars is not our specialty. However, there are a few Indian startups that wants to change this perception. Mean Metal Motors (MMM), an electric vehicle startup based out of Bangalore, has officially unveiled a prototype of its upcoming hypercar named Azani.
    The hypercar is based on the M-Zero Concept previewed by the company back in 2015 and has been pegged as India’s first indigenously developed electric supercar. MMM now wants to go a step further by turning Azani into a full working prototype. The EV startup has revealed the car in its full form along with some of its critical specifications.
    Exterior Design
    From the outset, Azani looks like a supercar straight out of a sci-fi movie with an aerodynamic profile. The supercar is essentially a mid-engine two-door Coupe that appears to resemble the shape of a stream flowing. Some other styling highlights include its LED headlamps with LED DRLs, flared wheel arches and a bulge on the roof.
    Features on offer
    Once carefully looked at, the front face of the car resonates with the company’s logo slapped onto the bonnet. Details of its interiors haven’t been revealed yet but surely the company would try to create the ambiance of an actual race car. Azani would be offered with a range of high-tech gizmos but highlights of the cabin will be the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) built-in its micro-factories to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

    These will also feature over the air (OTA) updates. Other features to make it to the equipment list include Advanced Morphing Seats, Advanced Telematics, Augmented Reality Displays, M-log Integration and Torque Vectoring to name a few.
    Azani is built on a skateboard aluminum space frame chassis which is highly flexible and could be used across various models. MMM claims that this modular platform will be built at one of its micro-factories which will be set up at less than one-fifth the cost of a traditional automobile manufacturing facility. The modular components to be utilised are said to decrease supplier margins by 25 percent.
    Hypercar Performance
    Tapping on to its performance, Azani is said to be powered by an electric motor that could generate a mammoth 1000 horses and 1000 Nm of peak torque. The motor will derive its energy from a 120kWh battery pack which could return a maximum range of around 530km in a single charge. Its top speed will be capped at 354MMMkmph while it can sprint 0-60 mph (97 kph) in just 2.1 seconds.

    Mahindra, like all major automakers, has been planning to venture into electric mobility with passenger vehicles for quite some time now. Unfortunately, there have been numerous delays for some obvious reasons. Test mules of what appears to be the production-spec eKUV100 have been recently spotted.
    The electric car made its first appearance as a pre-production concept at last year’s AutoExpo. Since then, there have been no developments regarding eKUV100 until now, when the e-SUV has made its debut on the official website of Mahindra Electric. Hat tip to automotive enthusiast Devi V Prasad Reddy, for sharing the update.
    Exterior Styling
    It has been pitched as an entry-level EV for the masses in the Indian auto market. For most parts of it, the exterior styling of KUV100 Electric is in line with its IC engine-powered sibling except for the closed-off front grille due to absence of a radiator.
    The grille also offers improved aerodynamics and features small arrow-shaped inserts, six of which are finished in blue. The electric crossover gets two charging ports, one on each front fender. In addition, there are blue highlights on headlamps and taillamps.

    The front bumper houses a very wide air inlet which also gets a tow hook in case the car gets stuck somewhere. The number plate housing at the tailgate features a thick chrome plate at the top with interesting ‘+’ and ‘-’ signs on it. All other design elements are similar to the fossil-fueled KUV100. There are also some subtle styling differences spotted in the test mule in comparison to the concept showcased at AutoExpo last year.
    For example, the model at AutoExpo stood on alloy wheels with a different design which featured blue inserts on each of its spokes. Further, the charging flap wore Mahindra Electric (ME) badging while the C-pillar flaunted a unique triangular badge. The e-KUV100 in the picture is seen wrapped under a dark shade of blue. It is also seen wearing black body claddings over wheel arches and door panels.
    Specifications
    At the time of its display in the biennial auto event, Mahindra had disclosed some of its specifications. The eKUV100 concept was fitted with a 15.9kWh battery pack which sent power to a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. The resultant power output stands at 54 bhp (40kW) and 120 Nm of torque.
    This powertrain could return a range of 147 km on a single charge. These are very modest figures from every standard. The battery could be charged from zero to 100 percent in 5hr 45min using a regular AC charger (on the front right fender flap).
    Using a DC fast charger, 0-80 percent of the battery could be replenished within 55 minutes (on the front left fender flap). Mahindra had priced the EV crossover at Rs 8.25 lakh back then. At the time of its launch, it could be offered at a price of Rs 9-11 lakh (ex-showroom). More

    Tata Nexon Electric Demand Is As Good As Nexon Diesel Demand

    With electric mobility given a serious push in the country, we are witnessing a rise in demand for electric vehicles. This has further been aided by soaring fuel prices in recent months. On a related note, Tata Motors has revealed that demand for Nexon EV has gained a lot of traction in recent months and is currently on par with its diesel-powered sibling.
    This development was confirmed by PB Balaji, Chief Financial Officer, Tata Motors, in an interaction with media during the company’s earnings call. He went on to reveal that the order book for Nexon EV in July 2021 is neck to neck with the diesel variant. Sales of Nexon EV and diesel variants of Nexon are comparable where both iterations of the subcompact SUV are available for sale.
    Surge in demand for EVs
    In fact, in some states like Maharashtra and Gujarat, sales of battery-powered Nexon have taken over its oil burner counterpart. According to Balaji, the combination of benefits from the revised FAME II policies and various subsidies by different state governments are some of the primary reasons for the favourable demand for EVs. The company’s share of electric vehicles has risen from 0.2 percent two years ago to 3 percent of total sales in June-July 2021.
    Tata Motors is hopeful that Nexon EV’s shares will soon account for 5 percent of total passenger vehicle sales of the company. Nexon EV witnessed its highest quarterly sales when Tata was able to sell 1,715 units of the subcompact electric crossover in the April-June quarter. A total of 53,800 cars were sold by Tata Motors during this period.

    Jubilant by seeing the rise in demand, the homegrown automaker has announced that it will launch as many as ten electric vehicles by 2025. The company has already announced its association with Tata Power in setting up an ecosystem of 400 charging points across the country.
    Lower Running Cost of EVs
    Another point in favour of electric vehicles is their low running costs. In many states, prices of petrol, and in some cases diesel as well, have surged past Rs 100 per litre in recent times. Hence the industry has witnessed a strong shift towards EVs. For instance, as per industry estimates, the running cost of petrol and diesel cars is about Rs 4-7 per kilometre in Delhi as compared to Rs 1.6-1.7 for CNG cars and Rs 1.47 for electric cars.
    Tata Motors is presently in the process of ramping up production capacity for Nexon EV but is constrained by the chip shortage. While share of diesel-powered models across the passenger vehicle segment has shrunk significantly over the past year, Tata Motors currently has no plans to phase out the diesel variant of the Nexon.
    In fact, Tata Motors has plans to launch a string of new EVs in India in the coming years. All their new generation cars are built on platforms which are EV compatible. Depending on demand, the company can launch new EVs. Next up planned in the EV space from Tata is most likely Altroz EV followed by HBX EV. More

    Features and Safety Equipment
    Tata Nexon EV is based on the same platform as the petrol / diesel Nexon that has been awarded 5 Star Global NCAP safety rating. It is presented in 3 colours of Signature Teal Blue, Moonlit Silver and Glacier White. New Dark Edition is also on offer. It receives features such as automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, a sunroof, roof mounted antenna and body coloured bumpers.
    The interiors are done up in a black and grey colour scheme and sports a 5 seater layout with rear seats folded in a 40:60 ratio. Infotainment is via a 7 inch touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with connected car technology.     Exterior Styling
    In the front is a blanked out single-frame octagonal-shaped front grille in gray colour with vertical slats. It receives a pair of LED headlamps with Audi’s Matrix LED technology which are flanked by integrated DRLs on both ends. The SUV rolls on 20-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels and gets a sloping roofline.
    The exterior wing mirrors are probably the highlight of the car’s exterior which displays the rear image on an OLED screen placed between the dashboard and door panel using a small camera. Its rear end flaunts a pair of LED taillights connected by an illuminated stripe across the boot lid.     Maruti Suzuki Electric Car Launch In FY 2025 – Price Range Rs 10 Lakh

    News of a Maruti Suzuki EV coming to India have been in the market for the last few years now. Speculation and spyshots had suggested that the first EV from Maruti would be the Electric WagonR, which was spotted testing in multiple locations across the country.
    However, later Maruti had clarified that there were no immediate plans to launch the Wagon R EV. With increasing push and support from the Indian Government, most OEMs in India have started taking their initial steps towards venturing into the Indian 4-wheeler EV market, which is still in its preliminary stage.
    New Maruti Electric Car – Suzuki’s First
    Tata, MG Motor, Hyundai and Mahindra already have/have had some kind of EV offering for the Indian market. Maruti, being the largest automaker in the country certainly doesn’t want to be left behind.
    New report now confirms that Suzuki will be releasing its first all-electric vehicle for the mass markets by FY 2025. The vehicle will be making its debut in India and will be later introduced in the European and Japanese markets. After taking into account the Government subsidies, the EV is expected to be priced around the $13,700 mark, which would roughly translate into INR 10 lakhs.

    Challenges Ahead
    Till date, Maruti’s dominances in the Indian market has been majorly due to its heavy market share in the small car segment. While models from its NEXA range do command a premium over their Arena counterparts, Maruti is still associated as a budget-friendly car manufacturer.
    Venturing into the EV market could be difficult as the entry-level price tag would fall around the INR 10 lakhs+ mark. Also, Maruti would have to ensure that it is able to crack the code on improving the overall range per charge, without compromising on the space and Value For Money quotient.
    Governmental Policies
    The Indian Government had set itself a target of ensuring that around 30% of the new cars which are purchased in 2030, are electric. To further push the customer preferences, the Government had rolled out multiple incentives on purchase of EVs, which summed up to INR 100 Billion. The initial plan for the support was for a 3 year period which started in 2019. However, due to a muted response and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Government decided to extend the incentive policy by additional 2 years.
