      With every other OEM venturing into electric mobility space, we often get to witness new designs and advent of some new technology even if it’s minuscule. The latest manufacturer is Husqvarna who plans to enter the emission-free auto world with the production version of E-Pilen Concept revealed recently.
      Based on the unique and pioneering design of successful twins- Svartpilen and Vitpilen, E-Pilen Concept is the Swedish bikemaker’s first step into urban electric mobility. The company has ensured that the production-spec electric motorcycle will bear stark resemblances to the concept version showcased.

      Modern Design
      The progressive design philosophy of Svartpilen and Vitpilen has been carried forward to the electric bike which features some distinct styling elements such as an exposed trellis frame, wide handlebars, a compact fuel tank and a round headlamp.
      While a light paint scheme has been carried forward from Vitpilen, the tank rack has been inspired by Svartpilen. Other design elements included are inverted forks, mono-shock at rear, and a gullwing swingarm.

      Expected Powertrain Specs
      It should be pointed out that the fuel tank houses the electric battery setup. The battery supplies energy to an electric motor with a rated capacity of 8kW (10.73 bhp). Although exact details of the powertrain are yet to be revealed, the company claims a modest range of 100km on a single charge. However, Husqvarna has assured that it will address the range anxiety issues of consumers by equipping E-Pilen with swappable batteries featuring a modular system.

      Official statement from the company read as “It has always been the aim of Husqvarna Motorcycles to develop new products accessible to the broadest possible spectrum of riders. The E-mobility range will retain and continue the riding pleasure and dynamics refined through the long history and experience of the brand.”
      More Details
      More details regarding E-Pilen will be revealed as the electric motorcycle nears its final production-spec version. Husqvarna’s Austrian cousin KTM has already ventured into electric mobility space with 5 kW SX-E and 16 kW Freeride E. If E-Pilen indeed undergoes production it can also pave the path for electric KTM Dukes. Motorcycles of both brands are manufactured at Bajaj’s manufacturing facility in Chakan near Pune, Maharashtra.

      In fact, Bajaj and KTM have been working together on a common electric platform that will underpin products ranging from 3kW to 10kW electric motors using a 48V electric system. Also, it was reported a couple of months back that KTM and Husqvarna are developing an all-new electric scooter as well which will be based on Bajaj Chetak Electric. Bookings have opened at Piaggio India’s authorized dealerships and via Aprilia’s official India website at a down payment of Rs.5,000. Launch date is scheduled for the coming weeks and production has also commenced at the company’s Baramati facility in Maharashtra.
      When you are trying to book the scooter on the official website, you will notice that the price is mentioned. For Pune, price is Rs 1.15 lakh while that for Delhi is Rs 1.16 lakh. If these are the ex-sh prices of Aprilia SXR 125, then it is about Rs 10k cheaper than the SXR 150.

      Aprilia SXR 125 maxi-scooter will borrow a host of features from its SXR 160 counterpart which has gone on to become the company’s flagship model. The two scooters will also share the same equipment, while colour schemes will also be similar and would include Matt Black, Glossy White, Glossy Red and Matt Blue.

      New Aprilia SXR 125 is seen with a similar front fascia as seen on the Aprilia RS series. It sports a distinctive headlamp cluster inspired by RS660, integrated LED DRLs, LED tail lamps and a tinted fly-screen to protect the rider from wind blasts.
      The Aprilia SXR 125 will also receive sporty ‘Y’ shaped alloy wheels, large exhaust outlets, a wide seat and flat footboard. A glove box, USB charger and sufficient under storage capacity will also be its highlights. It will also sport a fuel tank of 7 liter capacity which is also similar to that seen on the SXR 160. It will get a 210 cm sq. all digital instrument cluster with read outs from speedometer, odometer, ABS status, trip meter, fuel efficiency, etc. and Bluetooth mobile connectivity.
      Engine Specs
      The Aprilia SXR 125 will get powered via a 125cc, 3 valve, single cylinder, fuel injected, air cooled engine that also powers the SR 125 and other Vespa 125cc models. This engine makes 9.3 hp power at 7,600 rpm and 9.2 Nm torque at 6,250 rpm. Suspension is via telescopic front forks and twin shocks at the rear.       Royal Enfield has been busy developing new models for future as multiple test mules from the Chennai-based bikemaker’s assembly line have been spotted on various occasions in recent months. The new-gen Classic 350, Hunter 350 and a couple of new 650cc retro motorcycles are some of the new models expected to hit showrooms in the coming months.
      The new Classic 350 is most likely to be the next big launch from Royal Enfield, although which model it will be preceding is yet to be known. Test prototypes of both 650cc bikes, as well as Hunter 350, have been very frequently spotted on Indian roads. Recently, a test mule of Hunter 350 was spotted on the Tindivanam-Melmaruvathur highway.

      Hunter 350 will be built on the new J1D platform which currently underpins Meteor 350, however, unlike the cruiser, the roadster will be tad sportier in essence. It gets a straight and wide handlebar with centre-set footpegs which makes the riding posture upright against the more relaxed posture in Meteor.
      It also gets a shorter rear section in comparison to the cruiser. The latest spy pics also show a small backrest attached to the pillion seat, although it is most likely to be offered as an optional accessory.
      Other Styling, Feature Highlights
      Other styling highlights include a muscular front end, sweeping exhaust canister and wide tyres. One of the major additions will be a new Tripper Navigation Pod which offers turn-by-turn navigation on being connected to the Royal Enfield App on a smartphone with the help of Google Maps. The instrument cluster gets an analogue speedometer in addition to a digital display reading out information from the odometer and fuel gauge.

      Powertrain Specs
      Coming to specifications, Hunter 350 will be powered by a new 349cc single-cylinder air-cooled OHC engine which returns an output of 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of peak torque. This unit will be linked to a 5-speed gearbox and is considered to be more efficient and refined in comparison to the previous-gen 350cc powertrain.
      As far as suspension setup is concerned, it will feature 35 mm telescopic forks at front and twin gas-charged shocks at rear. Whereas braking duties will be handled disc brakes on both wheels assisted by dual-channel ABS.

      In March, a total of 75,999 units were sold in domestic market. YoY growth is 47.70%, as compared to 51,454 units sold in March last year. However, MoM growth is negative at -6.70%, as compared to 81,454 units sold in February 2021.
      Pulsar 125 is the top selling product in the range in March with sales of 41,956 units. YoY sales growth is up by 178.61%, as compared to 15,059 units sold in March last year. Percentage share in sales is at 55.21%. Pulsar 125 MoM growth is also positive at 6.70%, as compared to 39,323 units sold in February 2021.
      At number two is Pulsar 150 with 19,556 units sold in March 2021. YoY growth is down by -19.54%, as compared to 24,305 units sold in March last year. Percentage share in sales is at 25.73%. Pulsar 150 MoM sales growth is also negative at -23.46%. Sales in February 2021 were higher at 25,550 units. Pulsar 150 will soon be getting two new colour options of Moon White and Matte Red. The graphics will also be updated.
      Bajaj Pulsar Sales – March 2021
      Combined sales of Pulsar 160, 180, and 200 is at 9,315 units in March 2021. YoY growth is 25.62%, as compared to 7,415 units sold in March last year. Share in sales is at 12.26%. MoM sales are down by -19.99%, as compared to 11,643 units sold in February 2021.
      Pulsar 220F is next with sales of 5,172 units in March 2021. YoY growth is at 10.63%, as compared to 4,675 units sold in March last year. Pulsar 220F share in sales is at 6.81%. MoM growth is positive at 4.74%, as compared to 4,938 units sold in February 2021.

      Pulsar exports were at 26,256 units in March, which is YoY growth of 67.05%. Exports during March last year stood at 15,717 units. Pulsar exports MoM growth is down by -14.93%, as compared to 30,863 units exported in February 2021.

      In international markets, the most in demand motorcycles in March include Pulsar 160, 180 and 200. A total of 7,760 units were exported, which is YoY growth of 46.55%.       Pulsar 125 is next with exports of 3,364 units. YoY growth is at 49.25%, as compared to 2,254 units exported in March last year. Pulsar 220F is fourth with exports of 1,544 units. YoY growth is at 72.32%. In terms of MoM, only Pulsar 150 and 220F have positive growth. More

      Updated Design
      The third-gen Hayabusa comes with a series of updates both in terms of looks as well as its functionality. It comes with new body panels, flyscreen, rear cowl and fairing-mounted wing mirrors. The font face looks more aggressive thanks to more concise fairing adopted this time.
      New Hayabusa receives an updated tail section with freshly designed LED taillight. Although the faired sports bike continues to sport bulbous proportions as before, it now comes with chrome-plated twin exhausts that are sleeker and longer.

      Dynamics & Features
      Coming to its dynamics, 2021 Hayabusa retains the same twin-spar type aluminum frame which is assisted by the latest Kayaba suspension setup. Stopping duties are handled by disc brakes with Brembo’s Stylema calipers. The supersport tourer offers a saddle height of 800mm and a ground clearance of 120mm.
      Along with the hardware setup, new Hayabusa comes equipped with a wide array of electronic aids to complement the riding experience. The equipment comprises features such as a 6-axis IMU, hill start assist, multiple riding modes, quick-shifter, traction control, ABS cornering package, wheelie control, launch control to name a few. Other features on offer include a part digital and part analogue instrument console with a TFT display.
      Performance
      Speaking of performance, it is powered by a revised 1340cc inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as before that returns an output of 187 bhp and 150 Nm of peak torque.       Jawa Perak holds a unique distinction in India for being the only proper bobber-style cruiser motorcycle to be locally built in India. Although not a mass-seller, it caters to a niche segment of buyers who love traditional bobbers yet are not willing to shell out big bucks for a Harley Davidson, Indian Motorcycle or Triumph.
      A local aftermarket workshop based out of Surat in Gujarat named Agozee Kustoms has given a Jawa Perak a new custom paint job. The stock Perak is only available in a solitary black paint scheme. The customization has been conducted for a Surat-based dealership at a price of Rs 9,999.
      Custom Matte Green Paint Job
      The motorcycle now wears a pine green paint as its primary colour with a thick stripe of white running on top of the fuel tank, around the central toolkit panel and across the front and rear fenders. It also gets a small ‘Perak’ branding on the fuel tank.
      The white shade adds a nice contrast to the green paint and overall provides a fresh appeal to the bobber’s retro-style design. There are no other changes made to the classic bobber in any way.

      Like the regular Perak, the custom motorcycle adopts a blacked-out theme for all its mechanical components. The design is further accentuated by gold pin-striping on the fuel tank, side panels and fenders.
      The most notable highlight though is the single-piece floating seat wrapped in tan brown leather giving Perak a classic bobber stance. Back bezels around headlamps, blacked-out handlebar and bar-end mirrors further provide a sporty contrast to the bike.
      Mechanical Specifications
      Coming to its specifications, Perak is powered by a slightly larger 334cc single-cylinder engine in comparison to the 294cc unit in Jawa Standard and Forty-Two. This motor is capable of churning out 30 bhp and a peak torque of 32.74 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

      Suspension setup comprises conventional telescopic forks upfront and a mono-shock at rear, mounted beneath the seat. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends which are assisted by a dual-channel ABS.
      Perak also offers a slightly longer wheelbase in comparison to its other two siblings due to a larger rake to the front suspension unit. For its class of motorcycles, Perak is extremely nimble at 175 kilos of kerb weight. A similar custom paint job was performed by the same aftermarket workshop on Jawa Forty-Two a couple of months ago.       Yamaha Sales, Exports Breakup March 2021 – FZ, RayZR, Fascino, R15, MT15

      A total of 46,241 units were sold in March 2021, which is YoY growth of 7.20%. Sales during the corresponding period last year stood at 43,136 units. Export numbers are even better in percentage terms. A total of 33,678 units were exported in March 2021, which is YoY growth of 72.59%. Exports in March last year stood at 19,513 units.
      Yamaha domestic sales March 2021 – FZ leads
      Yamaha motorcycles have emerged as popular options in entry-level performance biking segment. Leading the pack in March is FZ with sales of 16,563 units. YoY growth is 65.56%, as compared to 10,004 units sold in March last year. FZ share in sales is 35.82%.
      Yamaha will soon be expanding the FZ range with a new motorcycle named FZ-X. It will be positioned as an entry-level retro styled motorcycle, cheaper than the existing breed of 300-400cc retro motorcycles.
      At number two is RayZR with sales of 8,272 units in March 2021. YoY sales are down by -30.91%, as compared to 11,972 units sold in March last year. Percentage share in sales is at 17.89%. Last month, Yamaha had increased prices of RayZR by Rs 3,000. It is now available at a starting price of Rs 73,330.

      Fascino is next in the list with sales of 7,724 units in March 2021. YoY sales have close to halved, as compared to 14,433 units sold in March last year. Percentage share in sales is 16.70%. Fascino prices were also hiked in March by Rs 2.5k. It is available at a starting price of Rs 72,030.
      R15 takes fourth spot with sales of 6,988 units in March 2021. YoY growth is 59.11%, as compared to 4,392 units sold in March last year. Percentage share in sales is 15.11%. R15 recently received a new colour option of Metallic Red. The other colour options are Racing Blue, Thunder Grey and Darknight.
      At number five is MT15 with sales of 6,472 units in March 2021. YoY growth has more than tripled, as compared to 2,040 units sold in March last year. Percentage share in sales is 14.00%. MT-15 will soon be getting dual-channel ABS option, which has been a long pending demand of consumers.
      Yamaha Exports – March 2021
      At number six is FZ25 with sales of 222 units in March 2021. YoY growth is 534.29%, as compared to 35 units sold in March last year. Percentage share in sales is 0.48%. Products like Saluto, Alpha and R3 did not register any sales in March 2021.

      With the exception of Saluto and Fascino, all other Yamaha two-wheelers have positive growth in exports in March 2021. The top five are FZ (13,066 units), Crux (5,798), RayZR (5,498), FZ25 (2,911), and Saluto RX (2,344).       Top 10 Motorcycles March 21 – Pulsar 4th, Apache 6th, Classic 350 8th

      Bajaj PulsarMarch 2021 proved to be an encouraging month for bike manufacturers who noted substantial YoY growth particularly where top 10 motorcycle sales were concerned
      Top 10 motorcycle sales grew by 66.62 percent in March 21. During the past month, sales of 10 motorcycles in this segment stood at 8,48,488 units, up from 5,09,240 units sold in March 20. Hero MotoCorp commanded the list with four of its motorcycles in the top 10 category – Splendor, HF Deluxe, Glamour and Passion.
      Splendor Maintains No 1
      Even as the Splendor was the best-selling motorcycle with 94.86 percent growth to 2,80,090 units, up from 1,43,736 units sold in March 20, it was the Glamour, at No.7 that saw the most growth which stood at 154.63 percent.
      Sales of the Glamour were at 32,371 units, up from 12,713 units sold in March 20. HF Deluxe was at No.2 with 25.69 percent growth to 1,44,505 units in March 21, a YoY increase as compared to 1,14,969 units sold in March 20.
      The fourth model in the Hero MotoCorp lineup in the top 10 list was the Passion at No. 9. Sales of this bike also increased 69.84 percent to 30,464 units in the past month, up from 17,937 units sold in March 20.
      Top 10 Motorcycles – March 2021
      Honda CB Shine and Unicorn
      Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd., had the CB Shine commuter bike at No.3 with sales at 1,17,943 units, up 36.14 percent as against 86,633 units sold in March 21. The CB Shine currently commands a 13.90 percent share. Unicorn, another long running and trusted offering in the company lineup, added 23,235 units to sales in the past month, up 60.62 percent over 14,466 units which were sold in March 20.
      Bajaj Auto had the Pulsar and Platina brands among the top 10 motorcycles sold in March 21 at No.4 and 5 respectively. While Bajaj Pulsar sales increased 67.14 percent to 85,999 units in the past month, up from 51,454 units sold in March 20, it was the Platina that noted the highest percentage increase. Platina sales surged 224.61 percent or 47,761 units, to 69,025 units in March 21, up from 21,264 units sold in March 20.
      TVS Motor and Royal Enfield
      TVS Motor Co and Royal Enfield had one offering each on the list of top 10 motorcycles sold in March 21. The TVS Apache was at No.6 with 52.37 percent growth to 33,162 units, up from 21,764 units sold in March 20. The company has recently increased prices of the Apache RTR 160 and RTR 180 prices by Rs. 1,295 but not introduced any feature or mechanical updates.
      RE Classic 350 at No.8 noted sales of 31,694 units, up 30.41 percent over 24,304 units sold in March 20. New Classic 350 will be launched in the coming months. The updated model will be underpinned by a new J platform, which debuted in the Meteor 350 while the existing 346 cc engine will be replaced by a new 349 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine with OHC setup.
