Ultraviolette F77 Electric Motorcycle Performance Testing – New Teaser

Ultraviolette F77 Electric Motorcycle – New TeaserUltraviolette has set up its manufacturing facility near Electronic City in Bangalore and plans to produce 15,000 EVs annually
Ultraviolette, like many other promising electric vehicle startups in recent times, has managed to grab attention from all corners even before it could launch its first product. Speaking of its first product, the company revealed its first product in the form of an electric motorcycle prototype named F77 back in October 2019.
Recently, it was revealed that the F77 electric bike is slated to undergo series production from the first quarter of CY2022 with its launch expected to take place by March next year. Ahead of its productions, the brand has released a new video on YouTube which reveals the advanced testing being carried on the upcoming motorcycle.
Ultraviolette F77 Performance – New testing protocols
Unlike conventional pre-launch test trials, the one conducted by Ultraviolette involved the use of many electronic sensors to obtain various kinds of data. The tests involved evaluation of handling, stability, acceleration and braking of F77. As explained in the video, there are two parts to vehicle testing- qualitative and quantitative.
Qualitative means obtaining data through evaluation by riding in different conditions and getting responses, feedback, efforts, etc. Quantitative means correlating the information obtained from the former with tangible data such as pitch, roll, yaw, stiffness and more. Different sensors have been used to capture and monitor various parameters of F77.
    [embedded content]
    Quantitative Tests
Starting with the quantitative evaluation, LVDTs (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) are mounted on front forks and rear shock absorbers to determine suspension travel and behaviour. Further, accelerometers are installed on multiple points of the motorcycle such as wheels, swingarm and handlebar to measure forces induced when traveling on road.
Strain gauges are used to determine minute deformations on critical components which are also attached on multiple points in the chassis. In addition to these, several temperature sensors are employed to capture a thermal map of the motorcycle under various scenarios.
    Qualitative Tests
Coming to qualitative assessments, these involve multiple tests like Slalom, braking, acceleration, wobble and weaving which are conducted by almost every automotive manufacturer to evaluate various parameters of a vehicle’s on-road performance. Other attributes evaluated are feedback from the rider, tyres locking up and how much the bike dives while braking and so on.
The upcoming F77 is claimed to be the fastest motorcycle in the electric two-wheeler space in India. Based on the initial prototype revealed earlier, the bike could attain a top speed of 140 kmph and a 0-60 kmph acceleration in just 2.9 seconds. The battery pack involved is expected to return a range of 150 km on a single range though there have been talks of Ultraviolette launching another variant of F77 with a greater range. More

Royal Enfield Himalayan 650cc Gets Green Light For Launch

Image for reference. Credit – Bike ExifThe upcoming 650cc Himalayan is being developed at Royal Enfield’s UK-based technical centre
A few months ago, rumours of Royal Enfield developing a more powerful version of Himalayan broke out on the internet. The Chennai-based bikemaker has given a green light to the project and that the new Himalayan will be powered by a 650cc parallel-twin engine.
Fresh details regarding this upcoming motorcycle have emerged which give us more insights. Himalayan 650 wasn’t initially part of Royal Enfield’s plan when it decided to build the 650cc parallel-twin motor. Development work on this motorcycle started around 18 months ago.
    Demerits of current Himalayan
The primary concern for the company is that Himalayan in its current form weighs around 199 kilos which is on the heavier side. Therefore, plonking it with a larger power plant will only make it heavier. Hence, Royal Enfield is likely to retune the chassis of the adventure bike in the new 650cc iteration.
Moreover, the excess weight of the current Himalayan is also one of its prime negative attributes in the otherwise popular motorcycle. The current 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor delivers a fairly modest output of 24.3 bhp and a peak torque of 32 Nm while the additional weight doesn’t help its case either. The motorcycle isn’t lively on roads and is unable to hold triple-digit speeds while cruising.
    2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan 410
    Himalayan 650cc Launch
The new Himalayan 650 will have many critical variations with respect to the current model. For instance, the new 650cc iteration of Himalayan would not be as capable on rough terrains as the current model. It will be available in two derivatives- one with alloy wheels and one with spoked rims. The former will be pitched as a sports tourer while the latter will be a road-biased adventure tourer.
This means it will not be a proper adventure bike by any stretch of imagination and the adventure tourer variant will be more of a tour-orientated soft-roader. Royal Enfield is also expected to downsize the front wheel from 21-inches to a 19-inch unit for more road-friendly usage. Further, the bikemaker may not even call this upcoming motorcycle as ‘Himalayan’ and allot it a brand new moniker.
Rider will be mounted on a higher saddle in the new Himalayan 650 and ground clearance will be impressive as well. The exhaust pipe will also be mounted higher. Around 80-85 percent design of the current model will be carried forward in the new motorcycle. Therefore, we can expect Royal Enfield to retain its overall rugged styling.
    Expected Features & Powertrain
The company might equip the new Himalayan with features such as a new instrument console with a TFT display. It might also offer Bluetooth connectivity along with multiple riding modes and also a one-level traction control system. Braking setup of the motorcycle will also be enhanced.
Powering this upcoming derivative of Himalayan will be a familiar 648cc, parallel-twin engine sourced from Interceptor and Continental GT. This motor pushes out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox. However, we still have to wait for at least three years since the new Himalayan 650 isn’t coming before the last quarter of 2024.

Bajaj Dominar 250 Sales Down To 4 Units Ahead Of New Pulsar Launch

Image – Throttle 98Dominar 250 could face cannibalization if Pulsar 250 is competitively priced and offers more value to customers
Launched last year in March, Dominar 250 is one of the most affordable 250cc bikes in the country. It is currently available at a starting price of Rs 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike will soon face competition from one of its own – Pulsar 250. The latter is scheduled for launch on October 28. Ahead of that, Dominar 250 sales have nosedived in September.
    Dominar 250 September sales
Bajaj offers a wide range of motorcycles in the 250cc range. Apart from Dominar 250, they have the Husqvarna twins Svartpilen and Vitpilen, then the KTM Duke 250 and ADV 250. This week will see the launch of Pulsar NS250 and Pulsar 250F.
With production constrained due to global shortage of parts, it is likely that Dominar 250 production numbers are low so that they could more units of the Pulsar 250 Twins. Bajaj has not said anything about discontinuing Dominar 250. In fact, they have been more bullish on the 250cc segment than anyone else in the industry.
From 440 units in August, Dominar 250 sales have dropped to just 4 units in September. Many potential buyers would have adopted a wait and watch policy. They are expected to take a decision once Pulsar 250 is launched. It remains to be seen which among the two emerges as favourite.
Bajaj Dominar Sales Last 12 Months
In the last 12 months, Dominar 250 sales have averaged 560 units per month. Its bigger sibling Dominar 400 appears to be doing relatively better with average monthly sales of 741 units. Dominar 250 sales are likely below expectation, even though the bike is competitively priced. Earlier this year in July, Bajaj had even reduced price of Dominar 250 from Rs 1.71 lakh to Rs 1.54 lakh.
A reduction of 17k was significant, especially at a time when most manufacturers have raised prices of their two-wheelers multiple times this year. However, price cut does not seem to have made any major difference in sales. August sales of 440 units are quite less as compared to a high of 1,750 units in October last year.
Apart from pricing, Bajaj has also worked to improve the bike’s look and feel. In August, three new colour options were introduced for Dominar 250. All three are dual-tone colour options, referred to as Citrus Rush and Matt Silver, Sparkling Black and Matt Silver, and Racing Red and Matt Silver. These have significantly enhanced the bike’s sporty profile.
    Dominar 250 vs. Pulsar 250
Being the largest Pulsar ever, the 250cc model is expected to be a well-equipped bike. In terms of styling, Pulsar 250 sports an entirely new look. Only a limited number of features have been borrowed from existing Pulsar motorcycles. Key updates include a new semi-digital instrument console. It is possible that the bike could get Bluetooth-based connectivity features.
The bike gets a new chassis. The frame comprises a twin tubular cradle frame and there is no downtube. The bike utilizes standard telescopic forks at front and a monoshock absorber at rear. Both wheels have disc brakes and dual-channel ABS is expected to be standard. The bike will be utilizing Grimeca callipers.
Powering Pulsar 250 will be an entirely new 249cc, single cylinder, air/oil-cooled motor. It is expected to generate 24 bhp of max power and 20 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike is expected to get advanced features like assist and sipper clutch and variable valve actuation (VVA). In comparison, Dominar 250 has a 248.77 cc, liquid cooled motor that generates 27 ps / 23.5 Nm. It has 37mm USD forks at front. More

    Rebel in India?
The new Rebel 250 goes on sale in Japan starting January 20, 2022 with prices starting at about Rs 4 lakh. This bike is unlikely to make its way to India shores. However, there have been rumours of Honda bringing the more premium Rebel 500 to India this year, unfortunately, its launch has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic.
Honda doesn’t offer a single cruiser motorcycle in India but instead has found success by launching a retro-style classic roadster in the form of CB350. This bike is currently available in two derivatives- H’Ness CB350 and CB350RS. Honda could launch the Rebel range in India under their BigWing network as a CBU. More

Jedi Vision K750 Motorcycle Concept Debuts With Futuristic Design

    Jedi Vision K750 Motorcycle Concept
Jinnan Jedi has managed to create something homegrown and fairly original which would cater to select international markets
For some Chinese automobile designers, there isn’t much of a difference between plagiarism and inspiration. This fact has been established with the numerous rip-offs we have covered over the past few years. These select few Chinese brands have managed to get a bad name for the entire Chinese design industry.
However, there are some brands that are trying to change this perception about Chinese automakers and seriously putting an effort into developing genuine and quality products for international markets. Jinan Jedi is one of the manufacturers willing to bring a change in the Chinese automotive industry.
Jedi Vision K750 Concept – Futuristic Styling
The company has revealed a new concept motorcycle named Vision K750 which is far from anything displayed on a global stage. Unveiled at the CIMA (China International Motorcycle Exhibition) show in China, the superbike concept has provided a platform for a series of new launches from a relatively unknown brand in other parts of the world.
The bikemaker has been known to develop motorcycles for Chinese police and security services but is steadily shifting towards the consumer market. Since it is just a concept, many elements on this bike look outrageous.
    Jedi Vision K750 Motorcycle Concept
At the same time, it presents a futuristic appeal in terms of design. Certain highlights which catch our attention include an LED headlight with 76 triangular shards in its internals and flaked by boomerang-shaped DRLs on both sides.
A similar design has been used in the LED taillamps with multiple triangular elements tucked into cowls in the seat unit. Further, the bulbous side fairings and a muscular fuel tank give it the appeal of a sharp-looking sports bike. While the overall design is unique, the front end has a hint of KTM RC 8 while the rear end seems to be inspired by Ducati Panigale.
    Mechanical Specs
K750 Concept is based on a familiar cast aluminum chassis that also underpins other production models from Jedi like the JFR750 naked roadster and GTR750 sports tourer. The architecture has been designed by Suter in Switzerland. This frame sits on upside-down forks at front and mono-shock at rear.
    Jedi Vision K750 Motorcycle Concept
Braking hardware comprises twin disc brakes at front and a single disc at rear chewed down by Brembo calipers. Powering the K750 is the same 730cc parallel-twin DOHC engine mated to a six-speed gearbox. This powertrain returns an output of 68 bhp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 67 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This puts the K750 against the likes of Kawasaki Ninja 650. More
