      New Honda Activa, Dio Variants Homologated Ahead Of Launch

      Honda Activa and Dio scooters have long been hot favourites in the company lineup. Scaling the company’s sales charts each month, these two scooters are set to receive new variants, if RTO leaked documents are anything to go by.
      As per a recent type approval document filed by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) with the RTO, Honda Activa and Dio will receive two and four new variants respectively. Honda Activa is currently presented in 6G and Activa 125 variants. The listed variants include Activa 6G and Activa 6G LED.
      Honda Activa New Variants
      As on date, the Honda Activa is offered with all LED lighting on the DLX variant. The STD variant gets LED DRLs, LED turn indicators along with LED tail lamps. Hence what the new variants will bring in is yet unclear. Honda Activa is currently priced from Rs. 69,080 to Rs. 72,325 (ex-sh).
      As per RTO documents filed, there are also four variants scheduled for the Dio scooter. Honda Dio is currently available in two variants. The STD variant is priced at Rs 64,510 while the Dio DLX variant is priced at Rs 67,908.
      Honda Activa, Dio scooter – New variants homologated
      The listed document indicate the Honda Dio, Dio with digital speedometer, Dio with 3D emblem and Dio with digital speedometer and 3D emblem each of which get composite cast wheels. The new variants could see some change is design and features once launched. Expect launch of these new variants to take place ahead of the Diwali 2021 festive season, when sales are at peak.
      Honda Dio scooter currently sports alloy wheels on the Repsol edition while other variants get pressed steel wheels. It also gets a digital instrument cluster on DLX and Repsol variants while STD variant gets an analogue setup.
      No Change in Engine Specs
      New variants of Honda Activa and Dio could continue to be powered by the same engine lineup. This 109.51cc, single cylinder engine makes 7.68 hp power at 8,000 rpm and 8.79 Nm peak torque at 5,250 rpm. On the Honda Dio, these figures stand at 7.76 hp and 9 Nm respectively. The engine is mated to a CVT.
      The engine has recently received some updates which include new friction reduction technology, enhanced Smart Power (eSP), along with Honda Eco Technology (HET) for enhanced fuel efficiency. Suspension stands at telescopic suspension in the front and 3 step adjustable suspension at the rear.
      Virtual Showrooms
      In view of social distancing and fear of the pandemic, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter in India launched Honda BigWing virtual showrooms earlier this month. Set to enhance digital customer interface and to offer contactless services, this digital showroom offers customers a 360 degree virtual product range along with online documentation and direct to home delivery.       Yamaha R15M Launch Date Is 21st Sep – Gets New Features

      Ahead of its launch, Yamaha R15M variant has started arriving at dealerships. The bike has been spotted in two colour options, Yamaha Blue and Silver. Yamaha R15M launch date is set for 21st Sep 2021.
      Earlier, R15M was also spotted in MotoGP livery with Monster Energy branding at front and side panels. In comparison, standard R15 is offered in colour options of Thunder Grey, Metallic Red, Dark Knight and Racing Blue.
      Yamaha R15M style updates
      It is apparent that R15M borrows its styling bits from Yamaha flagship R1M. Some specific features such as front fascia look similar to that of R7. One of the key visual changes on R15M is single projector LED headlamp.
      The current R15 model is equipped with dual headlights. This is no doubt a sportier unit, but the single LED setup of R15M variant gives the bike a more aggressive and dominating look and feel. Sharp LED DRLs at the sides further accentuate the bike’s badass profile.
      Yamaha R15M India Launch Date – 21st Sep 2021
      Some changes can also be seen on side fairing, tail section and LED tail lamp. Skeletal details on R15M variant are more distinct in comparison to that of standard R15. The exhaust looks familiar, but it gets metallic heat shield. In other updates, the air ducts on R15M appear to be larger. The bike also seems to have been equipped with a larger windscreen. On both colour variants, alloy wheels are wrapped in Blue paint.
      Yamaha R15M functional updates
      Among the things that immediately get our attention are the golden coloured front forks. These are USD forks, which can be expected to provide tangible benefits in terms of handling and braking. And of course they also add an extra dash of sportiness to the bike. Yamaha already offers USD forks with R15 in international markets. In India, R15 utilizes standard telescopic forks.
      At the rear, R15 has monocross suspension system. This is likely to be the same for R15M variant. Braking apparatus is expected to be the same as well; 282 mm disc at the front and 220 mm disc at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard with R15.
      As revealed in Type Approval Document, Yamaha R15M utilizes a 155cc motor. This is likely to be the same as R15. However, the power output for R15M variant is stated as 13.5 kW (~ 18.35 ps). This is slightly less as compared to 13.7 kW (18.6 ps) of R15.
      It remains to be seen if torque output will also be different for R15M variant. On R15, max torque output is 14.1 Nm at 8,500 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed, constant mesh transmission. With the updates, Yamaha R15M variant could cost around 5k to 10k more than standard YZF R15 V3.0. The latter is currently offered at a starting price of Rs 1.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). More

      2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan New Variant Spied Testing Again

      Royal Enfield has plenty on its plate at the moment as far as new upcoming modes are concerned. The bikemaker has been testing various models on roads in recent times, one of them being the a new motorcycle which is based on Himalayan. While the latter is a proper adventure bike, the former will be a road-biased version of the same.
      The motorcycle has been spotted testing on multiple occasions on roads in the recent past. Although it will be underpinned by the same architecture as Himalayan, the upcoming 2022 Himalayan new variant will wear a slightly different top hat in order to distinguish it from the off-road capable iteration.
      Updated Design
      For starters, the road-based iteration of Himalayan misses out on a large windscreen upfront. That said, customers will get the option to add a windscreen as an additional accessory. Also, Himalayan’s signature exoskeleton has made way for newly designed tank shrouds. Unlike previous test mules, the latest spy shots showed an undisguised testing prototype.
      While Himalayan gets a larger 21-inch front wheel, this new variant will feature a smaller 19-inch front wheel with similar wire-spoked rims shod by block pattern, dual-purpose tyres. Similarly, the tail section also seems to be redesigned with respect to the positioning of taillamp and rear turn indicators appearing slightly different from the current Himalayan.
      2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan
      In the latest test mule, a small luggage rack has been installed at the rear. Other styling updates include a revised headlamp mask, redesigned and repositioned front turn indicators and revised front and rear mudguards.
      2022 Himalayan new variant also misses out on a traditional beak-like fender as seen in existing Himalayan. It, however, retains the same upswept exhaust canister and split-style seating setup from the adventure motorcycle.
      Features & Powertrain
      As far as features are concerned, like other Royal Enfield motorcycles, this one also won’t be too high on gizmos. Instrumentation of the bike looks basic with a twin-pod cluster with one pod catering to the speedometer while the other one catering to the Tripper Navigation display. The Tripper pod provides turn-by-turn navigation when paired to the Royal Enfield App on the rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth.
      Powering the tourer will be the same 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled SOHC engine that propels Himalayan. This unit kicks out 24.3 bhp and 32 Nm of peak torque which will be paired with a five-speed gearbox. Motorists would be delighted if Royal Enfield could update this engine to provide a little more oomph desired in long-distance touring. Suspension setup could be tweaked in order to focus more towards on-road dynamics.

      Top 10 Two Wheeler Exports Jul 2021 – Pulsar, Apache, Splendor, FZ

      Bajaj PulsarIt is one of those rare occurrences when all top 20 twenty two-wheelers have positive YoY growth
      In a heartening development for two-wheeler manufacturers, YoY export numbers have more than doubled in July 2021. A total of 3,77,261 units were exported in the month, as compared to 1,80,800 units in the corresponding period last year. YoY growth is at 108.66%.
      In the top ten, Bajaj has four motorcycles, TVS and Hero have two each whereas Yamaha and Honda have one motorcycle each. Just four of Bajaj’s motorcycles command a collective share in exports of more than 40%. This is evidence to the company’s dominance in two-wheeler exports.
      Boxer leads
      Bajaj boxer continues to dominate in export markets. A total of 93,548 units were exported in the month of July. YoY growth is 89.30%, as compared to 49,418 units in July last year. Share in exports is at 24.80%. Boxer was earlier available in Indian market with a 150cc engine. However, it was discontinued, as the company shifted focus to entry-level commuters and sports motorcycles.
      A consistent performer, TVS Star City is at number two in the list with exports of 68,255 units in July. YoY growth is at 73.82%, as compared to 39,267 units exported in July last year. Share in exports is 18.09%. In domestic market, TVS recently launched a new variant of Star City Plus. Equipped with roto petal disc brakes, the bike was launched at Rs 68,465 (ex-showroom). According to TVS, Star City has 3 million users in India.
      Two Wheeler Exports Jul 2021
      Pulsar is at number three in the list with exports of 35,371 units in July. It has registered a strong comeback with YoY growth close to triple in comparison to 12,022 units exported in July last year. Share in exports is at 9.38%.
      In domestic market, Bajaj will be launching 250cc Pulsar, the biggest Pulsar ever. Three variants are likely to be on offer, naked (NS250), semi-faired (250F) and fully-faired (RS250). 250cc Pulsar is expected to debut sometime around Diwali.
      CT registers strong growth
      At number four in the list is Bajaj CT with exports of 16,386 units in July. YoY growth is 777.66%, as compared to 1,867 units exported in July last year. This is the highest YoY growth in top ten in percentage terms. CT share in exports is at 4.34%. In domestic market, Bajaj recently launched 2021 CT110X at a starting price of Rs 55,494. A number of changes have been introduced including cosmetic as well as functional updates. New colour options are also on offer.

      New TVS 125cc Motorcycle Teased (Pulsar Rival) – Is It Fiero, Retron, Raider?

      TVS is getting ready to add a 125cc motorcycle to the line-up in India. Currently, TVS does not have any 125cc motorcycle on offer in domestic market. But they do manufacture 125cc motorcycle for export markets – Start City 125 and Victor. In India, the only 125cc option they have is in the form of Ntorq scooter.
      TVS took to social media recently to confirm that the bikemaker will be launching two new 125cc two-wheelers in India. One will be a motorcycle and one will be a scooter. The development was confirmed by the Joint MD of TVS Motor Company- Sudarshan Venu.
      TVS Fiero 125
      Is this the new TVS Fiero 125cc?
      TVS had filed trademarks for the names Fiero, Raider and Retron in the past and there is also a chance that the upcoming 125cc motorcycle might come bearing one of these names. TVS has confirmed that they will launch the motorcycle this month. As per the official teasers, the debut date is 16th Sep 2021.
      The new TVS Fiero 125cc will serve to bridge the gap between the entry-level 110cc bikes and the sportier Apache range of motorcycles starting with 160cc. From the teasers, it looks like that this new 125cc motorcycle will also be coming with racing characteristics like the Apache range. Take look at the teaser video below.

      New TVS 125cc motorcycle will get LED headlights, LED tail-lights, LED DRLs, LED turn indicators, all digital instrument cluster, disc brake, ABS, split seats, black alloys, tubeless tyres, etc. Unlike the Apache range, which is powered by Apache’s RT Fi or Race Tuned Fi, the new TVS Retron 125 will be powered by ET Fi or Eco Thrust Fi. TVS ET Fi is already on offer with their commuter range like Jupiter, Radeon, etc.
      TVS Fiero 125
      The upcoming TVS Raider 125 is likely to be slotted in between Radeon and the Apache 160 in the company range. Speculations are rife that this motorcycle will be powered by an existing 125cc motor which currently propels Star City 125 and Victor 125 for export markets. Expect this engine to churn an output around 10 bhp and 11 Nm of torque. The motor is likely to be coupled with a 5-speed gearbox, 1-down and 4-up.
      Jupiter 125
      The second 125cc offering to be launched by the bikemaker is expected to be a more powerful derivative of Jupiter which is likely to borrow the same engine as NTorq. However, the latter is expected to be tuned for slightly lower output in order to generate better fuel efficiency. The 125cc scooter segment in India has gained plenty of traction in recent years with several models from Hero MotoCorp, Honda and Yamaha.
      The Hosur-based manufacturer would want to increase its strength in the 125cc two-wheeler segment amidst growing competition. TVS has also registered another trademark for Apache RTR 165 RP which is expected to be the next addition to the Apache range of motorcycles. More

      Updated KTM RC 125 India Launch Likely This Month – Rivals Yamaha R15

      Upon its launch, the new KTM RC 125 will lock its horns against Yamaha YZF R15 V3 and is expected to be priced around Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom)
      A few days ago, KTM officially unveiled its updated range of RC models for the global market including RC 125, RC 200 and RC 390. The new generation RC models have received a plethora of upgrades over the current-gen models in terms of styling as well as dynamics.
      The Austrian brand is likely to kickstart the new-gen models with launch of the entry-level model of the RC range. Like its more powerful siblings, RC 125 gets significant styling updates in comparison to its predecessor. The fully-faired sports bike takes design inspiration from RC8 that has now been discontinued in the global market.
      Updated Design
      Speaking of its design, the new-gen RC 125 adopts a curvier styling which appears more aerodynamic in nature thanks to the multiple cuts and creases along the new body panels. Upfront, the fascia has been completely revised which now features a new single-pod LED headlamp unit, a stark departure from the twin-beam headlights in the outgoing model. The headlight is flanked by trendy boomerang-shaped LED DRLs on both sides which double up as turn indicators.
      Major updates have been made to the side fairings which are larger and lighter and provide aerodynamic support with large air dams. The new RC 125 rolls on new 5-spoke alloy wheels which are lighter than the ones on the current model. The fuel tank looks even more muscular with a larger 13.7-litre capacity. Other notable styling highlights include a clip-on handlebar, a raised tail section, a split seating setup, and a swept-up exhaust.
      New KTM RC125
      New Colour Schemes, Features
      The entry-level supersport motorcycle will receive new colour schemes in offing which include two dual-tone options including white with orange and black with orange colour options. Orange-coloured alloy rims further lend the bike its signature KTM visual appeal. Riding posture remains committed with slightly rear-centred footpegs and a short handlebar.
      Updates have also been made to the equipment which now gets a new LCD instrument cluster. The latest console should also provide connectivity in the form of Bluetooth. Further, it also gets a full LED lighting setup.
      Upgraded Performance
      Major updates have been made underneath the skin of the bike including a new trellis frame with a bolt-on rear subframe which is 1.5 kg lighter. The new frame ensures better control and handling at high speeds. Suspension duties are handled by USD forks at front and a mono-shock unit at rear embraced by an alloy swingarm. These are factory tuned to deliver better track performance.
      Small updates made to the powertrain also claimed to have improved the performance vastly. The new-gen RC 125 will feature the same 124.7cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which pumps out 14.5 bhp and 12 Nm of peak torque in the current model. In the upcoming iteration, these figures are expected to be slightly higher thanks to a new cooling system with a larger airbox – resulting in ultra-slick throttle response. More

      Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube Electric Scooter Sales Post Record Growth

      Electric scooter sales in India have been noting a marked increase over the past year, following ever increasing fuel prices. New entrants have entered the fray that include recently launched Ola and the Simple One, competing with more established rivals from Hero Electric, Okinawa, Ampere, Ather, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, etc.
      In 2021, sales of Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube have noted significant increase over sales in the same period of the previous year. Bajaj Chetak sales stood at 1,991 units in 2022, up from 332 units sold in 2021. TVS iQube sales increased to 2,255 units up from 71 units in the corresponding period. Total sales of these two, increased from about 400 in 2020 to over 4k in 2021 (Jan-July period).
      Chetak, iQube Sales Increase
      Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube, these two electric scooters have seen widescale acceptance by buyers in India over the past few months. Sales in June-July period have been the highest. Both scooters have posted a total of over 1,000 sales in both these months.
      Sales of both e-scooters could have been higher, but they currently on sale only in a few cities only. Bajaj Chetak sales only recently expanded to Nagpur, Aurangabad, Mysore and Mangalore while more cities will be added in the coming months. By end of 2021, Bajaj expects that the Chetak will go on sale across 22 new cities and by March 2022, Chetak will be available in 40 cities.
      Chetak and iQube electric scooter sales – 2021 vs 2020
      TVS iQube, on the other hand, is currently available in Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Coimbatore. It is expected to go on sale in more cities of Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata soon. iQube will also be available in a number of Tier I cities.
      Electric Scooter Demand
      Not only Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube, all electric vehicles are registering increase in sales / demand. Be it cars or two wheelers, EVs are much in demand. Boost in demand is due to multiple reasons. Top two reasons which has boosted EV demand in recent months – is the increase in petrol price and increase in subsidy thanks to FAME scheme and state govt incentives.
      OEMs are currently working towards increasing their manufacturing capacity, to meet the growing demand of EVs. Bajaj will setup new plant in Chakan near Pune for EVs. TVS has Rs 1,000 crore investment plan for EVs. Hero Electric is increasing production capacity to 10 lakh units. Ampere, Okinawa also has plans to increase production of EVs. Basically everywhere you look, all are trying to be a part of the EV boom.
      Currently, many buyers are staying away from EV due to reasons like higher price, little to no availability of charging network, etc. But these concerns will not remain for long. With increase in production, rise in sales, battery prices are expected to decline in coming years. With more people buying EVs, network of EV chargers is also expected to grow at a similar rate. This will boost EV sales across segments. EVs are likely to replace ICEs at a faster rate than expected. More

      BMW Motorrad will soon be updating its entry-level G310 siblings with new colour options. The German automaker had teased the new colour options on G310R and its adventure tourer sibling – G310GS. Both updated motorcycles have now started to arrive at dealer showrooms. Bookings for the latest iteration of the bikes have already commenced a few weeks ago. Both motorcycles remain mechanically identical to their respective outgoing models.
      2022 G310R Colour Options
      For starters, the entry-level naked roadster from the Bavarian brand will be offered in two new colour options namely Style Passion and Cosmic Black Two. While the latter is an all-black paint scheme, the former option gets white as a base paint with contrasting blue and red highlights for the body. The Style Passion colour option also features red accents on the exposed trellis frame and alloy wheels.
      The German marque has discontinued the Polar White paint scheme from the international markets and is most likely to be dropped from the Indian market as well. This has been replaced by a new Kyanite Blue Metallic Style Passion colour option. BMW has also retained the Limestone Metallic Style Sport shade from the current iteration.

      2022 G310GS Colour Options
      Coming to G310GS, the adventure bike will now be available in a Style Triple Black paint scheme which looks very attractive. The new colour scheme features blacked-out bodywork such as the front apron, beak, bash plate, visor, a portion of the semi-fairing and radiator shrouds. BMW has given this option a dual-tone theme with a silver-coloured side fairing, fuel tank panel and rear fender.
      The alloy wheels have been blacked out as well. This accentuates the sporty appeal of the adventure tourer. Further, golden-coloured front forks add a nice contrast to the bike’s overall appeal.
      Prior to this bike was available in three colour options namely- Rallye Style, Polar White and Kyanite Blue Metallic Style which have been retained. There was an additional special “40 Years GS” edition model which has been dropped from the GS lineup.

      Mechanical Specs
      Underneath the top hat, 2022 G310 motorcycles are exactly similar to each other. Both are powered by a 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that pushes out 33.5 bhp and 28 Nm of peak torque. This motor is linked with a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch. Suspension duties are carried out by USD forks up front and a mono-shock at rear. Anchorage is handled by 300mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes assisted by dual-channel ABS. More
