    Having sorted out critical supply chain issues in its production, Classic Legends is now looking to expand its portfolio with a variety of new models under different brands. These include the Yezdi Roadking scrambler and an adventure bike based on the same. The latter has been spotted testing once again, but this time fully undisguised.
    New Yezdi Roadking Adventure motorcycle was recently spied on the outskirts of Pune, where it was getting shot by camera crew for its official TVC. Launch is expected to take place sometime next year. As mentioned earlier, the motorcycle is based on the forthcoming Roadking scrambler and hence shares many commonalities with its sibling. That said, both bikes get distinct individual styling.
    Yezdi Roadking Adventure Motorcycle – ADV styling
    The motorcycle gets a typical adventure tourer design with a neo-retro styling. Some highlights include a round headlamp, a tall windscreen, a signature ADV beak, a raised tail section and multi-purpose tyres. Unlike the scrambler, the adventure bike boasts of a single-sided upswept exhaust canister and different radiator shrouds in comparison to current Jawa models.
    The upcoming adventure tourer and Roadking are expected to be based on a new architecture accompanied by a higher load-bearing rear subframe which will give the motorcycle a taller stance and an upright seating posture. The wide split seats, centre-set footpegs and a tall handlebar should offer comfortable riding ergonomics.

    Yezdi Roadking Adventure Motorcycle was seen carrying pannier mounts and saddle stays at rear and vertical stays adjacent to the fuel tank enhancing its touring credentials. The vertical metallic stays also double up as protection bars for the fuel tank, engine and radiator. Further, the bike features a large metallic underbelly bash plate that looks beefier than its Jawa cousins.
    Hardware Specs & Features
    With all metal protection parts installed, we can expect the Yezdi ADV to surpass the 200kg mark kerb weight. The motorcycle rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoked wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres. Suspension duties will be handled by conventional telescopic forks at front and a mono-shock with preload adjustability at rear.
    Anchorage will be taken care of by disc brakes on both ends with calipers from ByBre. In terms of features, Yezdi ADV will be equipped with all-LED illumination including taillight, turn indicators and headlight and a fully digital instrument console nestled in a rally-style robust casing.

    Expected Powertrain Specs
    The upcoming adventure bike is expected to be powered by a 334cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor which currently propels Jawa Perak. This unit cranks out 30 bhp and 32.74 Nm of peak torque while being paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It is expected to hit markets by the first half of next year and could be priced aggressively around Rs 2.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

    Royal Enfield Cruiser 650cc Super Meteor Spied – Cruising At 130 Kmph

    Royal Enfield is planning to expand its 650cc portfolio which currently boasts Interceptor and Continental GT. The third model in this 650cc range would be the upcoming cruiser tentatively titled Super Meteor 650. Test mules of the motorcycle have been spotted on numerous occasions in recent months.
    The cruiser has been spotted testing yet again, this time near ECR in Chennai. The latest set of spy images are credited to automotive enthusiast Deepthi, who has stated that the bike was seen cruising at over 130 kmph. The spy shots present a clear image of the upcoming motorcycle sans any noticeable camouflage.
    The motorcycle was earlier reported to officially debut at the latest edition of EICMA 2021, however, that wasn’t the case. The bikemaker instead pulled off a surprise by revealing a concept prototype named SG650 which was a preview to the upcoming bobber based on the same 650cc platform. In its production form, the motorcycle could be named Shotgun.

    Coming back to Super Meteor, flaunts a typical cruiser stance with neo-retro styling elements. Some notable highlights include a round headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, split seats, dual exhaust in chrome finish and broad rear fenders.

    The rearview mirrors on this test mule appeared to be aftermarket units while the stock units were circular. Grab rails are integrated into back support for the pillion. Interestingly, this test mule didn’t seem to carry a front windscreen but the mounts are easily noticeable.
    Ergonomics of the upcoming cruiser are said to be relaxed with comfortable riding posture thanks to a low saddle, a wide pulled-back handlebar, and forward-set footpegs. The motorcycle could be seen riding on wire-spoked wheels as well as alloy wheels depending on the variants on offer.
    Expected Features & Specs
    On taking a closer look at its front end, we can notice a large circular dial in its instrument console accompanied by a small dial which is most likely to be the display for Tripper Navigation. Other features expected to be on offer include all-LED lighting and a USB charger.
    Royal Enfield Cruiser 650cc Spied
    Powering Super Meteor 650 will be a familiar 648cc parallel-twin, oil-cooled motor which already does duty on Interceptor and Continental GT. This unit pumps out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch. The difference between Super Meteor and the current 650 twins is that the former gets a pair of upside-down forks instead of conventional telescopic forks.
    The rear suspension comprises twin shock absorbers. Braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at both ends accompanied by a dual-channel ABS as standard. Upon launch, the 650cc cruiser could be priced around Rs 4.0 lakh (ex-showroom). More

    Two Wheeler Sales 2021 Apr To Oct – Hero, Honda, TVS, Bajaj, Suzuki

    The two-wheeler industry recorded a total of 80,59,237 units this year YTD (Apr-Oct 2021) showing off flat growth when compared to 80,38,888 unit sales in the same period of last year. Every two wheeler maker in India, except for Mahindra Two Wheeler, has reported growth during the period over sales in the same period last year.

    Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest manufacturer of two wheelers, retained its No.1 position in terms of YTD sales. Total sales which had stood at 31,03,787 units in the April-October 2020 period dipped to 28,34,293 units in this year period. This was a de-growth of 8.68 percent while market share fell 3.44 percent from 38.61 percent to 35.17 percent during the said period.
    Hero MotoCorp introduced new products during the month of October. In the ‘X’-range of premium portfolio, it was Xtreme 160R Stealth Edition and XPulse 200 4 Valve which were launched while the new Pleasure+ XTec entered the scooter range.
    At No. 2 was Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) with a 5.12 percent YoY growth. Sales increased to 20,91,567 units, up from 19,89,754 units sold in the April-October 2020 period. Increased sales led to a 1.20 percent rise in market share to 25.95 percent. Honda saw its Activa and Dio command sales while in October 2021 the company reached a milestone of crossing the 5 crore unit mark with the Activa scooter allowing it to reach this mark.

    At No. 3 was TVS Motors with YTD sales growth of 4.39 percent. Sales stood at 11,86,912 units in the April to October 2021 period, up from 11,37,011 units sold in the same period of 2020. Market share increased marginally from 14.14 percent to 14.73 percent. The company is speeding up its EV plans and is set to invest Rs 1,000 crore to build a new product portfolio.
    Bajaj Auto, at No.4, saw its sales remain flat in the YTD 2021 period. Sales which had stood at 10,04,806 units in the YTD 2020 period increased only 2.45 percent to 10,29,438 units in the same 7 month period of 2021.
    Suzuki, Yamaha, Royal Enfield
    Suzuki and Yamaha also reported sales growth along with increased market share along with Royal Enfield. In the top 7 list, where everyone sold more than 2.5 lakh two wheelers, it was Suzuki which has posted the highest growth of 45%. Their sales increased from 2.32 lakh to 3.51 lakh in the said period.
    Piaggio sales stood at 30,724 units, up from 25,269 units sold in the YTD 2020 period. Market share increased marginally from 0.31 percent to 0.38 percent. Kawasaki growth stood at 300.92 percent to 2,177 units in the April-October 2021 period, from just 543 units sold in the same period last year.
    Triumph too posted an increase in sales, while Harley Davidson sales data is not yet available. Mahindra Two Wheeler sales dipped 97.56 percent to just 3 units in the April-October 2021 period, down from 123 units sold in the same period in 2020. More

    Ather Electric Scooter Production To Increase From 1.2 L to 4 L

    Ather Energy is stepping it up to meet demand for 450X and 450 Plus scooters. A second manufacturing facility is being commissioned in Hosur. When operations begin, manufacturing will be increased to 4,00,000 units per annum, up from current capacity of 1,20,000 units. The first manufacturing facility was setup in Hosur earlier in 2021.
    October 2021 was a great month for Ather Energy. The manufacturer registered its best-ever monthly sales numbers at 12-fold YoY growth. Revenue run rate is reported at $100 million.
    Ather Electric Scooter Production – 90 percent localisation
    Ather Energy has reported 20 percent MoM sales growth since November 2020. This corresponds to overall industry-wide increase in demand for electric scooters in recent months. Ather reports an increase in walk-ins, web inquiries and test rides between April-October 2021. For the same period, Ather reports 4X growth in vehicle booking.
    Operations at the Hosur manufacturing facility has helped with 90 percent localisation for 450X and 450 Plus. This includes the battery pack that’s made in-house by Ather Energy. In the next five years, an investment of INR 650 crores is earmarked. Funds will enhance operational efficiency and production capacity to meet demand.

    Lithium-ion battery manufacturing in India
    The manufacturing facility is also tasked with lithium-ion battery manufacturing. This being a key focus are for the auto company. Ather Energy makes its own battery packs. 13 patents have been filed in regard to design and manufacturing of the li-ion batteries.
    Retail operations are being expanded to new markets. Plans are afoot to establish 150 Experience Centers in 100 cities by March 2023. Strategic investments are being made to improve charging infrastructure.

    Bajaj Chetak Based Husqvarna Electric Scooter Spied For First Time

    As a brand, Husqvarna has gotten off to a good start in the country. It currently offers Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 250 in the Indian market, which have registered consistent sales since their launch. Husqvarna has also made India an export-oriented manufacturing hub for its sub-400cc motorcycles.
    It’s only natural for the company to think about expanding its footprint in the country. That’s exactly where its electric two-wheelers come into the picture. Earlier this year, they had two EV concepts. These were E-Pilen electric motorcycle and Vektorr concept electric scooter.
    Just like its fossil-fuel motorcycles, Husqvarna electric two-wheelers will also be manufactured by Bajaj Auto. The latter holds a 48% stake in KTM AG, the parent company of Husqvarna Motorcycles. The first Husqvarna electric scooter has now been spied testing in Pune, along with Bajaj Chetak.     Husqvarna Vektorr concept electric scooter will share the same platform as that of Chetak electric scooter. However, Vektorr is entirely different from a design perspective. As compared to Chetak’s retro profile, Vektorr has a futuristic look and feel.

    While Chetak has a laid back, easy going character, Vektorr seems more formal and quite like a machine. Geometrically, Chetak’s design is all about smooth curves whereas Vektorr largely has straight-cut body panels.
    Some key features of Vektorr include round headlamp, dual-tone colour theme of black and white with yellow accents, glossy front panel, a long, flat seat, and sleek tail section. It is to note that this is the concept version of Vektorr. It is possible that there may be changes in the production variant, which is expected to debut next year.
    Husqvarna electric scooter powertrain
    Vektorr will get its power from a 4kW motor. This is likely to be the same as that of Chetak. Vektorr concept has a top speed of 45 kmph and range of 95 km. This is similar to Chetak that offers 85 km in Sport mode and 95 km in Eco mode. Chetak top speed is 70 kmph.
    Husqvarna Electric Scooter Concept – Vektorr
    Vektorr could also borrow quite a few hardware components from Chetak. For example, the trailing-arm suspension at the front and monoshock unit at the rear could be the same as that of Chetak. Upon launch, it could rival Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, etc.
    In the electric two-wheeler segment in India, customers currently have plenty of options to choose from. However, factors like high pricing, range anxiety and lack of adequate charging infrastructure continue to be bottlenecks for this segment. Notwithstanding, manufacturers continue to be bullish in this space. There are expectations that this sector will witness rapid growth in coming years once the teething troubles are sorted out.

    Yamaha R15 Based Adventure 155cc Motorcycle Gets Monster Energy Edition

    The 155cc platform from Yamaha is one heck of a versatile architecture that has found its way to numerous models across the Japanese bikemaker’s international lineup. Initially debuting with R15, the platform has gone through several updates over a period of time and made its presence in models such as MT-15, XSR 155, Aerox 155 and many more.
    To the uninitiated, this platform has even found its place in an adventure bike called WR155R retailed in Indonesia. This ADV is a proper dirt bike rivalling the ones from Kawasaki’s KX series. It has now received a top of the line Monster Energy Edition like other premium offerings from Yamaha.
    WR155R Monster Energy Edition- Updated Cosmetics
    In line with other models, the Monster Energy Edition of WR155R flaunts a signature black and blue colour combination with Monster Energy graphics on the fuel tank. Apart from the cosmetic updates, this variant does not receive any changes with respect to the standard model either in terms of specs or features.
    Elaborating on its design, WR155R gets a triangular headlight with a typical beak-like fender upfront. The single-piece saddle is coloured blue and gets a unique boomerang shape with a strap. Other prominent highlights include a lengthy handlebar, a sloping 8.1-litre fuel tank, arrowhead-shaped rearview mirrors and wire-spoked wheels.

    Speaking of features, WR155R gets a fully digital LCD instrument console that provides information such as average fuel consumption, trip data, odometer reading, a gear indicator, as well as a clock. It also features hazard lights.
    Yamaha R15 Based Adventure WR155R – Mechanical Specs
    Powering the ADV bike is a familiar 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, VVA engine that powers R15. However, unlike the entry-level sports bike, WR155R gets a slightly detuned version of the motor which produces 16.7bhp and 14.3 Nm of peak torque. This unit is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch.
    The frame of the bike sits on 41mm telescopic forks at front and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends, however, they aren’t aided by an ABS in order to provide better handling while off-roading. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels which are shod with dual-purpose tyres.
    In Indonesia, the Monster Energy of WR155R is available at a price of IDR 38,325,000 (around INR 2 lakh). WR155R is unlikely to go on sale in India anytime soon since there aren’t many buyers for such motorcycles which are strictly meant for off-road purposes. More

    Revolt Electric Motorcycle Price Hike By Rs 18k – Battery Warranty Reduced

    Revolt Motors has increased prices of its flagship offering RV400. The electric motorcycle garnered a fair bit of attention at the time of its debut since it was the country’s first AI-enabled two-wheeler. The bike also flaunted a unique design which attracted many buyers.

    The company has now increased prices of RV400 by a significant margin of Rs 18,000. Previously, the electric motorcycle was priced at Rs 1.07 lakh and after the latest revision, it will be available at a price of Rs 1.25 lakh.
    For Mumbai, the price now stands at Rs 1.26 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The latest price hike has already come into effect. In fact, this price increment will also be applicable to customers who have booked an RV400 before it was announced.
    This will probably come as a jolt to all who were awaiting delivery of this electric motorcycle. Revolt Motors is communicating to such customers that the hike is because of a sudden and significant increase in the raw material cost.

    Battery Warranty Decreased
    The EV manufacturer has conveyed that it will be unable to deliver bikes at the price prevailing at the time of booking. Not just prices but Revolt has also reduced warranty on offer in the battery pack of RV400. When launched in 2019 first, Revolt offered a class-leading battery warranty of eight years or 1,50,000 kilometres (whichever comes first).
    This was also one of the numerous reasons why consumers shifted from IC engine-powered two-wheelers to a battery-powered motorcycles. The battery in RV400 now gets a six years or 1,00,000 kilometres warranty (whichever comes first). This means a reduction of two years and 50,000 kilometres.
    Despite a reduction in battery warranty coverage, Revolt still offers the most comprehensive warranty package than any other two-wheeler brand in the EV space in India. Other two-wheeler EV manufacturers like Ather Energy and Ola Electric only offer a three-year warranty on their respective batteries. However, the company has not yet commented on the reason behind the reduction in battery warranty.
    Revolt expansion in India
    Earlier in October this year, Revolt announced that it will expand its footprint in the country by establishing itself in 70 cities in the coming months, covering 26 states and union territories in India. Currently, Revolt retails RV400 in just six places in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Chennai.
    Powering RV400 is a 72V 3.24kWh lithium-ion battery that sends power to a 3 kW electric motor which dishes out a peak output of 5 kW power and 54 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 85 kmph and offers a claimed range of 156 kms on a single charge.

    Top 10 Motorcycles 500cc+ Oct 2021 – RE 650, Ninja, Tiger, Hayabusa

    Total sales of 500cc+ bikes in October 2021 are at 1,613 units. YoY growth is down by -7.72%, as compared to 1,748 units sold in the corresponding period last year. While Royal Enfield 650 twins maintain their lead, other popular names in top ten include Kawasaki and Trident. While Kawasaki and Trident have three bikes each in top ten, Suzuki, Harley and Honda have one each. Only two bikes in top 10 have reported negative YoY growth in October 2021.
    Motorcycles 500cc+ Oct 2021 – 650 twins lead
    Topping the list is Royal Enfield 650 twins with sales of 1,236 units in October. YoY growth is down by -17.93%, as compared to 1,506 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 76.63%. 650 twins are able to produce much higher volumes than other similar bikes, as they are affordably priced in the range of Rs 2.70 lakh to Rs 3.20 lakh.
    With the success of 650 twins in both domestic and international markets, Royal Enfield will soon expand its 650 range to include a new motorcycle based on the SG650 concept. The company has also unveiled special 120th anniversary edition of 650 twins at EICMA.
    At number two is Kawasaki Z900 with sales of 58 units in October. YoY growth is 87.10%, as compared to 31 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 3.60%. Next in the list is Triumph Trident with sales of 49 units in October. Market share is at 3.04%.
    500cc+ Motorcycle Sales Oct 2021
    Trident was launched in India earlier this year in April at a starting price of Rs 6.95 lakh. The naked streetfighter gets a range of hi-tech features and is offered in four colour options. It is powered by a 660cc motor that makes 80 bhp / 64 Nm.
    Kawasaki Ninja 650 is fourth with sales of 31 units in October. YoY growth is 63.16%, as compared to 19 units sold in October last year. Market share is at 1.92%. Fifth is Hayabusa with sales of 24 units. Market share is at 1.49%. Launched in April 2021 in its BS6 format, Hayabusa has been sold out till date. The last batch opened for bookings in July was sold out within a record 1 hour. The second batch had 100 units on sale.
    Triumph Tiger 900 sales double
    Placed at sixth place, Triumph Tiger 900 sales are at 22 units in October. YoY growth is 120.00%, as compared to 10 units sold in October last year. This is the highest YoY growth in top 10 in percentage terms. Tiger 900 market share is at 1.36%.
