Ola Electric Scooters at FutureFactory – Ready for dispatch to ownersOla S1 and S1 Pro deliveries have commenced from December 15, 2021 onwards, but several customers are yet to receive one
Ola Electric has been facing quite a few teething troubles including delay in deliveries. Only 275 units were delivered till December 2021. Ola Electric had said that while most scooters have reached delivery centres, there could be some that are in transit. Some could also be undergoing RTO registration process.
Ola Electric Scooter Buyers Awaiting Delivery
To avoid any further delays in deliveries, Ola Electric has boosted production to almost 1,000 units per day. Ola’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has shared a new video that shows hundreds of Ola Electric scooters lined up at the company’s manufacturing facility.
For all customers who have paid 20k, the final payment window will open on January 21. For these customers, dispatches will continue throughout January and February.
    Next purchase window soon
Ola Electric will also be opening next advance payment window soon. However, an exact timeline has not been provided. Like earlier, this advance payment will be for Rs 20k. People who had reserved their scooter will be notified via email, SMS and Ola app. In case of new customers, they can reserve their Ola scooter online by paying Rs 499. — Bhavish Aggarwal (@bhash) January 14, 2022

Total number of people waiting to get deliveries of their S1 and S1 Pro scooter must be pretty high. As may be recalled, the company had claimed sales worth Rs 1,100 crore when bookings were opened last year in September. These bookings were received in a limited purchase window of only two days.
If the numbers are true, Ola Electric could be sitting on orders of more than 1 lakh units. However, not all of these pre-bookings can be expected to be converted into sales. It is possible that some customers may opt out. This is especially true in the present situation where deliveries have been delayed. Earlier, deliveries were planned to commence from October 2021. It was later shifted to December 2021.
    New products planned
Ola Electric is reportedly working to expand its portfolio to provide more options to customers. One of the new products will be a more affordable electric scooter that will be positioned as an entry-level model. As of now, S1 and S1 Pro are offered at starting price of Rs 99,999 and Rs 1,29,999, respectively. Effective on-road price will vary based on subsidies provided by respective state governments.
Ola entry-level scooter could be named Ola Series S. This name has already been registered. It could have a range of around 100 km and top speed of up to 80 kmph. Price could be in the range of Rs 70k to Rs 80k.
It will have better competencies against other entry-level electric scooters such as those manufactured by Hero Electric, Ampere, etc. In terms of price, Ola Electric new scooter can also emerge as a viable option for users looking to upgrade from popular scooters such as Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter. While Japan is home to many quirky and flashy scooters, the streets are also filled with simple and easy to go affordable scooters. Honda has launched updated versions of its two entry-level scooters in its home market- Giorno and Dunk. Both scooters offer a simplistic riding experience to consumers looking for a daily commuter.
New Honda 50cc Scooters receive the same internals but flaunt distinct top hats which represent different flavours. While Giorno offers a retro design, Dunk seems more inclined for a younger section of riders with modern styling elements. Both scooters offer a simple and neutral appearance but flaunt the impression of Honda’s high quality.
    Honda Giorno, Dunk – Styling
Starting with Giorno, the updated scooter sports proportions of a normal-sized scooter. The most prominent highlights include a round headlight and overall retro scooter design cues with its curvy bodywork.
At first glance, Giorno is reminiscent of retro scooters from Vespa. Chrome highlights around the headlamp, taillamp, turn indicators, rear fenders and tail section give the scooter an old-school charm.
New Honda 50cc Scooter – Giorno
On the other hand, Dunk looks more stylish and modern with edgy panels all around. It flaunts a V-shaped halogen headlight mounted on the front apron and flanked by bulb turn indicators. Unlike Giorno which rides on silver-coloured alloy wheels, Dunk rolls on black alloys which enhances its sporty appearance.
Both scooters are offered in multiple colour options. Giorno is offered in four paint schemes namely Virgin Beige, Pearl Deep Mud Grey, Matte Armored Green Metallic and Summer Pink. Its modern sibling, Dunk, gets the option of three shades with Matte Jeans Blue Metallic, Pearl Deep Mud Gray, and Matte Ballistic Black Metallic.
    Features on offer
The scooters are laced with several commuter-friendly amenities making them ideal for urban commutes. Both scooters are equipped with an analogue console (with a digital inset below) and a 12V USB charging port inside the glovebox which gets 500ml storage.
New Honda 50cc Scooter – Dunk
A large hook at the centre allows riders to pin their luggage on the flat footboard. Both these Honda 50cc Scooters are offered with a decent 23-litre under-seat storage, enough to store one’s knick-knacks.
Dunk and Giorno offer a 4.5-litre fuel tank capacity and returns a claimed mileage of 75-80 kmpl. This results in a range of around 340-350 km on a full tank. Both scooters are extremely nimble at 81 kilos. While Dunk gets a seat height of 730mm, saddle in Giorno is even more accessible at 720mm.
    Mechanical Specs
Powering both scooters is a mere 49cc single-cylinder unit that produces a modest 4.5 PS of power at 8,000rpm and 4.1 Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. These will be sold via Jawa Yezdi showrooms alongside Jawa motorcycles. Bookings and test rides are now open for all three Yezdi motorcycles.
    Yezdi motorcycles styling and features
All three Yezdi bikes have neo-retro profile. Some common features include round headlamp, tear-drop shaped fuel tank, spoke wheels and minimalistic design. There are quite a few unique elements as well. For example, Yezdi Roadster and Scrambler have round rear-view mirrors whereas Adventure gets trendier units.
Adventure also gets a much larger windscreen, as compared to other Yezdi bikes. Scrambler and Adventure get raised front fender, which highlights their superior off-roading capabilities. All three bikes have powerful LED headlamps and tail lamps. Adventure and Scrambler are equipped with handlebar-mounted USB & Type C charging points.
Another difference can be seen in instrument console with Scrambler and Roadster getting round pods. In comparison, Adventure has a rectangular instrument console. It comes in a shock-proof casing and can be tilt-adjusted to suit both sitting and standing ride positions. Take a look at the detailed walkaround review of Yezdi motorcycles in the video below by Ujjwal Saxena.

All three Yezdi bikes offer a comfortable riding stance. Adventure has split seat design in comparison to single seat units on Roadster and Scrambler. The one on Scrambler comes in quilted pattern, which enhances its overall look and feel.
Yezdi Adventure packs in some additional features such as Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. Dual-channel ABS is standard across all three Yezdi bikes.
All three Yezdi bikes have double cradle chassis, integrated with telescopic front forks. Roadster and Scrambler have gas-canister based dual shock absorber at rear whereas Adventure gets monoshock with coil spring and linkage mechanism. Oben Electric Motorcycle Spied Testing In Bangalore

    Oben Electric Motorcycle Spied Testing
Bengaluru-based EV startup Oben will launch a fully indigenous electric motorcycle in the first quarter of 2022
December 2021 witnessed the birth of another electric vehicle (EV) brand in India named Oben EV which currently possesses 16 patented innovations. The company has already revealed a working prototype in the form of an electric motorcycle. A prototype of this battery-powered motorcycle has now been spotted testing in Bengaluru.
Designed and conceptualized by a Bengaluru-based couple Madhumita and Dinkar Agarwal, this electric motorcycle is slated to make its debut in the first quarter of 2022. With EVs gradually gaining prominence in the country, especially in the two-wheeler segment, demand for sustainable mobility is being created in the market.
    Oben Electric Motorcycle Spied
The latest spy shots credited to auto enthusiast Sourabh suggest that the electric motorcycle is in its final stages of development. Almost all panels of the motorcycle have been wrapped under camouflage, however, its distinct design says it out loud. Ultra-compact dimensions of the electric motorcycle would make it very flickable and easy to handle. The motorcycle flaunts a neo-retro design with many classic styling elements.
The most prominent highlights are a round LED headlamp and a sculpted faux fuel tank. Unlike the concept prototype which received a split-style raked-up seat, the test mule appeared to boast a flat single-piece seat. The motorcycle rolled on black alloy wheels which enhanced its sporty appeal.
    Oben Electric Motorcycle Concept
Ergonomics seem fairly simple with an upright riding posture, a wide and tall handlebar and centre-set footpegs that should offer a comfortable riding experience. Even though the motorcycle showcased earlier last month was naked and flaunted minimal body panels, the same cannot be said about the latest test prototype. We expect a few other differences to occur when the production-spec model is unveiled.
    Powertrain, Feature Details
From the spy shots, it is evident that it gets a hub-mounted electric motor, however, the Bengaluru-based EV hasn’t revealed official specs of the powertrain. Oben has stated the production version of the electric motorcycle should offer a top speed of 100kmph and a range of 200km on a single charge. The battery-powered motorcycle will be able to sprint 0-40 kmph in 3 seconds.
Charging time claimed for the motorcycle will be 2 hours but it can be fast-charged in an hour using an external DC charger. Oben will be kitting the motorcycle with many modern features such as a fully digital LCD instrument console which houses multiple connectivity suites. Riders can also access multiple ride-related information on their smartphones.
Oben intends to make a motorcycle made out of fully indigenous parts which will help the motorcycle to be priced aggressively. While official launch is scheduled for this quarter, deliveries of the electric motorcycle are claimed to begin by April 2022. The EV startup is expected to commence bookings in the coming months. However, both motorcycles are significantly different in their design and characteristics.
