New TVS Launch On 6th July – Ntorq Electric, Zepplin Cruiser Or Apache ADV

TVS has a bunch of new scooters and motorcycles on its table and any of them could be the launch productNew TVS Zepplin R Cruiser – Production spec renderDoes July 6th ring any bell? It would, for some TVS fans as that is the date when the Hosur based two wheeler major launched the XP variant of Ntorq last year. TVS is once again getting ready to launch a new product on 6th July this year.Launch event teaser image has the letter T and hashtag New Way Of Life mentioned. What does T stand for? And what does the hashtag with ‘New Way Of Life’ mean? Let’s take a look at some possible rumours for this TVS launch event on 6th July.New Ntorq Variant or Ntorq Electric? If you ask us, we’d say that the T looks very close to the T-shaped design element found on the headlights of the company’s NTorq 125 XP and XT scooters. It is possible that it is yet another variant of NTorq 125 launching on the same date as its XP variant. But ‘New Way Of Life’, is it indicating an electric Ntorq? If TVS NTorq electric is the case, it could get the same electrical hardware from iQube, but this time on a sporty-looking scooter. But as seen with the surprise launch of Raider 125, TVS is very good at quietly developing two wheelers and bringing them to the launch stages without any leaks.TVS launch event on 6th July 2022TVS Creon Electric ScooterAlso showcased at 2018 Auto Expo, Creon was an electric scooter concept that had incredible wind blast protection with a sleek and futuristic tail section. It was a hybrid between a conventional scooter and a maxi-styled scooter. When launched, it could compete with electric scooters from Ola, Simple Energy, Chetak, Ather Energy and the rest. The T-shaped symbol TVS teased, can be the face of a scooter and maybe even an electric Creon.TVS Retron MotorcycleThis is another trademark that was registered by TVS Motors in India. Retron was supposed to be a retro styled motorcycle from TVS. There were test mules caught testing on the road too. But it never saw the light of day after that. Retron was likely to be based on Apache RTR’s platform.TVS Zepplin R CruiserWe have seen the name Zepplin R getting trademarked recently. The Zeppelin concept was first revealed back at the 2018 Auto Expo. It is a cruiser motorcycle with a sporty appeal with advanced and hi-tech features like a mild-hybrid powertrain. TVS might launch this based on the 312 cc platform found on Apache RR 310 or TVS might also give any other smaller capacity engine from its lineup too.New TVS Zepplin R Cruiser RenderStreet or Adventure-Tourer Version of Apache RR 310Apache RR 310 has one of the best single-cylinder sporty motorcycles on sale in India. It is co-developed with BMW and is shared by both companies. BMW has G 310 R street bike and G 310 GS adventure tourer based on that platform and is also launching G 310 RR fully faired sports version too. Whereas TVS only has one fully faired sports bike based on that platform. TVS is expected to launch a naked or an adventure-tourer bike version. An adventure-tourer is ‘New Way Of Life’, isn’t it? With Hunter 350, Royal Enfield will be looking to provide a nimble-footed option in comparison to its heavier 350cc siblingsNew Royal Enfield Hunter 350 RenderAiming to strengthen its position in the middleweight motorcycle segment, Royal Enfield is proactively working to launch several new bikes. Some of the most awaited bikes include Himalayan 450, Shotgun 650 and a 650cc cruiser. Enhanced agility will also be enabled with features such as flat handlebar, low seat height, rear-biased footpegs and short tail section.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 – Most Affordable REWhile Hunter 350 has a distinctive profile, it retains the signature retro features such as round headlamp, tear-drop shaped fuel tank and round rear-view mirrors. While the bike is designed to dominate city streets, it can work for highways as well. These bikes are powered by a new 349cc motor that generates 20.2 bhp of max power and 27 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Much of the hardware will be the same such as telescopic front forks and preload adjustable twin rear shock absorbers.Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Launch In AugIt is expected that Hunter 350 will have two variants, J1C1 and J1C2. The latter is expected to be the most affordable Royal Enfield bike. Differences between the two variants of Hunter 350 could cover features such as disc-drum brake combo vs. all-disc brakes, single-channel ABS vs. dual channel ABS and wire spoke wheels vs. alloy wheels. Colour options are also likely to be different for both Hunter variants. To be slotted below Bullet, upcoming Hunter 350 is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 1.30 lakh to Rs 1.40 lakh. It won’t have a direct rival at the time of launch. But in this price range, it can work as an alternative for bikes like Pulsar 250, Yamaha FZ25 and Suzuki Gixxer 250.With its affordable pricing, Hunter can be a good option for folks looking to upgrade from their 125-150cc commuter motorcycles. It can also work for first time users who may be looking for a powerful bike that can serve everyday needs. Hunter 350 could be launched sometime in 1st week of Aug. Deliveries can commence around mid August, which marks the beginning of the festive season. More

Ampere Electric Scooter Records 50k Production Milestone At TN Plant

Electric two wheeler manufacturers continue to join the marketplace as they target sales growth by the end of the decadeAmpere Magnus Electric ScooterElectric 2W manufacturers are quite literally functioning with all eyes on them. And though fairly new in the marketplace, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with updates. There’s simply too much happening. For starters, the marketplace is now interspersed with an increasing number of e2W manufacturers, way more than long known market stalwarts. And not all sales reports are easy to access. So, while sales continue to increase, it’s difficult to know the real size of the market given the many directions that are being followed simultaneously. The low speed e2W market requires no registration or driving license, and sales are difficult to track. The volume game is projected to continually see a larger share of e2Ws.Ampere 50k units productionThe Greaves Electric Mobility company achieved its 50k milestone at the Tamil Nadu plant assembly. This momentous achievement the company attributes to a ‘conscious shift of consumers towards sustainable and affordable electric mobility’. Positive sentiment is further boosted with increased product awareness. Alongside awareness, most have their eyes on increasing fuel prices on a regular basis. For Ampere, the Ranipet EV manufacturing plant plays an important role in redefining the Indian transportation landscape. With focus on an affordable and sustainable ecosystem in regard to last-mile mobility, electric scooters are now an important conversation and conversion starter.Ampere Electric Scooterse2W target of 30 percent by 2030A recent investment by Abdul Latif Jameel in Greaves Electric Mobility drives the company’s EV tech advancement. Short term focus for e2W manufacturers is to get a sizeable chunk of the country’s target set at 30 percent by 2030.  Greaves Electric Mobility (GEM) manufactures Ampere electric two-wheelers, and three-wheeler vehicles (E-Auto and E-Rickshaw). The latter under ELE and Teja mobility brands. Ampere has a growing presence in both the B2C and B2B segments.Green mobility incentivesSanjay Behl, CEO & Executive Director, Greaves Electric Mobility,  said, “Our EV megasite was developed with the intent of accelerating the ecologically-virtuous cycle that our planet deserves, and it is incredible that we have reached the 50,000 mark. Owing to the increased customer awareness, preference for green mobility and a host of incentives offered by different states, we have hit the inflection point for EVs to take off and are optimistic about mass EV adoption in the country. We are extremely proud of the workforce at our Ranipet facility – which consists of over 70% women – for their enormous contribution in achieving this great milestone through their hard work and dedication.”     More

With the price hike, Yamaha is not offering anything new with their productsImage – Power RacerYamaha has always had a huge success with its motorcycles in India. Some, a lot and others, not so much. With motorcycles like YZF-R15 and MT15, Yamaha targets the younger and enthusiast motorcycle market and it has a good range of 125 cc scooters too. Yamaha hasn’t made it big in the budget commuter segment as they hoped. They had the YBR, SZ-R, Saluto, Alba, Gladiator, Libero, Crux and some more. Now, Yamaha has completely discarded the budget commuter segment altogether. Yamaha only targets premium buyers now. Scooters? Only 125 cc. Commuters? Starts from 150 cc. Yamaha also has pretty high price tags too. On top of it, Yamaha recently announced another price hike for their products without any additions. Some are hiked less while some are hiked more.Yamaha Scooter Prices June 2022Few Yamaha products like FZ 25, FZS 25, R15 V3 sold as R15S, drum brake variants of Fascino Hybrid and Ray ZR Hybrid are not the recipients of this price hike. The pricing that these products bore will be retained as we go forward.Coming to the scooters first, disc brake variants of Fascino Hybrid and RayZR Hybrid get around 0.57 to 0.6% hike across their colour options. This amounts to a flat Rs. 500 hike across their colour range. Aerox 155, on the other hand, gets a Rs. 2,000 price hike taking the price to Rs. 1,38,800 (ex-sh) with 1.46% price hike.Yamaha Scooter Prices June 2022Yamaha Motorcycle Prices June 2022Yamaha FZ-FI, FZS-FI, and FZS-FI Deluxe get a price hike of Rs. 1,000 each. The neo-retro themed FZ-X gets the same Rs. 1,000 hike which takes its price to Rs. 1,31,400 with a 0.77% price hike. (all prices ex-sh)Like Aerox 155, MT15 V2 also gets a hefty Rs. 2,000 price hike. The new prices start from Rs. 1,61,900 for Black shade and Rs. 1,62,900 for Ice Fluo, Cyan and Blue with around 1.25% price hike.Yamaha India’s top dog YZF-R15 gets a relatively low price hike of just Rs. 500 across its variants except for R15M World Grand Prix 60th Edition which gets a Rs. 900 price hike. New prices for R15 now starts from Rs. 1,77,400 for Metallic Red and goes all the way to Rs. 1,88,800 for the World Grand Prix 60th Edition variant.Yamaha Motorcycle Prices June 2022Yamaha Electric ScooterYamaha has started work on an all new electric scooter for India. Launch is expected in 2 years time. It will be manufactured at the company plant in Tamil Nadu, from where it might also be exported. More

Bajaj Pulsar 250cc Eclipse Edition Teased – New Colour Launch Soon

Both Pulsar N250 and Pulsar F250 are expected to get this new Eclipse colour shadeBajaj Pulsar 250cc Eclipse EditionWhat’s better than a motorcycle finished in black? You thought of a colour, huh? Don’t fight me, but you’re wrong. Black is one of the prettiest colours a vehicle can get. Even here in hot and humid India, despite the negatives of the black colour, it is still very popular. If taken proper care of, that colour will hold its lustre for a very long time.Bajaj seems to be in the same thought process too because every single Pulsar to date, has had a black shade in its life cycle. Except for the new Pulsar 250 range by Bajaj. As impressive as they are, they only make do with a Grey shade which isn’t certainly black. So, Bajaj is set to change that as found from the recent developments.Bajaj Pulsar 250cc Eclipse EditionBajaj recently launched two new motorcycles based on their 250 cc platform. One of them has a street naked avatar named Pulsar N250 while the other is a faired motorcycle named Pulsar F250. Pulsar N250 only and its faired sibling come in 3 colour options each. These are Caribbean Blue, Techno Grey and Racing Red.Techno Grey is middle of the road in terms of darkness and Racing Red is bright and resembles a Cherry Red. Even though all the shades offered on both Pulsar N250 and F250 are decent in themselves, a Black shade was missing and Bajaj knows this too.Bajaj Pulsar 250cc Eclipse EditionBajaj recently took to Instagram to add 9 new pictures in a grid to tease a new black shade. They even have a landing page on their website with a registration form so that people could register their interest with Bajaj. Dubbed as ‘Dawn Of The Eclipse’, Bajaj Auto is teasing its upcoming black shade. We expect the new black shade to be called Eclipse Black or at least have the word Eclipse in it.Pulsar N250 & Pulsar F250Bajaj’s new 250 cc lineup is very well received by the media as well as the consumers. Bajaj has provided two characters with its 250 cc platform. Pulsar N250 radiates a street naked vibe while the Pulsar F250 radiates a Pulsar 220F vibe with its bikini fairing. Both these bikes get the same 249 cc single-cylinder engine that generates 24.1 bhp of power at 8750 RPM and 21.5 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. It also gets features like oil cooling and Bajaj trademark Twin Spark technology. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Both bikes get single discs at both ends and a single-channel ABS system.Bajaj Pulsar 250cc Eclipse EditionWe expect Bajaj Auto to launch the new Eclipse shade very soon and it might be offered as a standard choice or might launch at a slight premium too. Bajaj hasn’t confirmed yet if the new Eclipse shade will be finished in gloss or matte or get an option for both. When launched, it rivals Yamaha FZ25 which gets both gloss black option and a matte black option. More

350cc segment motorcycle domestic sales and exports reported at YoY and MoM growth in May 2022Image – Throttle98YoY 350cc segment motorcycles sales more than doubled in May 2022. A year earlier, market situation was largely volatile owing to constraints in place to curb the spread of Covid-19. In dealing with the epidemic, state governments had encouraged phased lockdowns. This included restraints on production and sales. At the time, total sales of 350cc segment motorcycles were reported at 19,711 units (wholesales). In addition, Jawa Yezdi sales were reported at 650 units (retail sales). In May 2022, these numbers were up at a total of 52,203 units. MoM sales is up marginally from 51,827 units. Volume gain stood at 376 units. And Jawa Yezdi retail sales were up at 3,548 units. MoM sales fell 3.56 percent, down from 3,679 units. Bike wise sales breakup for the latter isn’t available.350cc Motorcycle Sales May 2022Royal Enfield Classic 350 sales dominated segment sales at just under 30k units. It accounts for over 50 percent of segment sales. YoY sales are up from 9,239 units. Volume gain stood at 20,720 units. MoM sales fell from 32,575 units. Volume decline is reported at 2,616 units. Meteor sales are up at 8,209 units from 3,375 units. Volume gain is reported at a little under 5k units. MoM sales are up from 4,617 units.Bullet 350 sales stood at roughly 7k units, up from 4,557 units. MoM sales fell from 7,513 units. Electra 350 sales are up at 37,69 units from 2,112 units. MoM sales fell from 3,918 units. Honda CB 350 sales are up at 3,308 units from 428 units. MoM sales are up from 3,204 units.350cc Motorcycle Sales May 2022350cc motorcycle exportsThe segment doesn’t have participation from all 2W manufacturers operating here. For the longest time, Royal Enfield alone defined and dominated the segment. More recently, Jawa entered space. And Honda now has a product in the limited mix. And sales have been promising with the bike slowly and steadily improving on sales volume.350cc segment exports showed YoY and MoM improvement. Total exports are reported at 6,440 units in May 2022, up from 3,823 units. Volume diff stood at 2,617 units. MoM exports are up from 5,163 units at 25 percent growth.RE Classic Enfield exports topped the chart at 2,779 units, up from 564 units. MoM exports are up from 1,797 units at volume gain of 982 units. Meteor 350 exports fell to 2,161 units, down from 2,887 units. MoM exports are up from 1,138 units. Honda CB 350 exports are up at 1.5k units from 372 units. MoM exports fell from 2,221 units to a volume loss of 721 units.350cc Motorcycle Exports May 2022Royal Enfield sales stagnantDespite new entrants in the 350cc segment over time, total segment sales volume hasn’t been larger than life. This is primarily because Royal Enfield sales have remained stagnant in recent years, and in certain comparisons shows a noticeable decline. For reference, Royal Enfield sales in May 2019 was 62,371 units, and 74,607 units in May 2018.In comparison, total Royal Enfield sales in May 2022 stood at 63,643 units. Of this domestic sales accounted for 53,525 units, and exports are reported at 10,118 units. So, while Royal Enfield has introduced new bikes in the segment in recent times, and at regular intervals, overall sales hasn’t improved. This might change with the arrival of new Hunter 350, as it is touted to be priced as the cheapest Royal Enfield, even lower than Bullet 350.350cc Motorcycle SalesMay-22May-21Growth % YoY1. Suzuki Intruder 150cc Cruiser Discontinued – 0 Units Sold In 2022

Going forward, Suzuki will focus on naked, faired and ADV segments that have much higher demand in comparison to entry-level cruisersSuzuki Intruder 150cc DiscontinuedLaunched in 2017, Suzuki Intruder aimed at offering a unique experience to enthusiasts. It did manage to create a niche fan following, but not something that could be valued from a business perspective. The bike’s prospects hit rock-bottom in 2022, as not even a single unit was sold in the domestic market from Dec 2021 to May 2022. This has prompted the company to discontinue Intruder 155.Why Suzuki Intruder failedThere are multiple reasons that may explain why Intruder 155 did not meet expectations. Starting with the design, the radical bodywork may have been deemed as an overkill by many enthusiasts. While the curvy panelling seems attractive, it is too bulky for a 155cc bike. The fairing is essentially there to hide the relatively small sized engine.Design of Intruder 155 is difficult to interpret, as it appears to have a lot of clutter. There’s the triangular headlamp, angular twin exhaust and broad rear section, all of which contribute to design contradictions inherent in the bike. It doesn’t give the confidence and sense of reliability that people usually look for in a bike.Another worry for enthusiasts could have been the extensive use of plastic panels. These could come loose with time, creating vibrations and rattling sounds. The sheen is also likely to be lost overtime, as the panels are exposed to the elements. Such doubts may have prevented people from choosing Intruder 155.Suzuki Intruder Discontinued – Sales 0 UnitsAvailability of a decent, affordable alternative in the form of Bajaj Avenger is another factor that could have worked against Intruder 155. Avenger has a bare bones structure, which helps create a more rugged look and feel for the bike.Based on user reviews, there’s evidence that Avenger has better control and handling than Intruder. This is especially true when these bikes are used in an urban environment. For cruising on highways, Intruder is likely to work better, owing to its aerodynamic design.High pricingLast known price of Suzuki Avenger 155 was Rs 1,28,900 (ex-showroom Delhi). In comparison, Bajaj Avenger 160 is available at a starting price of Rs 1.12 lakh. If users can increase their budget by Rs 10k, they could go for Avenger 220 model that is available at Rs 1.38 lakh. With Intruder 155 discontinued, it puts a question mark on the possibility of Intruder 250. The bigger sibling was registered in 2019 and was expected to debut in 2021. It would have borrowed much of its hardware from Gixxer 250. However, the possibilities look pretty remote now.Entry-level cruisers may not be as popular as other bikes, but this segment has generated consistent numbers for Bajaj. In May 2022, sales of Avenger Street 160 were at 1,824 units. Suzuki Intruder 155 with nil sales demonstrates the problems inherent in the bike and not with the segment per se. More
