New TVS Electric ScooterWith incremental e-commerce growth across varied segments, the B2B space presents significant opportunity for EV manufacturers
TVS is among the auto companies that have made aggressive plans to target the EV space. Investments worth Rs 1,200 have been earmarked for the purpose. A significant portion of the funds will be utilized to setup a new manufacturing facility that will cater to EVs such scooters, motorcycles, three-wheelers, etc.
    New TVS Electric Scooter Spied
Latest spy shots reveal a new electric scooter on road tests near TVS manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. These exclusive spy shots are credit to automotive enthusiast V Mathpati. Design of the e-scooter indicates that it is most likely a load carrier, meant for last-mile deliveries in B2B and B2C space. It has a flat seat with space at the rear for loading cargo items. The flat floorboard also has ample space for cargo.
TVS new electric scooter has sober styling with minimal body panels. It appears to be using large alloy wheels, possibly 12-inch units. These will come handy for optimal control and balance during cargo operations. Suspension system comprises telescopic forks at front and dual rear shock absorbers. The scooter has a rectangular, full-digital instrument console.
While specs of TVS new electric scooter are not available, it could be close to that of iQube. The latter is equipped with a 2.25kWh battery pack that powers a 4.4kW hub-mounted BLDC motor. It generates 3kW power and peak torque of 140 Nm. iQube claimed range is 75km. This new TVS scooter could get a larger battery, delivering higher range.
    New TVS Electric Scooter
When launched, TVS new electric scooter will primarily take on Honda Benly e electric scooter. Benly e is scheduled for launch in India next year. Honda is moving fast with its plans and has already setup a new subsidiary in India.
This unit will focus on manufacturing battery packs, as required for Honda’s upcoming electric scooters, motorcycles and other small EVs. The subsidiary will also manage technologies and operations related to battery charging and swapping infrastructure.
    TVS charging network expansion
To ensure users don’t have to face issues like range anxiety, TVS is building a vast network of charging stations. This is being done in collaboration with other entities such as Tata Power. As per the agreement between the two companies, the focus will be on increasing use of solar power across charging stations.
    New TVS Electric Scooter
TVS charging network will cater to both personal vehicles and cargo carriers in two-wheeler and three-wheeler segment. It will have both AC charging network as well as DC fast-charging network.
The strategic partnership with Tata is significant, as the company already operates around 700 public chargers across 120 cities. The company also has presence across home and workplace charging and captive charging stations.
Along with commuter and cargo segment, TVS will also be targeting the premium EV segment. For this, TVS has expanded its partnership with BMW to include design and development of new electric scooters, motorcycles and concepts. More

Ford Confirms 2022 F-150 Lightning EV Battery Specs

Ford has confirmed the 2022 F-150 Lightning electric pickup’s usable battery capacities to Car and Driver. There are two options: a 98.0-kWh Standard Range battery pack targeting up to 230 miles of range, and a 131.0-kWh Extended Range pack that Ford claims will offer up to 300 miles. Orders will open next month, and the trucks will arrive in the spring.Ford often leaves out important specifications when it launches a new vehicle, such as an engine’s power output, detailed pricing, or with the new F-150 Lightning electric pickup, battery capacity. We estimated that based on initial charging duration claims, but a Ford spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver the usable sizes of both available battery packs. The upcoming electric pickup will offer two lithium-ion batteries: a 98.0-kWh Standard Range pack and a 131.0-kWh Extended Range pack.

Here at C/D, we report on usable (or net) capacity since that’s the amount of energy an EV can actually draw from the battery to propel itself. Automakers routinely release gross numbers, the amount the pack can technically hold, and if they won’t spill the beans on the pack’s net size, we’ll estimate it based on a few factors. You can read more about net vs. gross sizes here.Ford claims that the F-150 Lightning will offer up to 300 miles of range with the Extended Range battery and 230 miles on the Standard Range pack. Additionally, a post on the F-150 Gen 14 forum found that a stakeholder’s livestream allegedly stated that certain Platinum model trucks would offer 280 miles of range. However, the Ford spokesperson declined to confirm that range estimate. That top-of-the-line model is expected to start around $70,000. Ford also offers standard and extended-range battery configurations in its Mustang Mach-E electric crossover, our inaugural EV of the Year, and its net sizes are 66.0 kWh and 88.0 kWh. When the F-150 Lightning arrives next year, it will compete against the GMC Hummer EV pickup, which uses a 200.0-kWh Ultium battery and boasts up to 350 miles of range, and the Rivian R1T that’s EPA estimated at 314 miles.Orders are scheduled to open next month, and Ford says that reservation holders will receive emails inviting them to place orders. More details on the F-150 Lightning will come next month as well, which should include full pricing details—it’s likely to start around $42,000.

2022 Acura MDX Type S Costs $73,095 Fully Loaded

The 2022 Acura MDX Type S will arrive at dealerships starting next week with a starting price of $67,745. An Advanced Package is available for an additional $5,350 and adds several interior niceties. It’s powered by the same 355-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 as the TLX Type S sedan. Acura recently resurrected the Type S badge and has already added it to three models in its lineup: the NSX supercar, the TLX sedan, and the MDX three-row SUV. The TLX Type S is on sale now, 300 NSX Type S cars will arrive in the U.S. soon, and now the MDX Type S will arrive at dealerships next week starting at $67,745.
That hefty price gets you the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 as the TLX, but with a nearly $15,000 premium—and a third row of seats. That engine makes 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, increases of 65 horsepower and 87 pound-feet over the standard MDX’s 3.5-liter V-6. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and Acura’s SH-AWD system, and Type S models also come with adaptive dampers, air springs, and Brembo brakes. An Advanced Package is available on the MDX Type S for an additional $5,350. It includes a head-up display, 25-speaker sound system, massaging, 16-way power front seats, wood trim, and other interior niceties.

Its $67,745 starting price makes it cheaper than fully loaded versions of the Genesis GV80, a previous Car and Driver 10Best winner that offers a bit more power from its optional twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6. While the TLX Type S sedan’s specs put it in contention with the Audi S4 and BMW M340i, the MDX lines up more closely to non-performance versions of its German three-row SUV rivals, including the $62,695, 335-hp BMW X5 xDrive40i and the $63,195, 335-hp Audi Q7 55. Notably, the Acura is even more expensive than a 375-hp Porsche Macan S.

2023 Lexus RZ450e Confirmed to Have Direct4 AWD Powertrain

Lexus has fully revealed the 2023 RZ450e, sharing new photos and confirming its official name.We can clearly see a “Direct4” badge on the back, which is Lexus’ new AWD electric drivetrain. The RZ will likely go on sale in the U.S. in mid-2022.Lexus is continuing the steady trickle of information about its new electric model, the 2023 RZ. We now have confirmation that it will be called the RZ450e and that it will offer the company’s new Direct4 all-wheel-drive dual-motor powertrain setup. These additional photos also show the RZ’s exterior design in full, although we still haven’t seen the interior.

What we know so far about the Direct4 drivetrain, as designated by a badge on the rear of the RZ, is that it will use front and rear electric motors that provide 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque each. The company hasn’t shared a total output figure, but this combination in the RZ should provide plenty more power than the Toyota bZ4X’s dual-motor powertrain with two 107-hp electric motors that makes just 215 horsepower in total.
The RZ450e otherwise looks to have a similar shape as the bZ4X and its sibling, the Subaru Solterra. Lexus will surely spruce up the interior to match its luxury billing with nicer materials, but it will otherwise be similarly sized inside and offer five seats. Competitors will include the Audi Q4 e-tron, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Nissan Ariya, and Tesla Model Y.We’re estimating the RZ450e’s base price at around $50,000, and it will arrive in the U.S. sometime in 2022. Look for more information to come early next year as we learn more about the RZ’s official specs, interior trimmings, EPA driving range, and price.

Between the two, it was TVS iQube that has posted higher sales numbers in November 2021.

Scooter sales in the past month dipped as much as 37.32 percent down to 2,86,765 units from 4,57,519 units sold in November 2020. TVS Ntorq at No. 4 with sales dipping 33.91 percent YoY to 19,157 units, down from 28,987 units sold in November 2020. Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor Spied With Single Side Exhaust

New Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 With Single Side ExhaustA new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 test mule has been spied testing – Which has a single side exhaust
In the 650cc segment, Royal Enfield offers the Interceptor and the Continental GT. Both these motorcycles are the best selling motorcycles in the segment in the country. They are also the only 650cc motorcycles which are made in India and exported around the world.
These flagship motorcycles have been on sale for a few years now. While it still carries a very minimalistic approach and is far from the sophisticated technologies offered in modern premium machines, it also gets some useful features not seen before from the Chennai-based manufacturer. Earlier this year, they did get a minor update. But it still missed out on features like tripper navigation, which was first introduced on the Meteor 350 last year, and on the Classic 350 in Sep 2021.
    2022 Royal Enfield 650 Update
It is likely that Royal Enfield will dish out more updates to the 650 Twins in 2022. Apart from adding Tripper Navigation system, RE could also update the exhaust system. Instead of the twin exhaust setup (one on each side), RE could offer a single side exhaust system, as seen in the latest test mule that was spied near company plant in Chennai.
The motorcycle remains same – twin cylinder 650cc. It is only the exhaust system, which will be routed via a single end-can, instead of the double end-can in current 650 RE. It is not clear as to why Royal Enfield is testing a new exhaust system with single end-can. Many customers who are buying the RE 650, want the dual end-can exhaust.
New Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 With Single Side Exhaust
There could be some benefits though, of the single side exhaust. Reducing the exhaust end can to just 1, will help reduce the weight by a few kgs. The upswept end-can of test mule will reduce the width of the motorcycle, allowing ease of riding in traffic or in tight spaces. It will also be easier to caliberate as well as source – especially in these times of global parts shortage.
    Tripper Navigation
Other update expected on board the 2022 650 Twins, is the Tripper Navigation system. This offers turn-by-turn navigation as standard across the range. Meteor 350 was the first bike to be laced with such a feature. It is now also on offer with Classic 350 new gen.
The Tripper comes in two parts- the pod beside the instrument cluster and the mobile app. While the pod acts as a face, the app acts a brain which essentially means that the rider enters coordinates of the location in the app and the display pod shows turn-by-turn instructions of the route.
New Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 With Single Side Exhaust
The app displays information from Google Location and Maps by making use of the smartphone’s processing power as well as GPS for navigation. Using this app also means that navigation won’t be compromised even outside the network coverage area. The display pod not only provides navigation commands with arrows and distances but also captures the rider’s attention by flashing the arrows when a turn approaches close.
With the arrows gradually filling in when turn approaches, it gets caught in the rider’s peripheral vision which tells the rider to take appropriate action without getting distracted from the road. Royal Enfield will eventually offer this on all their current as well as upcoming new motorcycles.

New TVS Ntorq Thor, Spider Man Editions Launched – Iron Man Discontinued?

New TVS Ntorq Thor and Spider Man Editions launchedNew Super Squad variants are in addition to existing Captain America and Black Panther – Iron Man Edition removed from website
Aiming to provide more choices to superhero fans, TVS has launched Spiderman and Thor variants of Ntorq 125. The timing seems perfect, as Spider-Man: No Way Home has just opened in theatres across India. Theme of the movie also connects, as identity of our own friendly neighbourhood web-slingers will be revealed soon.
Same goes for fans of hammer-wielding Thor, the protector of both gods and humans. Next edition of Thor, Love and Thunder is slated for release in July 2022. Ntorq Spiderman and Thor variants are priced at Rs 84,850 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is the same as other Super Squad variants.
TVS Ntorq Spiderman and Thor variant details
While Spiderman’s suit has undergone numerous variations across movies and comic books, Ntorq Spiderman edition sticks to the original red and blue theme. This one probably has the highest recall among most Spidey fans.
Front apron of the scooter gets the red shade whereas the front fender comes in blue. A mix of red and blue can be seen on side panels. Enhancing the theme further are spider and web-like decals which cover much of the body panels.
New TVS Ntorq Thor and Spider Man Editions launched
Ntorq Thor Super Squad edition looks relatively sober with a mix of black, grey and red shades. Decals matching various aspects of the superhero such as hammer, lightning, knitted dark grey suit and burgundy cape can be seen on side panels.
It is apparent that Ntorq Spiderman edition will be much easier to spot, as compared to Thor variant. Ntorq Spidey will have a strong street presence, just like Captain America and Black Panther Ntorq. The Iron Man edition of Ntorq is no longer listed on the official website. It has likely been discontinued, as the Avenger dies in Endgame.
Theme of Ntorq Spiderman and Thor variants extends to the SmartXonnect app as well. UI has been customized to reflect notable aspects of the superheroes such as their silhouette, Spiderman logo, Thor’s hammer, etc. Aim is to make overall experience a lot more engrossing and fun for superhero fans. Customized UI for the app is also available for existing Ntorq Super Squad variants.
TVS Ntorq Iron Man Edition removed from website – Likely discontinued
    No superhero powers
New Ntorq Spiderman and Thor editions will continue with the same features and hardware as existing Ntorq. Some key features include aggressive front cluster, aircraft inspired styling, gaming console inspired speedometer, sporty split grab rail, split type rear fender, stubby muffler, afterburner styled rear vents, and sporty T-shaped rear lamp.
In terms of comfort and convenience, the scooter offers patented EZ centre stand, engine kill switch, pass by switch, large underseat storage with USB charger and light, external fuel fill, and dual steering lock. Safety features include high speed alert and parking brake.
Ntorq is powered by a 124.8 cc motor that generates 9.2 hp of max power at 7,000 rpm and 10.5 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. The scooter has under bone tubular type frame with telescopic front suspension and coil spring units at rear. It runs on 12-inch alloy wheels, shod with 100/80 tubeless tyres at both ends. Braking duties on disc variants are performed by 220mm disc at front and 130mm drum brake at rear. More
