Yamaha BS6 FZ 25 and FZS 25 Launch In May – Official Teaser Out

The earlier launch plan was for April, but with the lockdown situation due to coronavirus pandemic, things are a bit uncertain. Provided that the lockdown is not extended and there are no further escalations around coronavirus, BS6 FZ 25 and FZS 25 could go on sale in May. In that scenario, deliveries will commence by end of May.

2020 edition of Yamaha’s quarter litre bikes come with style enhancements such as edgier Bi-functional LED headlamp. The headlamp is likely to have undergone functional improvements as well since users had reported some issues with the headlamp used in the earlier model. Bike fairing and visor have also been updated to improve the bike’s visual appeal. Other changes include redesigned fuel tank extensions, engine cowl, and black plastic panels on the side.

Both bikes share the same engine and components, but the sportier FZS has additional features such as body-coloured knuckle guards and taller visor. Another differentiating factor is the golden shaded wheels, which are available with Dark Cyan colour option. Other colour options for FZS 25 include Metallic White and Dark Matte Blue.

Yamaha quarter litre twins get new features such as refreshed LED DRL, updated negative instrument cluster, and dual channel ABS. A side-stand engine cut-off switch has also been added. Features and components that have been continued include standard telescopic front forks and monoshock suspension at the rear. The bikes run on 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with 100/80-17 and 140/70-17 tubeless tires at front and rear, respectively. The new bikes are one kg heavier than before and come with a 14-litre fuel tank.

Yamaha BS6 FZ 25 and FZS 25 are powered by a 249cc fuel injected (FI), single cylinder, air cooled engine that generates max power of 20.8 ps at 8,000 rpm and max torque of 20.1 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission, which is the same as earlier.

Even with the BS6 upgrade, there’s only negligible loss in power and torque output. Power has been reduced by just 0.1 ps while torque is lower by 0.1 Nm. This is remarkable, as upgrade to BS6 usually results in relatively higher loss of power and torque.

Price of Yamaha BS6 FZ 25 and FZS 25 will be revealed at the time of launch. Expected price for FZ 25 is Rs 1.40 lakh, while FZS 25 could come with a price tag of Rs 1.45 lakh. The twins will take on rivals such as TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, KTM Duke 250, and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
